Paramount Moves Forward Release of 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next Chapter' Movie

Paramount Pictures has slightly moved forward the release date of the studio's upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie! Originally slated for August 11, 2023, the theatrical, currently titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next Chapter, will now be released in theaters on August 4, 2023!

Additionally, a new animated Transformers film, not thought to be related to Nickelodeon's upcoming Transformers series, will also debut on July 19, 2024.

Erik Davis from Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes shared the new Paramount Pictures release dates on Twitter.

The world’s most fearsome fighting team began as a joke in 1983, but the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have had serious success ever since. Countless comic books, television shows, films, and video games have shown the group’s lasting appeal. So it’s no surprise they’re gearing up for another big screen adventure. Nickelodeon is teaming up with Seth Rogen on an all-new CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

Nickelodeon first announced it is partnering with Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver to develop a new CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film in June 2020. It will also be Nickelodeon Animation Studio’s first-ever CG theatrical release. Jeff Rowe (Gravity Falls, Connected, Disenchantment) will direct. Brendan O’Brian (Neighbors, Sorority Rising) will write the script. Nickelodeon’s Executive Vice President Ramsey Naito will lead the production for Nickelodeon, alongside Point Grey Pictures’s Josh Fagen. Paramount Pictures will distribute the film globally.

“Adding Seth, Evan and James’ genius to the humor and action that’s already an integral part of TMNT is going to make this a next-level reinvention of the property,” said Brian Robbins, President, Kids & Family for ViacomCBS, in a statement.

Plot details for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remain under wraps, but Rogen previously revealed that the film will use the "teenage" part of the title as the "jumping off point for the film."

"As a lifelong fan of Ninja Turtles, weirdly the 'Teenage' part of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was always the part that stuck out to me the most. And as someone who loves teenage movies, and who’s made a lot of teenage movies, and who literally got their start in their entire profession by writing a teenage movie, the idea of kind of honing in on that element was really exciting to us. I mean, not disregarding the rest, but really using that as kind of a jumping off point for the film."

This is the most recent heroes in a half shell project from Nickelodeon. The network debuted the 2D-animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2018. The network is also working with Netflix on an original animated 2D film based on that most recent series. Season one of Rise of the TMNT is currently streaming on Paramount+.

This is not entirely new ground for Leo, Donatello, Mikey, and Raph. Nickelodeon previously produced a CG-animated series that debuted in 2012. And Warner Bros. also produced a CG-animated feature film. TMNT, whose cast included Chris Evans as Casey Jones. That one released in 2007.

In addition to the CG-animated TMNT film, Colin Jost (Saturday Night Live) and his brother Casey (Impractical Jokers) are reportedly penning a new live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie for Paramount.

And we’re sure this won’t be the group’s last big screen foray. That’s one heck of a legacy for superheroes who began as a joke.

ViacomCBS to Become Paramount on Feb. 16

Bob Bakish and Shari Redstone announced the news in a memo to staff ahead of the company’s presentation to investors.

The “ViacomCBS” name is being retired.

CEO Bob Bakish on Tuesday announced that the merged company will be known as simply Paramount, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 16. (The parent company’s legal name is technically Paramount Global.)

Shares of Paramount will trade on the Nasdaq as PARAA (class A common), PARA (Class B common) and PARAP (Preferred Stock), beginning with trading on Feb. 17 at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Bakish and Shari Redstone, non-executive chair of the company’s board of directors, announced the news Tuesday in a company-wide memo ahead of the company’s presentation to investors. (Read the full memo, below.)

ViacomCBS had been the name of the conglomerate after Viacom and CBS agreed to re-merge the two companies a couple years ago. Since then, the conglomerate has put all their resources into rebranding CBS All Access as Paramount+, with the streamer considered a home for all the company’s entertainment brands, including Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and BET, among others.

The new Paramount name helps reflect brands including Paramount Pictures, Showtime, Paramount Television Studios and Paramount Network.

Here’s the full memo, below:

We could not be prouder of this incredible company.

It has been one year since the spectacular launch of Paramount+ and two years since the successful merger of Viacom and CBS. In that time, we have shown the world what we knew from the start: that together, aligned around a shared vision and shared strategy, we create a whole that is far greater than the sum of its parts.

This is an exciting moment in the history of our company. Our streaming business is growing fast—and going global. Our broad and varied portfolio of content is captivating audiences around the world. Our brands are firing on all cylinders. And as results from the fourth quarter and the whole of last year make clear, our momentum is accelerating. The size of the opportunity we see ahead is matched only by our determination to seize it.

An iconic global company deserves an iconic global name. One that reflects the power of our content; one that reflects our role as stewards of a rich heritage and as leaders in the future of entertainment.

With this in mind, as we’re announcing today at our investor event, ViacomCBS is becoming Paramount Global, or, more simply, Paramount.

For more than a century, the name Paramount has been synonymous with great entertainment and industry leadership. It’s part of our history, as pioneers of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

But as Paramount+ has made clear, it’s also about our bright future.

