On This Day in 2010: Victorious Premieres on Nickelodeon

On this day 10 years ago Victorious premiered on Nickelodeon! In honor of the Victorious premiere anniversary, here's Tori making it shine!

Can you believe it’s been 10 years since Victorious aired for the first time!?

Victoria Justice joined the rest of the cast in commemorating the special anniversary with some heartfelt messages and photos.

“10 years of Victorious!!! It’s actually a little crazy typing that, because in a lot of ways it feels like it was just yesterday. I’ll never forget how I cried at our very first table read. I cried because I was sooo frickin’ happy!!! This show changed my life & I’m so grateful I got to share it with this amazing, insanely talented group of people. We share memories together that I look back fondly on to this day & will always cherish,” Victoria wrote.

She added, “Thank you so much to all the fans who continue to love and support our show. Makes me real happy to see that it’s still enjoyed by so many of you. Thank you @danwarp for creating this magic πŸ™πŸΌ♥️πŸ™πŸΌ. I love you guys!!! #grateful”

Ariana Grande also chimed in, writing, “i’m sorry for the mushiness but…. jus want to say how grateful i will always be for being on this show and for those years of my life. i couldn’t have spent my teenage years with a better, more funny, talented group of human beings. i really loved playing cat valentine (even though sometimes people think i actually still speak and act like that and her essence will lovingly haunt me til i die) …. i miss getting in trouble w my friends the school room and trying not to laugh when we weren’t supposed to on set. i even miss waking up with red hair dye stained pillows. thank u @danwarp and to my cast mates for some of the most special years of my life and for bringing all of us into each other’s lives. happy anniversary!”

Their co-stars Daniella Monet, Avan Jogia, Matt Bennett, Liz Gillies and Leon Thomas also shared their thoughts in posts and in the comment section.

Fans continue to enjoy Victorious even 10 years later — just ask Kourtney Kardashian, who left a comment on Grande’s post. “We watch Cat Valentines daily over here πŸ™‹πŸ»‍♀️ and i thought that was your real voice 😬❤️,” the mom of three admitted.

Justice commented on Grande’s post, writing: “Such a special time. Memories I will always cherish. Love u guys πŸ™πŸΌ”

Other cast members also shared in the nostalgia and celebration, including Avan Jogia, who wrote “Love yah,” and Daniella Monet, who played Trina Vega on the show: “Love you, and this, and all that we shared. Such special years 🧑.”

JoJo Siwa Reveals Why it's Especially Dangerous for Her to Leave the House

JoJo Siwa, like billions of other people around the world, hasn’t left the house in quite a while – not even to get groceries!

The 16-year-old entertainer explained that her parents and brother have been doing all their essential errands because she fears if she goes out in public, she could accidentally cause a commotion, putting others at risk.

“I haven’t left at all because the public, you know, little kids, they can’t help it but they run right up and give me a hug. I love that and I want to give them all big hugs but unfortunately at this time, that’s just not okay. So now I’ve been just staying in. It’s now day 12,” JoJo told SiriusXM’s Jenny McCarthy.

JoJo, who is currently working on a new Nickelodeon movie, recently had to postpone the latest leg of her Nickelodeon’s JoJo Siwa D.R.E.A.M. The Tour due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

In case you missed it, JoJo was recently revealed as the T-Rex on the latest season of The Masked Singer.

Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan premiered on Saturday, Feb. 29 to the largest Live +3 lifts for a series premiere on Nickelodeon in three years.

Executive produced, directed and written by Perry, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, Young Dylan (Gilmer), an aspiring hip-hop star, moves in unannounced, and a clash of styles ensues. New episodes currently air Saturday nights at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

The rising young actor and hip hop artist is also known for his appearances and rap performances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and is also a frequent correspondent for DeGeneres’ EllenTube.

Gilmer learned he would be starring in his own series last October when Perry made a surprise visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show when Gilmer was a guest and made the announcement.

Most recently Gilmer did a guest appearance and performance on the Nickelodeon series, All That.

He continues to be repped by The Green Room’s Sherry Kayne, and attorney Chris Abramson of Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.

