In a message to a fan on Facebook, Mattel revealed the unfortunate news that Thomas & Friends episodes and specials are no longer available on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. in the U.S.
Thomas & Friends first launched on Nickelodeon USA in March 2018, beginning with season 21. Prior to airing on Nickelodeon, the series aired on PBS, the franchise's longtime U.S. broadcast partner.
Nickelodeon's partnership with Mattel saw the launch of the brand-new seasons of Thomas & Friends on the Nick Jr. channel, as well as additional specials, including Thomas & Friends: Big World! Big Adventures! The Movie, that will aired on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. Nickelodeon also become Mattel's exclusive U.S. consumer products agent for Thomas & Friends across multiple merchandise categories including apparel, accessories, home goods, consumer electronics, and more. It's currently unknown whether this will be affected by Nickelodeon no longer broadcasting the series.
Nickelodeon no longer airing Thomas & Friends effectively leaves the series without a shed in the U.S. A selection of episodes are currently available on Amazon Prime and Roku Kids, and a broad range of Thomas & Friends content is available for fans to watch on the brand's YouTube channel and through the YouTube Kids app.
New episodes of Thomas & Friends are still expected to air on Milkshake! on Channel 5, the franchise's U.K. home.
