Ultimate Camp-In Keeps Kids Affected by Childhood Cancer Connected

Northwestern Mutual and Lollipop Theater Network create unforgettable experience with the help of SpongeBob SquarePants and other celebrity camp counselors


MILWAUKEE, Sept. 2, 2020 -- Research1 shows that summer camps for kids with pediatric cancer can strengthen social skills and self-esteem and facilitate moments of needed respite. Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation and in collaboration with Lollipop Theater Network, recently hosted The Ultimate Camp-In, a one-of-a-kind at-home virtual camp experience bringing together hundreds of children and families affected by childhood cancer. Complete with star power from camp "counselors," the Ultimate Camp-In was a memorable day of connection and carefree adventure for families facing similar challenges.

By collaborating with Lollipop Theater Network, a non-profit dedicated to bringing movies and entertainment to children in hospitals due to chronic or life-threatening illnesses, the pastime of camp was transformed into a virtual experience enjoyed in homes across the country, creating connection in the age of social distancing.

The event kicked off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to support those affected, while also raising awareness and funds for research and cures. Children had the chance to meet the iconic voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, they also caught a sneak peek of a never-before-seen trailer of the upcoming movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, and excitedly asked Tom Kenny questions about what it's like to be a Nickelodeon celebrity.


The Ultimate Camp-In also featured live activities with other celebrities, from ballet lessons with International Prima Ballerina and NYC Ballet Principal Dancer Tiler Peck and a magic show and mindreading session with David Kwong, to drawing their favorite characters with Nickelodeon animators and decorating cupcakes with actress Monique Coleman of High School Musical fame and Cake Camp's Julie Gordon. Campers also enjoyed story time, making s'mores and joining other activities families know and love from traditional outdoor camps.

"As with our past camp events, this year's Ultimate Camp-In was rewarding and inspiring, and we feel fortunate to safely unite families impacted by childhood cancer virtually," said Eric Christophersen, president of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. "The pandemic has forced many traditions and in-person experiences to be postponed or canceled - but we remain committed to doing our part and creating community for these special families, something that is more important than ever. To provide a fun camp escape for these children and parents, even for a day, was an honor."


Peyton Richardson, a dynamic 18-year-old childhood cancer survivor joined as Camp-In emcee. No stranger to the trials and tribulations families undergo while on a childhood cancer journey, Richardson brought perspective and hope to the event, which connected children currently fighting cancer, survivors, siblings and loved ones who often lack supportive communities that understand their treatment and emotional needs.

"We were thrilled to partner with the Northwestern Mutual Foundation in order to create fun, interactive experiences for pediatric patients and their families amid these challenging times," said Evelyn Iocolano, executive director and co-founder of Lollipop Theater Network. "It was such an inspiring day, and in true Lollipop Theater Network fashion, delivered an escape for patients and their families to learn new skills and create lifelong memories!"


Running back Aaron Jones of the Green Bay Packers also stopped by to say hello as part of an ongoing partnership between the Northwestern Mutual Foundation and the Green Bay Packers' and the new My Cause My Cleats collaboration. Jones invited attendees to design a pair of cleats for him to wear this season. The collaboration is part of an annual NFL-wide effort in which hundreds of players wear customized cleats designed to showcase causes that are important to them during the same game week.

Northwestern Mutual launched its Childhood Cancer Program in 2012 to find better treatments and cures, provide family and patient support and aid those who struggle with the long-term effects of treatment. The program has contributed more than $30 million with the help of its employees and financial advisors nationwide and has funded more than 400,000 hours of research. Northwestern Mutual sees a future in which children and families can move beyond the fears of cancer and find happiness, because all kids deserve the chance to just be kids.

The cats are back in town! Nicktoons UK & Ireland will start to premiere all new episodes from the brand new second season of 44 Cats weekdays at 3:30pm from 3:30pm from Monday 14th September 2020!