ViacomCBS Braces for COVID-19 Fiscal Impact

The immediate fiscal future looks shaky for the conglomerate, despite increased viewership. To reach kids, Nickelodeon is prepping a special hosted by Kristen Bell.

ViacomCBS has updated its fiscal outlook for the year in a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on March 26, stating it expects the impacts of COVID-19 — from the postponement of theatrical releases to production delays — to be “material” to the newly merged company’s financial standing. It's currently unknown whether the theatrical release of the new SpongeBob SquarePants film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run will be delayed.

The “magnitude” of the impacts will depend on the duration and extent of the pandemic, ViacomCBS reported in its filing, in addition to the “impact of federal, state, local and foreign governmental actions and consumer behavior.”

“Due to the evolving and uncertain nature of this situation, we are not able to estimate the full extent of the negative impact on ViacomCBS’ operating results, cash flow and financial position — including advertising and filmed entertainment revenues– particularly over the near to medium term,” the company stated.

As of March 26, it has not drawn from its US$3.5 billion revolving credit facility.

ViacomCBS reports increased viewership across its broadcast and cable properties, and is “utilizing its deep library of content to mitigate in part the impact of those delays.”

The media conglomerate is also working proactively to offset a portion of anticipated revenue losses through “cost-saving initiatives,” though it did not elaborate on what form those measures may take.

It still expects to achieve US$750 million of “full run-rate merger related cost synergies” over the next three years, in addition to garnering around 16 million domestic streaming subscribers in pay and approximately 30 million monthly active users on Pluto TV in 2020.

This statement comes as Nickelodeon tries to capture on an increased linear viewership audience. The kidcaster launched its preschool Noggin SVOD service on Apple TV in more than 25 territories with a free seven-day trial.

It also launched the new “#KidsTogether” campaign to help children stay healthy and active while they are out of school. As part of the campaign, Nickelodeon is rolling out shot-form digital and linear content featuring the network’s brands teaching kids about social distancing and hand washing.

Taking that initiative even further, today Nickelodeon announced it’s premiering a new hour-long special on March 30 dubbed #KidsTogether: The Nickelodeon Town Hall. Hosted by Kristen Bell (The Good Place, Frozen 2), the TV event will include a performance by Alicia Keys and appearances by Charli D’Amelio, Josh Gad, Kel Mitchell, Kenan Thompson and Ciara Wilson. The special will address kids’ questions and concerns with tips from medical experts including Dr. Nadine Burke Harris (California Surgeon General) and Dr. Vivek H. Murthy (former US Surgeon General).

It will be simulcast across Nickelodeon, TeenNick and Nicktoons, as well as be made available on Nick On Demand, Nickelodeon YouTube, the Nick App and the Nick Pluto TV channel following the on-air premiere. It will also premiere on Nick’s international channels.

Below is ViacomCBS's statement in full:

ViacomCBS Statement on COVID-19

On March 26, 2020, ViacomCBS filed a Form 8-K with the following statement that updates the company’s 2020 outlook in light of global concerns about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

2020 Outlook

Global concerns about the coronavirus disease 2019 (“COVID-19”) have impacted the macroeconomic environment, as well as ViacomCBS Inc.’s (“ViacomCBS” or the “Company”) business. As a result of COVID-19 and measures to prevent its spread, ViacomCBS is withdrawing its previous guidance as to its 2020 financial results. While ViacomCBS has experienced production delays, the Company has seen increased viewership across its broadcast and cable properties, and is utilizing its deep library of content to mitigate in part the impact of those delays. The Company is also working proactively to offset a portion of anticipated revenue losses through costsavings initiatives.

ViacomCBS is reaffirming its expectation to achieve $750 million of full run-rate merger-related cost synergies over the next three years. The Company is also reaffirming its expectation to have approximately 16 million domestic streaming subscribers in pay and approximately 30 million monthly active users on Pluto TV as it exits 2020. The Company this week has also announced multi-year agreements to renew CBS affiliations with local stations across the country.

