Nickelodeon Latin America To Premiere "Legends Of The Hidden Temple" On Sunday 19th February 2017

Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica) will premiere the highly anticipated Legends of the Hidden Temple original TV movie, inspired by Nick USA's iconic ‘90s game show of the same name, on Sunday 19th February 2017 at 7:30pm on Nickelodeon México and Nickelodeon Colombia, 8:30pm on Nickelodeon Venezuela and at 9pm on Nickelodeon Argentina! Locally titled Leyendas del Templo Escondido, Isabela Moner (100 Cosas para Hacer Antes de High School, Transformers 5), Colin Critchley and Jet Jurgensmeyer (Bubble Guppies, Shimmer and Shine) join original TV show host, Kirk Fogg, and voice of Olmec, Dee Bradley Baker (American Dad!, Bob Esponja), in the 90-minute action-adventure movie, which tells the story of three siblings who embark on a high-stakes, life-or-death mission.

The Legends of the Hidden Temple TV movie follows three siblings, Sadie (Moner), Noah (Critchley), and Dudley (Jurgensmeyer), who break away from a lackluster tour in a jungle, finding themselves immersed in a high-stakes adventure comprised of obstacles that they must complete in order to escape alive. The TV movie will feature elements from the original game show including: Olmec, a talking stone head who greets anyone who dares to enter the temple; The Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad for the mission; and cameos from a green monkey, red jaguar, and silver snakes, among others.

Nickelodeon’s First-Ever Princess Is Biracial, And A Knight

For those parents tired of “princess culture” with its celebration of all things gender-normative, Nickelodeon's brand-new animated preschool series, Nella the Princess Knight, could be a welcome addition to the canon.


In case the title of the new cartoon program which premiered today didn’t tip you off, Nella is not just a princess, she’s a princess knight. That means she rides a pink-maned unicorn but brandishes a sword and armor.

“There are a lot of princesses out there and we had to think about what would make a Nickelodeon princess unique. What became crystal clear to us in the development process is that Nella didn’t have to be a princess or a knight ― she could be both,” Nina Hahn, Senior Vice President of International Production and Development at Nickelodeon, told The Huffington Post.

The character, Nickelodeon's first-ever princess, is also biracial, with a white mother and a black father, which Hahn says is “representative of what the world looks like to kids today.”

The decision was informed by research that indicated that most children under 12 will be nonwhite by 2020 and that already 17 percent are biracial, the network told The New York Times.



The character is a mash-up of traditional “boy” and “girl” elements. Yes, Nella wears a ball gown, but she adds a sword, shield and boots when she transforms into the princess knight. Yes, the show has the sparkly look and feel of a traditionally saccharine show aimed at “girly” girls, but the female hero is a brave adventurer, who backflips and fences her way through the setting. An episode even features her singing “Fight Song,” which was last best associated with former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

The teaser trailer for the show plays to those differences, showing the hero in a ball gown and tiara while the voice-over begins: “In a far off kingdom, there is a princess named Nella, with a beautiful gown and sparkling tiara. She is a picture perfect princess.”

“But that’s only part of my story,” Nella responds.



The network hopes the show can appeal to all kids ― boys, girls, princess-lovers of both genders, and so on.

”We have a strong girl lead, but the big ideas for the show ― to be courageous, have empathy for others and trust your inner voice ― are universal,” says Hahn.

Nick Jr. is gearing up to introduce their newest powerhouse princess, Nella — a tiny, but courageous royal who occasionally turns into a knight to save the day (or night!).


Unlike many princesses before her, Nella the Princess Knight appears to be of blended ethnicity. She’s also a pint-sized spitfire (no damsel in distress here). And, according to Nickelodeon Group President Cyma Zarghami, she stands for everything our world needs.

“This is hopefully representative of what our country actually does look like,” Zarghami tells PEOPLE. “I think that we are telling authentic stories about real kids and real families — even though they’re animated and fantasy-based. We’re really trying to reflect what kids see every day … real kids who look like you and me.”

She also notes, “Girl empowerment is really a part of Nickelodeon’s DNA, so a girl who transforms into a knight to save the day sounds exactly in line with what we believe is our mission.”

Nella, voiced by 12-year-old actress Akira Golz, is an adventurous 8-year-old who is not afraid to speak her mind and embrace her distinct qualities.

“She’s totally unconventional,” Golz tells PEOPLE. “She has the real qualities of a princess, like grace and compassion, but also the courage and determination of a knight.”


NICKELODEON GROUP

Besides her ability to kick butt, Nella embraces her physical differences as well.

