Nick+ In Canada To Close On Aug. 31

Corus Entertainment in Canada is reportedly planning to to shut down Nick+, its premium kids streaming platform, on August 31, with Nickelodeon programming being moved onto Paramount+ Canada.

Update (8/29) - Corus Entertainment has confirmed the closure of Nick+, with the service being rebranded TELETOON+. The new service will focus on Teletoon/Cartoon Network series.

Although the news is currently unconfirmed, it does fit in with a earlier report that a raft of Nickelodeon programming, including Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra and SpongeBob SquarePants, is set to leave Netflix Canada on September 1.

In addition to Paramount+, Corus and Paramount Global is set to launch Pluto TV, Paramount's free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) in Canada during Fall 2022, which is expected to feature Nickelodeon content.

Nick+ offers subscribers access to a vast catalog of Nickelodeon’s popular live-action and animated series along with the best preschooler programming from Nick Jr. Kids can watch their favourite Nickelodeon shows, such as Blue’s Clues & You!, iCarly, and SpongeBob SquarePants, The Legend of Korra, The Loud House, Bubble Guppies, Henry Danger, Blaze and the Monster Machines, The Thundermans, Dora the Explorer, as well as cherished classics and retro programming like Rugrats, and so much more. Plus, episodes are fully downloadable allowing Nick+ subscribers to load up on must-see episodes in advance to watch offline and on the go. With thousands of hours of content, Nick+ is the ultimate destination to watch Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. shows, anytime, anywhere commercial-free.

Nick+ is available in Portugal, Greece, Germany and Canada.

In Canada, Nick+ is available on Bell Fibe TV, Alt TV and Virgin TV, as well as on Amazon Prime Video Channels and Apple TV. Customers can subscribe directly to Nick+ for $5.99 per month.

With the global rollout of Paramount+ and international rollout of SkyShowtime, the joint-venture streaming platform from Paramount Global and Comcast, if the report of Nick+ closing in Canada is correct, Paramount may be eyeing to close down Nick+ in Portugal, Greece and Germany, too, preferring to have content from all the company's brands on one platform instead of spread over many branded platforms, such as Nick+.
