Produced by Nickelodeon Animation, Season Two Sees the Return of Tara Strong as Fan-Favorite Character Dil Pickles
Joining the Voice Cast as Guest Stars Are Yvette Nicole Brown, Wendie Malick, Sarah Niles and Alia Shawkat
March 16, 2023 – Paramount+ today released the official trailer and key art for season two of the original animated series RUGRATS, following the iconic babies – Tommy, Chuckie, Angelica, Susie, Phil and Lil – as they explore the world and beyond from their wildly imaginative point-of-view. The series will premiere the first 13 episodes of the second season on Friday, April 14, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada. The series will also be available to stream on Paramount+ in the U.K., Australia, Latin America, Brazil, South Korea, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria at a later date.
In the second season of RUGRATS, the babies are back and ready to take on the world with their pint-sized perspectives and a diapie full of snacks. New episodes follow Tommy, Chuckie, Angelica, Susie, Phil and Lil as they cross the frozen tundra, discover the treasures of ancient babies and go on the greatest adventure of all: meeting Tommy’s new brother!
Returning to the playpen is Tommy’s beloved little brother, Dil, voiced by Tara Strong (“The Fairly OddParents,” “Teen Titans Go!”) who is reprising her role in this new series. Also joining the series this season are guest stars Yvette Nicole Brown (“Drake & Josh,” “Community”) as Miss Mellie, the friendly and silly tour guide at re-created Old West town Tot Springs; Wendie Malick (“The Owl House”) as Judith, Charlotte’s glamorous yet often condescending mother; Sarah Niles (“Ted Lasso”) as Nanny Pip, a proficient and encouraging robotic nanny who watches Angelica; and Alia Shawkat (“Severance”) as Trish, Betty’s new girlfriend who is eager to make friends with everyone.
The series stars EG Daily (Tommy Pickles), Nancy Cartwright (Chuckie Finster), Cheryl Chase (Angelica Pickles), Cree Summer (Susie Carmichael) and Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil DeVille), all of whom are reprising their iconic roles in this new series.
The original adventurous babies’ voice cast is joined by new voices, including Ashley Rae Spillers and Tommy Dewey (Tommy’s parents, Didi and Stu Pickles); Tony Hale (Chuckie’s father, Chas Finster); Natalie Morales (Phil and Lil’s mother, Betty DeVille); Anna Chlumsky and Timothy Simons (Angelica’s parents, Charlotte and Drew Pickles); Nicole Byer and Omar Miller (Susie’s parents, Lucy and Randy Carmichael); Michael McKean (Grandpa Lou Pickles); Charlet Chung (Kimi); and Grey Delisle (Begley). Also returning as guest stars in season two are Henry Winkler (Boris); Swoosie Kurtz (Minka); Telma Hopkins (Celeste); Raini Rodriguez (Gabi); Keith Carradine (Bob Brine); and Richard Ayoade (Duffy).
Produced by Nickelodeon Animation, the all-new RUGRATS is based on the series created by Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo, and Paul Germain. Kate Boutilier (“Rugrats”) and Casey Leonard (“Breadwinners”) are executive producers and Dave Pressler (“Robot and Monster”) and Rachel Lipman (“Rugrats”) serve as co-executive producers, with Kellie Smith (“The Fairly OddParents”) as line producer on season two. Charlie Adler (“Rugrats”) serves as the voice director. Production is overseen by Mollie Freilich, director of current series animation at Nickelodeon.
The original RUGRATS series launched August 11, 1991, and instantly became a groundbreaking phenomenon, spawning consumer products and three hit theatrical releases, cementing its place in pop culture history through its iconic characters, storytelling and unique visual style. RUGRATS was in production for nine seasons over the course of 13 years. The series earned four Daytime Emmy Awards, six Kids’ Choice Awards and its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

As an emerging Canadian artist and actor, Caledonia-based Ava Ro has made a name for herself both on stage and behind the camera. Her next appearance may be her biggest yet, taking on co-lead duties on a new Nickelodeon show, Erin & Aaron, which is set to premiere Thursday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT.
Ava Ro on the set of Erin & Aaron
The Haldimand Press recently spoke with Ro about the big opportunity, and why she is so excited for audiences to see the show.
“Erin & Aaron is about a blended family and two step siblings coming together through music. Erin definitely has a love for rock and roll, as you will see throughout the show. She has a tough exterior, but a kind heart,” said Ro. “What I most love about playing Erin is that she is a rebel, and she doesn’t care about what people think of her, and of course … I love her guitar! I also love that she writes her own music.”
