Nickelodeon Acquires Global Broadcast Rights To "Regal Academy"

Nickelodeon has picked up the global rights to Rainbow's major new children's property "Regal Academy"!

Beginning in spring 2016, kids around the world will be able to delight in the fun of "Regal Academy", a brand-new girl-targeted series (26 x half hours), when it airs on Nickelodeon platforms worldwide. The show will also air on RAI in Italy beginning later next year, and many other major broadcasters worldwide are expected to follow after additional broadcast agreements were signed with a number of major broadcasters worldwide at the recent MIPCOM entertainment content market.

"Regal Academy" is a brand-new funny and exciting animated series featuring a mixture of comedy, music and innovative animation techniques. The new show takes the world of fairy tales and turns it upside down through the adventures of Rose Cinderella, a normal girl who suddenly finds herself in the world of Fairy Tales.

"Regal Academy" takes the familiar world of fairy tales and adds a delicious and charming twist. The action takes place through the eyes of Rose Cinderella, a normal girl who suddenly finds herself in the world of Fairy Tales. Here she discovers that Cinderella is her grandmother! Rose is enrolled at the fabled Regal Academy where her fellow students include Hawk SnowWhite, Travis Beast, Joy LeFrog, Astoria Rapunzel and LingLing Iron Fan, all of whom belong to the school’s founding families.

"We are excited about Regal Academy’s huge potential," commented Joanne Lee, COO of Rainbow Group. "We have worked for more than five years to ensure the highest quality animation and, with Nickelodeon as our distribution partner, we are confident it will delight children around the world."

Additionally, Rainbow has also named three master toy licensees for its new children's property "Regal Academy".

Giochi Preziosi will serve as the pan-European master toy licensee for the brand; while Guangdong Alpha Animation & Culture Co., which specialises in both toys and animation, will cover the U.S., Canada and Asia; and Witty Toys, which has a strong reputation in toy production and distribution across more than 20 countries, will manage the rest of the world.

Giochi Preziosi is already developing a range that includes fashion dolls and accessories, play sets and role play toys. A range of dolls will be the first toy line on the market and will launch in Europe in the run-up to Christmas 2016, building on the strong expected response to the show's first series (season).

Other licensees already signed on include Justbridge Entertainment (DVD distribution) and Italian publisher Fabbri Editori (storybooks and activity and novelty formats). Procos has also signed a multi-territory agreement to cover the party-ware category.

To further promote the show, Rainbow has teamed up with luxury shoe brand Loriblu for a marketing campaign, using designer heels to push "Regal Academy" at various events, including MIPJunior and BLE 2015, where, this week, guests have the chance to win shoes as part of a Cinderella-themed competition.

"Regal Academy" is the latest property created and developed by Rainbow, the force behind Winx Club, whose consumer products sales generated more than US$2 billion at global retail last year.
