SAN DIEGO, CA (December 15, 2022) – In 2023, brilliant storyteller Stan Sakai will once again weave together two of the most beloved concepts in history with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Usagi Yojimbo: WhereWhen. This five-issue comic book miniseries, published by IDW in partnership with Dogu Publishing and Paramount Consumer Products features colors by Hi-Fi and will launch in March 2023.

In 1984, the indie comics scene erupted with the creation of two enduring phenomena: Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Given the two series’ anthropomorphic heroes, reverence for Japanese culture, and mutual respect among their highly skilled creators, it was no wonder that the two properties would crossover in comics, multiple animated series, and toy lines over the next four decades.

“I am so pleased with the story and art for WhereWhen,” says Sakai. “There is a lot of emotion and, of course, lots of action. I actually wrote this story about five years ago and had been anxious to get to it. In the past, the Turtles have met just a few of Usagi’s friends. This time, everyone is thrown in—Gen, Tomoe, Jotaro, Yukichi, Kitsune, Chizu, and more! This one is epic!”


The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pursue the evil cyborg genius Dr. WhereWhen through a time portal…and emerge in feudal Japan! There, they encounter Miyamoto Usagi, 20 years into the samurai’s future but decades after the arrival of Dr. WhereWhen—who has already carved himself a fiefdom using mechanized clockwork samurai robots, with the intention of conquering both the past and current timelines!

Each and every issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Usagi Yojimbo: WhereWhen will feature a glorious wraparound cover by Stan Sakai, plus alternate covers by TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, Sarah Myer (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures), and David Petersen (Mouse Guard). Issue #1 will also include a blank cover variant, perfect for artists or even convention commissions.

Baby Shark Swims Into NFTs With Toekenz

Pinkfong's IP will debut as a blockchain-based game on Toekenz's upcoming NFT platform, joining brands from Boat Rocker and Mattel.


South Korea’s Pinkfong Company has inked a licensing agreement that will see its flagship Baby Shark IP featured on Toekenz Collectibles’ upcoming platform that gamifies NFTs.

Toekenz will develop and introduce a blockchain Baby Shark game for kids ages five to nine, and the brand’s characters will also be available as digital collectibles that kids can customize and share with other players.

Targeting kids under age 12 and their families, the Toekenz platform is designed to turn collecting, buying and selling NFTs into a game for kids. It’s set to launch in Q1 2023 through the App Store and Google Play, and will feature blockchain-based games that kids can play to earn licensed digital tokens. The platform will also offer educational resources about new tech like web3, blockchain and cryptocurrencies. 

Baby Shark is just the latest major kids brand to get on board with Toekenz, which recently partnered with Canada’s Boat Rocker Media to create NFTs based on its series The Next Step and Daniel Spellbound. And in an even bigger get, Toekenz also signed a deal with Mattel in October for a handful of its franchise brands. 

Since the launch of its signature song in 2016, Baby Shark has generated more than 11 billion views on YouTube and expanded into consumer products, animated series and films. This is the brand’s second foray into NFTs. Last year, Pinkfong partnered with digital art marketplace MakersPlace for a range of tokens featuring animated illustrations of Baby Shark and his family, as well as the Baby Shark song.

Sambro Extends Hasbro Partnership With New Brands, Including Transformers

The new deal with Hasbro will see Transformers, My Little Pony and PJ Masks products join Sambro’s portfolio.


Sambro International has extended its rights with global branded entertainment leader, Hasbro, adding iconic brands to its growing product portfolio for the UK & EMEA region, including Transformers, My Little Pony and PJ Masks.

The global supplier of licensed and own brand children’s toys and entertainment has held a long-term contract with Hasbro since 2008. Since 2020, Sambro has distributed an extensive range of Peppa Pig arts & craft toys across Europe and the UK as well as plush across Europe.

This latest deal will see Sambro distribute numerous new product lines within the My Little Pony and Transformers franchises, with PJ Masks launching in 2024 across the UK and the heartland of Europe with a focus on Benelux, GSA, CEE, Nordics and France.

Since the success of the My Little Pony: A New Generation movie in 2021, the brand has continued to grow in popularity and Sambro has worked closely with Hasbro to meet this demand. The two companies have partnered to develop a collection of arts & craft toys and plush, designed with creative play in mind and aimed at children over the age of four.

The collection includes over 20 products, including creative toys such as Paint Your Owns; Lil’ Bodz plush featuring key characters such as Izzy and Sunny; and Sambro’s own uniquely designed Puzzle Palz and Bops n Tops novelty collectibles.

AW23 will also see the launch of Transformers toy collectibles and plush. This will include the addition of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, plus other characters, to Sambro’s successful, own-developed Lil Bodz family. These plush toys’ small bodies are paired with oversized heads and come with character sounds.

“Hasbro has long valued its working relationship with Sambro and we’re thrilled to continue to work with the team to help lift consumer experiences across these new franchises, especially in the growing value channel,” commented Marianne James, VP Consumer Products for Eurasia at Hasbro. “Our new franchises will allow consumers to express their fandom in new ways through our ever-expanding collection of licensed toys and games, and we’re excited to see what’s to come as part of this newly extended contract.”

