Nickelodeon and Audible to Launch 'Are You Afraid of the Dark? The Official Podcast' in September 2023

Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, Amazon’s audio service Audible has teamed up with Nickelodeon for the first time to launch the new Are You Afraid of the Dark? The Official Podcast. Due out in September, the podcast will tell a series of scary stories to introduce the brand to a new generation of fans.

The six x 15- to 20-minute Audible Original launches September 28 exclusively on the subscription-based platform. Nickelodeon and Paramount Audio are producing the podcast, which tells a series of different scary stories, including one about an evil toy and another about an abandoned factory that is home to an eerie urban legend. It targets older kids and families.

The series will follow a new generation of Midnight Society members, who have picked up the torch (or the match, if you will) from the original cast. But while we may not be regaled by the likes of Gary, Kiki, Tucker, and Betty Ann, the new podcast will offer up all the tales of haunted houses, graveyards, monsters, and science experiments gone awry you’d expect from Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

The limited series will offer six episodes of spine-tingling tales of terror: The Tale of the Last Hide and Seek; The Tale of the Haunted Holiday; The Tale of the Too Cool Curse (a two-parter!); The Tale of the Doomed Toyheads; and The Tale of the Ghastly Gourmet.

Performers:

Jeremy Ray Taylor is an American actor, producer, director, and podcaster who found his passion for acting at the age of eight. He is best known for his lead roles as Ben in the hit film It and Sonny in Goosebumps 2: Slappy’s Revenge. His most recent projects include Big Sky and Senior Year.
Jeremy is from Bluff City, TN. Born to parents Michael and Tracy Taylor and the youngest of the family, Jeremy grew up in East Tennessee, where he learned a strong work ethic on the family farm.
Jeremy has the unique ability to successfully transition from drama to comedy, as seen in his movie Senior Year.

He loves stretching himself and pushing his acting skills to the next level with every opportunity that comes his way.

Mason Versaw is a performer from Ashtabula, Ohio. He can currently be seen in a series regular role opposite Lana Condor in the Netflix miniseries Boo, Bitch as well as in a supporting lead role in the feature film Sex Appeal (Hulu/American High). Mason also had a heavily recurring guest role on the Gossip Girl reboot (The CW). Previously, he appeared in a large co-star guest role on Blue Bloods (CBS) and had a supporting role in Lin-Manuel Miranda's tick, tick... BOOM!, playing a young Jonathan Larson. Commercially, he can be seen in major spots for Instagram and Apple. He trained at the Lee Strasberg Institute and is also an incredible singer. In addition to acting, Mason is an all-star basketball player.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? The Official Podcast

Audible has been tuning into more kids content lately, signing partnerships this year with major kids companies including Hasbro (to develop the first-ever Peppa Pig podcast), KIDZ BOP and Moonbug Entertainment. The service, which boasts more than 800,000 titles, is adding another big name in kids TV to its lineup of younger-skewing content with this Nickelodeon deal. 

Are You Afraid of the Dark? started off in the ’90s as a live-action TV series that Nickelodeon revived in 2019 with a miniseries that ran for three seasons. Both spooky shows center around a group of teens who get together to tell each other scary stories. The series is also being adapted into a range of books and graphic novels.

“We always thought the Are You Afraid of the Dark? universe would be perfectly suited to the audio medium, and dreamed of how an AYAOTD audio thriller could fuel the fire of kids’ imaginations in the presence of ghost stories,” says Lynn Kestin-Sessler, senior creative director of Nickelodeon Podcasts, told Kidscreen. “When Nickelodeon gave us the chance, we jumped at it, striking a classic Nick balance between kid-appropriate horror, thrills and entertainment.” 

Nickelodeon has been investing in podcasts for several of its biggest brands over the past few years. In 2021, the kidcaster teamed up with iHeartRadio for a slate of titles based on Avatar: The Last Airbender and SpongeBob SquarePants. And the company also previously made podcasts based on The Loud House, The Casagrandes and Blue’s Clues & You!.

“This new audio thriller is just the beginning; we have so much more Nickelodeon fun planned in the months to come,” says Kestin-Sessler. 

