Nickelodeon Announces Greenlight of 'SpongeBob & You!', Original CG-Animated 'SpongeBob SquarePants' Spinoff for Preschoolers, Slated to Premiere Spring 2022


Longtime SpongeBob Voice Actors to Reprise Roles

BURBANK, Calif.--Nickelodeon has given the official greenlight to SpongeBob & You! (working title), the third spinoff of the number-one animated series SpongeBob SquarePants. Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, SpongeBob & You! (13 episodes) is a new CG-animated curriculum-driven interactive preschool series that follows SpongeBob as he invites viewers to join him and his underwater pals on educational adventures around his hometown of Bikini Bottom. The series will debut early 2022 on Nickelodeon, Noggin and Paramount+. Click here for a first-look.

SpongeBob & You! will feature a curriculum that infuses the core elements of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) and will also cover kindergarten readiness, including literacy, shape recognition and socio-emotional development. The series will also boast an original soundtrack designed to help children learn through song, and will help reinforce the idea that everyday can be the Best Day Ever when you learn something new.

“Nickelodeon is diving even deeper into Bikini Bottom with SpongeBob & You!,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation. “This third original spinoff allows us to expand our reach, tell new stories and introduce our youngest viewers to the undersea world SpongeBob SquarePants. It will also connect with the franchise's original audience around the world who continue to love these characters.”

Veteran SpongeBob voice actors Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton) reprise their iconic roles in this new series.

Marc Ceccarelli (SpongeBob SquarePants), Vincent Waller (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Jennie Monica (SpongeBob SquarePants) are co-executive producers of the series.  SpongeBob & You! is developed for television by Claudia Spinelli, SVP of Animation Development, Nickelodeon, with production overseen by Kelley Gardner, Vice President, Current Series, Animation, Nickelodeon.

The greenlit comes as the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, debuts on Paramount+, and the recent greenlight of The Patrick Star Show, which will follow SpongeBob's best friend Patrick Star as a young adult.

New 'The Barbarian and the Troll' Clip Introduces the 'General of the Undead Army'

The central skeleton villain in Nickelodeon's The Barbarian and the Troll live-action puppet comedy is introduced to some eager, small helpers.

Fans of the upcoming The Barbarian and the Troll can get their first look at the live-action puppet comedy's central villain.

A new clip introduces viewers to a skeleton character who is tracking Brendar the Barbarian. He refers to himself as the "General of the Undead Army" before being interrupted by small forest dwellers. When the villain tells them that he is on a "revenge quest," they leap into action, requesting to tag along. Check out the sneak peek below, courtesy of CBR:

While the volunteers are eager to help out, our villain reminds them that his quest will be filled with "mayhem and gratuitous violence." However, this doesn't deter them, since only they know how to find Brendar. After some blackmail, they recruit the rest of their friends to tag along on this revenge quest.

In a second sneak peek, also via CBR, Brendar and her mighty talking ax team up for some outdoor training:

The clip starts off with Brendar practicing various yoga poses while her talking ax delivers some words of motivation. "Yeah, feel that stretch. Remember to breathe," the ax says. After calling the ax's father a butterknife, Brendar tosses it at a wooden bullseye. "In my mind, I was hurling it into the demon's gut," Brendar declares as her eyes start to wander off. "Oooo, such a bad barbarian," the ax replies.

Evan eventually shows up with the local wizard and owl to join her quest for redemption. Brendar attempts to give a speech before they start their journey, but the trio has trouble paying attention. The clip ends with Evan and the wizard making "duty" jokes at Brendar's expense.

In the premiere of The Barbarian and the Troll, Evan the troll decides to burn his bridge and venture out into the world of Gothmoria for the first time to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a singer. He soon meets Brendar, who had been expelled from the Royal Order of Warrior Princesses and is now known as a “feared and revered” barbarian. After Evan convinces Brendar to bring him on her quest to vanquish the evil demon, they cross treacherous terrain to confront bizarre and magical creatures and encounter an eclectic puppet cast of wacky characters.

The Barbarian and the Troll stars Spencer Grammer, Drew Massey, Colleen Smith, Allan Trautman, Sarah Sarang Oh, Nicolette Santino, Peggy Etra, James Murray, Jeny Cassady and Gina Yashere. The series, co-created by Mike Mitchell, who also serves as director, and Drew Massey premieres Friday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon.