14th Annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk Aims to Raise Another $2.5 Million for Kids

LOS ANGELES--Oct. 20, 2022--The Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, presented by Kinecta Federal Credit Union, has announced a $2.5 million fundraising goal for a second year in a row—funds that will directly support youth with varying abilities, schools and the Skechers Foundation’s national scholarship program. Supported by Kinecta and more than 100 companies, the annual event will feature live performances, celebrities and athletic icons including Brooke Burke, Sugar Ray Leonard, Amanda Kloots and Dani Bowman, who will join thousands of walkers in support of children.

“Since 2009, the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk has created new ways that we can nurture our kids—and it’s done it in one of the most joyous ways imaginable: as an annual celebration for families,” said Michael Greenberg, founder of the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk. “Many of our Walk’s children are supported by parents, friends and neighbors who come together in person and online to celebrate them every fall. And with each passing season, there are new milestones—from students’ achievements in classes and life-changing college scholarships to our recent groundbreaking of our world class Friendship Campus, which will educate and inspire youth with varying abilities, offer them college-based learning and show them how they can be part of our community for the rest of their lives. Donations from the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk support The Friendship Foundation and education foundations for public schools. In addition to the Friendship Campus (The Greenberg Family / Skechers Center), the Friendship Foundation offers children with developmental disabilities one-on-one peer visits and social recreational activities, from online gatherings to summer camps, sporting event outings and classes such as music, yoga, cooking, art and drama. The event also helps enhance schools, reduces class sizes, updates labs, libraries and facilities and protects teachers’ jobs. The Skechers Foundation’s national scholarship program gives a portion of its proceeds to students with financial need and proven excellence in academics, athletics and leadership, and has donated nearly $1 million in scholarships to date.

Update (12/20) - The Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk announced that its 14th annual event raised more than $3 million this year for children with varying abilities, schools and scholarships—a new record that has helped the Walk surpass $21 million in funds raised to date. With more than 19,000 participants, the event was supported by Presenting Sponsor Kinecta Federal Credit Union and over 100 other generous businesses and partners, along with appearances by Dani Bowman, Brooke Burke, Amanda Kloots and Sugar Ray Leonard, plus live performances by talents including Young Selena singer and America’s Got Talent golden buzzer winner Madison Taylor Baez.

Ocean Institute Named Beneficiary of SpongeBob Clothing Line By Waterlust

Waterlust, an ocean apparel company, has committed to donating 10% of its proceeds to the Ocean Institute from a new SpongeBob SquarePants-inspired line of apparel, the Ocean Institute recently announced.


Waterlust, which donates a portion of its profits to research and education organizations, partnered with Nickelodeon and Paramount Consumer Products to design the new apparel line. The new clothing, which spans tees, tops, shorts, leggings, scrunchies and headbands, is part of the SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Sea Change, aimed to remove and divert plastic from the ocean by funding cleanup projects.

“Ocean Institute is honored to be a beneficiary of Waterlust’s funding program,” Ocean Institute President and CEO Dr. Wendy Marshall said in a media release. “Waterlust blends their passion for the ocean with an artistic expression from which others can enjoy and learn.”

Funding from Waterlust will directly support field trips for underserved and at-risk youth to visit the Ocean Institute with the aim of developing a passion for the ocean.

“These memorable experiences will create the next generation of ocean defenders and may kickstart the next Waterlust or the next Stephen Hillenburg,” Ocean Institute wrote in a media release.


The late Marine Biologist Stephen Hillenburg, who worked as an educator at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point. was the creator of the beloved animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, one of Nickelodeon's longest-running shows.

“This model embodies the spirit of one of our former marine science instructors, Stephen Hillenburg,” Marshall said. “In the mid ’80s, Hillenburg created a comic book, The Intertidal Zone, to teach children about sea creatures. This blending of his passion for the ocean and artistic talents set the stage for SpongeBob SquarePants.”

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 15, 2022 -- Pluto TV, the leading free streaming television service, premiered a new global brand campaign starring Drew Barrymore on her daily talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, the fastest growing show in daytime, on December 15. The all-new "Stream Now. Pay Never." campaign features three unique commercial spots highlighting the streaming service's frictionless no strings attached approach to accessing fan-favorite programming and entertainment. The video spots officially launch their flight on December 16th in the U.S. and will run across select Pluto TV international territories throughout the beginning of 2023.

THE CAMPAIGN

In October, Pluto TV first introduced a new tagline - Stream Now. Pay Never. - that was supported by a strategic campaign that ran across out-of-home, linear, social and digital platforms featuring popular IP including SpongeBob SquarePants, Star Trek: The Next Generation, CSI: Miami and others. The new tagline champions Pluto TV's brand identity and positioning in a rapidly evolving streaming landscape where the category of FAST continues to see new entrants and increasing audiences worldwide.

To further amplify the new positioning, a new Stream Now. Pay Never. creative campaign was filmed starring Drew Barrymore. The spots launched across linear, CTV, out-of-home, digital, radio and social platforms in the US and Canada on December 16th. Tapping into the power of the Paramount Global ecosystem, the campaign will be promoted across the company's marquee lineup of linear, streaming and digital properties. Following the debut, the campaign flight will continue through Q1 of 2023, with the global rollout launching in multiple markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, The Nordics and others.


To kick off the creative campaign, on December 15th, Drew Barrymore premiered the commercial on her nationally syndicated daily talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, where the leader in free streaming TV, Pluto TV, celebrated the debut by gifting everyone in the audience a free LG 50" SMART TV.  The spot can be seen below.
