Brand-new Live-action Series

Kid rapper and pint-sized powerhouse Young Dylan will join the Nickelodeon family with the brand-new live-action series, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, premiering Monday 7th December 2020 on Nickelodeon Iberia.

Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan will air daily at 16:00 on Nickelodeon Portugal and at 17:00 on Nickelodeon Spain (España).

Executive produced, directed and written by Perry, the series follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, Young Dylan (Dylan Gilmer), an aspiring hip-hop star, moves in unannounced. Michelle Sneed is also an executive producer, with Will Areu and Mark E. Swinton serving as producers. The series wrapped its first season on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. The series has been renewed for season two.

In Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, Dylan’s grandmother Viola (Aloma Wright) realizes that raising her grandson is too much to take on, so she decides to send him to live indefinitely with her affluent son Myles Wilson (Carl Anthony Payne II), his wife Yasmine (Mieko Hillman) and their two kids Rebecca (Celina Smith) and Charlie (Hero Hunter). Suddenly, the Wilson family household needs to adapt as lifestyles clash between rising hip-hop star Young Dylan and his straight-laced cousins. From Dylan giving Charlie, Rebecca, and her best friend Bethany (Jet Miller), lessons in “swag” and street smarts, to learning that even rappers have rules in the Wilson house, the series follows the hilarious hijinks this family faces as they try to get on the same beat.

In the series premiere of Young Dylan, "Imaginary Friends", Young Dylan arrives at his relatives’ home needing a place to live, but his streetwise swagger upends the conservative Wilson household. (#101)

Nickelodeon’s partnership with Perry is part of his long-term pact with ViacomCBS, producing original series for BET Networks (The Oval and Sistas) and other ViacomCBS networks, with exclusive licensing rights on this programming. Additionally, Perry recently announced his joint venture with BET Networks for the new streaming video on demand service BET+. Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan marks Perry’s first kids’ scripted series.

Born and raised in Annapolis, Md., Gilmer is known for his many appearances and performances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and at NBA All-Star Weekend. Gilmer has an overall talent deal with Telepictures, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Television, and has previously guest starred on the revival of Nickelodeon’s hit series All That.

Gilmer is represented by Sherry Kayne of The Green Room and Chris Abramson at Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.

The production of Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan for Nickelodeon is overseen by Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content. Brian Banks serves as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.

Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan underscores a key element of Nickelodeon's content strategy, to mine social platforms for the talent that kids love. Nick's new content slate is informed by the network's ongoing research and insights into today's generation of kids, who: are the most diverse generation ever and expect to see themselves authentically represented in media and in the world around them; want to make a positive difference in the world as they grow up; consider social media stars as their top role models, alongside their parents; and increasingly meet their much-desired need for family time by co-viewing entertainment content together.

Nickelodeon has teamed up with Kidrobot to create a new collectible figurine in honor of SpongeBob SquarePants' 20th Anniversary.

The new Kidrobot x Nickelodeon Sea Sponge SpongeBob SquarePants Abrasive Sponge 8" Art Figure is inspired by an episode of Nickelodeon's beloved animated series series titled "The Abrasive Side". It measures 8 inches in height and features a real abrasive sponge inside of a sealed transparent shell, wearing SpongeBob’s Abrasive face. The figure also has flexible arms that can be posed in a variety of positions. It is available now for $64.99 through the Kidrobot website.

"Ahoy there, matey! Kidrobot and Nickelodeon take everyone’s favorite sponge from his undersea pineapple and into the world of collectible art! In honor of SpongeBob SquarePants' 20th Anniversary, Best Year Ever celebration, the Kidrobot x Nickelodeon 8-inch SpongeBob SquarePants Sea Sponge art figure reimagines what it means to be a sponge on a shelf.  This Sea Sponge SpongeBob Art Figure is inspired by "The Abrasive Side" episode featuring a real abrasive sponge inside a sealed transparent shell and SpongeBob’s Abrasive face. This SpongeBob art figure's arms are articulated so he can strike your favorite pose. Soak up this art figure to clean up your to your collection!"

