Maria Zhang Shares BTS Photos from the Set of Netflix's Live-Action 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Series

With production currently underway on Netflix and Albert Kim's (Sleepy Hollow, Nikita) reimagined live-action take on Nickelodeon's beloved animated Avatar: The Last Airbender, Maria Zhang, who has cast to play Suki, a non-bending Kioshi Warrior and friend to Avatar Aang, recently shared some behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the series on her official Instagram!

Zhang is in front of her trailer where ‘Suki’ is written on the door and her black puffer jacket. Neither the Kioshi Warrior costumes nor makeup are spoiled in the picture, but Zhang looks excited to be on set.

The cast for the series includes Gordon Cormier (Gabby Duran and the Unsittables), Kiawentiio (Beans), Ian Ousley (Physical), Dallas Liu (PEN15), and Daniel Dae Kim (Hot Zone: Anthrax), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim's Convenience), Lim Kay Siu (Anna and The King), Ken Leung (Industry), Elizabeth Yu (All My Love), Yvonne Chapman (Kung Fu), Tamlyn Tomita (Cobra Kai), Casey Camp-Horinek (Reservation Dogs), and Maria Zhang (All I Ever Wanted).

With Kim serving as showrunner, executive producer, and writer of the series, Rideback's Dan Lin (The Lego Movie, Aladdin) and Lindsey Liberatore (Walker), as well as Michael Goi (Swamp Thing, American Horror Story), will also executive produce. Goi, Roseanne Liang,(who also co-executive produces), and Jabbar Raisani have been tapped to direct.

Cormier's Aang is a fearless and fun-loving twelve-year-old who just happens to be the Avatar, master of all four elements & the keeper of balance and peace in the world. An airbending prodigy, Aang is a reluctant hero, struggling to deal with the burden of his duties while still holding on to his adventurous and playful nature.

Kiawentiio's Katara is a determined and hopeful waterbender, the last in her small village. Though only fourteen, she's already endured great personal tragedy, which has held her back from rising to her true potential, though it's never dimmed her warm and caring spirit.

Ousley's Sokka is Katara's sardonic and resourceful 16-year-old brother. Outwardly confident, even brash, he takes his responsibility as the leader of his tribe seriously, despite his inner doubts over his warrior skills… doubts that he masks with his wit and deadpan sense of
humor.

Liu's Zuko is a skilled firebender and the intense and guarded Crown Prince of the Fire Nation. Currently roaming the world in exile, he's on an obsessive quest to capture the Avatar because he believes that is the only way to reclaim his life and live up to the demands of his cruel and controlling father, the Fire Lord.

Kim's Fire Lord Ozai is the ruthlessly-driven leader of the Fire Nation who demands everyone live up to his impossible standards, especially his teen son, Prince Zuko. Ozai's drive to conquer and unite the world under firebender rule is a family burden — he believes that it's his destiny to finish a war started by his ancestors.

Lee's Uncle Iroh is a retired Fire Nation general and the wise and nurturing mentor to his hot-headed nephew, Prince Zuko.

Siu's Gyatso is a kind and caring Air Nomad monk who is the guardian, father figure, and best friend to Aang.

Leung's Commander Zhao is a scheming and ambitious Fire Nation military officer who's eager to leverage an unexpected encounter with a desperate Prince Zuko to advance his personal goals.

Yu's Azula is the intensely driven princess of the Fire Nation. A firebending prodigy and relentless perfectionist, she'll stop at nothing to secure her position as the heir to the throne.

Chapman's Avatar Kyoshi is a legendary warrior revered for her bravery, fearsome fighting skills, and uncompromising dedication to the cause of justice.

Zhang's Suki is the intimidating leader of the Kyoshi Warriors, an elite female fighting force dedicated to protecting their community and upholding the ideals of their namesake, Avatar Kyoshi.

Tomita's Yukari is Suki's mother and the fiercely protective mayor of her small village on Kyoshi Island.

Camp-Horinek's Gran Gran is Katara and Sokka's grandmother and the compassionate and wise matriarch of the Southern Water Tribe.

Miranda Cosgrove Reveals She Relates to Jennette McCurdy’s Decision to Quit Acting

Though she's worked nonstop in TV and film, Miranda Cosgrove recently revealed that she understands iCarly co-star Jennette McCurdy's decision to quit acting "100 percent."