Still, the impact of COVID-19 on ViacomCBS’ businesses – including the postponement of theatrical releases domestically and internationally, cancellation or rescheduling of sports events for which the Company had broadcast rights, and production delays in television and filmed entertainment programming – could be material to the Company’s operating results, cash flows and financial position. The magnitude of the impacts will depend on the duration and extent of the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of federal, state, local and foreign governmental actions and consumer behavior in response to the pandemic and such governmental actions. Due to the evolving and uncertain nature of this situation, we are not able to estimate the full extent of the negative impact on ViacomCBS’ operating results, cash flows and financial position – including advertising and filmed entertainment revenues – particularly over the near to medium term.

Liquidity

As previously disclosed in Note 8 “Debt” to the consolidated financial statements in ViacomCBS’ Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2019, ViacomCBS has access to a committed $3.5 billion revolving credit facility with a maturity in January 2025 which is available for general corporate purposes and to support commercial paper outstanding, if any. As of December 31, 2019, the Company had no outstanding borrowings under the revolving credit facility, $699 million of commercial paper outstanding, and $632 million of cash on its balance sheet. As of March 26, 2020, the Company has not drawn on its revolving credit facility and has approximately $932 million of short-term indebtedness, including $732 million of commercial paper outstanding and $200 million of short-term bank borrowings. The Company has upcoming corporate debt maturities in the next 12 months of $300 million in February 2021 and $500 million in March 2021.

Cautionary Statement Concerning Forward-Looking Statements

This communication contains both historical and forward-looking statements. All statements that are not statements of historical fact are, or may be deemed to be, forward-looking statements. Forward-looking statements reflect the Company’s current expectations concerning future results, objectives, plans and goals, and involve known and unknown risks, uncertainties and other factors that are difficult to predict and which may cause future results, performance or achievements to differ. These risks, uncertainties and other factors are discussed in the risk factors disclosed in the Company’s Annual Report on Form 10-K filed with the SEC on February 20, 2020 and also include the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, as noted in this communication. Other risks may be described in the Company’s news releases and filings with the SEC, including but not limited to the Company’s reports on Form 10-Q and Form 8-K. From The Hollywood Reporter:

ViacomCBS Raises $2.5 Billion in New Debt Amid Virus Crisis

The studio is picking up fresh cash after reporting the new coronavirus pandemic could have a "material" impact on its financial results.
ViacomCBS on Friday said it has raised $2.5 billion with an eye to reducing its debt obligations.

The Hollywood studio, led by CEO Bob Bakish, is the latest entertainment industry company to raise fresh cash amid the fallout from the coronavirus crisis. ViacomCBS said it agreed to sell $1.25 billion in 4.750 percent senior notes due 2025, and another $1.25 billion in 4.950 percent senior notes due 2031.

The studio added it aimed to use the net proceeds from the new debt offering "for general corporate purposes, which may include repayment of outstanding indebtedness."

ViacomCBS earlier on Friday said the new coronavirus pandemic could have a "material" impact on its results, withdrew its 2020 financial guidance and said it was planning "cost savings initiatives" to offset some of the expected revenue losses.

"Global concerns about the coronavirus disease 2019 have impacted the macroeconomic environment, as well as ViacomCBS Inc.’s business," ViacomCBS said its statement.

"While ViacomCBS has experienced production delays, the company has seen increased viewership across its broadcast and cable properties, and is utilizing its deep library of content to mitigate in part the impact of those delays," the studio added.

- I’m an athlete and I love the excitement of competition. Being on a team is the best!

- I’ve been tumbling and doing cheer since I was six. I also love softball, catching and 3rd base are my favorites spots. My sister taught me to catch and my mom taught us both to play.

- I love to do anything outside. Fishing with my family is one of my favorites.

- My grandparents have been a big part of my life and they have taught me to bake, grow a garden and can fruits and vegetables.

- I got a blue ribbon one year at the county fair for my homemade bread.

- I LOVE animals, all of them. My family raises chickens, and every year I have to get in the chicken house and pull all the snakes out.

