A new comic strip written by Mexican illustrator Cheko Aguiar is touching the hearts of SpongeBob SquarePants fans by narrating the death of the beloved sea sponge.

The story is told through the eyes of Squidward Tentacles, who tells how SpongeBob dying has affected the inhabitants of Bikini Bottom. He reveals that he is now taking care of SpongeBob's beloved pet snail, Gary; that the Krusty Krab has now closed for business, with Mr. Krabs selling the Krabby Patty secret formula to Plankton; and that Sandy is now so sad, that she can no longer perform experiments.
What is really breaking the hearts of fans though, is that SpongeBob's BFF, Patrick Star has now lost in mind, and has started to believe that his best friend is still alive, and is buried next to him.
The comic strip has since been turned into a short animation, and - even more bizarrely - has been shared on Nickelodeon Brazil's official Twitter account. Basically, the whole thing is Nickelodeon-sanctioned Creepypasta.

Na manhã desta terça-feira (28), uma tirinha escrita pelo ilustrador mexicano Cheko Aguiar emocionou os internautas ao narrar a morte de 'Bob Esponja'.
Apesar da Nickelodeon, canal responsável pela animação, ainda não ter se pronunciado sobre o ocorrido, o suposto fim da personagem ficou entre os assuntos mais comentados do Twitter e os fãs parecem inconformados.
A história é contada por Lula Molusco, que relata como ficou a Fenda do Biquíni após a partida de Bob Esponja. Ele revela que passou a cuidar Gary, o Siri Cascudo fechou e Sandy ficou tão triste que não consegue mais realizar experimentos. Mas, o que destruiu o coração dos internautas mesmo foi o fim de Patrick: ele perdeu a memória, passou a acreditar que o melhor amigo continua vivo, e é enterrado ao lado dele.
