From THQ Nordic's official announcement:

Explore seven distinct worlds and don more than 30 cosmic skins to rescue the universe of the brand new adventure SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, available on PC, PlayStation™, Nintendo Switch™ and Xbox One.

###

During its 10th Anniversary Showcase, THQ Nordic officially revealed SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, which appears to be full of reverence for the long-running cartoon's golden age. Set to the tune of "Sweet Victory," the announcement trailer features SpongeBob as a caveman, wearing his karate gloves, and riding a seahorse through the aquatic wild west. The game's interdimensional plot is made possible thanks to SpongeBob's dealings with Kassandra, a mysterious fortune teller debuting in The Cosmic Shake. Publisher THQ Nordic promises the game will feature more than 30 SpongeBob skins in total, and players  will need to take advantage of them all in seven distinct alternate worlds linked by the fortune teller's dimensional portals.

Although SpongeBob has continued to appear in several Nickelodeon games in recent years and will be included in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl's roster, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will be the first all-new console release for the character since 2015's SpongeBob HeroPants.

The Cosmic Shake comes hot on the heels of a very successful remake of SpongeBob's best-remembered interactive adventure in Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated. THQ Nordic's remake of the platformer has sold over two million copies as of May 2021. As with SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, Battle for Bikini Bottom -Rehydrated was developed by Purple Lamp Studios, a company acquired by THQ Nordic in late 2020. The publisher made it clear in the past that it plans to remake or rerelease more Nickelodeon games in the future, but the runaway success of Battle for Bikini Bottom may have fast-tracked a proper sequel.

Purple Lamp Studios did not share any details about this upcoming game and only tweeted a simple GIF in response. Rehydrated was a platformer so it’s likely Cosmic Shake will follow in those same footprints.

Though it has no release date yet, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game is also confirmed to be a fully new adventure building off of Purple Lamp's work on Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated. Patrick appears beside SpongeBob as a floating companion in the trailer, so he may serve in a similar capacity as Link's fairy Navi from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. No SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake gameplay has been shown yet, but official art also confirms that a wide cast of SpongeBob characters will appear in some capacity, including the often-overlooked Pearl and Larry the Lobster.

'Big Nate' Featured on Nickelodeon's 'Tooned In' Season 2

Nickelodeon treated viewers to another look at Big Nate during the season two premiere of the network's hit cartoon trivia competition series, Tooned In on Friday, Sept. 18! A picture of Nate and the show's logo was included in the "Climb or Slime" segment:

Based on the best-selling children’s books, written and drawn by acclaimed author and cartoonist Lincoln Peirce, this new TV series will feature brand-new original storylines centered on Nate, a precocious 11-year-old boy, and his mischievous shenanigans that usually result in disaster, detention or both. Big Nate was slated to premiere during September 2021 on Nickelodeon, however, it looks like Nick has postponed the launch of the series.

A listing for the upcoming book Big Nate: Aloha! earlier this summer revealed that Nickelodeon may be planning to launch Big Nate on the linear Nick TV channel and on the Paramount+ streaming service!

According to the synopsis for Big Nate: Aloha! on the Barnes & Noble websiteBig Nate is a "[s]oon to be an animated series with Paramount+ and Nickelodeon!", which suggests that the series will debut on both platforms.

Big Nate (center)

At the moment, it's unclear on whether the series will bow on both platforms at the same time, or on one platform before the other. Nickelodeon and ViacomCBS are increasingly moving towards a launch strategy where a new series debuts on Paramount Plus prior to premiering on linear TV. Nickelodeon's Rugrats revival and SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off Kamp Koral launched on the streaming service earlier this year, prior to their linear premieres on Nickelodeon, and Nickelodeon's upcoming CG-animated Star Trek: Prodigy will bow on Paramount+ on October 28 ahead of its TV debut.

Is it True That Steve Burns Left 'Blue's Clues' for the Afghanistan War?

The claim: Steve Burns left 'Blue's Clues' in 2002 to fight against the Taliban

Millennials on Sept. 7 received an emotional message from a childhood friend in a green striped shirt: Steve Burns, the host of Nickelodeon's beloved preschool series Blue's Clues.

In his two-minute video message, posted to Nickelodeon's Twitter in time for the show's 25th anniversary, Burns addressed his sudden walkout from the show in 2002 after six years and 100 episodes.

"I just kinda got up and went to college," he said. "And that was really challenging by the way, but great because I got to use my mind and take a step at a time and now I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do.”

After Burns' shocking departure, many speculated about what happened, sharing made-up theories that he left because of a drug abuse problem and that he had been killed in a car crash.

His return was met with similar speculation. On social media, many claimed the actor had actually joined the U.S. military and deployed to Afghanistan.

Pictures of Burns wearing the same hat and glasses he wore in the video message have been shared widely, showing him also dressed in military gear, with a vest and camouflage.

Along with the picture, users have also shared a screengrab of Burns' Wikipedia page, which reads: "He is best known as the original host of the long-running children's preschool television program Blue's Clues from 1996 until 2002 ... and for serving as an operator in clandestine operations against the Taliban from 2002 to 2021."

The image, shared on Instagram Sept. 13, accrued more than 4,400 likes within a day of being posted.

A similar image posted Sept. 10, a screenshot of Burns' video with a digitally added military vest and patches, accrued more than 150,000 likes within four days. Both images now have a "False Information" warning.

But Burns' silence after leaving the show wasn't due to top secret missions. He was making music and acting.

USA TODAY reached out to the poster for comment.

