SpongeBob SquarePants is heading back to the big screen later this year in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, and to celebrate, Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Animation today (July 28) released a new poster for the Nickelodeon superstar's next theatrical adventure!
The latest poster for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants parodies the iconic scene from the beloved movie, Titanic, with SpongeBob and Patrick aboard the Flying Dutchman's ship. The poster goes further by featuring the tagline "near, far, wherever the pirates arrr," a play on the lyrics to Celine Dion's hit song "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic's soundtrack.
In The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends set sail in their biggest, all-new, can’t miss cinematic event ever! Desperate to be a big guy, SpongeBob sets out to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by following The Flying Dutchman – a mysterious swashbuckling ghost pirate – on a seafaring comedy-adventure that takes him to the deepest depths of the deep sea, where no Sponge has gone before. The movie is set to sail into theaters and RealD 3D on Friday, December 19th.
The cast includes Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward Tentacles), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks), Mr. Lawrence (Plankton), joined by George Lopez, Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola with Regina Hall, and Mark Hamill (The Flying Dutchman). Ice Spice will also contribute a song to the movie's soundtrack.
The SpongeBob feature film is directed by Derek Drymon (Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania), a longtime writer on the franchise. The screenplay is by Emmy winner Pam Brady (Smurfs; Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken; #1 Happy Family USA) and Matt Lieberman (Rumble, Scoob!, The Addams Family), from a story by SpongeBob veterans Marc Ceccarelli & Kaz and Pam Brady.
The film is produced by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies in association with Domain Entertainment and MRC. Producers are Lisa Stewart, p.g.a., Pam Brady and Aaron Dem. Executive producers are Marc Ceccarelli, Vincent Waller, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro and Andrew Lary.
Although The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is still a bit away, fans can get their fill of SpongeBob on the big screen early by watching the brand new Smurfs movie, in theaters today! The film is accompanied by the dialogue-free SpongeBob short, "Order Up," which sees SpongeBob annoying Squidward by overusing the Krusty Krab's Order Up bell.
