Nickelodeon's 'Kid of the Year' and 'The Substitute' Nominated in 2021 International Format Awards

Two of Nickelodeon's unscripted properties have received nominations in the 2021 International Format Awards!


Nickelodeon's Kid of the Year has been nominated in the "Best Brand-Driven Format" category of this year's International Format Awards. Kid of the Year is a multiplatform initiative recognizing extraordinary young leaders who are making a positive impact in their communities. After whittling down an extensive list of honorees, the top 5 honorees were featured in a TV special hosted by Trevor Noah (The Daily Show with Trevor Noah) in December 2020, with 15-year-old scientist and inventor Gitanjali Rao from Colorado ultimately being recognized as Kid of the Year and featured on a cover of TIME with a companion story in TIME for KidsKid of the Year is co-produced by TIME Studios, Day Zero Productions, Mainstay Entertainment and Nickelodeon for Nickelodeon Networks, and is distributed by Nickelodeon.

Joining Kid of the Year is The Substitute, which has been nominated for the "Best Comedy Format" award. Currently in its second season, the series is hosted Mexican social media sensation Juanpa Zurita, who helps undercover celebrities pull off a day of ridiculous mayhem as the substitutes for unsuspecting kids. The series is produced by The Intellectual Property Corp for Nickelodeon Networks and distributed by Nickelodeon.

The 2021 International Format Awards were unveiled following four weeks of online voting by a panel of the world’s leading format commissioners, buyers and producers.

More than 200 formats were entered from across the globe in a year when the quality and range of the formats has not been dimmed by the pandemic. A full list of 2021 International Format Awards finalists can be found here.

The winners will be announced in a digital ceremony to be streamed on C21Media.net and the MipFormats website on April 13 at 16.00 CET.

The International Format Awards are a coproduction between C21Media, FRAPA, the Entertainment Masterclass and MipFormats.