Are You Afraid of the Dark? podcast was first announced in 2020, which was to have Jeremy Taylor reprises his role as “Graham” from the first season of the revival, Are You Afraid of the Dark?: The Carnival of Doom, playing a mysterious crypt keeper who transmits scary stories submitted to The Midnight Society through a pirate radio-style broadcast to listeners all over the world.

Beloved SpongeBob Kraft Mac and Cheese Returning After Fan Petition

After a years-long hiatus, SpongeBob SquarePants Kraft Mac is heading back to stores. Tuesday, the makers of the classic macaroni and cheese announced the return of the variation shaped after characters from the hit Nickelodeon show. Starting in October, Kraft Mac & Cheese SpongeBob SquarePants shapes are heading back to stores where regular Kraft products are sold. The company attributes the return to a viral petition hoping to get the cartoon noodles back in stores.

"As the brand that's been with fans through all of life's moments, Kraft Mac & Cheese is re-introducing this memorable offering that caters to everyone from 7 to 70," the company said in a release announcing the return. "Whether you're reveling in the nostalgic comfort and memories the SpongeBob SquarePants Shapes provide or trying this delicious new shape for the first time, Kraft Mac & Cheese invites you to put yourself first by proudly choosing what makes you feel good, inside and out."

Launching in 2017, the petition lobbied fans to write to the Kraft Heinz CEO in hopes of getting the product back in stores. This time around, SpongeBob Squarepants Kraft Mac will be available in both its classic blue box as well as a package of four microwavable cups.

It's been a busy fall for Kraft Mac as just last month, the company announced its biggest box of the macaroni and cheese yet.

"The Kraft Mac & Cheese College Care Pack is the brand's first-ever 30-pack of Kraft Mac & Cheese Easy Mac Cups, with one cup for every day of the first 30 days college and an all-in-one reusable silverware set," the brand said of its new offering. "As the first year of college is notoriously tough with one-third of students saying that the transition to college is difficult, Kraft Mac & Cheese is helping ease the adjustment with this new dorm room essential and encouraging students to proudly choose what makes them feel good, inside and out."

The Kraft Mac & Cheese College Pack is now available for purchase on Amazon, which includes 30 bowls of microwavable pasta and a reusable set of silverware for $29.99. The exact date for SpongeBob SquarePants Kraft Mac has yet to be unveiled.

Netflix to Add 'Drake & Josh' on October 1

Are you ready to relive one of your favorite childhood shows on Netflix? While there are so many awesome Nickelodeon shows from past and present available on Netflix right now, a super-popular title will hitting our watch lists this fall: Drake & Josh.

Drake Bell, Josh Pack, and Miranda Cosgrove starred in the comedy series that premiered back in January 2004 and lasted until September 2007, followed by a made-for-TV movie in December 2008. In the series, Bell and Peck play the titular teenage stepbrothers, who are complete opposites and get themselves into tricky situations, some of which are orchestrated by their mischievous little sister Megan (Cosgrove).

The series also features Nancy Sullivan as Audrey Parker-Nichols, Jonathan Goldstein as Walter Nichols, Yvette Nicole Brown as Helen Dubois, Jerry Trainor as "Crazy" Steve, Allison Scagliotti as Mindy Crenshaw, Alec Medlock as Craig Ramirez, and Scott Halberstadt as Eric Blonowitz.

Almost 20 years after its premiere, Drake & Josh is coming back to pop culture thanks to its arrival on Netflix. But how many seasons will fans be able to enjoy? Here’s everything you need to know about the show’s drop, including its release date, time, and episode count.

When is Drake & Josh coming to Netflix?

Drake & Josh will be added to Netflix on Sunday, Oct. 1. Like all Netflix new releases, the series will begin streaming at 12 a.m. PT and 3 a.m. ET. If you happen to be a night owl, you can get your nostalgia fix as soon as it drops.

How many seasons of Drake & Josh are on Netflix?

When Netflix announced the arrival of Drake & Josh, the streamer indicated that three seasons will be available to watch on Oct. 1. Those three seasons consist of 37 total episodes, as season 1 contains six episodes, season 2 contains 14 episodes, and season 3 contains 17 episodes.

Of course, the series also has a fourth season, which contains 19 more episodes, and additionally, there are two television movies: Drake & Josh Go to Hollywood and Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh, along with the special Really Big Shrimp. It’s unclear whether season 4 or the movies will ever arrive on Netflix at a later date, but season 4 is available to watch on Paramount+.