Miranda Cosgrove has worked for most of her 28 years—so she understands why her former co-star threw in the towel.

iCarly's Jennette McCurdy made headlines earlier last year when she announced that she would not be joining the Nickelodeon series for the Paramount+ reboot. Miranda (Carly Shay), who has teamed up with HP's Girls Save the World to empower young women to create change with environmental advocacy, recently told E! News that she "understands" Jennette's decision to quit acting.

"I do think for sure that being in acting at a young age isn't easy," Miranda explained. "I mean, having an adult's job when you're a child is a hard thing to do. I totally understand her perspective 100 percent."

Though she understands Jennette's decision not to join the reboot, Miranda says that iCarly is a "different show without the Sam character" and "they miss her."

And if Jennette ever changed her mind about reviving her character? Miranda would welcome her onto the show with open arms. "If she ever wanted to come back, of course, the door would always be open," the actress said. "But I think that she's doing a lot of really cool stuff that she wants to be doing."

Even though we won't get to see Sam and her butter sock on the reboot, Miranda teased what she thinks Jennette's character would be up to.

"People always comment and say that if her character was on this show, they'd have to just like bleep out everything all the time because her character was always so wild, even on the kid's version of the show," Miranda explained with a laugh. "So it probably would have been really fun to see just the crazy stuff that her character would do now."

The actor also revealed what she would be doing if she didn't become and actor. "If I were to give up acting, I'd probably want to be a vet," the actor explained "I'm at the vet a lot, because I have so many animals, so I feel like I've learned a lot just from always being there."

"When I was really little, I always wanted to be a vet before I wanted to be an actress," Miranda explained "I'd go around the neighborhood at my parent's house and actually steal people's cats and take them to my tree house and pretend that I was a vet."

Though we miss seeing Jennette and Miranda on screen together, we can rest easy knowing the pair will "always be friends."

Season two of iCarly is set to premiere during Spring 2022 on Paramount+. Catch the first season of the revival and all five seasons of the original series on Paramount+. Try it FREE at ParamountPlus.com!

Miranda Cosgrove Teases the Future of 'iCarly' and a Potential Guest Star For Season 2

What's next for Carly Shay and the gang? Miranda Cosgrove talks about the plans she has for the iCarly revival. You're going to want to see what she has to say.

Lisa Rose/Paramount+

In five, four, three, two...

iCarly is back. This time Spencer's rich, there was a sex work storyline and apparently Freddie can swear?

The beloved Nickelodeon sitcom, which originally aired from 2007–2012, returned with an adult-version this past June. Now, while the cast, including Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress, film season two, Miranda says Carly Shay is "figuring out what she wants her web show to be."

Plus, there's some news that will have you yelling, "Hug me, brotha!" as Miranda revealed that there's "a really good chance" her former Drake & Josh co-star, Josh Peck will be making an appearance this season.

Miranda, who recently teamed up with HP's Girls Save the World program to empower young girls to create change with environmental advocacy, also spilled about how long she wants to fill Carly's shoes and whether she is on "Team Wes" or "Team Beau."

Check out Miranda's interview with E! News below!

E! News: You're back! What was the first day like?

Miranda Cosgrove: It was crazy being back because the sets all looked the same but a little bit different so it's kind of like The Twilight Zone. All the memories just came back once we were walking around and I didn't really think it was going to be super emotional for some reason, I thought I was just going to be more excited, like, "Oh, we get to see it again," but once I was standing on the set, I felt so many emotions.

E!: What can you tell us about season two? And perhaps a season three or four?

MC: I'd love to see the show go on at least for three or four seasons. I feel like we're really getting into the groove this season—because the first season was about introducing the new characters on the show and establishing where the old characters are now that it's been 10 years.

E!: Which cast members would you like to see return?

MC: Boogie who played T-Bo on the show who works at the Groovy Smoothie. I'd love that if he came back. We had Jeremy [Rowley] who plays Lewbert on the show, he was like the crazy doorman, we just shot an episode with him. I'm really open to anybody from the original coming back. Anytime somebody comes and makes a cameo, I think it's really fun.

E!: What about Josh Peck?

MC: Yeah, it's funny that you said Josh, because I think there's a really good chance that he's gonna be in the second season that we're filming right now.

E! No way! Can you tell us a little more about that?

MC: I don't know exactly what the character is gonna be, but you know, Josh and I are friends, and he was nice enough to say he'd do an episode.

E!: What do you see for Carly Shay in the future?

MC: I feel like in the second season she's kind of really figuring out what she wants her web show to be. She doesn't want it to be exactly like it was before. So that's just been fun finding what kind of crazy sketches and things you would do as an adult, versus what we did when we were little.