And, not least, it’s an idea: a promise to be the best.

As Paramount, our name will reflect who we are, what we aspire to be, and all that we stand for. It will help advance our strategy of harnessing all our strength and breadth in building the businesses of tomorrow.  And it will capture the collective power of our global assets, from our amazing brands—CBS, Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon, Smithsonian, Paramount Pictures, Paramount+, Pluto TV and more— to our global reach and our diverse audiences. All of which adds up to Paramount being the pre-eminent home to, and producers of, the world’s greatest content.

We will succeed because we have the best team in the industry: all of you. This change in our name is a testament to the excellence you embody—to the evolution you’re leading, every single day.

Thanks to your hard work and vision, we have never been more excited about the future of this company. Together, Paramount is on the ascent—and ready to reach new heights.

Bob and Shari

NEW YORK, Feb. 15, 2022 -- ViacomCBS today announced that the global media company will become Paramount Global (referred to as "Paramount"), effective February 16, bringing together its leading portfolio of premium entertainment properties under a new parent company name.

"Paramount is an idea: A promise to be the best," said Shari Redstone, Non-Executive Chair of the company's Board of Directors. "That promise has always been at the center of what we aspired to build as the steward of more than a century of cinematic excellence, and with businesses and brands that have defined and redefined entertainment for generation after generation. We have made enormous progress, and I have never been more excited about the future of this company."

"Paramount's iconic peak represents a rich history for our company as pioneers in the Golden Age of Hollywood. Today, as we embrace the Paramount name, we are pioneers of an exciting new future," said Bob Bakish, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The company's shares will trade on the Nasdaq stock exchange as PARAA (Class A common), PARA (Class B common) and PARAP (Preferred Stock), beginning with trading on February 17, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. ET.

In addition to the name change, the company detailed plans to accelerate the global momentum behind Paramount+, unveiling new content, enhanced product offerings and continued international expansion at its investor event.

"We see a huge global opportunity in streaming, a much larger potential market than can be captured by linear TV and film alone," continued Bakish. "We're excited about our ability to not just compete, but thrive, creating significant value for both consumers and shareholders. How? Because we're broader in four key areas: our diverse content, streaming model, mix of platforms and global reach. As we look forward, the size of the opportunity we see is matched only by our ambition to seize it."

Today's event demonstrated the global power of fan-favorite IP with an expansive slate of exciting programming announcements. Paramount+ will continue to deliver the most diverse content offering in streaming across every genre at scale, including beloved franchise extensions and all-new buzzworthy originals spanning must-see movies, scripted dramas, unscripted reality TV, comedy, kids and family, sports, news, specials and events to super-serve the entire household.

"On Paramount+, we have something for everyone," said Tanya Giles, Chief Programming Officer, Streaming. "We are taking our broad content offering and deepening it with more content in key categories, building on our treasure trove of IP to create lasting, hit franchises."

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--Nov. 11, 2021--Nickelodeon announced today that it has greenlit a 20-episode third season of its hit live-action comedy Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan. The series follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, hip-hop mogul-in-training Dylan (Dylan Gilmer), moves in unannounced. The season will begin production early next year at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.

The third season of Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan will follow Dylan as he continues his pursuit of stardom, while getting his family into hilarious hijinks along the way. Accompanying him in his quest for music greatness are his uncle Myles (Carl Anthony Payne II), aunt Yasmine (Mieko Hillman), grandmother Viola (Aloma Lesley Wright), cousins Rebecca (Celina Smith) and Charlie (Hero Hunter), and Rebecca’s best friend Bethany (Jet Miller).

In 3Q21, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan ranked as the #1 live-action program on Cable among kids 6-11 and was the top-rated show across all TV among Black kids 6-11. New episodes of Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan currently air on Nickelodeon on Thursdays at 7 p.m. (ET/PT), with the season two finale scheduled to air Thursday, Dec. 9.

Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan is executive produced and created by Tyler Perry. Mark E. Swinton, Will Areu, and Carmen Jones will serve as producers. Production of Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan for Nickelodeon is overseen by Shauna Phelan and Zack Olin, Co-Heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action. Brian Banks serves as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.

About Tyler Perry Studios

Tyler Perry Studios (TPS) was formed by actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry and develops and produces motion picture films, in addition to drama and comedy television programming for the multi-platform U.S. television market.  TPS' former studio lot was situated on a 200,000 square foot former Delta Airlines campus of over 60 acres in the Greenbriar area of southwest Atlanta.  During the course of its operation, the space was home to production of 10 films and over 700 episodes of Perry's five television series.  In 2015, TPS expanded operations with the acquisition of Fort McPherson, a former army base, which sits on over 330 acres minutes from downtown Atlanta. Perry and the studio's Georgia-based employees are in production of Perry's current television series and feature films, in addition to providing state of the art facilities and services to major feature films and television shows filming in Atlanta. The TPS grounds contain twelve soundstages named after highly accomplished African-Americans in the entertainment industry that range in size between 10,000 and 60,000 square feet.
