The 'SpongeBob' Music That's 140 Years Old

How's This SpongeBob Song 140 YEARS OLD? | Vailskibum94

"SpongeBob SquarePants songs are tropical and iconic, fitting right in with the world of Bikini Bottom. Stephen Hillenburg and the crew make sure that the songs align with this underwater setting, and that especially applies to Aloha Oe, which was actually made in the late 1800s! What does it mean?

Aloha Oe plays more than a few times throughout SpongeBob. It represents a new beginning, and a goodbye. In terms of the actual series, there may be something even more meaningful to understand, especially when understanding its placement! As the first song in "Help Wanted" and "Lost in Bikini Bottom", what's the true intention behind this SpongeBob song?"

Boy Accidentally Orders Nearly $3K of SpongeBob Popsicles on Mom’s Amazon Account

Noah Bryant is a big fan of the cartoon sponge, and recently surprised his family by spending $2,618.85 on 918 popsicles from the online superstore!

Oh, barnacles!

It's all too easy to shop until you drop on Amazon, and a young boy from Brooklyn, New York went wild by ordering nearly $3,000 worth of SpongeBob SquarePants popsicles on his mom's account.

Noah Bryant, 4, is a big fan of the cartoon sponge, and recently surprised his family by spending $2,618.85 on 918 popsicles from the online superstore, sent to his aunt's house. Though the youngster was all smiles in a photo with one of the frozen SpongeBob pops, the splurge was no laughing matter for his mom Jennifer Bryant.

In retrospect, there were signs something was about to happen.

"He kept saying the number '51.' " Jennifer told CNN. "All day he was walking around saying '51, 51.'"
But Jennifer didn't think much of it because sometimes he repeats things: "I really wasn't surprised because he was diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder)."

The sweets treats are unfortunately nonrefundable, inspiring a family friend to launch a GoFundMe campaign to cover the cost of the unsupervised shopping spree.

On the fundraising page, friend and organizer Katie Schloss explained that Bryant, a mom of three, is studying social work at New York University and couldn't afford the SpongeBob spread.

The GoFundMe pitch went live on Monday, and $5,780 in donations have poured in as of Thursday morning, smashing the original goal of $2,619.

"Thank you SO much for your mind-blowing generosity and support," Bryant wrote in a follow-up note on GoFundMe. "As a child living with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), all future donations will go towards Noah's education and additional supports."

"We cannot thank you enough. Truly," she added.

Viewers on Instagram and GoFundMe found Noah and his ice cream obsession to be adorable. "This story made me so happy. Enjoy the popsicles!" one donator wrote. "He's so precious!!!! Who wouldn't love a summer supply of SpongeBob popsicles??" an Instagram follower added.

Some empathized with Jennifer's predicament, citing instances of their own children making extravagant purchases.

"When my son was 5 he ordered Call of Duty and a few other games which added up to about $600," one parent wrote on Instagram. "I'm so thankful that PlayStation reimbursed me these children are highly intelligent!! Damn Noah."

Update (5/11) - Amazon says they are in contact with Bryant family and will donate proceeds to a local charity, reports WABC-TV in New York!

Update (5/12) from CNN:

A phone call from an exasperated sister

.Noah's aunt was not expecting to receive three 70-pound boxes of SpongeBob SquarePants Popsicles.

Then she got the call.

"She was fussing and cussing, and she said to me, 'You know, you really need to stop ordering all this stuff.'"

Three huge boxes, each weighing 70 pounds and requiring immediate freezing, had arrived at her sister's house.

"I said 'I don't know what you're talking about.'"

That's when Jennifer discovered she was the proud owner of 51 cases of SpongeBob Popsicles, costing just under $2,619.

Suddenly, Noah's repeated mantra of "51, 51..." started to make sense.

A frozen headache

Amazon wouldn't take the ice pops back because they came from a third-party vendor. Her credit card is investigating but so far hasn't issued a refund. For a terrifying moment, Bryant, a mother of three with some big school bills of her own, had no idea how she was going to pay her tuition this semester.

A friend and fellow student at NYU's Silver School of Social Work started a GoFundMe for her, hoping to help pay off at least some of the Popsicles.

And that brings us to our sweet ending. (And, no, it's not that Noah got to eat all 918 Popsicles in some sort of preschool Bacchanalia; they melted in two days.)

The GoFundMe paid off the ice pops within 24 hours, and the donations kept coming in, climbing way beyond the original target.