- My dad is in the military, so we have moved a lot, and Japan was my favorite station. He has had to miss a lot of things but he’s always supporting me.

- Math is my favorite subject… 😁 No it really is!

- I have a blind cat named Bob Lee.

- Vacation Bible School is one of the things I look forward to every summer.

From Celeb Secrets:

Here’s Everything You Need to Know About Nickelodeon’s New Series “Danger Force”

The ‘Henry Danger’ spinoff features four new kids with superpowers and premieres this Saturday, March 28th at 8PM.

Henry Danger may have ended on Saturday, however, Nickelodeon‘s longest-running TV show isn’t going away just yet.

Last month, the network announced that Henry Danger was getting a spinoff called Danger Force, which features familiar faces Captain Man (Cooper Barnes) and Schwoz (Michael D. Cohen) and introduces four new students enrolled at Swellview Academy for the Gifted (SW.A.G.).

In Danger Force, four kids – Chapa (Havan Flores), Miles (Terrence Little Gardenhigh), Mika (Dana Heath) and Bose (Luca Luhan) – are recruited to attend Swellview Academy for the Gifted (SW.A.G. for short), a school conceived by Captain Man and brought to life by Schwoz, after having been accidentally mutated in the fight to save Swellview.

While there, the kids must learn to harness their frequently troublesome and sometimes uncontrollable superpowers as they begin to fight crime. Despite the dangerous circumstances of their new lives, the superheroes must keep their real identities a secret from both from their families and the villains who are out to destroy them.

Celeb Secrets sat down with new cast members Havan, Terrence, Dana and Luca to hear about their character’s superpowers, their favorite memories from filming, behind-the-scenes secrets and more.

HAVAN FLORES

Celeb Secrets: Danger Force is a spinoff of the iconic Nickelodeon series Henry Danger — were you fans of the show growing up?

Havan Flores: “No, my family is very outdoorsy so we never watched a lot of TV, but I binge watched it once I found out I was auditioning for it. It’s really funny!”

CS: Before Danger Force airs, fans can see you on the last few episodes of Henry Danger. What was it like working with everyone from the original cast? Did they give you any advice while filming?

HV: “They were all so nice and so much fun to be around. They all went out of their way to make me feel welcome. They just said relax and have fun.”

CS: Each of your characters have their own superpowers. Can you tell us more about them?

HV: “Chapa can control energy, well kind of! She uses her hands and her mind to zap things.”

CS: If you had one superpower in real life, which one would you want?

HV: “If I had one it’d be either shape shifting or lightning. I really like my power.”

What’s the one thing you’re really looking forward for fans to see when they watch the show?

HV: “How funny and cool everything still is, I want them to enjoy it.”

CS: Since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have any funny stories from behind the scenes that we wouldn’t know about?

HV: “No, no spilling the beans here. Watch us and see how amazing the writers and everyone involved is! πŸ˜‰”

TERRENCE LITTLE GARDENHIGH

Celeb Secrets: Danger Force is a spinoff of the iconic Nickelodeon series Henry Danger — were you fans of the show growing up?

Terrence Little Gardenhigh: “Yes, I have been watching it since I was about seven or eight years old. I used to wonder what it would be like to hang out in the mancave, running around and touching all the buttons!”

CS: Before Danger Force airs, fans can see you on the last few episodes of Henry Danger. What was it like working with everyone from the original cast? Did they give you any advice while filming?

TLG: “Oh man, it was so crazy. I had to get my nerves together first because I couldn’t believe I was with Coop and Jace. They told me to relax and go with the flow, and that it was going to be cool even if I messed up my lines. I wanted to be perfect, but some great stuff came from not being perfect.”

CS: Each of your characters have their own superpowers. Can you tell us more about them?

TLG: “My power is teleportation. I can go anywhere in the world and that’s the problem. I don’t always know where I am going to end up going.”

CS: If you had one superpower in real life, which one would you want?

TLG: “Superhuman speed and strength. A bit like Black Panther, mixed with Hulk. No, that would be crazy. No wait, maybe Black Panther mixed with Thor. Now you have me really thinking about this, lol!”