Monday 14th September 2020 - A Cat-tastic Work of Art!: Abdul convinces Granny Pina to sign a paper allowing Winston to bulldoze her house and build a giant shopping mall.

Tuesday 15th September 2020 - Peppy's True Talent: Peppy iwants to become a circus artist just like her uncles Milky and Choc. Despite several attempts, Peppy can't perform as she wants. The Buffycats are ready to help!

Wednesday 16th September 2020 - Terry, the Firefighter Cat: Terry the pug, believing himself to be a cat, wants to become the firefighters' cat and does his very best in several situations to prove his bravery.

Thursday 17th September 2020 - A Very Special Girl!: Granny Pina is anxious and busy, because a very special guest is coming to visit: her granddaughter Isotta. The cats discover that young girl can talk to animals!

Friday 18th September 2020 - The Mystery of the Ghost Cat: Word has spread out that there's a ghost cat in town. A presence may be haunting the neighbourhood! This is definitely a mystery the Buffycats want to solve.

Nickelodeon is expanding the world of the number-one kids’ series, Henry Danger, with the launch of Danger Force, a brand-new original live-action spinoff premiering Friday 4th September 2020 on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland. Created and executive produced by Christopher J. Nowak (Henry Danger, Sam & Cat), the new series stars two of the most beloved characters from Henry Danger, “Ray/Captain Man” (Cooper Barnes) and “Schwoz” (Michael D. Cohen), and introduces four new superheroes-in-training as they team up to fight crime in their town of Swellview. Danger Force (13 episodes) is produced by Barnes and Jace Norman (Henry Danger), and production for the series is currently underway.


“A key part of our content strategy is to grow original franchises like Henry Danger by expanding their worlds through new characters and more high-stakes adventures,” said Brian Robbins, President, Kids & Family Entertainment, ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks. “We’re spinning off our Henry Danger mega-hit into Danger Force, where a new set of characters join members of the original cast for a wholly new take on this long-running series.”


In Danger Force, four kids--Chapa (Havan Flores), Miles (Terrence Little Gardenhigh), Mika (Dana Heath) and Bose (Luca Luhan)--are recruited to attend Swellview Academy for the Gifted (SW.A.G. for short), a school conceived by Captain Man and brought to life by Schwoz, after having been accidentally mutated in the fight to save Swellview. While there, the kids must learn to harness their frequently troublesome and sometimes uncontrollable superpowers as they begin to fight crime. Despite the dangerous circumstances of their new lives, the superheroes must keep their real identities a secret from both from their families and the villains who are out to destroy them.

Danger Force’s four brand-new superheroes-in-training were introduced in the final episodes of Henry Danger. Henry Danger is Nick’s longest running live-action sitcom, with 128 episodes across five seasons. For 2019 and year to date, the series is the number-one show for Kids 6-11 on all TV.

Production of Danger Force is overseen for Nickelodeon by Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content. Omar Camacho serves as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.

Danger Force made its world premiere on Nickelodeon USA on Saturday, March 28, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).

Comedian and actor Jay Pharoah (Saturday Night Live, 2 Minutes of Fame), will host Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered (previously Game Face). The remotely produced six-episode game show features panelists Darci Lynne and All That’s Lex Lumpkin and Gabrielle Nevaeh Green, who must guess the identities of virtually disguised celebrity guests.

Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered will launch on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland with the first two episodes, "Pizza In Your Game Face!" (series premiere) and "Zombies Eat Unicorns!", premiering Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September 2020 at 9:30am. Following launch, new episodes will continue to premiere Saturdays at 9:30am.

Each episode of Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered will feature celebrity guests whose true identities are hidden behind an animated 3D filter and voice changer, while the panel deciphers the mystery through rounds of Q&A, wacky trivia and hilarious game competitions. The first panelist to guess the star hiding behind the filter wins the round. Viewers can get in on the fun by downloading the show’s filters to transform into the same digital characters as their favorite celebrities.

Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered follows the success of the remotely produced series Group Chat with Annie and Jayden, hosted by Side Hustle co-stars Annie LeBlanc and Jayden Bartels.

Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered is executive produced by Pharoah and Shaina Farrow (Special Skills). Ben Pluimer (Legendary Dudas) also serves as executive producer. Nickelodeon is bringing the weird and wild world of Dorg Van Dango to viewers in the brand new animated series!

Dorg Van Dango is a Canada-Ireland co-production from WildBrain Ltd. (formally DHX Media) and Cartoon Saloon, in association with Family Channel in Canada and RTE in Ireland.

Dorg Van Dango will premiere on Nicktoons Global on Sunday 13th September 2020, airing on the Nicktoons channels in Central Eastern Europe, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia and more. The news follows Nickelodeon International signing a exclusive agreement with WildBrain to air the series on more than 100+ locally programmed Nickelodeon channels and branded block in over 500 million households across 170+ countries and territories worldwide, including in the UK, Australia, Scandinavia, France, Italy, Spain, Central Eastern Europe, Poland, Israel, Latin America, Asia (excluding China), India, the Middle East and North Africa. The series will roll out onto Nickelodeon channels and blocks globally throughout 2020. Commissioning broadcaster Family Channel will air the new series in Canada.

A brand new 2D-animated comedy for six to 11-year-olds, Dorg Van Dango (52 x 11') follows the adventures of Dorg, a regular teenager growing up in the town of Normill. But life takes a wild turn when four magical beings - THE MAGICALS - escape from Area 52 and crash-land in his back yard! Dorg takes them under his wing and disguises them as normal teenagers—but his new gang of best friends are anything but normal. Jet the cool unicorn, RD the goofy alien, Yooki the spooky ghost, and Patronella the weird witch all try to help Dorg navigate teenage life. Whenever he has a problem or chore, they’re always quick to offer a magical shortcut, but it’s not long before their magic gets out of control and things escalate in unexpected and hilarious ways. When the gang try to use their powers to undo the chaos, they only make more magical mayhem, leaving it up to Dorg to figure out a solution and save the day - often learning a thing or two about life and friendship along the way.

BURBANK, Calif.--September 01, 2020--Ramsey Naito has been named President of Nickelodeon Animation, it was announced today by ViacomCBS Kids & Family President Brian Robbins, to whom Naito will continue to report. In this position, Naito oversees the network’s animation content across all formats and platforms--spanning linear, digital, TV movies, theatrical motion pictures and SVOD. Formerly Executive Vice President of Animation Production and Development for the Nickelodeon Group, Oscar®-nominated producer Naito joined Nickelodeon in 2018 and has since overseen a renaissance at the studio of animation content and production in scale and creativity.

“Ramsey has led the transformation of our Animation Studio through the combination of impeccable creative vision and on-point business instincts, and her appointment to President reflects the scope of talent and soul she brings to our organization,” said Robbins. “In very short order, she has re-energized and rebuilt our animation teams while bringing in a string of new talent, storytellers, artists, production teams and voice actors to elevate Nick’s overall animation output and leadership position even further.”

Naito has been a driving force in bringing new projects, top talent and key partnerships to Nickelodeon Animation, to further bolster its content pipeline across preschool, kids, theatrical and its studio business. Notable projects include: the highly anticipated Star Trek: Prodigy from Nickelodeon and CBS Television Studios; best-selling book adaptations Real Pigeons Fight Crime, produced by James Corden and Ben Winston, and the critically acclaimed Big Nate; Tiny Chef in partnership with Imagine Kids+Family; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theatrical motion picture in partnership with Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, helmed by Jeff Rowe, and PAW Patrol: The Movie targeting a 2021 release; and the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years.

Building an inclusive and diverse culture at the animation studio and developing emerging and homegrown talent has been a strong point in Naito’s mission throughout her time at Nickelodeon. Naito has brought in more than 500 new employees across dozens of animation productions, and since employees began working remotely in March, over 150 new positions have been filled with studio productions operating virtually at 100%. Nickelodeon currently has over 40 animated shows in production across series, its studio business and movies, and is pacing to nearly double its production slate by end of 2020. Nickelodeon has promoted Ramsey Naito to president of Nickelodeon Animation. She was previously executive VP of animation production and development.

