Mall of America and Nickelodeon Universe Officially Recognized as a Certified Autism Center

Official International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) Press Release via Newswire:

Mall of America and Nickelodeon Universe Officially Recognized as a Certified Autism Center

The certification is granted by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards

PRESS RELEASE UPDATED: MAR 26, 2019 10:36 EDT

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., March 26, 2019 (Newswire.com) - Mall of America (MOA) and Nickelodeon Universe, the seven-acre theme park inside MOA, will now officially be recognized as a Certified Autism Center (CAC), granted by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). As the first destination in Minnesota to become a Certified Autism Center, the certification means that visitors and families with children who have autism and other sensory disorders can enjoy the best possible experience while visiting MOA that caters to their needs.

In order to earn the designation, 80 percent or more of the guest-facing staff had to complete the autism sensitivity and awareness training provided by IBCCES. MOA and Nickelodeon Universe also underwent an onsite review by IBCCES, which included recommendations to make the park more accessible for visitors with sensory sensitivities, as well as sensory guides for each ride to better prepare guests on what to expect when they arrive.

“We continually look at ways to invest in the guest experience, ensuring that everyone who visits Mall of America and Nickelodeon Universe has the best day ever,” said Jill Renslow, SVP of Business Development for Mall of America. “Working with the IBCCES to become a Certified Autism Center will ensure our team members are equipped with the proper knowledge and skills to communicate and assist those with sensory sensitivities in the most positive and effective way. We are proud to have completed the certification process but recognize this is just one step forward to identify new ways to further improve the overall guest experience.”

For almost 20 years, IBCCES has been the industry leader in autism training for licensed healthcare professionals and educators around the globe. IBCCES recognized that many families with children who have special needs have limited travel options. In response to this need, IBCCES created training and certification programs specifically for the hospitality and travel industry. While many destinations tout “autism-friendly” options, this phrase does not necessarily indicate a true understanding of these families’ requirements. More parents are seeking out destinations that have completed research-based training and professional review as they review travel options.

“Our goal is to ensure families with children on the spectrum have the same opportunities to experience attractions and new destinations as anyone else. Our Certified Autism Center designation is awarded to industry leaders who are paving the way to make sure they are welcoming these individuals and are choosing to complete a third-party, evidence-based process to ensure they are prepared,” said Myron Pincomb, IBCCES Board Chairman.

IBCCES also created AutismTravel.com, a free online resource for parents that lists certified destinations and connects families to other resources and each other. Each destination listed on the site has met Certified Autism Center (CAC) requirements.

STARRING JACE NORMAN AND ARIEL MARTIN,

ON NICKELODEON UK & IRELAND

Share it: @Nickelodeon UK #BixlerHighPl

Nickelodeon’s new original TV movie, Bixler High Private Eye, starring Jace Norman (Henry Danger) and multihyphenate actress, singer and author Ariel Martin, a.k.a. “Baby Ariel,” is set to premiere on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland on Friday 5th April 2019 at 6:00pm! The live-action comedy follows Xander DeWitt (Norman), an inquisitive teenager who has a knack for solving mysteries, as he tackles his biggest case yet when his father suddenly disappears.

In Bixler High Private Eye, Xander’s sleuthing skills get put to the test when his dad, Russell, leaves for work one day and vanishes without a trace. Frustrated by his attempts to find his dad, Xander’s mom sends him to go live with his grandfather (Ed Begley Jr.), a retired private investigator. It’s in his dad’s hometown that Xander finds a surprising lead in the case and builds an unexpected partnership with Kenzie Messina (Ariel Martin), an investigative reporter for the school newspaper.

Following the premiere of Bixler High Private Eye, Jace Norman will be taking over Nickelodeon for the Easter school holidays. Starting Monday 8th April 2019, fans can tune into Jacelodeon to catch brand-new episodes of Henry Danger and encores of Jace's hit Nickelodeon Original Movies, such as Splitting Adam, Rufus, Rufus 2 and Blurt!, all hosted by Jace.

Bixler High Private Eye marks Norman’s fifth starring role in a Nickelodeon TV movie, and his first as an executive producer. He currently stars in Nickelodeon’s Henry Danger, the number-one live-action show on TV with Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11, and the network’s longest-running live-action sitcom. Norman is also the co-founder of Creator Edge Media, an influencer marketing agency.

Ariel Martin, a.k.a. “Baby Ariel,” is an award-winning actress, singer, entrepreneur and author who has catapulted into mainstream media. She has captured an audience of over 40 million across all her social media platforms, and over 282 million views on her YouTube videos alone. Most recently, Martin released her debut book, “Dreaming Out Loud,” as well as her fourth single, “8 Letter,” in October 2018.

