'iCarly': Netflix Success Comes Quick as Nickelodeon Show Climbs Streaming Platform's Charts

Beloved Nickelodeon series iCarly may have only just debuted on Netflix, but it's already proving to be a major success!

Initially running on Nickelodeon from 2007 until 2012, the first two seasons dropped on Netflix's streaming platform on Feb. 8 ahead of a revival of the show on ViacomCBS' Paramount+ later this year, and the series almost immediately shot to the top of the streamer’s Top 10 lists.

By Tuesday, iCarly ranked as No. 3 overall on both the complete Top 10 list and Top 10 TV series of the day, falling just behind the streamer's adaptation of Kristin Hannah's New York Times bestselling novel Firefly Lane and The Sinner. Since then, the series has only climbed in the ranking. On Wednesday morning, iCarly ranked No. 2 overall, with only Firefly Lane ahead of it. Given that Netflix rarely released viewership data, it remains unclear just how many people have tuned in to reminisce. However, given some of the other series it is beating out on the ranking, the numbers are presumably high.

Falling several spots behind iCarly on the overall ranking was Bridgerton, the Regency-era romance drama that took the streamer and social media by storm following its December 2020 debut. Based on Julia Quinn's novels and following Daphne Bridgerton's dating season debut, the series was viewed by 82 million households within the first 28 days of its debut, becoming the streamer's biggest series ever, a title that was previously held by The Witcher, which was viewed by 76 million households within its first 28 days on the platform. Now nearly two months out from its premiere, Bridgerton's viewership seems to be falling, landing it in the No. 5 overall ranking as of Wednesday morning. It fell just behind War Dogs at No. 4 and The Sinner at No. 3. Rounding out the Top 10 Wednesday was Cocomelon, Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio, Go, Dog. Go!, Henry Danger, and All About the Benjamins.

By this rate, iCarly could follow a similar path as Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, the former of which broke Netflix records.

Airing on Nickelodeon from 2007 through 2012 for six seasons and a total of 97 episodes, iCarly followed a group of best friends in Seattle – Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove), Sam (Jenette McCurdy) and Freddie (Nathan Kress) – who turned their life into a web show named after Carly. The beloved series also starred Jerry Trainor as Spencer Shay. During its initial run on Nick, according to Variety, the series broke rating records for Nickelodeon and, along with Victorious, served as the launching pad for crossover spinoff Sam & Cat, which is also available for streaming on Netflix. In December, a revival of iCarly was ordered for ViacomCBS' new streaming service Paramount+ and will feature much of the original cast.

Update (3/11) - From Variety:

TV Ratings: ‘iCarly’ Wins Over New Generation, Lands on Nielsen’s Weekly Streaming Top Ten Ratings

“iCarly,” Nickelodeon’s mid-aughts sitcom starring Miranda Cosgrove, Jennette McCurdy, Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor, found a new home on Netflix on Feb. 8., and with that second life a new generation. Per Nielsen rating insights based on their weekly SVOD Top 10 lists, the family-friendly comedy was a favorite among the ages 2 to 17 crowd during the first week of its debut on the streamer. Across its 60 episodes currently available to watch on the platform, “iCarly” garnered 883 million viewing minutes and landed in third place on the acquired content list and in fifth on the overall programming list.

In addition to the overall programming and acquired content lists, the global marketing research firm will also be pushing out weekly Top 10 lists that take into consideration original programming and movies in an effort to provide an expanded and more inclusive look at most streamed programs for that given week.

Three programs crossed the one billion viewing minutes threshold the week of Feb. 8 to Valentine’s Day, including the newly released Netflix original, “Firefly Lane,” starring Katherine Heigel and Sarah Chalke, accruing 1.288 billion minutes. The show, which chronicles the life of two women throughout thirty years of friendship, was most popular across all viewers 2 and up. The other two programs were Netflix’s “Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel,” which was most popular among adults ages 35 to 54 and drew 1.286 billion minutes of viewing time across only four episodes. “The Sinner,” Netflix’s third victor of the week, resonated most with adults aged 55 and over, and drew in 1.229 billion viewing minutes.

