Nickelodeon is continuing the 20th anniversary celebration of SpongeBob SquarePants and the return of the anthology series Are You Afraid of the Dark? by inviting fans to hear from voice cast members and series executive producers on two panels at New York Comic Con 2019. Throughout the convention, attendees can experience a one-of-a-kind interactive SpongeBob SquarePants game inside The Krusty Krab at Nick’s booth (located in the Crystal Palace).

The tribute to one of the most iconic TV series and characters ever created continues with a SpongeBob Appreciation Day! panel, where voice cast members will conduct a table read of a fan-favorite episode, share highlights from 20 years and reveal what’s ahead, including a sneak peek of a brand-new half-hour special.

Nickelodeon is reimagining its chillingly beloved anthology Are You Afraid of the Dark? as a brand-new limited series premiering this October. Through three hour-long episodes, the series introduces an entirely new Midnight Society group of kids who tell a terrifying tale about the Carnival of Doom, only to have the events of the story come to life. The new members of the Midnight Society will share what to expect during an exclusive panel.

Nickelodeon President Brian Robbins Buys $6.982 Million Santa Barbara Ranch from Ellen DeGeneres

Nickelodeon President Brian Robbins has reportedly acquired a secluded Santa Barbara ranch from Ellen DeGeneres!

It seems hardly a week goes by when Ellen DeGeneres and her actress wife Portia de Rossi aren’t making all the real estate gossip columns for buying, listing or selling a high-priced residence. The property-mad pair are easily the busiest real estate agents in Tinseltown, going through fancy homes like ordinary folks go through toilet paper.

For the last couple months, the couple have been stuck in sell mode. Back in July, they sold their $23 million Carpinteria, Calif. oceanfront retreat to cosmetics mogul Jamie Kern Lima; just last week, they offloaded a $15.5 million Regency-style midcentury Beverly Hills mansion to fashion designer Rea Laccone.

And now, the couple have stealthily sold a semi-remote farmlette in the outskirts of Santa Barbara County, just a wee jaunt north of sandy Carpinteria. The 10.5-acre, decidedly pastoral spread was sold for $6.982 million and acquired, records reveal, by longtime Hollywood hotshot and current Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins, Variety reports.

The nearly $7 million sale price is a great deal of money, of course, but it’s also over $2 million less than the $8.995 million originally requested by DeGeneres and just $282,000 more than the $6.7 million she paid for the property back in August 2018, a relatively slim profit that quickly evaporates once renovation costs, hefty taxes and fat realtor fees are considered.

Renovations wise, DeGeneres did — as is her custom — give the entire property a remarkably quick yet extensive overhaul that transformed the undeniably charming if somewhat bedraggled ranch into a “hip Santa Barbara hideaway” with “an esoteric farmhouse and century-old barn” that together fuse “old world sensibility with the best in modern design.”

An electronic driveway gate plays bouncer for the sprawling compound, while vibrantly-colored wildflowers bloom along the pea gravel drive that winds up to the irregularly-shaped main house. A screened porch has views of the sprawling property, and the home’s front door opens into a lounge-like living and dining area with crisp white walls and a fireplace. There are 3 beds and 2.5 bathrooms in the main residence, each bath done up in a decidedly mod getup of white-and-black tile accents. The all-black kitchen contains a full suite of high-end designer appliances, plus granite countertops and custom cabinetry.

The lovely converted barn lies just across the way from the main residence and sports a full bathroom, potentially enabling the cavernous space to be used as a very cool guesthouse. Currently outfitted as a creative work studio, the space has chalky white walls and could also function as a great home office or storage space.

Ancient oaks and broad sweeps of grassy lawn cover much of the property; directly behind the main house, tucked into a hilly knoll, lies a lagoon-style swimming pool and inground spa.

For the moment, DeGeneres and de Rossi continue to maintain a $27 million Bali-inspired estate near Montecito; their main residence, however, is the $42.5 million English Tudor-style mansion they bought from Adam Levine a couple months back.

As for Robbins, he’s also no slouch in the property game department. Back in late 2017, he coughed up just over $12.4 million for a Tudor-style mansion in Hancock Park. The following year, he sold a stately residence in the leafy Brentwood Park nabe for just over $15 million to Coldplay manager Phil Harvey.

Suzanne Perkins of Compass and Riskin Partners of Village Properties held the Santa Barbara ranch listing.

Brian Robbins was named president of Nickelodeon in October 2018. Before becoming the chief of Nickelodeon, he served President of Paramount Pictures’ Paramount Players division.

