'Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl' Dev Admits the Game Had a Bit of a 'Rough Launch'

Don't worry, there's no threat of development being cut off.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl developer Thaddeus Crews has revealed that he thinks the game launched in a "rough state" and that the team is "playing a lot of catch-up".

When it was first announced earlier this year, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl set the internet on fire. Here was a game that looked like it could stand up to Smash, with rollback netcode and competitive play that could even outrival it. Although the game launched to mostly positive reviews, it's lack of content has caused the excitement to die down a bit, and the development team at Ludosity to go a little quieter than they were before launch.

Although we know that DLC is coming to All-Star Brawl, because of this silence many fans were worried about the state of the game. This concern only grew when Warner Bros. played its hand and revealed MultiVersus earlier in the week, complete with character voices and many of the things that players wanted from All-Star Brawl.

Thankfully, Thaddeus Crews, character designer and programmer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, has reassured fans that the game is going nowhere and opened up a bit about the development of the game behind the scenes. As posted on the game's subreddit, Thaddeus posted in the game's official Discord, reassuring fans that the game wasn't going to be cancelled anytime soon.

He said, "It was a rough launch and we are playing a lot of catch-up, but I'm beyond thankful and thrilled to say that there's absolutely no threat or concern of us getting cut off in any way."

Thaddeus also discussed some elements of All-Star Brawl's development over on Twitter, saying "It's clear that a massive chunk of NASB had systems meant for something much smaller and meant for a tiny team, but then expectations/goals continually blew up and teams expanded and now we're left with "what do you mean there's a DOZEN different animation root systems?"

Even though All-Star Brawl is thought to have had a rough launch, the subreddit and community surrounding it seem happy with Thaddeus' message, and the promise that development for the game isn't just going to stop. In fact, coming very soon are alternate costumes!
