Prime Video is adding to its adult animation roster with a series from Solar Opposites alumni Mike McMahan and Dominic Dierkes.
The Amazon-owned streamer has picked up Odd Jobs, a show set 100 years or so in the future that follows a group of gig workers. The show comes from CBS Studios and animation studio Titmouse (Paramount+'s Star Trek: Lower Decks, Prime Video’s The Mighty Nein).
The series order for Odd Jobs comes on the heels of Solar Opposites concluding its six-season run on Hulu last fall. McMahan and Dierkes were executive producers on the final season.
The logline for Odd Jobs reads, “The year is 2127, the world is an extreme late-stage capitalist hellscape. The show follows a reluctant team of gig-workers as they travel around the neo Midwest, doing the weirdest most dangerous tasks the Odd Jobs app demands.”
“While wandering through the wilderness, we accidentally stumbled through a portal and found ourselves hundreds of years in the future,” McMahan and Dierkes said in a statement. “We witnessed bizarre and grotesque portents about where humanity is heading. Instead of acting on those warnings, we’re thrilled to turn them into an animated show.”
“Odd Jobs is sharp, absurd, and laugh-out-loud funny, taking a wildly imaginative look at a future that’s as chaotic as it is entertaining,” said Melissa Wolfe, head of animation at Amazon MGM Studios. “Mike and Dominic have built a bold, unpredictable world filled with hilarious characters, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with CBS Studios and Titmouse to bring this new comedy to Prime Video audiences around the world.”
McMahan and Dierkes will executive produce along with Titmouse principles Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina, and Ghostbusters producer Amie Karp.
McMahan, who was an Emmy-winning writer, producer and showrunner on Rick and Morty, also created Star Trek: Lower Decks. Dierkes has also been a writer on shows such as The Mick, Workaholics, Ash vs. Evil Dead and acted on Mystery Team, Community, Parks and Recreation and Mad Men.