Bixler High Private Eye made its world debut on Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Monday, January 21, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT). Following its U.S. launch, the film will roll out on Nickelodeon’s international channels and branded blocks throughout 2019.

Bixler High Private Eye is executive produced by Jace Norman, Scott Norman, Rene Rigal (Immortals, 21 & Over) and Tobin Armbrust (Dark Places, Snitch), and is produced by Greg Sills (Grease Live!, Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards). The TV movie was written by Christopher Baldi (Jim Henson's Turkey Hollow) and Danny Kallis (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) & Michele Wolff (Ella Enchanted), and is directed by Leslie Kolins Small (Stuck in the Middle).

Nickelodeon Near Deal for Animated 'Star Trek' Series from Alex Kurtzman, Hageman Brothers & CBS TV Studios

‘Star Trek’: Nickelodeon Near Deal For Kids Animated Series From Alex Kurtzman, Hageman Brothers & CBS TV Studios

Alex Kurtzman and CBS TV Studios have set the latest extension of the beloved Star Trek TV franchise. Nickelodeon is said to be in negotiations for a Star Trek animated series from Emmy-winning writers Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters, Ninjago), CBS TV Studios and Kurtzman’s studio-based Secret Hideout banner, Deadline reports.

Update (3/26): Speaking on the red carpet at PaleyFest 2019 on Sunday, March 24, 2019, Star Trek producer Heather Kadin emphasized to SYFY Wire about how they're looking to give each new Star Trek project a distinct voice all its own.

"The important thing has been they should not feel the same at all," Kadin explained. "The show on Nickelodeon won’t feel at all like the animated show on CBS All Access, which is meant to be more of an adult animated show. Picard is going to look and feel completely different than Discovery… same as Section 31. They should all be different, because the minute you tune into one, and you’re like, 'Which show is this?' we failed."

Update (3/26 (ii)): Alex Kurtzman further confirmed to TrekMovie at PaleyFest Los Angeles that a animated Star Trek series is in the works at Nickelodeon, and that it'll be very different from Lower Decks!

Update (2/14) - Nickelodeon has confirmed to Kidscreen that the network is working on a new original animated series based on the world of Star Trek. Aimed at kids, Nickelodeon will partner with US broadcaster CBS to produce the show, which will be a first-of-its-kind take on the franchise!

Nickelodeon and the Hageman brothers have also confirmed the news on social media:

Penned by the Hageman brothers, the animated series is targeted at younger audiences. Because of that, it would be the first new Star Trek project outside of CBS All Access, which has an adult focus.

The project, whose concept and plot is being kept under wraps for now, is envisioned as a major tentpole series for Nickelodeon under its new president Brian Robbins, who was brought in in October to lead the kid-centric Viacom brand amid declining linear ratings and shifting viewing habits, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told media outlets. It also marks a collaboration between Viacom and CBS Corp companies that likely will become corporate siblings as their parents are headed to a merger.

The new animated series will join Star Trek: Discovery, now in its second season, along with Picard (working title) that will see the return of Patrick Stewart (American Dad) as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard; animated series Lower Decks from Mike McMahan (Rick & Morty) targeted at mature audiences, which received a two-season order in October 2018; and Section 31, which is in development with Michelle Yeoh attached to star. All are for CBS All Access. Star Trek: Lower Decks will focus on the the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships. Star Trek: Section 31 will be centered on Michelle Yeoh’s Discovery character and her work for the mysterious Section 31.

Kevin and Dan Hageman’s writing credits include The Lego Movie, The Lego Ninjago Movie, Hotel Transylvania, and the Trollhunters and Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu series. They most recently co-wrote the screenplay for Croods 2, which is currently shooting. They are repped by WME and Underground Management.

CBS TV Studios has been steadily building out its slate of Star Trek projects since the launch of Star Trek: Discovery in September 2017. Producer Alex Kurtzman signed a five-year deal at the studio last summer to oversee all Star Trek TV projects. Kurtzman first revealed the project to The Hollywood Reporter in January 2019.

"There’s other animated things that we’re building that are an entirely different perspective and an entirely different tone [from Lower Decks]. What’s exciting about it is not only looking at each animated series as what’s the different tone, but what’s the different technology we can apply to these things so that visually they’re entirely different?", Kurtzman told the THR.

"I go back to my childhood and Luke Skywalker, the [Star Wars] farm boy who looks out at the twin suns of Tatooine and imagines his future. Trek never gave me that, Trek was always fully formed adults, already in Starfleet and people who have decided who they are. And it never was aspirational that way. It’s important to me to find a way to go back and reach younger kids in a way that Trek should and never really has."