September 27, 2023 – Paramount+ today announced the expansion of its global Korean originals slate, revealing that three new series DONGJAE, THE GOOD OR THE BASTARD; DREAMING OF CINDE FXXXING RELLA, and PYRAMID GAME will launch exclusively on the service in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The latest batch of Korean shows completes all seven titles committed by Paramount+ and TVING, following YONDER, BARGAIN, A BLOODY LUCKY DAY and QUEEN WOO, as part of Paramount’s global partnership with leading entertainment company CJ ENM. 

Paramount+ is enjoying the growing success of its global Korean originals. YONDER, the first title announced from the partnership, aired on Paramount+ internationally in April and was the #1 international series in the US at premiere. The highly-acclaimed series BARGAIN has already picked up two international accolades, crowned ‘Best Screenplay’ at the Canneseries Awards Ceremony, and winning the Critics' Choice Award at the Seriencamp Festival in Germany. It recently had its North American premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival as part of the event’s Primetime section, and is set to launch on Paramount+ internationally on October 5.

DONGJAE, THE GOOD OR THE BASTARD, produced by Studio Dragon and ACE FACTORY, is a spin-off of the renowned thriller series Stranger, and its story will revolve around one of the popular characters in Stranger Seo Dongjae, whose future is bleak due to the stigma of his past corruption as a sponsor prosecutor. In the spin-off series, Dongjae is troubled by a redevelopment case. When he takes on the murder case of a high school girl, he begins to walk a dangerous tightrope between his intuition as a prosecutor and his instinct as an opportunist. DONGJAE, THE GOOD OR THE BASTARD is created by Lee Su-yeon, who wrote the first two seasons of Stranger. It is directed by Park Gun Ho, and written by Hwang Hajung and Kim Sangwon. 

DREAMING OF CINDE FXXXING RELLA is a “hybrid” romantic comedy created by renowned television screenwriter Baek Mi-kyoung who has written many well-received dramas, such as Strong Girl Bong-soon, The Lady in Dignity and Mine. DREAMING OF CINDE FXXXING RELLA is a story of a woman whose dream is to become Cinderella because of her harsh reality. She meets Prince Charming who doesn’t believe in love, and through the conflicts they face, she matures into becoming Princess Charming herself. It is a production that seems like a children’s story at times, but a hot adult love story at times, too. The series is directed by Kim Min-kyeong, written by Yu-ja, and produced by CJ ENM, Story Phoenix and KEYEAST.

PYRAMID GAME, created by JQ Lee, directed by BaK So Yeon, written by Choi Sui, is a story of a high school girl who had to escape being bullied and become a “sniper” to end the game in Baekyeon Girls' High School, where each person is graded through monthly voting, and an ‘F’ grade is labeled as a legitimate victim of school violence. PYRAMID GAME is produced by Film Monster and CJ ENM STUDIOS. Kim Jiyeon, known for her performance in the popular TV series Twenty-Five Twenty-One, plays the lead character Sung Soo-ji.

Milkshake! Commissions 'The Woohoos!'

The Woohoos!, a brand-new animated preschool series from producer Snipple Originals, has been commissioned by Channel 5’s Milkshake!

The 52×7-minute show showcases nature and celebrates the joy of discovering the outside world. Children can come along to discover dancing bees, things that need explaining, how you find your way without a map and more. Jetpack Distribution has international distribution rights outside of the U.K.

The show is set to hit U.K. screens in 2025.

The series is directed by Kitty Taylor, executive produced by Karina Stanford-Smith, Snipple Originals director, and produced in Snipple’s animation studio.

Stanford-Smith said: “Through this series, we realize the magic of—first and foremost—making preschoolers giggle. It’s pure heartfelt entertainment with nuggets of soft learning. After Bentley Barracuda plans to tear down the beloved Party Puddle Theatre, Baby and his squiddo friends must dive into action and travel to the deep dark depths of the ocean, to Wavey Jones' Locker, and through "Finterstellar Space" to create a "flowstopping," splash-hit Broadwave "swimsation." To save the theatre, they will need the audience to help fill the Party Puddle Applause Meter and put on the biggest Broadwave show ever, showcasing everyone can Doo-Doo-Doo-Doo-Doo-Doo it!
