Belgium's Medialaan Acquires Rights to Nickelodeon Israel's 'The Greenhouse', 'Spell Keepers' and 'Bed & Biscuit'


Belgium broadcaster picks up Nutz Productions’ THE GREENHOUSE, SPELL KEEPERS and BED & BISCUIT

18 December 2018 – The Kids’ division of leading global producer and distributor Keshet International (KI) has signed another high-volume licensing deal for three of live-action tweens’ and teens’ finished series totally 188 hours of content.

KI has licensed Belgium broadcaster Medialaan all three seasons of the Israeli ratings record-breaking daily-drama THE GREENHOUSE (175×22’), three seasons of the live action series SPELL KEEPERS (150×22’) and three seasons of the sitcom BED & BISCUIT (totaling 51×22’). All of these Hebrew language shows originally premiered on Nickelodeon Israel and Teen Nick exclusively on Yes TV and are produced by Nutz Productions, a subsidiary of the multi-channel media group Ananey Communications. Medialaan will debut all three shows on its popular kids channel VTM KIDS on Saturday 22nd December 2018.

This is the first time Medialaan has picked up any Hebrew-language live action kids’ series, and it follows hot on the heels of KI’s recent agreements with HBO for all three series of both THE GREENHOUSE (175×22’) and SPELL KEEPERS (150×22’), and SIC for three series of BED & BISCUIT (totaling 51×22’) and the first series of SPELL KEEPERS (50×22’).

These three high-volume deals follow KI’s recent strategic move into the kids’ market, first launching a dedicated kids’ division headed by new hire Nicola Andrews, and then establishing an on-going content partnership with Ananey Communications Group – Israel’s leading kids’ content provider – to bring teens’, tweens’ and kids’ programming to a wider global audience.

The Greenhouse

Created by Giora Chamizer, THE GREENHOUSE (S1, S2 and S3, totaling 175×22’) centers on a brother and sister who, after losing their mother in a spaceship crash, arrive at an elite boarding school for gifted future leaders: The Greenhouse. They join two competing houses within the school but, only by joining forces can they save the country from a disaster. The Greenhouse has also aired (dubbed in English) on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland, and has also been adapted for an English international version by Netflix. Titled Greenhouse Academy, the English international version has been renewed for two additional seasons (encompassing season two and three).

Teen drama Spell Keepers

Based on original idea by Sivan Shiknagy and Einat Shahak and created by Michal Cooper-Keren, SPELL KEEPERS (S1, S2 and S3, totaling 150×22’) is an exciting, mysterious and fantastical daily-drama series focusing on two strong and determined female heroines – Kirki and Laila. The Spell Keepers are a secret group of good witches called Kadabras, whose role is to protect humanity from supernatural creatures who threaten to harm them. Together, they are the strongest force in the supernatural world. Spell Keepers also airs on Nickelodeon Poland.

Bed And Biscuit

Created by Hagit Bilia and Lior Kfir, BED & BISCUIT (S1, S2 and S3, totaling 51×22’) is a sitcom for younger kids, which takes place in a family-run boarding kennel for dogs in a small village in Israel. Moti is a mediocre lawyer who has had enough of the big city and wants to live a simpler life and spend more time with his only daughter Ori. Together, the energetic father and smart and funny daughter make the move into the country to run their family business – a dog kennel.

Nicktoons USA May Not Air 'Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS' [Updated]

Update (12/18): Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like Nicktoons USA will be airing Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS after all. In an email to Twitter /@MrDueltainerfan, a Program Planning and Strategy Manager said that nothing further has been said at Nickelodeon n regards to VRAINS, and revealed that at this point, it's unlikely that Nicktoons will get the series.

Nicktoons USA, Nickelodeon USA action and animation channel, will start to premiere and show Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V season three on Saturday, January 13 at 9:00am ET/PT, beginning with the season premiere, "A Warlike Welcome" (#301)!

Unfortunately, however, due to Nicktoons taking a bit too long to air season 1 of ARC-V, causing the series to fall behind the rest of the world in terms of consumer products, marketing, and promotion, Konami has requested that Nickelodeon catch up with the rest of world, and the only way to do it was by skipping season 2 - which Nicktoons had planned on premiering during early 2018, and going directly into season 3. Nickelodeon confirmed the news in a email to ToonZone Forums member '4Kids4EverFandom'.

However, Nickelodeon also confirmed the exciting news that Nicktoons will start to premiere the brand-new Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS from Fall 2018!

Update (1/6): Cinedigm, a leading independent content distributor in the United States, has revealed in an email to ToonZone Forums member '4Kids4EverFandom' that they are currently working on Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V season two, and are aiming for a digital release in March 2018 and the DVD/Blu-ray in May 2018!

Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS stars Yusaku Fujiki as the main protagonist, and takes place in a high-school setting, featuring Virtual Reality Duels in a cyberspace constructed with LINK VRAINS, the latest in virtual-reality technology. As with the previous three spin-off series (5D's, ZEXAL, and ARC-V), VRAINS introduces and focuses on a new type of Summoning: Link Summoning.

In the city of Den City, thousands of duelists take part in a virtual reality space known as Link Vrains, where users can create unique avatars and participate in games of Duel Monsters with each other. As a mysterious hacker organisation known as the Knights of Hanoi threaten this world, a high-school student named Yusaku Fujiki battles against them under the guise of Playmaker. One day, Yusaku encounters a peculiar artificial intelligence program, which he names Ai, who sets off a digital maelstrom in Link Vrains known as the Data Storm. As the appearance of this storm gives birth to Speed Duels, in which duelists surf the wind as they duel, Yusaku battles against Hanoi in order to uncover the truth concerning an incident that happened to him years ago.