In the new post, Naito will oversee the network’s animation content across all formats and platforms: linear, digital, TV movies, theatrical motion pictures and SVOD. She continues to report to Brian Robbins, president of ViacomCBS Kids & Family.

Since Naito joined Nick in 2018 as executive VP, she has helped bring new projects, talent and key partnerships to the studio to build its pipeline of content, including overseeing Nickelodeon’s multi-year output deal with Netflix for original animated features and TV series based on Nick’s considerable library of characters as well as new IP for a global audience.

“Putting the right people together is especially important,” she said. “I see teams as families and, given that animation takes so long to make, whether you’re working on a series or a movie, you’re often with your teams for at least a year, if not three years. So building teams that are harmonious, that click, it’s so important. And it’s really important that people can communicate well together and be productive.”

Nickelodeon is certainly productive, even with everyone working from home. In fact, work at Nick hasn’t slowed at all since lockdown, with 46 projects currently in production remotely and more projects ramping up. Besides the nuts-and-bolts of remote production, the key to making it all work, she says, is empathy and communication.

“I think that the challenge is staying connected, “ she said. “Leading with empathy, being able to understand the conditions of people working remotely, helping everyone get through the work and being flexible is really, really important.”

With all the hiring and new projects in the works, it seems that one of the biggest problems Nick may face when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted is fitting everyone into the studio complex. And that’s a problem Naito is happy to have.

“When I started at the studio, it was a homecoming for me in many ways, but what was shocking was that we had this great studio [space], but it wasn’t full,” she said. “So now we’ve not only filled the studio, but so much so that now if we were going to move back to the studio next week, I don’t think we would fit.”

Going forward, Naito wants to build on the creator-driven culture she’s nurtured with an emphasis on inclusion and diversity. “When I started with the company, we focused on building content and we reinvigorated the culture to be creator-driven and creator-friendly and a place where artists could come and feel nurtured, where they could grow and that was inclusive and diverse across the board,” she said.

“It is a passion of mine to continue building that culture and making sure that the culture is inclusive and diverse. In terms of the people, we have hired and will continue to hire great talent that’s going to add to the fabric and the future of Nick with new great shows. And in terms of our content, I feel like expansion into studio business, it can really open the gateway for us to be able to build robust slates with the idea of making more,” she added.

“I think Nickelodeon being a world-class animation studio that has the flexibility for artists to move from preschool to movies, to shorts, and to really follow their creative interests, being able to build the studio to support that, that’s what I’m really excited about.”

Nicktoons Facts: The Wild Thornberrys was created by Gabor Csupo and Arlene Klasky with Steve Pepoon, David Silverman and Stephen Sustarsic, the third Klasky Csupo collaboration for Nickelodeon. On This Day in 1998: Cousin Skeeter Premiered on Nickelodeon


Never met a cousin like Skeeter!

Cousin Skeeter starred Robert Ri'chard as Bobby, a young boy whose life changed when his strange cousin Skeeter came to live with his family. With Skeeter's help, Bobby learns life lessons and tackles the ups and downs of growing up. The show also included Meagan Good as Bobby's friend Nina, Rondell Sheridan as Bobby's father Andre, and Angela Means as Bobby's mother Vanessa. Skeeter is portrayed by a hand puppet with Bill Bellamy providing his voice,[1] and Drew Massey performing the puppetry, assisted by Alice Dinnean. Within the show, Skeeter is treated like a regular human and no mention of him being a puppet is made. Although the series was shot in a single-camera format, the show used a laugh track. The series ran for 52 episodes over three seasons between September 1, 1998 – May 19, 2001. The show's theme song is an alternate version of 702's 1996 hit "Steelo", written by Missy Elliott.
