Travel Agent Central is reporting that Karisma Hotels & Resorts and Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) have unfortunately had to delay the opening of Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya in Mexico.

Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles attend Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya's groundbreaking ceremony in May 2016.

Announced in May 2016, Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya was scheduled to open on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, adjacent to Karisma's Generations resort, in December 2017, however, a representative from Karisma has told Travel Agent Central that the Nickelodeon resort currently doesn't have an official opening date, and that it will not open any time this year. Although the resorts official opening date has yet to be announced, TravelPulse reports that the resort will open in 2019.

Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya will be the second property in the luxurious collection of five-star experiential resorts by Karisma and VIMN, following the successful opening of Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana in summer 2016. Karisma and VIMN broke ground on the Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya resort in May 2016.

A third Nickelodeon hotel is planned for Huatulco, Mexico, along with El Dorado and Generations resorts. Groundbreaking is slated for 2019, with openings set for 2020.

Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya will deliver non-stop family entertainment and Karisma’s renowned Gourmet Inclusive® Experience.

The new property – featuring 288 spacious swim-up and infinity suites, each with its own pool on a private terrace or balcony – will be located on a secluded white-sand beach facing Mexico’s stunning Caribbean Sea. Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya will reimagine the art of hospitality to deliver delightful twists including surprise Slimings and unexpected visits from your favorite Nickelodeon characters. The property will also feature an array of innovative food and beverage options at themed restaurants that reflect the brand with unexpected colors, imaginative food samples, and Slime Smoothies. A majority of the resort’s organic produce will be sourced from Karisma’s 75,000-square-foot Greenhouse located next door.

Additionally, Nickelodeon Spa-ahh will beckon with relaxation. Guests will have the opportunity to experience signature treatments within individual suites, couple’s suite, a luxurious bridal suite, or “al fresco” outdoor treatment areas for those craving a little sand with their spa.

For guests celebrating a special occasion, Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya will offer fully themed party options inclusive of character meet & greets, game play, specialty food & beverage and more. Karisma is renowned for its exquisite Gourmet Inclusive® Wedding Events, and the Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya will be no exception. Couples will be presented with an array of romantic options for their wedding events, including a Beachfront gazebo and signature Sky Wedding location featuring stunning 360-degree views from the private rooftop terrace. And if a couple’s wedding day just won’t be complete without someone getting Slimed, the resort is happy to hook them up!

Nickelodeon and Paramount to Release 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' Movie on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019 (Updated 12/12)

Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, Paramount Pictures has set a Halloween season release date of Friday 11th October 2019 for Paramount Players's movie adaptation of the '90s Nickelodeon horror anthology series Are You Afraid of the Dark?!

The project was unveiled last month with It writer Gary Dauberman hired to write the script. Matt Kaplan is producing along with Dauberman. Paramount is producing the film conjunction with Nickelodeon Movies.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? was created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel and ran as an anthology series on Nickelodeon between 1992 and 1996. It was set around a group of teenagers who called themselves the Midnight Society and would meet weekly at a secret location in the woods to tell a scary story around a campfire. Subjects ranged from abandoned houses and vampires to scary clowns and witches. The show was revived in 1999 for two more seasons with new writers and showrunners. Tia and Tamera Mowry, Will Friedle, Neve Campbell, Hayden Christensen, Jay Baruchel, Tatyana Ali, Melissa Joan Hart, Jewel Staite, and two-time Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling are just a few of the household names that lent their acting skills to the anthology.

Each episode was introduced with the storyteller saying “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society” and then announce the title of that segment. MacHale said that the line was a tribute to the series The Twilight Zone, in which creator Rod Serling would introduce the episode by saying, “submitted for your approval.”

"The show is about the shared experience of telling stories — especially scary ones. We're going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope the Midnight Society approves," Dauberman told The Hollywood Reporter last month.

Paramount Players is a new division at Paramount Pictures that is led by Awesomeness founder Brian Robbins and focuses on contemporary talent and properties for young audiences while drawing upon the vast resources of the Viacom brands. Nickelodeon is one of those Viacom brands and is already developing a live-action Dora the Explorer movie, based on Nickelodeon's hit animated preschool series, through Paramount Players with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes producing.

