'SpongeBob Musical' Tony Nominee Ethan Slater to Be Honored at Broadway Beacon Awards

The non-profit educational organization Inside Broadway will honor Tony Award-nominated SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical star Ethan Slater at its annual Broadway Beacon Awards Gala, set to take place June 25 at the JW Marriott Essex House!


Each year the Broadway Beacon Awards are presented to individuals who advocate for live theatre and the positive impact it has on young people—not only as audience members, but as participants in arts education programs in New York City’s public schools.

Tony nominee for Best Lead Actor in a Musical, Ethan Slater is currently making his Broadway debut in the World Premiere of SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical. For this performance he has also received: 2018 Outer Critics Circle Award, 2018 Theatre World Award, 2018 Drama Desk Awards, Broadway.com Awards for Favorite Leading Actor in a Musical and Favorite Breakthrough Performance (Male). Other credits: Diner (DTC, dir. Kathleen Marshall); Off Broadway: Baghdaddy (St. Luke's), PEMDAS (59E59), Claudio-Quest (NYMF); film: Lightning Bugs in a Jar (Cannes 2015), EVOL; web series: Redheads Anonymous, New Mayor of New York. Vassar graduate and member of OYL.

Honored alongside Slater will be The Band’s Visit lead producer Orin Wolf, Kenneth G. Alberstadt and Alexandra Kambouris Alberstadt.

The gala evening will feature a performance from the Broadway cast of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, as well as students from P.S. 97 in Brooklyn, who participate in Inside Broadway’s educational programs. Baruch Shemtov will host the evening.

Inside Broadway, established by Michael Presser in 1982 in cooperation with The Shubert Organization, today reaches over 70,000 New York City students in over 100 public schools each year. Their programs include an annual Equity musical production that tours to schools as well as a wide range of educational programs that allow participants to interact with professionals in the field and experience theatre hands-on in the classroom.