'The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge' Adds 'Batman v Superman' Cinematographer Larry Fong

The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, the forthcoming origin story for SpongeBob SquarePants, has added Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cinematographer Larry Fong!

Besides Batman v Superman and Watchmen, Fong has worked with director Zack Snyder on 300 and Sucker Punch, as well as putting in hours on other huge properties like Shane Black's The Predator, J.J. Abrams's Super 8, and ABC series Lost.

Paramount Animation president Mireilla Soira revealed in October that the upcoming film is set to be an origin tale with a bit of an homage to the Frank Capra holiday classic It's a Wonderful Life.

"For the first time ever, we're going to get to the origin of how little SpongeBob met the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang at summer camp," Soria said. "The film's opening will take place at Camp Coral when all of our favorite characters meet for the first time."

In addition to delving into SpongeBob's character history, the film is also set to depart from previous films as well as the television series in terms of how it's made as well. It's a Wonderful Sponge will be the first SpongeBob feature film not to be animated by the South Korean studio behind the TV show, Rough Draft Korea. Instead, Montreal-based Mikros Image will animate the film. The film will also be the first SpongeBob movie to feature entirely computer-generated animation as the first film was hand animated while the second, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, featured a mix of hand animated and CG-animated scenes.

SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg passed away in November after a battle with ALS, as is expected to receive an "In Memory Of" credit in the movie. There has also been a push to incorporate the famed animated character into the Super Bowl Halftime Show in February 2019. The stadium hosting the event is aware of the campaign but has not committed to doing anything.

The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge is set to open in theaters in the U.S. on July 22, 2020. The film will be the third in the series with The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie having been released in 2004 and its sequel, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, in 2015. The movies' release was first anticipated to be released in 2019, during the series’ 20th anniversary year, however later announced that the film was being pushed back a year.

SpongeBob SquarePants has emerged as a global pop culture phenomenon since the animated series first premiere don Nickelodeon in July 1999. The series is the most-watched animated program for over 14 consecutive years. Seen in over 185 countries and translated into more than 50 languages worldwide, the cartoon follows the adventures of SpongeBob, a cheerful, optimistic and earnest sea sponge -- who just so happens to look more like a bright yellow kitchen sponge than a sea creature -- and his various friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Among those friends are SpongeBob's best friend, a pink starfish named Patrick Star, his neighbor and co-worker octopus Squidward Tentacles, and Sandy Cheeks, a squirrel from Texas.

SpongeBob SquarePants has been renewed through to at least the show's twelfth season, will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019, has its own critically acclaimed Broadway show, which is set to tour the U.S. from Fall 2019, and has a third upcoming movie, The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, set to be released in Summer 2020!

Watch: Jack Griffo and Noah Centineo Filmed Themselves Dancing to Justin Bieber in 2012

The year is 2012 and young actors Jack Griffo and Noah Centineo are just starting out in Hollywood as an evil superhero twin on The Thundermans and a cellphone accessory cart guy from Austin & Ally. So what does they do? Well, if you guessed run around LA with a cape and make a music video to Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," then you are absolutely right!

Jack and Noah posted their "superhero swag" rendition of Bieber's hit single in October 2012—and fans recently re-discovered it. The video, which has over 81,000 views on YouTube, features Jack Griffo and his BFF Noah as the two dressed up as Batman and Superman while dancing along to Justin's hit song for the first part of the music video. In the second half, they just seem to be running around LA with a really shaky camera as they pretend to be two of our favorite superheroes. The music video has all the elements of a teen-created music special: the Apple Photo Booth filters, a kaleidoscope transition, blurry camera work, and some earnest, self-choreographed dance moves in the streets of Burbank, California.

Centineo and Griffo weren't exactly unknowns when they made the video; they were both child stars. While Griffo went on to star in Nickelodeon's The Thundermans, which started airing in 2013 and had its final episode air this Mayhttp://nickalive.blogspot.com/2018/05/nickelodeon-usa-to-premiere-final-five.html, Centineo appeared on Disney Channel's Austin and Ally in 2012, so they were technically working for rival networks (although Noah did guest star on an episode of Nickelodeon's Marvin Marvin).

According to Jack's Instagram page, they really close friends back in those days. He also has a bunch of photos of them just hanging out together over the years.

The two of them are still best buds and even recently hung out together along with Dumplin' star Luke Benward and The Killing star Sterline Beaumon.

If you're wondering what Jack has been up to lately, he's also become a Netflix star and is now starring in Alexa & Katie along with Mighty Med star Paris Berelc. Noah will also be appearing in the upcoming movie The Stand-In, and starring the the sequel to To All The Boys I've Loved Before.

In fact, both actors are 22 now, and both have Netflix gigs where they play the cute love interest. "Boyfriend" dancers become Netflix boyfriends. Call it fate.

Given this video has amassed more than 81,000 views since it was posted in 2012, it's pretty clear Centineo and Griffo's star power was pretty evident, even through the blurry lens of an Apple Photo Booth filter.

With an To All the Boys sequel coming out soon, maybe we'll finally see these BFFs on the screen together? Let's hope so!