Paramount Plus

E!: What is one of the wildest things that you remember happening in between takes?

MC: We always had like, goo on our faces. There was an episode where we had to shove blueberries up our noses and then breathe really hard so that the blueberries shot out. I definitely remember practicing that a bunch times, which is super weird. And oh, we had to like dunk our heads into ice buckets. I got to do that when I was, like, 13 or 14 and Jeanette and I did it, like, 20 times, so I've never forgotten that.

E!: How about the reboot? Any crazy stories yet?

MC: Most of the bloopers, even on the old show and now, are just like Jerry Trainor making everybody laugh. Like this season, he'd rollerblade around for a whole episode and we never knew when he was going to fall because he's really tall and not coordinated on roller skates at all.

E!: What is the biggest thing that when you came back that you were like, "Ah, I really missed this?"

MC: Jerry's awesome personality and how fun he is to work with and also Nathan Kress. He's like one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He's just so responsible and he's always, like, 30 minutes early to work and has all of his notes for the script already written out way ahead of time. Also getting to work with Laci [Mosley] mostly and Jaden Triplet. I kind of feel like I've come full circle working with Jaden who's 10 and when I started iCarly I was, like, 12 so it's just kind of crazy being Jerry's age working with a kid now in this version.

E!: Who would you say on the show is most similar to the character they play?

MC: I would say Jerry Trainor. I mean, Nathan's character, Freddie, is very responsible and a really good person and that's like Nathan. I guess we're all kind of similar to our characters in some ways. But, yeah, I go with Jerry the most.

E! In which ways are you and Carly similar?

MC: I'd say we're different because I think Carly's a lot more outgoing than me. I would probably describe Carly as like an extrovert and me as an introvert. I kind of relate to her in that she kind of like stumbles through life hoping for the best but, like, crazy things are just always happening around her.

E!: It looks like Carly will have to pick between two of her love interests— so are you personally Team Wes or Team Beau?

MC: Personally on Team Wes because I feel like he has more substance. They kind of write the Beau character like he's sort of just head in the clouds, has a rich dad and is just like loving life. But I don't know if I'd want Carly to end up with either of them in the long run.

E!: Your showrunner has said that she wants to do an episode where you tackle what it's like to be a woman on the internet. What would that look like?

MC: Hopefully we're gonna do that this season. I sort of feel like a lot of the episodes at least touch on what it's like being a woman on the internet because we did an episode last season where it's all about Carly getting excited because a meme goes viral that she's a part of, but then she realizes all the ways it actually hurts the people around her.

E!: Meanwhile, you're using your notoriety for good. What made you want to team up with HP's Girls Save the World?

MC: I have six animals currently, four of them are fosters, so I've always loved animals ever since I was little and I think that kind of led me here. I'm super excited to be working with HP on this campaign because it's just all about getting young girls to find their voice and letting them know how much potential they have to come up with ways to change the world.

Miranda Cosgrove talks 'rewarding' reboot of 'iCarly', hits Forbes 30 under 30

Actress Miranda Cosgrove is a familiar face in Hollywood — first hitting the big screen at age 10 in "School of Rock."

Now, at age 28, Cosgrove is an executive producer, climate change advocate and just made the Forbes 30 under 30 list for the class of 2022, following a successful launch of the highly-anticipated "iCarly" reboot on Paramount+ (VIAC).

"It's been an awesome experience," Cosgrove told Yahoo Finance — noting her growth from a nervous 13-year-old actress to a confident executive producer on the relaunched series.

"I'm just getting to do a lot of things I never thought I'd get to do...it's been really rewarding," she continued.

According to Forbes, Cosgrove's career took off following the 2007 debut of "iCarly" on Nickelodeon. By 2012, she was earning $180,000 per episode, making her the world's highest-paid child actor (a Guinness World Record that still stands today.)

Since the show has transitioned from cable television to streaming, Cosgrove said she appreciates the greater access to fans, noting her own obsession with the streaming revolution.

"There are just so many shows and so many things to watch, and I'm the type of person that likes to consume everything. I love watching shows. So I pretty much have all the streaming services," she said.

The Hollywood starlet added that with iCarly "it's all about just trying to make people laugh and really trying to make the original fans of the original series happy. That's always kind of been our guiding light."

'So many new rules because of COVID'

As Hollywood works to get back on its feet, another COVID variant has once again disrupted the industry — but Cosgrove said Tinseltown has prepared for this, noting a plethora of precautions that the "iCarly" cast and crew must follow daily.