SpongeBob SquarePants debuted on Nickelodeon in 1999 and has been going strong for two decades. The series follows the titular sponge as he balances his job at the Krusty Krab burger shack and his relationships with his neighbors and friends in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom.

In "The Abrasive Side", which aired during Season 7, SpongeBob's pet snail Gary orders his owner an actual abrasive sponge -- which is designed for doormat sponges like SpongeBob to stick on their back to help them say no to anyone that needs their help. As the episode unfolds, SpongeBob's new abrasive side makes disparaging remarks to his friends. Ultimately, Sandy the Squirrel helps SpongeBob return to his natural state by ripping the abrasive sponge off his back. The episode ends with SpongeBob realizing that his grandmother also ordered an abrasive side and screaming, "No!"

Other toys available for preorder via Kidrobot as part of Nickelodeon's Best Year Ever celebration include the the SpongeBob SquarePants Patrick Star Art Figure - NYCC Iridescent Edition ($64.99); the SpongeBob & Patrick BFFs Vinyl Art Figure ($69.99); and the SpongeBob Patrick Star with Ice Cream HugMe Plush ($34.99).

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run stars Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Rodger Bumpass and Clancy Brown, with Awkwafina and Keanu Reeves. The film -- which serves as the third film installment in the franchise -- is streaming globally on Netflix (excluding the U.S., Canada and China) and will receive a premium video-on-demand and CBS All Access/Paramount+ release in the United States in early 2021. Nickelodeon's SpongeBob prequel, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, is also scheduled to debut on Paramount+ in 2021. That series will follow a 10-year-old SpongeBob and center on his adventures at sleep-away camp. The voice cast of the original series will also reprise their roles for the prequel.

JoJo Siwa on New Holiday Music, Recovering from COVID-19 and Her Recent Breakup

JoJo Siwa on New Holiday Music, Recovering From COVID-19 and Her Recent Breakup

Nickelodeon star JoJo Siwa has had quite an eventful 2020. While many celebrities have been forced to put their careers on hold amid the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the 17-year-old dancer and singer continues to treat fans to new music and projects.

With the holidays in full swing, JoJo dropped a festive new single and music video for “Where Are You Christmas,” featured on her latest EP, JoJo’s Rockin’ Christmas. She even took a risk with some of her songs on EP.

"I picked my favorite Christmas songs and one of them is obviously Santa Claus Is Coming to Town and the other one was 'Where Are You Christmas' [by Faith Hill]," she shared. "Everyone at first was like, 'Where Are You Christmas? That's a lot of singing and a very hard song to sing.' I was like, 'I know.' Abby [Miller] taught me back in the day on Dance Moms, you gotta be able to put your heart on a platter and be ready for somebody to stab it. And with this song, I was like, we're gonna push myself and it might not be the best version of 'Where Are You Christmas' ever, my voice might not sound like Faith Hill…but I'm JoJo and I got the 6-year-olds that love it and that's all that matters."

"And then with the original, 'It's Christmas Now,' I want to take a song that people already know and just remix it full Christmas," she continued. "And it's funny to me that teenagers on TikTok are like, 'This sounds just like 'High Top Shoes.' And I'm like, it literally says it's the Christmas remix. It is 'High Top Shoes.'"

The internet sensation has been hard at work, but ahead of the holidays she did have some unexpected downtime when she and her family all tested positive for COVID-19.

"I did end up getting it, the big, dreaded COVID-19. It got through my whole family," JoJo told ET's Lauren Zima while promoting her new music, adding that luckily they had mild symptoms. "We had headaches, we were tired, we had shortness of breath, we had all the things. All my family actually lost their taste and smell, but all have it back. But I never did."

JoJo revealed that she was the last family member to contract the virus after her parents and brother tested positive and all are feeling better. "Everyone who gets this virus, it's gonna affect them differently," she shared. "We were all, like, three days apart."