This will actually not be the first time in its history that Nickelodeon has featured Star Trek related programming. From 1985-1990, the cable network ran reruns of Star Trek: The Animated Series, the Filmation-produced animated version of Trek that originally ran from 1973 to 1974, featuring the voice talents of most of the Star Trek: TOS cast.

If the project comes to fruition, it would be the first modern-day Star Trek show to premiere outside of CBS All Access following CBS TV Studios reviving the franchise on its direct-to-consumer platform.

Kurtzman also teased the show and Lower Decks to ComicBook.com earlier this year:

“Yeah, we are in development on that now too, and that's happening for sure,” Kurtzman told ComicBook.com. “Animation, it takes a year. It's actually very much like what we're doing on our shows because of the visual effects component. It takes a year from writing the script, doing the animation, getting it back, refining it. So, we don't ever want to rush anything out until it's perfectly ready. And the beautiful thing about streaming is we don't have to. We get to keep doing it until we all love it, and then you get to watch. And hopefully, you'll love it too.”

“It is, but it's also...I think you'll find that it is utterly reverent of everything we love about Trek,” Kurtzman said of the kid-friendly animated series. “And so, our intention is that actually, it will also appeal to older kids too, even though, yes, it will traditionally look younger. But no, I think hopefully the age range is somewhere between 8 and 45.”

“They'll be connected, I would say, mostly peripherally,” Kurtzman explained to ComicBook.com. “It's incredibly important to all of us that each show is a unique prospect, that it doesn't feel like you're getting the same thing from each show. And so, each has to have its own identity. That means it's about certain things. The tone has to be unique and yet still be Star Trek. It has to visually look different from the other shows that we're planning on making.”

Are you excited to see a Star Trek animated series potentially hit Nickelodeon? Should the new series embrace an Avatar: The Last Airbender approach? Or should it go for a more comedic tone (like The Orville) to appeal to young viewers? What do you want to see in the series? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Nickelodeon Launches 'Nick Helps' Pro-Social Initiative

As part of Nickelodeon’s commitment to recognize real kids who are making a difference in the world, the network is launching Nick Helps, a new year-round pro-social initiative which aims to inspire kids to make the world a more positive place, and which will provide resources and services to partnering organizations that are dedicated to improving educational outcomes for children.

Beginning this month, Nickelodeon is teaming up with non-profit organizations including Jumpstart, WCS and Canine Companions For Independence to mobilize kids to participate in service projects.

On NickHelps.com, the digital hub for the Nick Helps initiative, users can find tips and information on ways to get involved in the community, and well as more information about the campaign and its partners.

As part of Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards 2019, Nickelodeon asked viewers around the world "How Do You Want to Help?". Voters heard the question, and Nickelodeon has heard their answer! Nickelodeon viewers want to help animals, and Nick Helps will help them help! Viewers can get started by grabbing your fan badge on NickHelps.com to help spread the word. Viewers are encouraged to talk to their families and friends about joining in. For one full year, Nickelodeon will connect viewers with projects, ideas, and organizations that will help viewers and your families be champions for good. Users can keep checking back at NickHelps.com for all the ways they can help, and together, we can make a real change. Nick is just getting started!

To kick off the Nick Helps movement, Nickelodeon partnered with Para Los Niños school in Los Angeles, California and Jumpstart to host two in-the-community events that are sure to bring smiles to hundreds of children.

In partnership with Para Los Niños school, Nickelodeon employees and talent headed down to the Los Angeles school to paint a radical Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-inspired mural for los niños!

In partnership with Jumpstart, Nickelodeon hosted a volunteer event for staff in their animation studios in Burbank, California on Monday, March 18th, 2019 to benefit the organization.

“Jumpstart is an instrumental partner on Nickelodeon’s Beyond the Backpack campaign, which addresses kindergarten readiness. We are thrilled that many Nickelodeon employees participated in the event, and stuffed more than 700 supply-filled backpacks for young kids in Jumpstart Los Angeles programs.” — Jean Margaret Smith, Senior Vice President (SVP) of Public Affairs and Administration.

These supply-filled PAW Patrol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles backpacks will provide Jumpstart children in Southern California with the resources they need to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. Thanks to the Beyond the Backpack initiative, Jumpstart are not only able to reach the children they serve; they are also able to provide parents from underserved communities with tips and activities that are critical to building kindergarten readiness in their own homes.

Jumpstart said in a statement that they are truly grateful for this opportunity and that they value Nickelodeon’s ongoing generosity as a proud partner since 2014.

Nick Helps builds on Nickelodeon's previous pro-social campaigns, including The HALO Movement and HALO Awards, The Big Green Help and The Big Help.