Other notable insights from the streaming content lists include Disney Plus’ “WandaVision,” which showed continued traction on the back of its weekly release strategy hitting a slight increase in both minutes viewed (596 million versus 589 million) across its six episodes and kept its third-place stronghold on the originals list. In addition, the superhero series that fuses the sitcom and action drama genres together landed in tenth place on the overall programs list. Telemundo’s biographical telenovela “Mariposa de Barrio,” the first Spanish-language show to make the charts, dipped after an impressive six weeks on the charts— going from third place to eighth on the acquired content list.

Good2grow Introduces Ready-to-Drink Organic Kids MILK

ATLANTA, Ga. – Soggy carton and car seat spills, be gone – because traditional milk products are getting a serious upgrade with the launch of Organic MILK from good2grow, the #1 kids beverage brand. The new product (SRP: $3.99) is available in single-serve, 8-ounce bottles in Strawberry and Chocolate flavors, complete with a re-closable top to avoid spills on the go.

good2grow MILK is now launching in retail, with initial distribution slated for spring 2021 in select grocery and convenience store retailers, including Hannaford Supermarkets, Casey’s General Stores, Stripes Stores and Circle K Texas.

In addition to providing nutritional benefits – including a good source of vitamins A and D, calcium and 8 grams of protein per serving – the new product also appeals to kids with its two yummy flavors and hundreds of kid-requested character tops, including characters from Nickelodeon favorites such as Blue's Clues & You! and PAW Patrol.

While good2grow has long been at the forefront of the better-for-you kids beverage space, this new product marks the brand’s first foray into the dairy space and the first “ready-to-go” milk for kids ages two to five. According to fall 2020 study from Mintel, milk remains a staple for parents, with 85% of parents with children five and under having purchased dairy milk within the past three months.

“We know that parents are more selective than ever when it comes to their kids’ beverage consumption, in terms of nutritional attributes, convenience and especially variety,” said Gunnar Olson, CEO of good2grow. “Our MILK addresses each of these needs – plus, the two delicious flavors and collectable character tops sweeten the deal with their kids.”

Victoria Justice on Possible Plans for 'Victorious' Revival

Victoria Justice has a lot of possible projects on her horizon. The actor is opening up about potential TV reboots, her future music projects, and gearing up for the release of her latest movie.

Speaking with ET's Katie Krause on Tuesday (March 9), Justice addressed the rumors of a Zoey 101 reboot which have been swirling since Jamie Lynn Spears first floated the idea last year.

"To be honest with you. I don't really know much about it. I was hearing things about a reboot, but no one had ever really talked to me specifically about it. So I don't really know exactly what's going on," she shared. "But I mean, I love that cast, I love that show... but there's nothing official right now."

As for her teen comedy Victorious, the potential for a revival seems exceedingly possible considering Paramount+ recently announced they would be reviving iCarly, which exists in the same fictional universe.

"I'm not saying that there haven't been discussions, but I'm just saying, who knows?" Justice said, coyly. "I mean, at this time, I don't think that there are any concrete plans, [but] you never know what's going to happen in the future."

"I don't want to get anyone's hopes up," Justice added, reiterating, "There's nothing in the works, but I don't know. We all love each other, and it was such a fun time. So who knows?"

However, just because there aren't any set plans doesn't mean she hasn't given some thought to where her character, Tori Vega, might be years later.

"I feel like she would be like she would be like a really successful songwriter and maybe still singing too. But I'd love to see her in kind of like a Julia Michaels vibe," she explained. "I would love that for her."

As fans wait to see what the future holds for a Victorious revival, Justice's latest film Trust is about to come out, and the actor dished on the "sexy, twisty, romantic drama."

"It really just explores themes of temptation and cheating and what is considered cheating," she shared. "I'm curious to hear the conversations after the film of what people think, like of who they think is right in the situation and who they think is wrong."

For Justice, the themes and questions resonate, because "trust really is the most important thing in a relationship."

"If you don't have that, you don't have anything," she said. "So to me, if someone is ever sneaky or is lying to me, that's just not something I put up with."

Meanwhile, on the music side of her recent efforts, Justice opened up about some new tunes she's been working on and what it could mean for a future album.

"I will say that I have some songs that I really love, and I'm very excited about that. I am looking forward to continuing to put out there," she said, adding that she will "eventually" start working on a full-length album, but she's going to focus on "just singles right now."

