Gitanjali Rao Talks About Being Named TIME and Nickelodeon's First-ever Kid of the Year

She's a fifteen-year-old inventor and scientist who will be featured in a TV special airing on Nickelodeon. Good Day Sacramento talked with Gitanjali Rao about the big news.

Watch the first-ever Kid of the Year TV special, hosted by Trevor Noah. The special will simulcast across Nickelodeon, TV Land, TeenNick and Nicktoons on Friday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT). It will also air on Comedy Central on Friday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) and CBS Television Network on Monday, Dec. 21, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). Click here for more information.

TIME names its first Kid of the Year


TIME magazine, in partnership with Nickelodeon, is recognizing its first Kid of the Year: 15-year-old scientist and inventor Gitanjali Rao. She stood out among more than 5,000 nominees for using technology to tackle issues ranging from water contamination to cyberbullying. Rao joined CBSN to discuss the honor and what representation as a young, female scientist of color means to her.
