Nickelodeon USA to Premiere 'Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' on Monday 17th September 2018

Nickelodeon has just announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 that Nick USA will start to premiere and show Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Monday 17th September 2018! COWABUNGA! More news coming soon!

Ready to Rise? The trailer for Nickelodeon's new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series is emerging from the sewer, and you can get a glimpse right here, mere seconds after it made its debut during Nick's Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Comic-Con panel!

Debuting Sept. 17, the Nickelodeon 2-D animated action-comedy — which centers on four crime-fighting turtle brothers with emerging ninja powers and reimagines some TMNT dynamics — will see the quartet “encounter absurd mutants and battle bizarre villains, each with their own motivations” and “discover a mystical world they never knew existed beneath the streets of New York City.” The amped-up trailer offers assorted calls to action and one Jersey joke.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles features a celeb-heavy voice cast, including Omar Miller (Ballers) as the oldest sibling/ringleader Raphael, Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) as the charming Leonardo, Josh Brener (Silicon Valley) as tech whiz Donatello, Brandon Mychal Smith (You’re The Worst) as the skateboarding artist Michelangelo, and Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries) as human friend April O’Neil — and the first African-American April. Eric Bauza (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) also joins the cast as Splinter, both father figure and sensei to the turtles, while John Cena plays the villain Baron Draxum, who’s determined to turn everyone on Earth into mutants.

Even more famous folks have been added to the guest cast: Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) voices a giant spider mutant named Big Mama; John Michael Higgins (Pitch Perfect) is Warren Stone, a former news anchor turned mutant earthworm; Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) voices Albearto, a birthday-loving robot; Veep stars Sam Richardson and Tim Simons will be heard as a pair of Draxum’s gargoyles named Huginn and Muninn; Sex Pistols and PiL singer John Rotten Lydon voices a power-seeking mutant pig named Meat Sweats; Rhys Darby (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) is Hypno-Potamus, a mutant magician/hippo; Jorge Gutierrez (El Tigre) is Ghostbear, a human pro-wrestler champion who likes to cheat; Rob Paulsen (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) plays Foot Lieutenant, the leader of the Foot Clan; and Maurice LaMarche (Animaniacs) is Foot Brute, the Foot Lieutenant’s right-hand man.

If you don’t want to wait until September to check out Rise, the first episode can be previewed at Friday, July 20, at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon USA.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise started in the ’80s as a comic book series, expanding its footprint into film (Megan Fox and Will Arnett starred in two Michael Bay TMNT moves in 2014 and 2016), TV, and video games. Nickelodeon aired a 3-D computer animated series titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that ran from 2012 to 2017. A third Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is in the works.

SDCC: Nick Reveals Trailer, Premiere Date for ‘Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’

San Diego got a major infusion of Turtle Power today as the Comic-Con panel for franchise revamp Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles took fans behind-the-scenes, sneaked never-before-seen clips, and revealed the new trailer and premiere date: Monday, September 17! The panel featured new voice cast Omar Miller (Raph), Ben Schwartz (Leo), Josh Brener (Donnie), Brandon Mychal Smith (Mikey), Kat Graham (April O’Neil) and Eric Bauza (Splinter), co-executive producers Andy Suriano and Ant Ward, and legendary voice director Rob Paulsen; moderated by Keely Flaherty of BuzzFeed.

Nickelodeon has also let new guest star info and character art slip out of its shell. The lineup of new mutants and bizarre villains includes Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) as Big Mama, a gigantic spider mutant; John Michael Higgins (Pitch Perfect) as Warren Stone, a former news anchor turned mutant earthworm; Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Albearto, a singing, birthday-loving rampaging robot; Sam Richardson and Tim Simons (Veep) as Muninn and Huginn, gargoyles who are never far from their master, Baron Draxum (voiced by WWE Superstar John Cena); John Rotten Lydon (Public Image Ltd. and Sex Pistols) as Meat Sweats, a power-hungry mutant pig; Rhys Darby (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Hypno-Potamus, a mutant magician/hippo; and Jorge Gutierrez (El Tigre) as Ghostbear, a human pro-wrestler champion with a taste for cheating.