Andamiro Retires SpongeBob Pineapple Arcade Game After Six Years

SpongeBob Pineapple Arcade has officially retired from service, according to Andamiro USA, a division of South Korea's Andamiro Co. Inc.

The final inventory of SpongeBob Pineapple units sold out in March, the company said in a press release. Parts and service support for the retired amusement machine line will be available for seven years.

SpongeBob Pineapple Arcade made its debut in early 2015 and consistently ranked high on performance charts throughout its six-year service life.

The game also won the hearts of players all over the world, becoming a pop culture icon. Patrons play to win tickets by firing tokens at targets, and by knocking off tokens and collectible cards from a moving "pusher" ledge. The game had two nine-set card series. Card supplies will be available for as long as demand lasts.

"SpongeBob Pineapple was a special game for many reasons," Andamiro USA president Drew Maniscalco said in the press release. "Personally, it was gratifying as it was my concept, but it was literally and figuratively a game-changer for Andamiro as a company."

Nickelodeon's durable cartoon celebrity, which has starred in several Andamiro games, most recently in the Krabby Patty Party “whacker” game, and will be reprising his arcade role in a new title, which will also play with collectible cards, in Andamiro's new SpongeBob game in 2022.

Poland operator Netia is offering customers the option to watch 24 television channels from its thematic packages in an open window. The channels will be available for all pay-TV subscribers until 03 May. Channels in the promotion include Nick Jr. Polska, Nickelodeon Polska and Nicktoons HD.

ViacomCBS Brazil Launches New Campaign to Encourage People to Take Preventative Measures Against COVID-19 and Talk About the Importance of the Vaccine

ViacomCBS Networks Americas has launched "Não Vacila", a new pro-social campaign on MTV and Comedy Central in Brazil (Brasil). Launched today (March 31), the campaign's main objective is to encourage people to take preventive measures against COVID-19 (coronavirus), as well as to talk about the importance of taking the vaccine when it is available for young people. The campaign is supported by Facebook and Instagram, with credits for ads in the apps to help the messages reach more people.

The idea for the campaign came from conversations between ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) and Facebook, which has been working to amplify quality content about coronavirus prevention and the safety and importance of vaccines.

The campaign, created in house, will be all digital, and can be seen on the social networks of MTV and Comedy Central.

A MTV e o Comedy Central lançam hoje a campanha "NÃO VACILA" que tem como objetivo principal pedir que as pessoas tomem medidas de prevenção contra a COVID-19, assim como falar da importância de tomar a vacina quando ela estiver disponível para os jovens. A campanha conta com o apoio do Facebook e Instagram, com créditos para anúncios nos aplicativos, para ajudar as mensagens a alcançar mais pessoas.

"Estamos vivendo um momento terrível, com milhares de mortes por dia, e sabemos que os jovens estão saindo, indo a festas clandestinas e encontros. Sendo a MTV e o Comedy Central duas marcas que se comunicam os jovens, temos a obrigação de mostrar a importância de se ficar em casa, evitando aglomerações", diz Natasha Szaniecki, diretora sênior de Comunicação e Impacto Social da ViacomCBS no Brasil.

A ideia da campanha surgiu a partir de conversas entre a ViacomCBS Networks International e o Facebook, que tem atuado para amplificar conteúdos de qualidade sobre a prevenção contra o coronavírus e sobre a segurança e importância das vacinas.

"Milhões de brasileiros usam os aplicativos do Facebook no Brasil, por isso, estamos apoiando campanhas que levam informações relevantes sobre prevenção para um público diverso. Nesse sentido, entendemos como estratégico apoiar a 'NÃO VACILA'", comenta o gerente de Políticas Públicas do Facebook, Eduardo Lopes.

A campanha, criada in house, tem início hoje e será toda digital, podendo ser vista nas redes sociais da MTV e do Comedy Central. "As peças são objetivas, claras e pedem que os jovens permaneçam em casa, mesmo batendo aquela vontade do rolezinho com a galera. Além disso, incentivamos que tomem a vacina, quando ela já estiver acessível", completa Natasha.