Another bump in the road for JoJo was breaking up with her boyfriend, Mark Bontempo. The former Dance Moms star said they ended on good terms, and just needed to focus on themselves.

"Everything's still OK, we're still good," she assured. "I am single as a Pringle right now. But Mark and I did break up. We were together for three months and it was great. We had fun, we drove through Taco Bell, I think, 450 times. We had some really fun nights. We never actually had any hard times, we never fought, we never were mad at each other. It was honestly a great time. It just, we had to work. He had to do some things in his life that I wanted to be there for him, but he had to be there 250 percent for himself. And I didn't want to take away from him being able to be there for himself. So I was like, 'Listen, we can be friends.'"

"And when I ended the relationship I was like, I don't want to just say 'let’s be friends' and then let’s not. Like, let's be friends and let’s make it normal," she noted, adding, "He deserves nothing but greatness."

Dating's not on JoJo's mind right now, but if she does find a new person to call her own, she's not opposed to it.

"My life is so figured out…My career is so like, 'Boom, this is what's happening,' and I just have to keep running forward on that track. And so for me, on the relationship side of things, it's more just like a fun thing," she said, elaborating. "If it comes around, great. And if it doesn't come around, also great. I have so much with what I'm doing right now that if anyone wants to join the party, I'm down!"

At the end of the day, all JoJo looks for in a significant other is, "In a couple words: Nice, cares about me, and is there for me through thick and thin…What's most important to me is just somebody who genuinely, really, truly cares about me."

Working from a very young age, JoJo has built a glitter-covered, bow-wearing empire. She understands that life in the limelight has its ups and downs, heartbreak and sacrifices -- as well as unwanted criticism.

"I have been hated on for so much stuff that that stuff is almost like I am used to it and it does not bother me," JoJo expressed when talking about life as a child star. "I am like, this is just another hater that has nothing to do with their day, that is just having fun on the comments section. It does not matter. But I definitely have gotten more love from teenagers."

She also understands that people will continue to criticize her look, adding that when people say, "'Jojo is a giant toddler,' it does not affect me."

"I realized now that I was put on this Earth for one reason and that one main reason is to perform and to make other people happy," she explained. "I can't even explain the sense of 'This is what I'm supposed to be doing' when I'm performing. It's the most perfect feeling."

Of course, there have been many other child stars whom she has looked up to and followed their journey. But one surprising celeb whom she relates to the most is none other than Paris Hilton.

"Honestly, the person who I kind of felt the most 'she gets it' is with Paris Hilton, because she is like, 'I don't know how to explain it to people' and I am like, 'It is crazy, I know exactly what you are saying because I don't either!'" JoJo explained. "We are not a character, but we just have another side."

"I have a really good connection with Meghan Trainor, she is a sweetheart," she added. "Kim [Kardashian] is a sweetheart. Everyone is just so nice."

Meanwhile, it's a great time to be JoJo Siwa, who couldn't be more excited to close out the year.

"I love the holidays, it's such a fun time of the year!" JoJo relished. "It's fun because [there's] always something happening. For us, it's Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year -- and you just always have something to look forward to!"

From WrapPro:

Experiential Supply Co. had created one-of-a-kind fan experiences for studios like Warner Bros. and Disney. Then the coronavirus came…

Like many business owners, Jasen Smith had to adjust to the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdowns it created.

Smith, the founder of Experiential Supply Co. — an experiential production and attractions company — had been on a roll, creating one-of-a-kind, in-person fan experiences for studios like Warner Bros., Disney and Universal.

Some of Experiential Supply’s unique projects included the Yeti Village for Warner Bros. 2018 animated film “Small Foot,” and the Derry Canal Days Festival and Funhouse for “It: Chapter II” — a close collaboration with director Andy Muschietti and his sister/producer Barbara. Both experiences, erected in the heart of Hollywood, drew thousands of visitors and built viral buzz for the films.

Experiential Supply Co. worked closely with “It: Chapter 2” director Andy Muschietti for a year on this fan experience (Photo credit: Experiential Supply Co.)