She described the moment she found out she had the part: “When the creators of the show and Nickelodeon told my parents they needed to do a late night (LA time) Zoom call, I had no idea they were about to change my life. I got on the call, and I saw Jensen Gering (my now co-star).”
After months of auditions, Ro said she cried tears of excitement when she got the news, adding, “To be from a small town in Canada booking a lead role on a major network US show, I just couldn’t believe it. I used to watch all the big Nick shows like Victorious, The Thundermans, School of Rock … and now I get to be in one. I just feel so lucky and grateful.”
Erin & Aaron isn’t Ro’s only current project. In fact, while auditioning for the part, she was in Rome, Italy filming for another show, called Home Sweet Rome, which is airing this March on the Family Channel in Canada.
“I almost didn’t do the audition because I had just flown home on hiatus and was jet lagged. I decided I wanted to do it anyway and my agent Francesca Nicassio got me an extension so I could get some rest,” said Ro. “On December 14 I found out I booked the role of Erin and had to move to LA January 5! To prepare for Erin … well I feel I’ve been preparing for her my whole life. From taking dance at Caledonia Studio of Dance since I was 3, to music and vocal lessons every single week for years, I was ready.”
Erin & Aaron was filmed in the classic multi-camera sitcom style. Ro explained, “Multi-cam sitcom shows are AMAZING and fun to shoot! This is my first multi-cam show and I absolutely love it…. We shoot one episode per week.”
Ava Ro poses with her co-star Jensen Gering on the set of ‘Erin & Aaron’.
“On Monday morning the whole cast, creators, and producers sit together and do the table read. This is when we read the episode all together to see how it flows, what it’s all about, and how the jokes come together,” she explained of the experience of working on such a fast-moving set. “Tuesdays and Wednesdays are spent rehearsing, which includes learning any new music that appears in the episode. The episode is then shot in full on Thursday and Friday.”
“On a typical shoot day, I get to set around 8 a.m. and go straight to hair and makeup. Once I’m finished I put on my wardrobe and we go straight to set,” she continued. “We have a schedule we go by for the day and we usually start with the most difficult and intricate scenes. We block them (practise) once and then we start rolling! We go scene by scene until we wrap for the day!”
On top of the regular rehearsals and shooting, Ro added, “We also have a lot of fun in between. The cast and crew are all so amazing and love to have a good time. On top of all that, I also have to get my schoolwork done! We have our own school room on set and two amazing teachers. We do three hours of school on set every day.”
Ro praised her co-star Gering, who she bonded with hanging out on set and rehearsing their many scenes.
“As soon as I read with him the first time I knew he was Aaron. I could tell Nickelodeon liked us together because during auditions they kept having us read different scenes together,” she noted. “This is his first series and he is blowing us all away with how good he is.… We come together through music in the show and in real life!”

Ro was also impressed by the practicality of the shoot, referring to a scene from the show highlighted in its trailer in which a piano falls down a flight of stairs: “That wasn’t fake. They really pushed a real live piano down the stairs!”
Beyond making people laugh, Ro hopes Erin & Aaron can help spark a love of music and performance in kids who watch it, adding, “Even if it seems hard at first, keep working at it because music can change your whole life and can give you an outlet to express yourself.”
It’s a lesson Ro learned herself as she developed her career.
“I heard a whole lot of ‘no’ before I heard a ‘yes’. But one thing I have learned is that every time I was rejected, I was ‘redirected’ to something better, and I really believe I am where I am meant to be. I want other kids to know this too,” Ro concluded. “It’s hard to not make the team, to not win the game, or to not get picked for the lead in the play. But in the end, it really makes you stronger, and when you do finally get it, you appreciate it that much more.”

The live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series's stunt crew’s Toph fan film resurfaces again online, highlighting Toph's epic Bending.
The stunt team behind the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender's short Toph fan film has resurfaced online, showing how the Earthbending prodigy's epic skills can be presented in a live-action series. Netflix's live-action Avatar series will adapt Nickelodeon's beloved animated series that aired from 2005 to 2008, retelling the story of the journey of the powerful Avatar Aang (Zach Tyler Eisen). Originally voiced by Jessie Flower, Toph Beifong was a young blind girl gifted with extraordinary Earthbending talents who would ultimately become one of Aang's mentors and close friends across his travels.