CS: What’s the one thing you’re really looking forward for fans to see when they watch the show?

TLG: “How much fun we all are having together. The mistakes and learning about each other and from each other. We are all relatable characters, as I see traits and mannerisms from people I know in real life.”

Since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have any funny stories from behind the scenes that we wouldn’t know about?

TLG: “Well I can say that there is a lot of farting going on behind the scenes and I do a lot of the farting. However, I will admit I am not the only one. You can see the look on the face of the one who did it, because their eyes get really big and they walk away quickly to an area that they don’t usually go in. They just want to leave the stink behind so they don’t get blamed. It’s just so funny.”

DANA HEATH

Celeb Secrets: Danger Force is a spinoff of the iconic Nickelodeon series Henry Danger — were you fans of the show growing up?

Dana Heath: “I was a huge fan of Henry Danger. I loved the action, the dynamics between the characters and the hilarious plot and plot twists.”

LL: “I was lucky enough to be there during the last month of the show. The whole cast and crew was so welcoming and cool from the very beginning. I really loved how much we all laughed together on set. Everyone is really close and I think that has something to do with the success of the show.”

CS: Each of your characters have their own superpowers. Can you tell us more about them?

LL: “Bose’s superpower is telekinesis. He does not yet have full control of his powers. That’s all I can tell you. You will have to stay tuned to find out more!”

LL: “I would want the power to be invisible because I could use it to fight crime and, as a bonus, I could scare my friends by sneaking up on them!”

CS: What’s the one thing you’re really looking forward for fans to see when they watch the show?

LL: “I cannot wait for the fans to get to know Bose. I want people to laugh at who he is and all of the funny things he does.”

CS: Since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have any funny stories from behind the scenes that we wouldn’t know about?

LL: “We all have handshakes and inside jokes. We are always looking at memes when we’re not filming. I’m really glad we’re this close already. Cooper and Michael are both so nice and so funny. We also joke around with the writers, directors and other crew members.”

I was first bit by the acting bug after participating in commercials for the Boys and Girls Club of Lacey, Washington. I loved it!

I started growing my locks because I wanted to have powers like NFL running back Marshawn Lynch. At the time, Lynch was playing with the Seattle Seahawks and nicknamed “Beast Mode.”

I was able to read at the age of 2.

I started a dance group at the Boys and Girls Club because I was the only boy brave enough to dance with a group of girls.

My favorite music artists are J Cole, Da Baby and Drake.

One of the most embarrassing things that has happened to me, once in public school, I forgot to wear my belt and my pants fell down during recess. The entire class saw. I was embarrassed, but I just pulled my pants up and acted like nothing happened.

My favorite sport is basketball. I try to play every day when I get home from work.

Favorite subject in school is Math because I catch on very quickly. Solving a math problem, especially triple and quadruple digits, is really satisfying to me and it feels really good.

I like to collect action figures. Preferably Mezco action figures and Amazing Yamaguchi. I like positioning them, and then taking pictures!

A lot of people confuse my name because they think “Little” is my middle name. My middle name is actually William and I was named after the doctor that helped deliver me. My last name is really ‘Little Gardenhigh‘!

Kids content and online VOD consumption spiked during COVID-19 lockdown

BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) India and Nielsen jointly launched today, 27 March, a special report- COVID-19 IMPACT: WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE TV & SMARTPHONE LANDSCAPE, to understand the changes in consumption behaviours of TV and Smartphones, given the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

The Coronavirus outbreak has created an unprecedented situation and temporary slowdown all across the globe. With 21 days lockdown in place, as declared by PM Narendra Modi on 24 March, people of India have quarantined themselves at home till 14 April. This declaration news alone garnered an unprecedented viewership of 197 million
people watching it on television across the country.

Many organisations have shut down operations partially or fully, while others have advised its employees to work from home (WFH). With outdoor access and entertainment being restricted at the moment, citizens have naturally turned towards indoor entertainment and unlimited content consumption.