Burns' Wikipedia page can be edited by anyone

The claim that Burns was deployed to Afghanistan for the majority of the war is based on an image of his Wikipedia page and the assumption that he "disappeared" at the beginning of the war and only "reappeared" in 2021, as an Instagram post says.

For a brief time, Burns' Wikipedia page did say that he served as "an operator in clandestine operations against the Taliban" from 2002 until 2021, when the last of the U.S. troops in Afghanistan left the country.

But that doesn't mean it's true. Anyone can edit any information posted on the majority of pages on the online encyclopaedia, with a few locked so that only certified users can edit them.

The revision history of Burns' page shows there were about 70 different changes made between Sept. 8, the day after Burns' video was posted on Twitter, and Sept. 11.

There were at least four changes that added uncorroborated information regarding his purported role in the Afghanistan War: that he was part of clandestine operations in Afghanistan; he was the CIA station chief in Pakistan; he served in the special forces against al-Qaida; and that he joined the French armed services to fight "his own war on terror" under a different name.

All these claims are false and were almost immediately deleted by other Wikipedia users because there weren't any "reliable sources" confirming them, according to Wikipedia's edit history.

In fact, there's no evidence Burns ever joined the armed forces or deployed to Afghanistan.

USA TODAY reached out to Burns for comment.

'It was just simply time to go'

While Burns wasn't in the public eye as much as he was when he hosted Blue's Clues, he remained in the music and acting industry.

"I knew I wasn't going to be doing children's television all my life," he said in Behind The Clues - 10 Years Of Blue, a 2006 Nickelodeon interview for the 10th anniversary of the show. "Mostly because I refused to lose my hair on a kids' TV show. And it was happening, fast."

It wasn't just about the hair, however. In a live performance in 2011, Burns said another reason he left was that he didn't feel like he was "the right guy" for the job. He didn't think he was qualified to be a good example for growing kids around the world, he said.

"My contract was up for renewal and I was starting to seriously think: 'As great as this is, they might have the wrong guy,'" he said to an audience at The Moth, a storytelling organization. "Maybe this should be a teacher or a child development specialist."

And in a HuffPost interview in 2016, Burns said the original creators of the show were moving on to other projects in the early 2000s.

"I left the show because it was just simply time to go," he told HuffPost. "I was getting older; I was losing my hair, a lot of the original gangsters on the show, like the people who created it, were all moving on to other careers. It just felt like time."

Burns moved on to make music, TV shows

Burns moved on to make music, though that hadn't been his plan. He told HuffPost his music career was "just a wonderful dream come true, a hobby thing that happened" after the show.

He has released a number of albums.

One of his songs, "Mighty Little Man," later became the theme song for the TV show Young Sheldon, in which Burns made a cameo in an episode in 2020.

Burns didn't only do music, however. He told Business Insider he's done extensive "behind the camera, voiceover work."

"If you hear a guy that sounds like the 'Blue's Clues' guy trying to sell you insurance, or a car, or something, that's me," he said.

Most recently, Burns went back to work in the reboot of the show, Blue's Clues and You.  Burns wrote and directed on the new show, occasionally making guest appearances. He even helped pick the new host, Joshua Dela Cruz.

Fact rating: False

Based on USA Today's research, they have rated FALSE the claim that Burns left Blue's Clues in 2002 to fight against the Taliban. Burns said in interviews he left for a number of reasons, including that he didn't want to lose his hair on children's television and, "It just felt like time." In the last two decades, Burns released music albums, made cameo appearances on TV, did voiceover work, and, most recently, returned to TV for a reboot of Blue's Clues as a writer and occasional guest star.

From El Tiempo:

'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate' Has Featured Nicktoons In It Before 'Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl' Was a Thing

NickHeads were surprised to see a full-blown platform fighter called Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl revealed a few months back. The upcoming title takes heavy inspiration from the Super Smash Bros. series, using similar controls, battle mechanics, and even aesthetics — but with popular Nickelodeon characters.

What we have now is essentially a Nickelodeon Smash Bros., but funnily enough Super Smash Bros. Ultimate had Nicktoons in it before Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was actually a thing. This is all thanks to Smash Ultimate's Stage Builder tool.

We have been featuring the interesting and impressive creations found in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's shared content section since way back when the game first dropped. One thing that has definitely been consistent since players gained access to the tool is Nickelodeon creations.

Player created stages have been designed around all manner of things, such as full Dragon Ball Z scenes recreated to Smash Bros. series creator, Masahiro Sakurai, sitting at his desk watching the players duke it out.

But one theme players see every single time they look through the section is SpongeBob SquarePants stages. From the very beginning, creative types were constructing backdrops depicting the sponge himself, the city of Bikini Bottom, Patrick Star, and everything in between.

Classic SpongeBob memes have even shared as created stages. The creations featured below are just some of the stages players would have seen by perusing the section this morning.

SpongeBob remains an extremely popular subject for Smash Bros. Ultimate created stages. That being said, all kinds of other Nickelodeon IPs have been used as inspiration for custom battlefields.

Doug Dimmadome, owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome from The Fairly OddParents, Invader Zim, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, you name it. Several of the characters and franchises we currently see in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl have already made their way into Smash Bros. thanks to crafty stage creators.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is set for release on October 5. With Nicktoons being represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate through created stages over these past few years, it almost feels like we've come full circle now with a Smash-type game featuring Nickelodeon characters launching soon.

In fact, staff at Nickelodeon Animation Studio even play annual Super Smash Bros. tournaments, and in 2018, Nick sponsored the Super Smash Bros. Shell Showdown featuring Rise of the TMNT!

They're no longer just stages; the Nicktoons are here to kick some butt themselves.