“Playing an arch-fiend in the TMNT universe finally means I have arrived!” said Higgins. “First, I got a gold-embossed letter from SAVNeT (Society of Arch Villains of the Ninja Turtles) and then we all did our Caribbean cruise, and of course the Mini-Golf Tournament. Though Warren Stone is an incorrigible criminal and a thoroughly rotten character, I have great respect for him. He takes his broadcasting career very seriously and will leave no Stone unturned to cheat someone out of what is rightfully his. Also, I’m glad the show is animated because everything that happens to Warren Stone looks like it hurts like crazy.”

Plus, Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche reunite as Foot Lieutenant, the de-facto leader of the sinister Foot Clan; and Foot Brute, his right-hand man.

The 26-episode series is co-exec produced by Andy Suriano (character designer, Samurai Jack) and Art Ward (supervising producer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) at Nickelodeon in Burbank.

The 2D-animated action-comedy follows the Turtles on all-new adventures as they master new powers, while bizarre and mutated creatures and villains emerge to take on Raph, Leo, Donnie and Mikey in battles across New York City. From the tallest skyscraper to the dankest sewer drain, the brothers learn to work together and navigate the perils of New York City and the hidden realms below to fulfill their destiny as heroes.

The half-hour launch episode “Mystic Mayhem” sees the Turtles discover that, much to their surprise, they’re not the weirdest New Yorkers around… Fans can catch a sneak peek of this adventure on Friday, July 20 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon. Additional episodes will be available on the Nick App, nick.com and Nick On Demand. Rise is set to roll out on Nickelodeon channels and branded programming blocks in more than 170 countries and territories following the Sept. 17 debut.

RISE OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES ANNOUNCE VILLAIN CAST INCLUDING JOHN CENA, LENA HEADEY, JOHNNY ROTTEN, MORE AT COMIC-CON

Cowabunga, indeed. The turtles are back and better than ever. With the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles upon us thanks to their new show at Nickelodeon, a new generation of pizza-chomping, ninja-stomping kids is about to learn about some classically-named mutant reptiles.

After debuting a trailer and a theme song, all that was left for the show was to introduce the cast and show some action from this jacked, angular iteration of TMNT. At their presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, that’s exactly what they did - with one evil announcement in particular dominating the day.

The panel included the full voice cast of the heroes in a half shell - Omar Miller (Raph), Ben Schwartz (Leo), Josh Brener (Donnie), and Brandon Smith (Mikey) - and their friends - a fully-costumed Kat Graham (April) and the incredible Eric Bauza (Splinter). Co-executive producers Andy Suriano and Ant Ward were also in attendence, joining Rob Paulsen, the voice of every single one of your favorite animated characters (seriously - the guy has almost 500 acting credits), who is also featured on the team as their voice director. But you're not here to be dazzled by voice acting legends, you want details about this new spin on the turtles.

According to Graham, she wanted to bring fierceness and sass to April's character so that "the girls feel like they have some representation" even though it's a cartoon about four dude turtles whooping up on baddies. Brener described Paulsen's role as like The Giver, being the inter-generational link for the TMNT lore, as the actors all confirmed that they all felt free to play around with the voices and find their own take on the classic characters - with even Splinter getting a little wacky.

Something else a little different is the weaponry used by the turtles. No longer the standard katana, bo staff, sai, and nunchaku, this iteration of turtles are getting a bit more fantastical in their combat abilities: with the arsenal adding a whole new swath of Japanese-influenced murder sticks. But more exciting are the villains they'll be whacking with them.

And holy shell, is this cast stacked. John Cena, Lena Headey, Johnny Rotten, Rhys Darby, John Michael Higgens, and more are coming to the upcoming season as baddies. Headey plays Big Mama, a crime boss akin to Kingpin, said Suriano, while Rotten plays a character named...Meat Sweats. Yuck. I can't wait.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premieres this September.