"We started the first season right in the middle of the pandemic. We were just all so excited to get to come out of our houses and all be together, but it didn't seem like too big of a deal given all the precautions that we had to take," Cosgrove said.

On-set safeguards included daily testing, mask/shield wearing when not filming, constant hand washing and more.

"There's just so many new rules because of COVID," she continued, proudly adding that nobody on set has come down with the virus so far.

Climate activism to 'make a huge difference'

As COVID-19 headwinds mount, climate change remains another major threat to the global economy.

At COP26 in Glasglow earlier this month, world leaders vowed to move the globe closer to averting a climate disaster, but business leaders and climate scientists say it still may not move the needle enough.

Cosgrove is doing her part to help bridge that gap — partnering with HP's 'Girls Save the World' program. The program, which operates in partnership with MIT's Solv[ED] Youth Challenge platform, gives young girls the opportunity to promote environmental advocacy and social entrepreneurship in their own lives.

"I'm really excited to be working with HP on something so cool...[this campaign] is all about getting girls from the ages of 13 to 18 to come up with ideas to help the environment in their local communities," she told Yahoo Finance.

"It's all about bringing girls together, letting them know that their voices can be heard that they can make a huge difference in the world," she continued.

A self-proclaimed animal advocate (she's currently fostering six pets!), Cosgrove said she became passionate about the environment at an early age after working with Oceana, a nonprofit ocean conservation organization.

Today, the actress says she is careful about who and what she chooses to support — hence why 'Girls Save the World' is such a vital cause to her.

"Being in the entertainment business from a young age, as you get older, you're very careful what you attach your name to because you realize how important that is," she said.

Dante Basco, the voice actor behind Prince Zuko in Nickelodeon's beloved animated Avatar: The Last Airbender series, has revealed that he's given Dallas Liu advice on playing the beloved character for Netflix's live-action series.

After spending years in development, Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender is officially pushing forward towards production. Hyped as a reimagining of the beloved Nickelodeon series, the project has filled in most of the key roles for the first season, with Gordon Cormier stepping into the titular role of Avatar Aang. Netflix's Avatar also stars up-and-comers Kiawentiio (Katara) and Ian Ousley (Sokka).

Liu, meanwhile, has built up some exciting credits over the years. Most recently, he starred in Hulu's acclaimed sitcom Pen15 and put in a small appearance in Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Avatar: The Last Airbender will be his biggest project yet, and he's got an excellent role. Zuko starts the show as the primary antagonist, only to evolve into a key ally for Aang and his friends. His character development has long been praised by fans, and getting him right will be important for Netflix's Avatar.

Luckily, Liu has someone very important in his corner. Basco, who voiced Zuko throughout all three seasons of the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender, gave a Q&A at FACTS 2021 (via Avatar News) and revealed he's spoken to Liu about the Netflix series. Basco gave Liu some advice on taking on the part of Zuko, but he mainly told the young actor it's ultimately his turn to own it. Basco said:

“I just had a conversation with the new kid playing Zuko on the show for Netflix-- Dallas Liu-- and we were talking about the character, and, you know, I was kinda passing the torch, like, bro, it’s your turn to play him, how you’re gonna play him.

“I’ll tell you things about how I did it, and it could help you on your journey, but ultimately, it’s your turn to play him how you’re gonna play him, wherever that character intersects with you.”

In the years since the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender, Basco has remained very involved with the fanbase and the franchise. Earlier this year, he confirmed he had spoken to original creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino about the Netflix series back when they were attached (they departed the project last year over creative differences). Since then, Basco's involvement with the new Avatar has been up in the air, though it's clear that even if he isn't on board in an official capacity, he's still happy to interact with those making it. That Basco has lent his support to Liu as the new Zuko both speaks highly of Liu's potential in the role and is a sweet gesture from one actor to another.

Fans will want Liu to capture the essence of what Basco brought to the role, but the voice actor is right in saying it's now Liu's turn to put his spin on Zuko. As with any adaptation, elements of Zuko are bound to change with the Netflix Avatar: The Last Airbender, and those aspects can give Liu space to create a memorable performance. If he is ever uncertain, he can look to Basco, but Liu might not have to. He was cast for a reason, and fans can't wait to see what it is.

From SYFY WIRE:

ORIGINAL 'AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER' CAST PASSES ON WISDOM FOR LIVE-ACTION REMAKE AT ECCC 2021

Dallas Liu will play the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation in Netflix's live-action remake.