Prior to leading Paramount Players, Robbins co-founded the multi-platform media company Awesomeness in 2012 and served as Chief Executive Officer. Robbins also co-founded the production company Tollins/Robbins Productions and was the Founder and President of Varsity Pictures. In this role, he executive produced numerous television hits for teens and young audiences, including the popular Nickelodeon series Kenan & Kel and All That, the latter of which Robbins adapted into the Nickelodeon feature film Good Burger. Robbins also executive produced Blue Mountain State for Spike TV (now Paramount Network) and produced and/or directed the Paramount films Varsity Blues, Coach Carter and Hardball. His other credits include the television series Smallville and One Tree Hill for CW, and Disney Channel’s Sonny with a Chance and So Random. His film credits include Disney’s Wild Hogs and The Shaggy Dog; DreamWorks’ Norbit and A Thousand Words; and Sony Pictures’ Radio.

Viacom acquired Awesomeness in July 2018.

'Ricky Zoom' to Rev Onto Nickelodeon USA on Monday, September, 9 2019

Update (9/5) - Below is Entertainment One and Nickelodeon's official press release announcing the exciting news!:

Entertainment One Announces Premiere of New Animated Series Ricky Zoom on Nickelodeon

New action-packed preschool series debuts Monday, Sept. 9

NEW YORK – Parents and children alike will have the opportunity to race off into the wheeling world of Ricky Zoom, the brand-new CGI-animated action-adventure series premiering Monday, Sept. 9, on Nickelodeon. Hailing from Entertainment One (eOne), the studio behind global phenomenon Peppa Pig and hit show PJ Masks, the new preschool series follows Ricky, a little red rescue bike, and his loyal Bike Buddies as they zoom around their Wheelford community helping others, trying out new stunts, and learning to stand on their own two wheels. Ricky Zoom, which consists of 26 half-hour episodes, will air weekdays at 12:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

In the series premiere, “Flat Out Awesome/Ricky’s Rescue Coaching Badge,” Loop gets a flat tire and Ricky and the Bike Buddies must work together to make sure he doesn’t miss the Steel Awesome stunt show. Then, Ricky is eager to get his rescue badge.

Meet the Bike Buddies along for the ride:

  • Ricky Zoom – A little rescue bike that loves to go fast, Ricky is a loyal friend and natural leader of the Bike Buddies.
  • Loop Hoopla – An adventurous dirt bike with a happy-go-lucky attitude, Loop loves having fun and trying crazy new stunts.
  • Scootio Wizzbang – Scootio is bright, brainy and never afraid to speak her mind. She loves using her technical genius and gadgets to solve problems.
  • DJ Rumbler – DJ has a huge heart and would do anything for his friends. He also has a super toolbox and a robotic arm, so there is nothing he cannot build—or knock down.

Developed by Emmy Award-winning creator Alexander Bar and production house Frog Box, Ricky Zoom highlights the importance of friendship, resourcefulness, community and teamwork. Celebrating differences is one of many zoomtastic themes within the series.

The official Ricky Zoom app, Welcome to Wheelford, is available today for free on iOS and Android platforms. Featuring fun mini-games and interactive playgrounds for kids to zoom into adventure and explore the world of Wheelford, the app allows audiences the ability to engage with the Bike Buddies on and off the screen, in addition to active social channels.

For more information on Ricky Zoom, please visit the series website and get up to speed on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Entertainment One (eOne) today announced that Nickelodeon will come aboard as a top-tier distribution partner for Ricky Zoom in the U.S.!

Nickelodeon USA will premiere Ricky Zoom, a brand-new CGI action comedy adventure series all about friendship, community and learning to stand on your own two wheels, on Monday, September 9, 2019 in the Nick Jr. preschool block! Following launch, new episodes will air regularly on Nickelodeon.

Zoom into adventure with Ricky Zoom! Built for speed, Ricky Zoom is a little red rescue motorbike who shares his experiences with his loyal and enthusiastic Bike Buddies Loop, Scootio and DJ. Together they race around the sports track, try new stunts at the park and zoom into every adventure!

Ricky lives in Wheelford, a two-wheeled town tailor-made for bikes. The close-knit community is always on hand to guide Ricky on the road to becoming a rescue bike. Whether help comes from mum or dad, the town mechanic or local police bike, Ricky and the Bike Buddies have all the support they need as they learn to stand on their own two wheels. Zoomtastic!

The producers of PJ Masks, Entertainment One (eOne), Frog Box and Parisian prodco animation studio TeamTO are joined by coproduction partner, the Italian prodco Maga Animation, to introduce a show that’s all about friendship, family, community, resilience and learning to stand on your own two wheels. The series is produced by the same production team who make PJ Masks.

Nickelodeon will join will join a top tier line up of partners and is set to launch series 1 on 9th September.

