'Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl' Developer Teases Next Update

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl developer shares what to expect in next update, says hitbox changes go hand-in-hand with direct balance

The latest, fast paced platform brawler Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is gearing up for another balance update. While players of brawler games are typically left wondering what when the next patch will be released, the game's character designer and programmer, Thaddeus Crews, has been vocal about the next update on Twitter.

This patch puts a focus on hitbox changes, as Thaddeus previously mentioned, but we now know that only a handful were tweaked. We also get some insight into how integral these changes are to overall game balance.

"Hmm, seems like not all the stuff I was planning/making will make it into this patch wave, which is a bit of a bummer," Thaddeus begins in a tweet. The developer goes on to divulge what types of things are confirmed for the next patch.

"For sure there's gonna be updated hurtboxes, new 2D calculations, initial dash boosts & some hitbox adjustments in the upcoming patch at the least," Crews explains.

Earlier this week, Crews took to Twitter to ask for the assistance of the players. Fans were prompted to submit the really egregious examples of hitboxes that didn't line up with the visual of the attack properly, as this is what Thaddeus aimed to fix most for this upcoming update.

Following the tweets about the update, Thaddeus went on to explain the correlation between hitboxes and direct balance. It is because these changes affect balance so much that only a handful were made this time around.

It's currently unknown when the next update for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is scheduled to be release, but now we have a good idea of what's coming when it does.

Train and Fight with the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtle Power Card Game' and More – Available Now from The Op!

Train and Fight with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtle Power Card Game and More – Available Now from The Op!

Sporting neon may have been bodacious in the 90s, but not if it’s radioactive ooze polluting the sewers of New York City! Just ask a certain crime-fighting foursome that we’ve come to love from that era, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. After their incident with the spill, they’ve emerged from the underground better and stronger ever since!

Now you can be a part of the adventure as you ready the heroes for their greatest battle yet… just with the swift moves of your hands! Train and fight as brothers and ultimately save the Earth in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtle Power Card Game, available now from The Op!

Alien mastermind and archnemesis, Krang, is on a mission to take over the world, but Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael are joined by Master Splinter to stop him in this intense game of luck and strategy! Be the first player to prepare all five characters and dominate in the final showdown that takes place through two gripping phases:

Episode 1: Get your team trained up by winning Rock Paper Scissors-style battles against the other players, where all shout “TURTLE POWER!” and show their hand of 0-5 fingers. The largest solo number turns over an Activation card that determines how many Turtles level up!

Episode 2: When one player has flipped over all five cards, they’re now playing as the heroes against Krang—but there’s a twist. The remaining players are controlling the villain and must be taken down! This time, it’s “HERE-COMES-KRANG!” that’s shouted before all players show a number of fingers. If the Turtles have a unique hand, Krang’s grid loses cards. If any of Krang’s hands match the Turtles’, that number must go back to being untrained. Don’t let all five members regress or you’ll lose to the brain-and-body enemy!

For games of 5-6 players, the Turtles get the help of Casey Jones and April O’Neil in the fight, who act as defense and guard your team from losing their training. Steadily win through the 12 roshambo battles that make up Episode 2, and the Turtles destroy Krang for good!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise started off as a series of self-published comic books by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The franchise exploded after Playmates licensed a series of popular action figures based on the toys. The 1987 television show pushed the franchise to new heights, leading to a series of live-action movies. The franchise has continued to be relevant in pop culture over the decades, thanks to a series of rebooted cartoon series and movies. Today, the franchise is owned by Nickelodeon.

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Getting Funko Pops Based on Eastman & Laird Comics

A new line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Funko Pops! are getting a comics-accurate representation, based on the Eastman & Laird comics.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are getting a comics-accurate Funko Pop! line. TMNT were created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 as a black-and-white indie comic book series from Mirage Studios. Since that time, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have gone on to become world-famous pop-culture icons, showing up in every form of media and merchandise available, from movies to animated shows, toys, apparel, video games, stage shows, and so much more. Since their inception, the TMNT have rebranded time and again, reaching each new generation that follows, keeping the franchise alive and thriving.

Eastman & Laird famously created the characters as a joke, simply doodling and brainstorming, later creating a whole team of Ninja Turtles and making it loosely tie into the origins of Marvel's Daredevil (although never officially). The toxic Mutagen ooze that turns the turtles into walking, talking, kicking, punching ninjas is unofficially the same cannister that blinded Matt Murdock and gave him his abilities as The Man Without Fear. The other connection Eastman & Laird made was in naming their evil ninja brood The Foot, which is a riff on Daredevil's nemesis clan, The Hand. Marvel connections aside, TMNT went on to be a dark and somewhat violent comic in subsequent early issues, mirroring the style of the time, especially by artist Frank Miller.