Update:

Matt Kaplan is leaving Awesomeness after two years helming its film division to establish his own production company, ACE Entertainment, that will focus on making films, television series and digital content for youth audiences, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Through this new shingle, Kaplan has signed a first-look deal for film with Paramount Players, the six-month-old production division run by Brian Robbins. The deal reunites Kaplan with Robbins, the founder and CEO of Awesomeness who departed the company in February.

Kaplan tells THR that ACE partnered with Paramount Players in part because of the companies' shared focus. "I had an incredible run with Brian at Awesomeness and I wanted to continue to make films specifically for a demo that's targeted to millennial and Gen Z as Brian and I had been doing," he says, adding that the goal is to make between six and eight films each year.

ACE Entertainment has set up offices on the Paramount lot and one of Kaplan's first projects with the studio will be producing the previously announced Are You Afraid of the Dark movie reboot.

"Matt is a talented and creative executive and producer," Robbins said in a statement. "He and I enjoyed a successful partnership at Awesomeness making modestly budgeted films for targeted audiences. I'm excited to continue our relationship here at Paramount Players."

An End Of An Era: Nickelodeon On Sunset Is Being Demolished

It's the end of an era, guys. Nickelodeon on Sunset - aka the building on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California that housed a TON of beloved Nickelodeon live-actions shows — is being obliterated by a bulldozer.

To give you an idea just how precious this piece of real estate was to Nick Kids, the soundstage served as Nickelodeon's West Coast hub for live action shows after production moved from Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios, with various episodes of iCarly, Drake & Josh, All That, Kenan & Kel, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, The Amanda Show, Victorious, and more were filmed there. Soon, a pivotal piece of nostalgia will be nothing but dust, presumably becoming a new building that won't house insanely funny and memorable tween and teen shows.

Victoria Justice, star of Victorious, recently walked past her old stomping ground and filmed the sadness, tweeting the video on Monday (December 11). During the video, Victoria also gives fans a outdoor tour of the building and a few behind-the-scenes facts years after the show wrapped up.

“Here’s something really weird and sad and crazy,” she says in the video. “This is where we used to film Victorious, right here at Nick on Sunset. And it is now being demolished and torn down, and it’s crazy.”

Whilst looking through a gated portion of the building, she reminisced about filming exterior lunch scenes at the studio, sharing that though it was "sad" to see so many homeless people outside their set, the people outside would often shout things and interrupt their takes and ruining the shot, resulting in the cast having to redo scenes. "Anywho, just wanted to say, 'Rest in peace, Nick on Sunset.' Thanks for all the good times and the memories, and I'll never forget you."

Victoria finishes the video by taking a final twirled peek at the scene around her and then shares her wishes for the building to become something "beautiful." SOB.

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of Nickelodeon on Sunset here.

Nickelodeon on Sunset (also called Nick on Sunset), formerly known as Earl Carroll Theatre, was a stage facility located at 6230 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California which has housed the West Coast production of live-action original series produced for the Nickelodeon cable channel since 1997, starting with the production of the third season of All That.

Shows taped at Nickelodeon on Sunset:

- Zoey 101 – table reads, only some minor episodes
- All That (seasons 3-10)
- Kenan & Kel (seasons 3 and 4)
- The Amanda Show (seasons 2-3)
- SNICKhouse
- The Nick Cannon Show (Various soundstage production)
- Taina (season 2 only)
- Drake & Josh (seasons 1, 2, 4)
- Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide (season 1 only)
- Unfabulous
- iCarly (season 1 to 5) – Moved to Sunset Bronson for season 6 & 7
- Dance on Sunset
- Blue's Room
- True Jackson, VP (season 1 only)
- The Fresh Beat Band – Various episodes for Nick Jr.
- Victorious
- Alf's Hit Talk Show – For Nick's sister network TV Land
- Sam & Cat
- Bella and the Bulldogs
- The Conspiracy Zone (the series was produced for Nickelodeon's sister channel TNN, now Spike)