A growing list of global FTA, PAYTV and VOD platforms have already lined up to debut the series cross multiple territories, including Super RTL (Germany), Clan TV (Spain), Gulli (France), RAI (Italy), Youku (China), and Discovery Kids (Latin America), with further deals in the pipeline.

Alongside a growing broadcast presence, eOne is assembling a major global consumer products program which will be spearheaded by leading global master toy partner, TOMY International, with a range of products set to debut at retail in selected markets from spring 2020. eOne is also planning to expand this program with apparel shortly after the CP hits shelves.

“The U.S. will play a key role in the rollout of Ricky Zoom around the world,” said eOne’s Monica Candiani, executive vice-president, international content sales, Family & Brands. “Securing a broadcaster of this calibre in this crucial market is a reflection of the high quality animation and storytelling that people have come to expect from an eOne show and we’re delighted to strengthen our long standing relationship with Nickelodeon.”

“There are quite a few vehicle shows out there, so I wanted to make sure we had something that would feel unique,” says eOne president of family and brands Olivier Dumont.

“We didn’t want a show about racing, or anything that confined the bikes to a track. We really wanted something about daily life stories that will resonate with our audience; stories about growing up and the family unit.”

Dumont says the scope of the show is a significant step up compared to past projects as its stories follow not just Ricky but the entire Wheelford community, including his parents and sister, his three best friends and their families. Parisian prodco TeamTO—which has previously partnered with eOne on PJ Masks—developed the world of Ricky Zoom. The first season explores themes of practicing skills, supporting friends, spending time with family and overcoming fears.

“It’s a very rich world, a vast world with quite a few characters,” Dumont says.

Ricky Zoom (52 x 11-minute episodes) builds on eOne’s successful slate of preschool properties that includes award-winning shows Peppa Pig, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom, and PJ Masks.

In anticipation of the broadcast launch, eOne is also readying the release of the brand’s first official app. It will launch in line with broadcast dates to give fans the opportunity to engage with the characters between episodes. Ricky Zoom: Welcome to Wheelford will feature mini-games and interactive playgrounds so kids can explore the imaginary world of Wheelford from the show.

Ben Giroux Goes 'Back to the '80s' in Viral Video Sequel

Ben Giroux and Jensen Reed took the internet by storm with their music video “Back to the '90s” in 2017.

This year, the duo went back even farther. Their sequel, “Back to the '80s,” takes viewers on a trip to the decade of tight pants and crazy hairstyles.

“We started to build this global audience of people that associated our music/comedy partnership with nostalgia,” Giroux told the Phoenix New Times. “One of the things we kept hearing when we put the video out was, ‘Do one for the '80s!’”

So Giroux, who is a Phoenix native, and hip-hop artist Reed traded their Mossimo shirts and JNKOs for aerobics leotards and big hair to make the sequel “Back to the '80s.”

“It was a massive undertaking for the music itself,” the comedian says. “And then when we went into production, it felt like an even more enormous undertaking because we essentially set up entire movie sets.”

The team built 50 unique set pieces like the library from The Breakfast Club and Tony Montana's office from Scarface. They even found a movie-scale replica of the DeLorean from Back to the Future.

“It was like a film student’s dream,” describes Giroux.

Giroux, Reed, and the production team filmed “Back to the '80s” in six days, jumping from one scene to the next while re-creating the '80s. It took nearly six months to edit and compile.

The video, which was released last week, took nearly two years to complete. It begins on our same young Gen Z boy from “Back in the '90s” in his suit standing in line at school with fellow students waiting in line to get into the school dance. As the camera pans up the line to the front, students say classic things you would hear any Gen Z child say, like “FOMO” and “Tag me in your story.”

After the girl at the front of the line, Felicia (played by Giroux's Henry Danger co-star Riele Downs; Sean Ryan Fox from Henry Danger also makes a cameo), asks what growing up in the '80s was like, Giroux and Reed press play for their classic VCR-quality tribute. From Ghostbusters and Pee Wee’s Playhouse to E.T., viewers are taken through a nostalgic spiral of iconic movie scenes, songs, and lifestyles. The song’s chorus switches back to an '80s-themed concert where Giroux and Reed are jamming on stage with an audience of friends and family rocking out.

“Everybody was having a great time and howling with laughter,” says Giroux. “We had 200 people of our friends and family that rocked out with two industrial confetti cannons.”

Because Giroux was born in the '80s, there probably won’t be a “Back to the '70s,” but for those who watched till the end of the credits, an abandoned classic iPod teases that the duo may jump to the 2000s for an encore.

Giroux also teases "Back to the 90s - Part 2" in the comments on YouTube.
