Nickelodeon USA Hosts Q&A With Butch Hartman

Last night, to celebrate Nickelodeon USA premiering brand-new episodes from the all-new tenth season of "Fairly OddParents" every Friday at 7:30pm (ET/PT), and his upcoming brand-new animated series, "Bunsen is a Beast", Nick USA hosted a special Facebook Q&A with creator Butch Hartman!

As part of his Q&A, Butch shared some fantastic information about his shows, including the development and creative processes of "The Fairly OddParents", that his upcoming new Nicktoon "Bunsen is a Beast", due to premiere on Nickelodeon in 2017, will feature supernatural monsters, and the very exciting news that he and Nickelodeon are thinking about reviving "Danny Phantom"!

Check out the transcript from Butch's live Facebook chat below!:

What inspires you?

Butch Hartman: Comedy, comic books, Walt Disney, and my family inspire me

Will Crocker ever catch a fairly?

BH: You should watch the new season to find out! It airs Friday nights at 7:30pm/6:30c

What's ur favorite Disney movie?

BH: I really like Lady & The Tramp. I'd say that's probably my favorite

What's Vicky's last name?

BH: We haven't given her one yet. Got any ideas?

Where was poof and Sparky during The big Fairy Share Scare episode Friday?

BH: We only have so much room to include so many characters in every episode. With the intro of Chloe we had to focus the story on her. But don't worry, Poof and Sparky are still part of the family!

Where did the idea of Chloe Carmichael come from?

BH: Chloe came from wanting to add a new lead character on the show who didn't have magic and who would be a good counterpart to Timmy

Will any older characters appear in the new season of Fairly odd parents ?
Like: Tootie, Trixie, Chester,AJ, anticosmo antiwanda, Elmer or Sanjay?

BH: Absolutely! It's our goal to include as many fun characters as we can any time we write anything. However, it's not always possible to put every character in every episode. We also try to use the characters that are the funniest for that story.

Also have you considered branching out and develop adult content for other networks like Netflix, Adult Swim etc.

BH: Yes, but I'm having too much fun writing these!

What was the most favorite series that you created? Also, if you had to bring back a series which one would it be?

BH: Honestly, I love all the series I created. Each one is a different part of me. Hard to choose a favorite. Since Fairly OddParents is still making new episodes I'd love to bring back Danny Phantom and TUFF Puppy since they were so much fun to work on. I would definitely include cool new things this time around!

What's the next series coming? And when will it be?

BH: Great question! My new series is called Bunsen is a Beast! and it should premiere sometime next year. Can't for you to watch it!

Fairies and ghosts. Any other type of supernatural element you want to touch?

BH: Trolls? With Bunsen we're exploring other supernatural monsters

What was it like when you first saw other people drawing in your style? Weird? Cool?

BH: It was pretty cool to know that I was able to create something and people liked it enough to draw it again! Basically: tremendous feeling

Whose idea was Chloe Carmichael? Was she the result of a network request of some sort?

BH: It was kinda a combination of my idea and Nickelodeon's suggestion to try something new. In the end we were both very happy with the result. What did you think? She'll be back this Friday night at 7:30pm!

When is a new episode of the fairly odd parents coming on!!!!!!

BH: This Friday night at 7:30pm/6:30c! It's called Whittle Me This. It's about Chloe accidentally becoming Catman's new sidekick and Timmy gets to watch as things spiral out of control. Mr Crocker makes a guest appearance as... The Falcon!

Nothing to ask, just to tell Butch: you're my hero [Emoticon]

BH: Awww thanks so much!

what got you into being a creator of this cartoon? how many times did you get turned away and how many ideas did you have before this one of fairly odd parents?

BH: I created this cartoon basically because I needed a job. I got turned away several times. And I had several other ideas before this that took me much longer to develop. I was sure one of those would go before Fairly OddParents, but it didn't work out that way

Are Wanda and cosmo ever gonna have another baby

BH: Uhhhh, not right now. [smile emoticon]

Before coming to Nickelodeon, what was it like working at Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network?

BH: It was an interesting time. Hanna-Barbera was just beginning to end as a studio while Cartoon Network was just being formed and starting out as a studio. There were a lot of people coming and going and a lot of projects starting at that time (ie Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, etc) I worked on Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, and Dexter's Lab. I also got to work with cool people like Seth MacFarlane. He and I even developed a couple of shows while I was there. Fun times!

How did you come up with the rules in Da Rules book? Was there any scrapped rule that never made it into the Fairly Odd Parents?

BH: I came up with Da Rules because having super powerful fairies was actually kinda difficult to write stories for. I had to give them some limitations like Superman's kryptonite. We come up with Da Rules as we need them. Anything that makes the story more challenging for our characters.

What kind of person do you have to be when you are the creator of a cartoon show. Not like, how to get there, but after that when you have a show. What does it take?

BH: It takes extremely hard work, a lot of patience, and the desire to keep doing it! You really have to love what you do because you may be doing it every day of your life. It's also crucial to surround yourself with an amazing creative team to make sure you all get to the finish line. You can't do it all by yourself!

What software do you primarily use for animating at the studio?

BH: Depending on the part of the animation process we are involved in, we use things like Toon Boom, Flash, and Photoshop. We started out using good ole pencil and paper. We've come a long way! Although those still work best when there's a power outage [smile emoticon]

What are timmy's parents first names?

BH: We'll never know [wink emoticon]

Will there ever be a crossover with fairly odd parents and danny phantom?