Smith had just come off a successful event for “Birds of Prey” with stars Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor in February when the pandemic struck.

“When the pandemic hit, I was like, “Cool, we’ll be off for three weeks,'” Smith told TheWrap. “We had projects that got canceled by at SXSW with Disney and FX so it hurt a little bit. But part of was like, ‘Okay, we’ll take a little breather and get back to work.'”

But as the lockdown extended and release dates shuffled and then removed from the 2020 calendar, Smith knew he had to shift gears. He also was feeling the pressure from another source, his family.

“My oldest daughter, Emerson, was born on Halloween,” Smith explained. “My wife — the planner that she is — asked, ‘What are we doing for Emerson’s birthday? We can’t go to Disneyland. She’s not going to trick or treat. What are we gonna do, Mr. Event Man?”

“I was a little down that this was the future. I started to think, ‘How do we get back?’ and drive-thrus were being talked about,” Smith recounted. “I was watching videos, and I just didn’t see anything that could match up with the walkthrough experience that we had done that really transports someone to a different world or get them out of the place they were when they entered.”

This was already late July, when the summer blockbuster season was awash. Smith turned his eyes towards the fall.

“I thought to myself, ‘Why can’t we do Halloween?’ It was our first time going from work for hire for the studios to consumer-facing. I was really worried because it’s easy for us to show a brand in a sales pitch and say this is ‘It.’ When the public comes to ‘It,’ ‘Ready Player One,’ or ‘Lego,’ they’re not coming for us, they’re coming for that intellectual property. That’s the lead horse, not us.”

That was the huge — and risky — unknown.

“I was really nervous the public might not care what we’ve done. They might not hand over their money based on that. So we gotta really focus on the experience and where you’re going to fill the gaps,” Smith said. :If you say you’re going to create a Halloween tradition, you better nail it.”

Experiential Supply Co. came up with Hauntoween, a Halloween drive-thru experience in the San Fernando Valley. Smith and his team were challenged to do something that COVID-safe but also more entertaining and bigger than anything done before.

“I felt a lot of drive-thrus were doing pass-by routes with pretty lights or little sets. I wanted to put people inside of something,” Smith said.

Hauntoween was Experiential Supply Co.’s first own consumer-facing experience

For three weeks in October, they transformed a parking lot in Woodland Hills into a “neighborhood” (see the time-lapse video here) where elaborately costumed performers at each house handed bags of candy (at a safe distance) to trick or treaters in their cars. They replicated a pumpkin patch experience where visitors could pick their favorite and have it safely delivered. Cars also got to drive through a dazzling jack-o-lantern tunnel and activations made by sponsors, including Party City.

It worked out better than Smith could’ve imagined. “We had people creating counterfeit tickets to experience this world we created,” he noted. Over 27,000 cars visited Hauntoween. He realized halfway through he had to literally build upon what he created.

There was a reason for that, not just because the infrastructure is here,” Smith explained. “Hollywood and Vine — where we did all the Warner Bros. stuff — we created a viral destination. People knew when they started seeing something built over there it was going to be big and going to be kick-ass. We proved that people would come out to the Valley and have a great time at our location. I wanted to repeat that same vibe. This parking lot in Woodland Hills, there’s something going down here.”

WonderLAnd — a winter holiday experience for Los Angelenos (hence the name). Some of the Hauntoween attractions were updated (the jack-o-lantern tunnel transformed into snowflake one) but many of them were new and improved, thanks to sponsors like TBS (who have a holiday monster truck experience that has to be seen rather than described), Party City and Amazon Fresh. There’s also a celebrity component: singer and social media star JoJo Siwa has her own “Rocking Christmas” area and fans were able to drive around her stage during a special performance. Siwa (and Nickelodeon, which she is signed too) was courted after she visited the Hauntoween experience.

There’s falling snow, too, as guests drive through a holiday light show timed to Marshmello’s “Mellodees’ Happy HoliDees” seasonal songs.