That being said, Ariana Grande -- Justice's former Victorious co-star -- shared her support for Justice's new music last year, after the release of her single "Treat Myself," and the songstress said that she "would love" to collaborate with her in the future.

"I would so be down for that," she marveled. "It's been so nice having the support of her and the rest of my cast."

"She texted me about the song when it first came out this whole long, amazing sweet text," Justice added. "She's killing it right now. She's been killing it. I'm so happy for her."

Justice's steamy new drama Trust is in select theaters and On Demand Friday.

From Collider:

Victoria Justice Revisits Nickelodeon's 'Victorious' and Making the Leap to Mature Content Like 'Trust'

Justice also looks back on 'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody,' 'Zoey 101' and loads more!

With Victoria Justice’s new movie Trust now available to watch in select theaters and on PVOD, she took the time to join us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to revisit some of the most pivotal moments of her career and break down how they paved the way to her latest project.

Justice stars opposite Matthew Daddario in Trust as Brooke and Owen, a married couple who appear to be living the dream. She’s an art gallery owner, he’s a popular news reporter and they’re thrilled to be building a life together. But then doubt starts to creep in in the form of new temptations. For Brooke, it’s Ansgar (Lucien Laviscount) the new artist she signed, a suave painter with a thing for married women, and for Owen it’s Amy (Katherine McNamara), an aspiring journalist and a big fan of his.

For anyone who’s followed Justice’s work, you’re probably sensing that Trust is mighty different from the content that jumpstarted her career. After being a key part of Zoey 101, Justice went on to lead her own Nickelodeon show, Victorious. As one would expect, at a certain age, Justice set her sights on more mature roles to push her craft further.

Just as the projects she took evolved as she got older, so too did her sources of inspiration. At first? It was all about Barney and seeing kids her own age on television:

“The thing that really first got me started when I was young, I was watching Barney. I loved Barney, I loved that they would sing and there were kids my age on it. And I just remember watching TV and watching Barney and watching kids in TV commercials. It kind of all started with me seeing this on TV and screaming to my mom for her to come in from the other room and I was like, ‘Mom, do you see those kids? Like that kid? I think I could do that! I want to do that! How do I do it?’”

From there it was on to some of the hottest Disney Channel shows of the 2000s and a Barbara Streisand classic:

“I loved Lizzie McGuire so Hilary Duff was a big inspiration for me and Raven-Symoné on That’s So Raven, Amanda Bynes. I loved strong comedic actresses, and I’ve always loved music. My mom, when I would be driving to modeling jobs, we had a VHS player in our car so I could watch movies in the car on my way to these jobs and I remember her introducing me to Funny Girl with Barbara Streisand and me just being blown away and like, ‘I want to be like her. I want to do that! I want to sing. I want to act. And she’s so fabulous and confident.’ And I just loved it.”

Justice essentially went on to do just that with Victorious, but when that show came to an end, she had reached a new point in her career and life in general. She was older and had her eye on material that spoke to her at this age, and that included shows like the HBO hit Girls.

“I loved Girls. I loved Lena Dunham. I was just really wanting to take on some more mature roles. To this day, still I would love to work with Lena Dunham. I think she’s so incredibly talented. I just love her style. I love things that feel real, you know? So yeah, I really admire her and I really admired that show a lot.”

If you’d like to hear more about Justice’s journey to Trust, there’s loads more from where this came from. You can catch our full conversation in the video at the top of this article or using the podcast embed below.

Announced in June 2020, Middlemost Post (working title) is an all new animated series which combines quirky characters with hilarious adventures and unwavering friendship. The series is expected to premiere summer 2021 on Nickelodeon.

Created and co-executive produced by John Trabbic III (SpongeBob SquarePants, storyboard director), the 20-episode 2D-animated series follows a former rain cloud, a brawny mailman and their magical pet walrus as they deliver packages to the unusual inhabitants of Mount Middlemost.

Middlemost Post is produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, with Dave Johnson serving as co-executive producer and story editor, and Chris Battle (Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, The Mighty B!, Duckman) serving as a character designer. Additional casting news and premiere date will be announced in the coming months.