Today, Previews World announced preorders for their new line of TMNT Funko Pops! which are designed in the style of Eastman & Laird's original comic series. Featuring the block-like representation of comic-colored art, as well as black-and-white variants of each character to mimic their black-and-white appearance in the early comics, the TMNT line has the staple characters of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo. In addition, the line has the Turtles' hockey-masked ally, Casey Jones, and arch nemesis, The Shredder, also recreated in their comic-book likenesses. Take a look at the figures below:

Today, TMNT are featured in the ongoing IDW comic book series, which has become massively popular in 2021, especially "The Last Ronin" series, which leaps into a dark future where there's only one Turtle left, fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic world. The latest Nickelodeon series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, was cancelled after two seasons, although a Netflix sequel film is slated to bow next year. In addition, Seth Rogen is producing an animated TMNT film for Nickelodeon that's setting up for an August 2023 debut. There's also another live-action reboot in the works from SNL's Colin Jost and his brother Casey Jost from Impractical Jokers.

It's hard to pinpoint what it is that makes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles such a popular brand, but the creative flavor put forth by such a diverse and odd assemblage of characters makes for some imaginative entertainment, and maybe that's enough. Having gone through so many incarnations, be it live-action or animated, TMNT have stood the test of time since their creation to be a nostalgic well that fans continue to return to. With so many projects currently running and more on the way, it's no mystery that Funko would tap this particular resource, which will surely be a collectible treat for uber fans who began their TMNT journey from the very start.

'Pokémon' Card Fan Art Gives 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Characters Parallel Abilities

A Pokémon fan has reimagined the characters of Avatar: The Last Airbender as Pokémon trading cards, giving them types, abilities, and moves.

A fan of both Pokémon and Avatar: The Last Airbender has created crossover art giving Aang and the Gaang some powerful Pokémon abilities. The artwork, in the form of trading cards, gives a taste of what it could look like if two of the most beloved franchises in the world teamed up for a TCG, something which fans of Pokémon and Avatar would likely love to see happen.

Pokémon trading cards have been one of the most popular trading card games since the very first set released in 1996. As well as offering a robust and competitive game, Pokémon TCG also appeals to collectors thanks to the varied rarities of individual cards. Some of the rarer cards in the game have been known to sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and while stumbling across a first edition Charizard isn't likely to happen nowadays, even the latest packs are highly sought-after. An increase in interest in the game over recent years has caused issues with scalpers reselling Pokémon cards, something which has been a problem with the recently-released Pokémon Celebrations anniversary cards.

Redditor and artist xhederaxhelix's Pokémon-inspired trading cards imagine what type many of the characters of Avatar: The Last Airbender would be in a mash-up TCG, looking into their abilities, stats, and attack moves. The creator imagines Airbender Aang as a Flying-type Pokémon with perfect base stats, the Libero ability, and attacks including Sky Attacks and Earthquake. Waterbender Katara is imagined as a Water-type with the Natural Cure ability, Earthbender Toph is a Ground-type with Compound Eyes, and Firebenders Zuko and Azula are both Fire-types. The full set of cards, featured on Reddit, includes 11 of the series characters, each with live-painted artwork based on official Avatar works.

The Pokémon cards' carefully selected stats and moves perfectly align with the characters of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and hint at what a real-life crossover TCG could look like. While some have questioned why Aang isn't a Fire-type, the artist has explained they believe that Flying is better suited to Aang, who rarely uses Fire-type moves. Unfortunately, an official collaboration between the IPs seems unlikely, though there seems to be a demand for it with the post receiving over 6,000 Reddit upvotes from those impressed with the fan art.

Avatar: The Last Airbender fans might not have an official trading card game, but there's still lots to look forward to. Aang has seen renewed love thanks to the recent release of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, a fighting game that pits classic Nickelodeon characters against each other across a series of stages, in a fashion similar to Super Smash Bros. Aang, Toph, and The Legend of Korra's Korra are all included in the roster, with more Nick characters to come via DLC. There's also a Avatar RPG game in the works and a Avatar mobile game in development.

New 'Middlemost Post' Episode Features 'SpongeBob' Easter Egg

Nickelodeon's new animated series Middlemost Post featured a SpongeBob SquarePants Easter Egg in its latest episode, "Darker Parker"!

In the episode, which premiered on Oct. 29, Parker makes snowcones for everybody in town and learns that saying “no” isn’t always a bad thing. In one scene, Parker J. Cloud and Angus are sitting in a doctor's waiting room, which happens to have a fish tank with a 'Pineapple under the sea' in it!

It's not too surprising that Middlemost Post featured a reference to SpongeBob, as the series is created by John Trabbic III, who worked on many episodes of SpongeBob.

In fact, that wasn't the only pop-culture reference in the new Middlemost Post episode! During the episode, it's shown that a emo-like Parker listens to bands such as Blinkin Park (a take on Lincoln Park) and Nine Inch Nimbus (a parody of Nine Inch Nails), as has a picture of a dog his wall that resembles that "this is fine" meme!