Over the summer, Netflix rounded out the principal cast for its live-action remake of Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender. Upon landing the coveted role of the firebending Prince Zuko, Dallas Liu (recently seen in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) reached out to the character's original voice actor, Dante Basco, for advice.

"We got in a great conversation and I'm really rooting for the guy and passing the torch on," Basco said at Emerald City Comic Con Sunday afternoon. "I said, 'Look, man, we're part of a small fraternity of the guys that have gotten to play Zuko so far.' Me, Dev [Patel], and Dallas. I said, 'It's your turn.' We had a lot of conversations about the character and about the relationship with Uncle Iroh and how I played the character and what I was thinking. At the end of the day, I said, 'It's your turn, kid.'"

The Netflix project suffered a major setback last year when the original Avatar co-creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, parted ways with the company over creative differences. "The question really is, 'How do you improve on the animated version of this?'" asked Dee Bradley Baker (the voice of Appa, Momo, and Chong) during the ECCC discussion. "What does another rendering in a different space add or improve to what is already a kind of perfect work of art and a fully-rendered world? Now, I'm not saying that can't be done, but there's the bar as far as I'm concerned."

"The crazy thing is a lot of animated projects — whether it be American or anime or whatnot — we all have such a feeling about those projects," Basco added. "It's almost like, 'Have we not learned the lessons?' If you're gonna do it, do the story that's continued where we can no longer have a feeling about that scene because we've seen that scene. If you just took the characters and put them on a new adventure, then it'll free up all the artists to progress it. Because I couldn't think of an animated show that was a live-action [adaptation] that we actually like."

Nevertheless, he is hoping the live-action iteration does turn out successfully. "I don't know what's gonna happen with the new show. We're part of the Avatar family, so we always, of course, root for good things to happen. It's really interesting to see that the fans are on edge just as much as all of us."

The panel also included a live performance of "Secret Tunnel," courtesy of Baker. Afterwards, he recounted the story behind the now-iconic song featured in Book Two, revealing that he was asked to record the song at the very last minute and wasn't sure it would work.

"They sent me the demo on a tape and I just thought, 'Uh, this is not going to be good and I really don't know,'" the actor recalled. "I remember going to the session and them saying, 'Well, what do you think about this guy?' [I said] 'I think it'd be funny if he's just kind of this hippie trippy guy ... The nice thing about the Airbender universe [is that] it allows a sense of character and comedy that is not just this in-your-face attack you kind of comedy, but also an interesting character to exist. I thought I'd try choosing a weird little character and they liked it. So, we sang a little song. It's like, 'Oh...actually, that's kind of a cute little song.' And then I saw the episode and it's like, 'Ohhh, this is great. I love this.'" You never know until you see it."

Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are currently streaming on Netflix alongside the live-action film adaptation written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The streamer has yet to announce a premiere date for the upcoming remake.

‘The Garcias’: HBO Max Unveils Full ‘The Brothers Garcia’ Reboot Cast, Production Underway

The Garcias, HBO Max’s revival of the hit Nickelodeon series The Brothers Garcia, has set its cast for season 1, Deadline reports. The new series hails from New Cadence Productions, the banner founded by Brothers Garcia co-creator and executive producer Jeff Valdez.

As previously announced, all six core cast members from the original series — Ada Maris (Sonia Garcia), Carlos Lacamara (Ray Garcia), Alvin Alvarez (Larry Garcia), Jeffrey Licon (Carlos Garcia), Bobby Gonzalez (George Garcia), Vaneza Pitynski (Lorena Garcia) — are set to reprise their roles in the reboot.

New cast members joining the series are Oliver Alexander as Max Garcia; Nitzia Chama as Ana Garcia; Maeve Garay as Victoria Garcia; Elsha Kim as Yunjin Huh Garcia; Ayva Severy as Andrea Huh Garcia; and Trinity Jo-Li Bliss as Alexa Huh Garcia. See the cast photos and character descriptions below the story.

The cast of "The Garcias" on location in Puerto Aventuras NEW CADENCE PRODUCTIONS

The Garcias is currently in production in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, in and around the town of Puerto Aventuras. It is a slice of life of an American family that just happens to be Latino. By shooting the show in San Antonio, Texas and Mexico, the series juxtaposes an American Latino family in Mexico.

The Brothers Garcia originally aired for four seasons on Nickelodeon, from 2000 to 2004.

The original series, billed as the first English-language sitcom to have an all Latino cast and creative team, revolved around the Garcia family, narrated by Larry, the adult version of one of the family’s sons. Larry recounts his life alongside George, Carlos, and Lorena (his two brothers and twin sister, respectively), and the way they deal with everyday problems such as school, work, growing up, and all living in one house in San Antonio, Texas.