Specials produced at Nickelodeon on Sunset:

From the studios prime opening in 1997, several shows have used Nickelodeon on Sunset to film special events, shows which have used the soundstage in such ways include:

- All That LIVE – The 100th episode of All That was presented live from the studios on the evening of March 6, 1999 and was the first Nickelodeon show of its kind broadcast live from Hollywood, with some elements taped before the live show. The exterior of the building was sparingly used to avert confusion with the Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, Florida.
- R U All That? Competition
- All That 10th Anniversary Reunion Special

Nick on Sunset originally opened on December 26, 1938 as the West Coast location of the Earl Carroll Theatre. The supper club-theatre offered shows on a massive stage containing a 60-foot (18 m)-wide double revolving turntable, staircase and swings that could be lowered from the ceiling. The building's facade was adorned by a 20-foot (6.1 m)-high neon head portrait of entertainer Beryl Wallace. The sign had been long gone by the 1960s, but a recreation made from photographs of the sign is now on display at Universal CityWalk, as part of a collection from the Museum of Neon Art.

After Carroll and Wallace died in the crash of United Airlines Flight 624 in 1948, the theater was sold. In 1953, it became the Moulin Rouge nightclub, then later the Hullabaloo Rock and Roll club, and then the Aquarius Theatre in the late 1960s. The Pick-Vanoff Company, who owned Sunset Gower Studios, purchased the property in 1983, converting it into a television theater where Star Search, the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon and The Chevy Chase Show were once broadcast.

In the mid-1990s, Nickelodeon decided to move production of some live-action series' to the West Coast from Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios, after scouting soundstages for a year, the network's headlining mover All That spent a year at Paramount Pictures before Nickelodeon obtained a lease for the 6238 Sunset Blvd facility, acquiring the soundstage and rebranding it "Nickelodeon on Sunset" by 1997. Due to limited studio space and the need to control plot spoilage for several programs, only a few series' are taped at Nickelodeon on Sunset at a time. As a result, other live-action series' produced for the network are filmed in other stage facilities with closed set policies throughout the Hollywood area.

Since September 2017, no new Nick programs have been filmed there and all of the Nickelodeon signage has since been removed. Though rumors from current and former pages at CBS Television City talk about either HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher or The Late Late Show with James Corden moving to the studio which will revert its name back to Earl Carroll Theatre sometime in 2018.

Earlier this year, Nickelodeon opened Nickelodeon Studios, a over 200,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art, sustainable complex home to more than 700 Nickelodeon employees and over 20 live-action and animated productions, in Burbank, California.

Iain Glen To Guest Star In 'Nella The Princess Knight' Christmas Special, Premiering Friday 15th December 2017 On Nick Jr. UK

Original Nickelodeon UK & Ireland Press Release:

IAIN GLEN TO GUEST STAR IN NELLA THE PRINCESS KNIGHT CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

The Game of Thrones star will play Santa in the festive special of Nick Jr.’s animated series

From Westeros’ Dragonstone to Castlehaven, Iain Glen is heading to a new royal kingdom, the home of Nella the Princess Knight, as he lends his voice to play Santa in the Christmas special of Nick Jr.’s popular pre-school animated series. Titled The Knight Before Christmas, the episode will premiere this Friday 15th December at 4.30pm only on Nick Jr.

Nella the Princess Knight follows the adventures of 8 year old heroine Nella, who is far from the average Princess… she embarks on quests, goes on voyages and transforms into a Princess Knight to save her kingdom. She enjoys dancing at extravagant balls just as much as meeting fire-breathing dragons (a trait she shares with Iain’s much loved Game of Thrones character).

In The Knight Before Christmas, Santa visits Castlehaven on Christmas Eve, but when naughty snow dragons take his sack of presents, it’s up to Nella and her friends to go on a quest to save the day before morning.

