Nickelodeon International Acquires Rights to 'Chop Chop Ninja' Animated Series

GoldBee has inked a new agreement with Nickelodeon International that will see Chop Chop Ninja, an adventure-comedy series from Montreal’s Sardine Productions and Gamerizon Studio, being added to the Nickelodeon lineup in territories across the globe!

Chop Chop Ninja follows a rookie named Iro and his three best friends at the Ninja Academy, where they practice the arts of fighting villains and mastering stillness, among other ninja disciplines.

Chop Chop Ninja (40 x 11-minute episodes plus 40 x 1.5-minute shorts) began airing in Southeast Asia on Nickelodeon networks and platforms back in November 2018. The series will roll out this quarter in a number of other territories, including Italy, the Middle East and Africa. The series is aimed towards kids aged between 6-to-12 years-old.

Below is the official show description for the series:

Iro, an exuberant young ninja, has one big dream: to become THE Chop Chop Ninja. There is no higher achievement for a ninja! Is he ready for it? Not even close. Does he want it? More than anyone. Will getting there be fun? Absolutely! Along with his three friends and classmates at the Academy, Jo, Neeko and Tetsuo, Iro protects his island home from a steady onslaught of treacherous and not so treacherous villains, and protects the mysterious Medallion from the clutches of Magic Master, in hopes of proving that he deserves the legendary title of CHOP CHOP NINJA.

Produced in Montreal by Sardine (ToonMarty) and Gamerizon Studio, the series was originally commissioned by Corus Entertainment and premiered in October 2018 on both its French and English Teletoon networks in Canada. Chop Chop Ninja is supported by the Bell Fund, the Canadian Media Fund, the Shaw Rocket Fund, the CPTC and SODEC.

Distributed by Spain’s GoldBee, the 2D-animated non-verbal slapstick shorts and have already been sold into more than 120 territories. The property was originally a mobile game with 10 different app iterations, and then the full series was jointly produced with interactive online game Chop Chop Ninja Academy.

Nickelodeon International previously acquired the pay-TV and non-exclusive Video on Demand (VOD) rights to the mobile-based, non-verbal animated comedy series for channels across the UK and continental Europe, Russia, Central Europe, Turkey, Israel, South East Asia and Africa in March 2016.

In a separate agreement that covers both linear pay-TV and Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) rights, Talit Communications in Israel picked up Chop Chop Ninja to broadcast on its Junior channel.

Christophe Goldberger, GoldBee’s managing director, said: “The mobile-based property started as a popular series of ten app games. It has grown to now include non-verbal slapstick fillers, which have sold in over 120 territories, and two online games that are licensed together with the series. We are very happy to have Nickelodeon International and Talit Communications on board with this fun and light-hearted series.”

Ghislain Cyr, president of Sardine Productions and producer of Chop Chop Ninja, added: “It is with pride and joy that our latest series has been picked up by Nickelodeon and Talit Communications. We could not ask for better partners to take the Chop Chop Ninjas to the homes of our international audience.”
