Nickelodeon's Second Annual NFL Broadcast Featured Another Big F-Bomb in the Middle of the Game

Following the success of last year's inaugural telecast, Nickelodeon and the NFL once again brought slime and mayhem to the field for the 2022 NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon, in which San Francisco 49ers took on the Dallas Cowboys while virtual slime cannons, Nickelodeon characters and a SpongeBob graphics in between goal posts entertained fans at home.

From its commentators to its visual effects, the NFL game was again geared toward the whole family, with kids getting in on the fun with Nickelodeon show references (featuring old and new shows) throughout the game.

Overall, the Wild Card Weekend broadcast was another huge hit for Nickelodeon, and also like last year, an “F-bomb” was accidentally broadcast on Nickelodeon.

Last year, it was Cordarrelle Patterson, then of the Chicago Bears, incredulously asking “What the f–k?” was up with an official’s call. This year, 49ers tight end George Kittle did the honors.

It looks like Kittle was unhappy with his individual block, or he tweaked something in the process of the play. Whatever the explanation was, he dropped a very audible “F–k” as the down was wrapping up. Unfortunately, Nickelodeon was unable to insert a bleep - or a dolphin cry from SpongeBob SquarePants - in time.

It's important to note that the NFL can regulate a lot of different things out of its game from quarterback hits to penalties. But regulating what people say on a microphone is probably beyond even their abilities - especially in the heat of the moment.

All profanity aside, Nickelodeon’s second annual NFL broadcast appeared to be a another hit, and viewers seemed to be looking past the misstep right along with the announcers in order to focus on Nickelodeon’s thoughtful use of the sport's platform. On Twitter, football fans were thankful they were able to more easily bring their children into a sport that they love, making it easier for long time fans can make new ones out of their family members.

Nickelodeon was able to add effects to the game digitally to bring Planet Nickelodeon to the world of football. Touchdowns triggered slime cannons, a Slime Monster made frequent appearances, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did recaps, and characters from Nickelodeon shows were helping explain the game to kids in real time. There was even special appearances from Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails!