Iain Glen said “My four year old is obsessed with Nella the Princess Knight! I do think that this is a particularly lovely show and I’ve really enjoyed being a part of it. I’m not planning on telling my daughter, so I’ll see if she realises that it’s me playing Santa when we sit down to watch it in December.”

Robert Vargas (Zack and Quack) serves as an executive producer on Nella the Princess Knight and the series is created by Christine Ricci (Blaze and the Monster Machines, Dora the Explorer). It is the newest show to join Nick Jr.’s top-ranked pre-school properties, airing alongside Blaze and the Monster Machines, Digby Dragon, PAW Patrol and Shimmer and Shine.

An extensive consumer products line for Nella the Princess Knight will roll out in January 2018 with master toy partner Vivid across key UK retailers.

Online at nickjr.co.uk/nella, parents and children can meet the characters, discover activities, watch clips and sing along to the theme tune. The official app ‘Nella the Princess Knight: Kingdom Adventures’ can be downloaded from the iTunes store and Google Play. The game leans on princess-and-knight heroine Nella to inspire girl empowerment, self-confidence, resilience and compassion among players.

This December Nick Jr. will be counting down to Christmas with festive giveaways across the channel as well as airing festive episodes of Blaze and the Monster Machines, PAW Patrol and Peppa Pig throughout the month.

We’re gonna have snow much fun
There were snowflakes falling all night long on the mountainside
Better get your sleds and snowboards ready to swish in style
Gonna style with Sunny, chill with Penny, and race with Blaze
Even knights and dragons know the call of the holidays

Meet me in the snow, the snow, cause it’s snow much fun, snow much fun, let’s go
To the snow, cause it’s snow much fun, snow much fun, let’s go!

We’re gonna fire it up with a pig and a pup
We’re gonna ski every run
We’re gonna play until the sun goes down
And we follow the lights to the center of town
Now everybody gather round
Snow much funnnn!

'That's What Christmas is All About' | The Loud House Christmas Song | Nickelodeon Animation

Get into the holiday spirit and sing along with the Loud family & friends!

Song from the The Loud House holiday special "11 Louds a Leapin'".

"That's What Christmas is All About" lyrics:

I used to think that Christmas was
About the wish list filled with stuff
I never really needed, anyway

But as long as we're together, it's a holiday

It's not what you get, it's what you give
We've got the spirit, clear and loud

Ditch the list, hug who you're with
'Cause that's what Christmas is all about!

It's what you give, not what you get
We've got the hard part figured out

This year will be the best one yet
'Cause that's what Christmas is all about!

Merry Christmas from the Louds!

HO!!!

Nickelodeon Italy To Premiere 'Tiny Christmas' On Sunday 24th December 2017 (Added Trailer)

Nickelodeon Italy (Italia) will premiere Tiny Christmas, a brand-new Nickelodeon Original Movie which puts a tiny spin on the year’s biggest holiday, on Sunday 24th December 2017 at 14:00!

Mini Natale | Il trailer con Lizzy Greene e Riele Downs | Nickelodeon Italia
Il film Mini Natale con Lizzy Greene e Riele Downs รจ il 24 dicembre alle 14 su Nickelodeon (SKY 605)

In Nickelodeon's brand-new holiday TV movie Tiny Christmas, locally titled Mini Natale, it's Christmas Eve, and a clumsy elf accidentally shrinks down two cousins into miniature sizes! The kids are then scooped up into Santa's sack and dropped off across the street at their neighbor's house. In order to make it home for Christmas (just one house away!), the tiny kids must comically work together to navigate holiday hazards - including a giant cat - so that they can set themselves right and make Christmas magic happen! But, will the tiny kids get home on time?

Tiny Christmas stars Riele Downs from Henry Danger and Lizzy Greene from Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. Matty Finochio will also star in the movie as Chill the Elf.

Based on a script written by screenwriting team Brian Sawyer & Gregg Rossen, Tiny Christmas was filmed in Canada, including in Langley in British Columbia, earlier this year, and is produced by Two 4 The Money Media. The movie is directed by Jon R. Rosenbaum, and executive produced by Michael McGahey (Vice President, Series at MarVista Entertainment). Nickelodeon acquired the script from Brian & Gregg in September 2015. Jordan Cassidy serves as the on-set Dresser for the film, and TINK serves as production designer on the Nickelodeon MOW.