The new version finds the Garcia children as adults and gathering with their parents for a summer vacation in a fancy beach house.

“We are really excited with our large cast,” said NCP Partner and show creator Jeff Valdez “They truly reflect America as it looks today. The stories and characters are not cookie cutter stereotypes. Since the show is serialized, audiences will be able to follow and embrace the fun and complex characters in our slice of life show. We posted the new cast members’ final auditions on our Instagram page @thegarciatstv and it’s really moving to see the emotional moment we captured when an actor gets the role.”

The Garcias is slated to debut on HBO Max later this year.

From Forbes:

This Wealthy Enclave In Riviera Maya Mexico Is The Backdrop To A New Latino Series, ‘The Garcias’

Located just 20 minutes south of Playa del Carmen is a small town called Puerto Aventuras where two marinas and a gated luxury community are surrounded by lush tropical jungle. It is the only private development with an ocean-front marina along the Riviera Maya shorelines and is fronted by three sheltered bays.

Out of all Riviera Maya’s resort communities, the one in Puerto Aventuras stands above the rest with more English speaking business owners, restaurants serving American fare and a luxury Thomas Leman golf course adjoining the 900-acre gated community. This attracts many international retirees, wealthy investors, and also offers a safe shelter for golfers and vacationers. It has become a dream haven for retirees, especially from the United States, and with the town’s proximity to Tulum, (30 minute drive), offers abundant options for day trips.

I spoke with Román Rivera Torres, Architect and creator of the Puerto Aventuras development which he founded in 1998, and he was excited about bringing Hollywood filmmakers to the area to showcase the area and its unique offerings.

“Puerto Aventuras is the first large-scale Resort along the Riviera Maya to be self- operated, and independent from government intervention,” he said. “The Resort is developing a unique concept known as ¨Central Park¨ as part of our Master Plan allowing all open air family activities to take place along with our special security preventing outside influences linked to corruption and drugs.”

He explained that Puerto Aventuras´ population has 4,500 to 9,000 on the East side for tourism and counts on the support of the town of 39,000, which is soon to become an independent Municipality.

Some of the most famous movies have been shot in Mexico from Titanic, and Rambo to James Bond’s 007 Spectre, and now a group of latino filmmakers are creating new material in the Riviera Maya region showcasing authentic latino stories that reflect away from traditional stereotypical characters.

“The Garcias,”  is HBO Max’s reboot of the hit Nickelodeon series The Brothers Garcia, and comes from New Cadence Productions, the banner founded by Brothers Garcia co-creator and executive producer Jeff Valdez.

By shooting the show in Puerto Aventuras, the series showcases an American Latino family in Mexico. According to executive producer Sol Trujillo, “The show is going to inspire the Latino community, and we are breaking traditional stereotypes. Most studios are making films with Mexican drug dealers, and cartels. But if you were a Latino parent, do you want your kids watching it? There are certain generations of Latinos now that don't want to watch that stuff either. Our story is about a family that happens to be Latino.”

Jeff Valdez says “Part of the reason we shot in Mexico was because we had such a tight budget and we had to get our money to go further. We filmed within the gated community of Puerto Aventuras which really helped in terms of COVID because we were kind of a bubble within a bubble.”

“When we wrapped production we left a lot of the stuff in a place called the Pueblo which is the poorer part of the town where a lot of the workers live” he said. “We gave electronic equipment to the local boys and girls club, and we rented a small house for a scene, cleaned it up, and gave them a roof for their patio, and put a new fence up. We had to leave this place better than how we found it. We spent a lot of money there and a lot of people really benefited from that. I believe that there's an opportunity to create a new shooting mecca in Puerto Aventuras.”

Sol Trujillo is not only producing “The Garcias,” but is committed to reshaping the true narrative of what Latinos mean to the U.S. and the economy. As former president and CEO of US West Communications, he became the first U.S. born Latino to lead a Fortune 200 company.

Trujillo together with Gary Acosta, founder of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals, launched L'ATTITUDE in 2018, and has since become an annual conference held in San Diego as a critical platform for engaging leaders from most sectors of the economy. Helping to understand how U.S. Latinos are the driving force of 21st Century economic growth, as well as being a major influence on American sports, entertainment, and culture.

Trujillo tells me “We're creating a platform for conversation, for data, for exposing facts and data as opposed to just opinions and having it centered on what I call the new mainstream economy, which is 21st Century America versus 20th century.”