BH: Interesting thought. Let me think about that

How about a Next Generation of Danny Phantom? [emoticon]

BH: I think you may have something there [wink emoticon] If we were to do something, we'd definitely have to update it for today's audience. But don't worry, I'd make sure Danny would still keep the same spirit you know and love! Promise [smile emoticon]

Have you ever thought of bringing back Danny phantom?

BH: Yes, we're thinking about it!

BH: Big thanks to everybody who wrote questions today. Sorry we couldn't get to all of them but I SO appreciate your kind words! Hope you love the new season of The Fairly OddParents as much as I do new episodes premiere Friday nights at 7:30pm/6:30c. Don't forget to check me out on Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, and Tumblr. Thanks!

"The SpongeBob Musical" Announces Audition Dates For Roles Of Patrick Star And Mr. Krabs

"Who lives in a Pineapple under the sea?" It could be you! Playbill is reporting that Nickelodeon's upcoming "SpongeBob Squarepants" musical has set audition dates in New York and Florida for the roles of Patrick and Mr. Krabs!

According to a notification on the Actors Equity Associated website, auditions will be held on Friday 29th January 2016 in Orlando, FL, and at a date TBA in late January/early February 2016 in New York City.

Auditions for the chorus of The SpongeBob Musical were held Sept. 15, 2015.

For those unfamiliar with Nickelodeon's hit animated series, Mr. Krabs is SpongeBob's cheapskate boss at the Krusty Krab restaurant. Patrick is SpongeBob's best friend and next door neighbor, a not-excessively-bright Starfish who lives under a rock.

Rehearsals will begin in New York City on Monday 11th April 2016, with out-of-town performances between Tuesday 31st May - Sunday 3rd July 2016. Broadway previews and opening dates have yet to be announced.

Casting is being managed by Telsey + Company. Here are the official role breakdowns:

PATRICK: Male, early 20's- early 30's. ANY ETHNICITY. Well-intentioned but lacking common sense or skills. Kind and somewhat clueless. A big softie. MUST be very large in stature i.e. tall, round shaped, hefty. Possibly bald or willing to shave head if desired. Any actors auditioning for this role should sing a pop or R&B song that shows off your vocal range. Must have a very strong bari-tenor sound with pop/rock sensibility and excellent comedic timing. PRINCIPAL.

MR. KRABS: Male 40's - 50's. ANY ETHNICITY. Lives his life as a penny-saving, money-grabbing restaurateur. Obsessed and volatile in relationship to his money; tender but misguided in relationship with his Whale daughter. Seeking performer a little more physically round, stocky. A short and stout frame. Any actors auditioning for this role should sing an up-tempo contemporary song that shows off your vocal range but also has a gruffness à la Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, or Gogol Bordello; the songs should be jangly and jaunty, something fun to wail on. Must be a strong Baritenor with excellent comedic timing. PRINCIPAL.

Applicants should apply for an appointment at spongebobbroadway@gmail.com.

Good luck to everyone who auditions for the parts!

Based on Nickelodeon's hit original animated series (Nicktoon) "SpongeBob SquarePants", "The SpongeBob Musical" stage musical will make its world premiere stage debut in 2016 at Broadway in Chicago's Oriental Theatre! The production will run performances as a limited engagement from Tuesday 7th June to Sunday 3rd July 2016, with a planned Broadway opening in the 2016-2017 season.

Directed and co-conceived by Steppenwolf veteran Tina Landau ("Bells Are Ringing", "Superior Donuts") with a book by Kyle Jarrow, music supervision by Tony-winning composer Tom Kitt ("Next to Normal", "If/Then"), choreography by Christopher Gattelli ("Hail, Caesar!") and music direction by Julie McBride, the "one of a kind musical event" will feature music and lyrics by "multiple artists", including original songs by prominent musicians, including Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Jonathon Coulton, Dirty Projectors, The Flaming Lips, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T's, They Might Be Giants and T.I, with a additional song contributed by David Bowie and additional lyrics by Coulton.

The design team includes scenic and costume design by David Zinn ("Fun Home", "The Flick"), lighting design by Kevin Adams ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch"), projection design by Peter Nigrini ("The Heidi Chronicles") and sound design by Walter Trarbach ("Doctor Zhivago"). It is produced by Nickelodeon.

Nickelodeon describes "The SpongeBob Musical" as: "The end is near. Only one sponge can save the day. But he's going to need help from some of the greatest songwriters in rock and pop music history. The SpongeBob Musical unleashes anarchic absurdity under the sea... and on Broadway. A rousing tale of a simple sea sponge who faces the unfathomable. It's a celebration of unbridled hope, unexpected heroes, and pure theatrical invention."

Nickelodeon revealed the show's opening number, "Bikini Bottom Day", at Nickelodeon's Upfront presentation in February 2015.

"We decided early on that we would only bring SpongeBob to Broadway if we could find someone with a wholly unique take on these beloved characters. When we met Tina, we immediately understood that her vision would not only live up to the expectations of both fans and new audiences, but also to the high-level of artistry and professionalism that are the hallmarks of Broadway. The innovation she is bringing to the staging is matched with an equally fun and surprising set of original songs we've culled from a dream team of SpongeBob fans who happen to be top-flight musical artists, like David Bowie, John Legend, Cyndi Lauper Lady Antebellum and T.I.," stated Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon's President of Content Development and Production.

"The SpongeBob Musical" will be presented as part of the Broadway In Chicago subscription series, with tickets going on sale in October 2015. Group tickets for 10 or more are now on sale by calling Broadway In Chicago Group Sales at (312) 977-1710. Individual tickets for "The SpongeBob Musical" will go on sale at a later date TBA.