Tiny Christmas made its world debut on Nickelodeon USA on Saturday 2nd December 2017, and is now rolling out on Nickelodeon channels and programming blocks globally.

Nickelodeon's 'Glitch Techs' To Star A Multiethnic Cast

Industry Panel Suggests Ways to Better Represent Muslims in Film and TV

An industry panel discussed ways to avoid Muslim stereotypes in film and TV while also offering suggestions to ensure more authentic representations of Islam and Muslims in Hollywood at a recent event presented by the Writers Guild of America Foundation and the Hollywood Bureau of the Muslim Public Affairs Council.

The MPAC's Hollywood Bureau consults with production companies on authentic portrayals of Muslims and connects companies with Muslim creatives in writers rooms to tell their own stories to ensure that the stories told on the screen are accurate.

The panel discussion, held Monday night at the WGAF/WGA headquarters in Los Angeles, included MPAC president Salam Al-Marayati, actor-writer Dan Milano (Glitch Techs, Robot Chicken, Greg the Bunny), creator/executive producer/writer Chris Keyser (Party of Five, The Last Tycoon, Tyrant), writer Sohrab Noshirvani (Dry River Road, Junkyard Dogs), producer Cherien Dabis (Empire, Quantico), and writer Y. Shireen Razack (Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, Haven). Writer/producer Valerie C. Woods (Any Day Now, Soul Food) moderated the panel.

"It's no secret that the industry has a knack for vilifying marginalized communities," said Sue Obeidi, director of the MPAC's Hollywood Bureau told The Hollywood Reporter. "However, we did notice that before Trump got into the White House, before he was even elected, representatives of the entertainment industry, television executives and creatives, reached out to us about creating Muslim characters, not your traditional 'bad-guy Arab villain Muslim,' but more authentic narratives.”

The Hollywood Bureau is currently consulting for Nickelodeon’s Glitch Techs, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Hulu’s The Looming Tower, NatGeo’s The State, and Paramount/Amazon’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and Disney’s upcoming live-action Aladdin movie.

The MPAC’s ultimate goal is to get more Muslim creatives involved in the corporate structure.

“I want to make sure that to us [MPAC's Hollywood Bureau], ultimate success is not having a Muslim TV network, but to have Muslims at the helm of a major network, studio and production company," said Obeidi. "In order to really make a difference in the narrative, we cannot afford to be burning daylight by preaching to the choir. Muslims, like all other members of vulnerable communities, need to be in decision-making roles at major mainstream TV networks, studios and production companies, as well as showrunners and executive producers.”

Obeidi is hopeful that there will be a Muslim lead on a television drama and sitcom within the next few years.

Nickelodeon's new animated series Glitch Techs will feature a multiethnic cast, including a Muslim-American female character who will wear a hijab on the show. Glitch Techs writer David Anaxagoras originally created the character for another program, Amazon's Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street, but viewers never saw the character because of the show's cancellation.

Nick Picks Up New Gaming-Themed Animated Series, "Glitch Techs" (Photo: Nickelodeon)

When developing Glitch Techs, the co-creators recognized the need to incorporate characters reflective of the viewing audience, whether they are background characters or main characters, so “someone somewhere [can look] for themselves on television," said Milano, who co-created the show with Eric Robles. The creators consulted with the MPAC to figure out how to accurately display an authenticity, even down to little behaviors.

“Even though we’re an animated show and they are trying to catch creatures, we want small things. We want to know that a stray hair came out of that hijab, and she had to tuck it behind her ear because that’s a human moment, that’s a practical moment, from everyday life,” said Milano.

Added Al-Marayati: “Five years ago and 10 years ago, we never thought we’d actually have an audience to talk to, but now, I think we should thank Donald Trump because we’re finally having a conversation, and it’s unfortunate that it had to take that to have that conversation, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers, so we welcome this opportunity.”