Middlemost Post captures everything we look for in a new series--an imaginative and truly unique world, lovable characters who care deeply about each other and big comedic moments to drive the story,” said Ramsey Naito, Executive Vice President, Nickelodeon Animation. “The series is created by our very own John Trabbic, with writing partner Dave Johnson, and we can’t wait to bring to life the characters and places in this artist-driven series for our global audience.”

In Middlemost Post, Parker J. Cloud, an exuberant raincloud, lives and works in the Middlemost Post Office with Angus, a burly, rule-abiding mailman who cherishes his solitude and values efficiency, and Russell, their magical pet walrus whose stomach is so big that it doubles as a storage room. Together they journey through Mount Middlemost and the six territories of Somewhere to deliver the mail, while meeting some exceptionally quirky and peculiar people along the way. But as this loving and unconventional trio grows closer, they remain blissfully unaware that they have been brought together by one fateful stormy event.

“This show, when [Trabbic] first pitched it to us, just was so unique,” Naito said in a separate statement. “It had all the qualities we look for. It was character driven. It had an ensemble that illustrated a really comedic relationship, with a backdrop that was fun and exciting. [And] it really feels original.”

“It’s a chance for us to just let our imaginations go wild,” Trabbic says.

Adds Johnson: “Parker is just a kid who’s learning life, but he [wears his] emotions on his sleeve, and because he’s a cloud, he’s pliable and can transform.”

Middlemost Post's greenlight comes on the heels of recent announcements for Big Nate, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, and a third season of The Casagrandes. The original series exemplifies Nickelodeon’s commitment to bringing fresh innovative content to kids and families around the world.

Star Trek: Prodigy's Kevin and Dan Hageman Ink Multi-Year Production Deal with CBS Studios

Studio gets exclusive rights to all TV content from the Emmy Award-winning creative duo behind the animated TV series, Star Trek: Prodigy.

Emmy Award-winning animation writers/producers Kevin and Dan Hageman have signed a multi-year overall production agreement with CBS Studios. Under the terms of the new deal, the studio has the exclusive rights to produce all television content created and developed by the duo. Under the significant pact, the Hagemans will continue on Star Trek: Prodigy.

The pair developed and are currently serving as executive producers and showrunners on Star Trek: Prodigy, the animated TV series from CBS Studios for Paramount+ and Nickelodeon that will run later this year.

The Hageman brothers are also currently writing the feature film sequel to their 2019 Guillermo Del Toro horror hit, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and a live-action feature adaptation of the classic arcade game Dragon’s Lair starring Ryan Reynolds for Netflix.

“Dan and Kevin are brilliant creators and master storytellers,” commented CBS Studios president David Stapf. “They have a unique gift for tapping into the human spirit through a lens of compelling characters, insight and humor. They’ve done an amazing job creating Star Trek: Prodigy for a younger audience, and we can’t wait for kids and families to discover and enjoy it. We feel so fortunate that they will make their home at CBS Studios.”

“We’re overjoyed about our opportunity to work closely with David Stapf and his entire team at CBS Studios,” shared the brothers. “Since Alex Kurtzman made our introduction, we have felt nothing but trust and support while collaborating on Star Trek: Prodigy. Not only are we anticipating big things in animation, but the possibilities in the live-action space have us very excited as well.”

Most recently, the Hagemans co-wrote the Golden Globe-nominated film The Croods: A New Age for DreamWorks Animation. They also were co-executive producers and showrunners on the multiple Emmy Award-winning animated series Trollhunters for director Guillermo Del Toro and DreamWorks Animation. They won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program and are now writing and executive producing the franchises’ animated feature film finale, Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans.

The prolific team also co-created the critically acclaimed The LEGO Movie with producer Dan Lin, director/writers Lord & Miller, and Warner Brothers Animation. The film has won numerous awards and spawned movie spinoffs, sequels, TV shows and theme park attractions. Off that success, the brothers worked closely with the Danish toy company to write and executive produce LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu for Cartoon Network. The series airs on Nickelodeon in Greece.

Other theatrical credits for the Hagemans include creating the story for the animated hit film Hotel Transylvania for Adam Sandler and Sony Animation, which has grown into a powerful franchise that includes three sequels and a television series.  Kevin and Dan Hageman are managed by Trevor Engelson at Underground, and are also represented by Adam Kaller at Hansen Jacobson.