In a post originally uploaded to his Instagram account in November 2022, Ken Do, who is part of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation's stunt team, shared a short film that he and fellow members of the team shot prior to joining the Netflix show's production.
In the short film, Toph (Diana Tsoy) faces off against four attackers in a battle with Earthbending prowess. Alongside impressive fight choreography and a brilliant representation of how Toph perceives her opponent's movements, the short also captures the Earthbending master's personality, as she declares her brilliance against one of her fallen attackers.
While Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender is unlikely to feature Toph during its first season, the stunt crew's video has captured the excitement of longtime viwers online ahead of their first official glimpses at footage from the show. The short film's choreography not only perfectly replicates the techniques utilized by Toph and other Earthbenders, but the active camera work keeps track of the action and helps in creating an exciting and engaging sequence. As such, though Toph herself isn't part of the live-action series Team Avatar just yet, the movie gives viewers a glimpse at how the stunt team envisioned bringing Bending to life.
By sharing their own vision of live-action bending, the stunt crew has also potentially eased certain existing doubts about how a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender project could handle the series' action when compared to prior attempts. Among other poorly-received elements, M. Night Shyamalan's 2010 feature-film adaptation, The Last Airbender, drew criticism for its handling of bending during the action sequences, with the film often opting for longer, slower-paced sequences. As such, the stunt team's film feels more in line and comparable to the pace seen in Avatar: The Last Airbender's original animated scenes.
Like previous live-action adaptations of animated properties, there is skepticism surrounding Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender on whether it can faithfully adapt its source material. Beyond faithfully representing the narrative, others may also be concerned about whether the show can match the original series' creative, intricate Bending systems. However, the stunt team's epic Toph demonstration may not only reassure viewers about how the series will tackle Bending battles, but allow them to speculate how the team may bring fire, air, and water bending into live-action.
In a recent interview with Insider, Melissa Joan Hart recalled the details of a since-defunct revival of the beloved Nickelodeon series Clarissa Explains It All, in which she played a quirky teenager navigating high school.
"I believe it was that Clarissa is divorced and moving to California with her two kids and living on the beach in California with her aunt," Hart said of the scrapped reboot, which was first reported in 2018. "So I don't know. It wasn't my favorite way in."
Although there isn't currently another revival in the works, Hart would rather revive Clarissa Explains It All than her other beloved series, Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
"Of course whatever I say I'm going to p*ss off half the people," Hart acknowledged, adding that she thinks revisiting Clarissa's life would be "more fun" because the Nickelodeon show's ending was more ambiguous.
"I do feel like Sabrina wrapped up really nicely with her riding off on the motorcycle with Harvey. I think that ending on Sabrina was so iconic that I don't want to go back and try to recreate that and have another good ending," she said, reflecting on the ABC series she starred in from 1996 to 2003.
The actor and director's connection to heart health awareness goes beyond her last name. Her niece and nephew both had open heart surgery at a young age, and she's thankful they're both happy and healthy today.

Part of maintaining her health while working in the entertainment industry involves maintaining her mental wellness, too. Hart said she regularly vents to friends over coffee on days they've dubbed "Women's Wellness Wednesday."
"We're very real and authentic with each other and that gives us that freedom to understand each other better and feel like there's a safe place and kind of vent some of the things going on in our lives," she said, admitting that she usually ropes them into a workout before the chat.
When she's not in front of the camera, Hart directs and produces projects through her and her mother Paula's company, Hartbreak Films.
She encourages women trying to take steps forward in their industries to remember that "everyone has impostor syndrome" instead of thinking "it's a male-dominated world and I don't belong here."
"If you prepare properly and someone feels like you deserve that job then you deserve to be there and you just focus on doing the best job you can," she said.
Although the Clarissa series ended in 1994, series creator Mitchell Kriegman brought the characters back for a book titled Things I Can't Explain: A Clarissa Novel in 2015, which see's Clarissa in a mid-twenties crisis which has left her with a whole set of things she can't explain: unemployment, an ex-boyfriend turned stalker, her parents' divorce, a micro relationship with the cute coffee guy, and java addiction. The audio book version of the novel is actually read by Hart's sister, Emily!
As for where Hart thinks Clarissa, her brother Ferguson (Jason Zimbler) and friend Sam (Sean O’Neal) ended up, the actor recently revealed: “I think she’d be loving her life in New York City, being a journalist and she’d probably have some kids. I think she’d be closer to her brother than we’d imagine.” And as for Sam? “Maybe Sam’s gay, we have no idea.”