Hence, BARC India, which is the official currency on Television Measurement in India and Nielsen, which runs a 12000 strong smartphone panel passively capturing smartphone behaviour, collaborated to track the nature of content consumption across genres.

Presenting the report jointly with Nielsen Global Media South Asia country leader Dolly Jha, BARC India chief executive officer Sunil Lulla said in the webinar, “These are unfortunate and unprecedented times. Working closely with Nielsen, we bring for our customers and stake-holders, this very significant and important update, on change in content and advertising consumption behaviour, with a significant population at home. We will report soon enough, the impact of total lockdown. Our respective brave teams are working from home, round the clock to ensure the TV measurement currency, continues uninterrupted.”

Television viewing is an integral part of the Indian ethos. An average Indian is known to spend a considerable number of hours every day on TV. So, it is quite expected that sudden and forced confinement will lead to changes in TV consumption behaviour.

During the COVID-19 disruption period (16 to 22 March), Kids genre surged with 20 per cent of daily average reach, second only to News, which stood at 64 per cent daily average reach. Movies followed the kids genre with 10 per cent of daily average reach, contributing to the growth in TV viewing.

Apart from the animated kids content on TV that are carefully crafted and curated by kids broadcasters, kids during this sudden homebound period, also consumed a lot of news being around their parents and elders. While they consumed 40 per cent of content targeted to them, they consumed 83 per cent of news, which is remarkable.

Also as BARC India reports, within the time period of 14 to 20 March, Nickelodeon remains the defending champions of the ‘Top 5 Channels’, followed by POGO, Sonic Nickelodeon, Sony YAY! and Cartoon Network.

In the ‘Top 5 programmes’ category Nick and Sonic again rules with all its shows ruling the charts. Clearly Motu Patlu and Rudra have reigned the hearts of the younger audience.

Besides TV viewing, another thing that keeps people hooked, in fact much more than TV, is a smartphone. Gone are the days when a mobile phone was used solely for communication. People today depend on their smartphones not just for social interactions, but also for entertainment, online video consumption, banking and financial transactions, purchase of daily need goods like groceries, personal care to durables. It is but natural that this period of forced confinement would also bring some change in the way people use their smartphones.

The online video on demand sector has grown exponentially in India over the past couple of years. Maximum video content is streamed and watched on smartphones. So much so that, global streaming powerhouse, Netflix introduced a mobile-only plan for Rs. 199 for the Indian market in late 2019.

As the BARC and Nielsen report further states, the online VOD (streaming) sector witnessed a whopping 96 per cent users per week with 219 minutes spent per user per week, which is a 3 per cent increase during the COVID-19 disruption period.

Overall, the time spent on smartphone in week one of COVID-19 disruption has increased by 1.5 hours.

There have reports that suggest, 69 per cent of internet users had used one or more entertainment or video apps during the last one month. Indians spent 3000 million hours on entertainment consumption in 2019, and video viewers increased by 16 per cent to reach 378 million, which is around 96 per cent of smartphone owners and they are expected to grow to 488 million by 2022. So, though COVID-19 has acted as a catalyst in the accelerated growth of VOD consumption on smartphones, its growth rate has been remarkable. However, 94 per cent of those who consumed content online also subscribed to linear television services.

Commenting on the tremendous smartphone usage during the COVID disruption period, Jha told Animation Xpress, “The usual time spent is about 220 to 240 minutes in a week in this category. What we have done is looked at last week’s data and tried to see and find out how it has spiked or changed versus January, which we’re using as a reference as the pre-COVID disruption period. In the OTT space, we’ve a big sporting app sitting there. We did have sporting events in January, therefore when you compare it with now, the kind of increase we’re seeing is that of 3 per cent. But if we have to disregard that particular period and take out January, and compare it with the preceding week, that’s the week earlier to the last week we have taken as the COVID disruption period, increase is going to be a little higher.”

She also added that news consumed on any OTT platform is also calculated and considered under the OTT consumption and viewership.

So while we’re all quarantined at home, entertainment around these sectors are surely keeping audience engaged and providing them respite amidst all the chaos and anxieties.