“One of the things we’re talking a lot about is how adults would characterize it and how kids would characterize it,” Zarghami explains on how Nickelodeon would define Nella’s race or ethnicity. “The answer to the kid front is, here’s somebody that looks like somebody I might know. I’m growing up in a world that is full of different kinds of families and people of different race, religion and ethnicity. So it looks very authentic to these kids. To us, it looks like we’re doing something cutting-edge and different and innovative. To the audience it’s like, ‘That’s what they’re supposed to look like.’ ”

Golz also says she’s learned a lot about herself since starting the show.

“I’ve learned that I have some things that I can work on, too,” explains Golz. “Nella’s a great person, she’s always super sweet and has a lot of confidence. I feel like ever since I started Nella, I feel like I’ve been a little bit more outgoing and little bit more confident in myself just from seeing all the things she’s done.”

She adds, “I hope Nella teaches young girls to have confidence, be inclusive and have compassion for others.”

Nella the Princess Knight premieres Monday at 10 a.m. ET on Nickelodeon.

PAW Patrol Live! "Race to the Rescue", the first touring live show starring Ryder and the team of pups, features innovative costuming. Using Bunraku, puppetry elements are built into costumes worn by performers to create life-size pups that wag their tails, blink their eyes, move their mouths and engage the audience throughout their adventure. The costume design brings a fun, realistic parallel between the animated series and the live show. Each pup's all-important Pup Pack and vehicle also makes an appearance during the show.

Panini UK Readies "Blaze And The Monster Machines" Magazine

Nickelodeon’s hit preschool property Blaze and the Monster Machines is launching in the form of a magazine for fans to enjoy!

Produced by Panini UK, the pre-school magazine will hit shelves from Thursday 9th February 2017, and will be packed full with stories, competitions, puzzles, crafts and fun learning activities.


Issue One will introduce readers to the world of Blaze, AJ and their Monster Machine friends, and also boasts a cut-out racing driver set, a giant play mat, plus an activity sticker sheet for £3.99. Designed for kids aged from three to six years old, the magazine will feature 36 pages.

“We are delighted to be working with Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products on Blaze and the Monster Machines,” said Jess Tadmor, head of marketing at Panini.

Concept One Accessories Signs New Deals For Nickelodeon And MTV Properties

Concept One Accessories has signed a series of licensing agreements with Brandgenuity and Viacom to develop products for brands such as SpongeBob SquarePants, MTV and Daria!


Under the terms of the agreement with Brandgenuity – Viacom’s licensing agent for its networks, including MTV, VH1, Comedy Central and Spike –Concept One will create headwear, cold weather accessories, tote bags, backpacks, belts, wallets, flip flops, slippers, sneakers and board shorts based on properties including MTV, Beavis & Butthead, Daria, Yo MTV Raps, Headbangers Ball and The Real World.

Additionally, Concept One will develop a range of adult headwear and cold weather accessories inspired by SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Splat.

Concept One Accessories is a privately held company founded by brothers Sam and Bernie Hafif. The company holds a raft of licenses for brands including Levis, Hickey Freeman, Izod, U.S. Polo Association and entertainment studios including Disney and Warner Bros.

Shout! and DHX Media Strike Home Entertainment Deal for "Kuu Kuu Harajuku"

Shout! Factory and DHX Media have teamed up to bring Grammy winner Gwen Stefani’s popular music-driven, street fashion-inspired animated series Kuu Kuu Harajuku to the North American home entertainment market. The deal was announced by Shout! Factory founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos; and Mark Shoeman, Territory Manager at DHX Media.


The multi-year agreement grants Shout! the exclusive home entertainment distribution rights (DVD and Blu-ray) in the US and Canada to all 26 episodes of the first-season of the series. A strategic rollout is planned for 2017 through kids & family imprint, Shout! Factory Kids.

“The US market is a huge territory for us and one where Kuu Kuu Harajuku is proving to be widely popular with its audience on Nickelodeon, so it was crucial for us to appoint a strong home entertainment company in the region,” said Shoeman. “Shout! Factory understands the market, and importantly for us, the kids’ sector, and we feel they are the ideal company to take this highly original series beyond broadcast into DVD.”


Kuu Kuu Harajuku follows the fun-loving bandmates of HJ5 — Love, Angel, Music, Baby and G — as they encounter magical adventures in a super cute world full of music, fashion and style. The concept was born out of Stefani’s desire to create an animated series for girls that encourages creative self-expression, imagination and individuality, and is inspired by the street fashion and creative youth culture of Tokyo’s Harajuku district.

Airing on Nickelodeon in the US and Family Channel in Canada, the series is co-created and produced by Moody Street Kids (Australia), Vision Animation (Malaysia) and Gwen Stefani; and commissioned by Network Ten with investment funding from Film Victoria (Australia) and MyCreative Ventures (Malaysia). DHX Media handles international distribution.
