Nickelodeon Favourites Join Santa Claus At Blackpool Pleasure Beach's Christmas Grotto

Children can meet their favourite Nicktoons characters at Blackpool's Christmas grotto this year!

As well as having the chance to meet Santa Claus, the resort's "Winter Wonderland" will play host to SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Chase and Marshall from PAW Patrol and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Families can make a day of it by visiting Blackpool Pleasure Beach grotto, which is open at weekends between now and Christmas and for the whole week in the run-up to Christmas Eve.

Children can have their photo taken with the Nickelodeon characters, tie a Christmas wish to the beautifully decorated tree and then visit the arena for some ice skating fun.

On certain dates - December 11, 17, 18 and 24 – ice skating finishes at 1pm for a 2.30pm performance of Alice In Wonderland on Ice.

Anyone booking a grotto visit on these dates will get a ticket to watch the show from the Blackpool Ice Drome Charities Association.

A visit to the Nicktoons' Ho Ho Ho Christmas Grotto costs £10.99 online, or £12.99 on the day, and includes entrance to the grotto, a Diamond Pass gift from Santa, ice skating, skate hire and a choice of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

A Diamond Pass entitles you to a Pleasure Beach Pass for every day of the 2017 season - giving you admission to the park.

It allows you to ride on the Pleasure Beach Express, explore the Chinese Puzzle Maze, see the Spectacular Dancing Water Show, and visit Bradley and Bella's Learning Garden.

Pass holders can also get £5 off the cost of an unlimited ride wristband (2017 prices to be announced).

A spokesman for the pleasure beach said: "The grotto is a festive, enchanted, Winter Wonderland full of magic and sparkling lights.

"Santa Claus will be paying a visit to give every good boy and girl a Blackpool Pleasure Beach Diamond Pass for the 2017 season and a special Nickelodeon gift."

Tickets can be booked online here.

Alice In Wonderland On Ice tickets cost £10 each. To book visit the website.

Licensing.biz Celebrates The Success Of Nickelodeon's "Shimmer and Shine" With Week Long Celebration

To celebrate the success of the popular pre-school brand, Licensing.biz has partnered with Nickelodeon for a magical week long celebration of Shimmer and Shine!

Starting Monday 7th November 2016, Licensing.biz will be home to a range of features, interviews and exclusive news stories regarding Shimmer and Shine and its position within the licensing space.

Licensing.biz will feature interviews with Nickelodeon's General Manager (GM) Alison Bakunowich on the broadcast success of the property, Marianne James, Vice President (VP) of Commercial Partnerships, Consumer Products and experiences UK and Ireland on the brand's consumer products programme.

Master toy partner Mattel will be discussing the strength of Shimmer and Shine within the marketplace, while Tesco will offer insight to the brand’s strength at retail.

In the first of Licensing.biz's Shimmer and Shine Week articles, Alison Bakunowich, general manager, Nickelodeon UK and Ireland talks to the licensing news publication about the global success of Nickelodeon's hit preschool series Shimmer and Shine, which you can check out below!:

For those that don’t know yet, can you talk us through Shimmer and Shine. What is the show about and what audiences are you targeting?

Created by Farnaz Esnaashari-Charmatz (the post-production supervisor for Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go), Shimmer and Shine follows twin genies and their adventures in Zahramav Falls.

The series uses imagination, magic, fun and music to tell stories with a strong base in the emotional-intelligence curriculum.

What has early response to the show been like from audiences?

The response has been fantastic.

Within the UK, the show has been watched by over eight million viewers across Nick Jr. and Milkshake, with the show achieving above benchmarks on both channels. Internationally, the response has also been impressive.

Beyond ratings we have also had huge response across social media and this Halloween got the endorsement of Hollywood actor Jessica Alba and her daughter who dressed up as the genie sisters.

Has the success of the show taken you by surprise, what sort of demand are you seeing from audiences?

Given the work that went into the development and production of the series, we’re not surprised by the property’s popularity. Audiences love the show, which is fantastic and means that we are seeing great ratings for episodes and an appetite for the property across our digital platforms and consumer products.

What makes Shimmer and Shine unique within the pre-school TV environment?

There is nothing else like Shimmer and Shine in the pre-school space with its magical setting, use of music and co-operative learning.

A lot of work went into the series to give it the greatest chance of success. From development to focus testing, to launch, we have done all we can to ensure that Shimmer and Shine grabs the attention of pre-schoolers and their families.

The challenges in the pre-school space are primarily around the competition from existing beloved brands. We have been fortunate as we can provide an ideal platform for launching new shows in Nick Jr., the channel and the website.

We have been able to build upon these top platforms with a creative launch and sustain marketing and PR, all designed to raise awareness of the show and sustain audience attention.

The placement of Shimmer and Shine across platforms is also driving maximum awareness of the property, ensuring its chances of cut-through. The availability of our properties across multiple services can be an effective tool – letting families find and enjoy properties.

Streaming services form part of our scheduling strategy for all of our shows. Pre-schoolers now are truly multi-platform and so we do all we can to make sure that our content is available wherever audiences are.

Does Shimmer and Shine have the potential to become a children’s classic?

I am biased, but yes. I really think so. The core of the property is so strong and the setting so vivid and engaging that I can see it lasting for many years to come.

What’s the next big step for Shimmer and Shine in the broadcasting space?

In the UK, new season two episodes continue to roll out on Nick Jr. and Milkshake. We will be supporting these episodes with various stunts and special promotions.
