Nickelodeon will premiere Barbapapa, the brand new animated series inspired by the legendary shapeshifting Barbapapa family, in Germany (Deutschland), Austria (Österreich) and Switzerland (Schweiz) on Sunday 1st November 2020!
Nickelodeon Deutschland will air two episodes of Barbapapa back-to-back every Sunday at 09:30 and 09:55 Uhr, respectively.
Meanwhile, Nickelodeon Österreich and Nickelodeon Schweiz will launch Barbapapa by airing two episodes back-to-back, airing at 08:35 and 09:00 Uhr, respectively. Following launch, Nick AT & CH will continue to premiere three brand new episodes every Sunday, airing at 08:35, 09:00 and 09:25 Uhr.
In the German (Deutsch) dub of Barbapapa, voice actor Dennis Schmidt-Foß, best known for being the voice of Ryan Reynolds' character Wade Wilson in the German dub of Deadpool and the voice of Chris Evans' Steve Rogers in Captain America, will voice Barbapapa and Christin Marquitan will voice Barbamama.
Childhood friends since the 70s, the legendary Barbapapa family is once again adding cheer and creativity to the daily lives of children in their brand new animated series. The series follows daily lives of the extraordinary blob-shaped Barbapapa family, who can morph into other forms but retain their original colors. The Barbapapa family consists of parents Barbapapa and Barbamama and their seven children: The intellectual Barbotine; the coquette Barbabelle; the powerful Barbidur; inventor Barbidul; animal lover Barbidou; artist Barbouille; and musician Barbalala; plus their pet dog, Lolita. Together, the Barbapapa's are a large, happy family!
Nickelodeon International acquired the rights to the new Barbapapa series in June 2018 with plans to air in multiple countries across the globe. The 52×11’ episode series, produced by Normaal, will air on Nick Jr. channels in the UK, Benelux, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines for both pay- and free-TV. Nick Jr. has also licensed the series for pay-TV in France, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Israel, Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, India, South Korea and MENA.
Developed by French animation producer and distributor Normaal in partnership with TF1, Barbapapa is written and brought to life by Alice Taylor and Thomas Taylor.

The beloved Barbapapa universe began in 1970, emerging from the combined talent of French-American couple Anette Tyson and Talus Taylor. The original series aired in 40+ countries, including on Nick Jr. Italia (as Barbapapà), gaining worldwide fandom. Its success was followed by the production of a second series in 1977, then a third in 1999 by Japanese producer Kodansha.
Barbapapa is distributed by FESTIVAAL distribution. The series made its world debut on TF1 in France's Tfou programming strand on Sunday 10th November 2019, locally titled Barbapapa en famille (Barbapapa with Family).

In den 1970er Jahren eroberte die Zeichentrickfamilie "Barbapapa" erst die französischen und später immer mehr Kinderzimmer in vielen anderen Ländern. Schon im Sommer 2018 wurde bekannt, dass die französische Trickschmiede Normaal und der Sender TF1 eine Neuauflage entwickeln, für die sich Viacom mit seinen internationalen Nickelodeon-Ablegern die Rechte sichern konnte. Nachdem diese bereits im vergangenen Jahr ihre Weltpremiere gefeiert hat, kommt sie nun auch nach Deutschland.
Ab dem 1. November laufen die neuen Folgen immer sonntags um 9.30 und 9.55 Uhr bei Nick. Für die deutsche Fassung konnten mit Dennis Schmidt-Foß (Synchronstimme von Ryan Reynolds ("Deadpool") und Chris Evans ("Captain America")) als Barbapapa und Christin Marquitan als Barbamama zwei bekannte Synchronsprecher gewonnen werden.
Im Zentrum der Neuauflage stehen erneut die birnenförmigen, einfarbigen Figuren, die jedoch ihre Form knetmassenähnlich per Verwandlungsspruch ("Ra-Ru-Rick, Barbatrick") verändern können und so zum Beispiel als Schubkarre oder Brücke dienen, womit sie anderen helfen. Zur Familie gehören neben den Eltern Barbapapa und Barbamama auch ihre insgesamt sieben Kinder, darunter die Mädchen Barbabella, Barbaletta und Barbalala sowie die Jungen Barbarix, Barbawum, Barbabo und Barbakus. Gemeinsam erleben sie viele lustige und spannende Abenteuer.
International wird die Neuauflage von Festivaal vertrieben, von der zunächst 52 Episoden à elf Minuten bestellt wurden. Zum Leben erweckt werden die Figuren von Alice und Thomas Taylor, die auch für die einzelnen Geschichten verantwortlich zeichnen. Erfreulich: Im Gegensatz zu einigen Neufassungen, etwa von "Die Biene Maja", "Heidi" oder "Wickie und die starken Männer", verzichtete man komplett auf CGI-Elemente und produzierte in klassischem 2D.
Die Originalversion von "Barbapapa" wurde 1970 in Paris von der französischen Architekturstudentin Annette Tison und dem amerikanischen Biologielehrer Talus Taylor entwickelt - erst als Kinderbücher, die in über 30 Sprachen übersetzt wurden, dann als Trickserie. Diese lief hierzulande erstmals 1974 und dann lange Jahre im ZDF, letztmals war sie im Free-TV 2009 bel RTL zu sehen. Zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum der Fernsehserie entstand im Jahr 1999 das 50-teilige neue Format "Um die Welt mit Barbapapa", das jedoch nicht an den Erfolg des Originals heranreichte.