Jennifer says she'll use the extra money to pay for Noah's schooling and the extra educational support he needs. She's hoping she'll be able to send him to a special school for children on the autism spectrum. Noah would like that, too, but his real dream is just to meet SpongeBob in person.

SpongeBob Cult Pops Up on TikTok

From the moment SpongeBob SquarePants first flopped like a fish onto Nickelodeon in 1999, the absorbent, yellow, and porous sea sponge captured the hearts of kids (and their parents). The pineapple-dwelling, perpetually-optimistic fast food worker has remained a beloved part of popular culture more than 20 years later — so much so, in fact, that there's a whole SpongeBob cult that's popped up via TikTok.

What is the SpongeBob cult on TikTok?

If you're not familiar with the term "cult" on TikTok, don't worry: It's not an actual religious cult. (And there are no sacrifices of squids or dogs and snails living together - MASS HYSTERIA!). Rather, a cult on TikTok is just a group of people who are interested in the same thing — so they decide to try to "take over" the social media app with the special interest.

Side note: There was a real life Church of SpongeBob in the mid-aughts!

This is typically accomplished by flooding TikTok with posts related to that topic, as well as users changing their profile photo to the same photo. In other words, TikTok cults are pretty harmless — and they're mostly just annoying to those who are not part of them.

In order to join the SpongeBob cult on TikTok, simply change your profile photo to an image of a SpongeBob popsicle and consider making a video spreading the message for others to join, too.

Considering all of the disturbing "challenges" that are out there on social media today, the SpongeBob cult is actually pretty darn wholesome.

Wait, but why are SpongeBob Popsicles taking over TikTok?

It's not clear, exactly, how the SpongeBob cult on TikTok got its start. However, it appears the trend could be a response to a story about a 4-year-old boy named Noah Ruiz who purchased 51 boxes of SpongeBob Popsicles on his mother Jennifer Bryant's Amazon Prime account without permission.

"He kept saying the number '51.'" Jennifer told CNN of her son, who has autism spectrum disorder (ASD). "All day he was walking around saying '51, 51.'"

Yep. Noah blew through $2,618 of his mom's money in order to buy 918 of the popsicles while he was supposed to be doing remote schooling — as his family soon found out when three "huge boxes, each weighing 70 pounds" were delivered.

Frustratingly, Amazon refused to refund the order because they were purchased from a third-party vendor — which meant the Ruiz family was stuck with the SpongeBob Popsicles. (Most of them ended up melting because they didn't have enough freezer space.) Amazon, however, did make contact with Bryant family and will donate proceeds to a local charity.

A friend set up a GoFundMe campaign for Jennifer, and in the span of a day, it earned enough money to completely take care of the enormous Popsicle bill. (Whew!)

Another part of the SpongeBob cult on TikTok includes videos of people opening SpongeBob Popsicles and mocking how messed up the eye placement/design is on their frozen treat. Or in some cases, users are marveling over how uncharacteristically perfect their SpongeBob Popsicle is.

So yeah. If you notice TikTok has been flooded with profile photos and posts featuring SpongeBob Popsicles, at least now you know what's going on ... sort of.

'The Legend of Korra' Cosplayer Targeted by Vile Trolls After Sharing Photo

A The Legend of Korra cosplayer who goes by the name Tranquil Ashes is determined to keep on following her burning passion in life despite comments from trolls.

A cosplayer has spoken out after being trolled with racist and ‘fat-phobic’ abuse in response to a viral picture of her in a superhero pose.

Anita Riggs, whose alter-ego is Tranquil Ashes, said she is ‘no stranger to bad comments’ but reaction to a picture of her in character crossed a line. She received a torrent of abuse about her size and look on social media and ended up blocking dozens of people. However Anita told Metro.co.uk she is determined to break new ground in cosplay, meaning ‘costume play’, which she says lacks diversity as with many other spheres of life.

The trolling began in April after she posted the picture in her Tranquil Ashes persona harnessing a ball of water while she was standing on rocks at a seafront. The ensemble was a homage to the titular character in The Legend of Korra, Nickelodeon's beloved animated series and follow-up to the network's iconic animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The abuse was posted on Facebook and Twitter after the image was shared thousands of times across the platforms. Anita said: ‘I am no stranger to bad comments or backwards opinions on my craft and person. This time, however, it was far more than I was used to.

‘No doubt there are ups and downs when your work manages some sort of virality.

‘It was disheartening because cosplay is really about fun and escapism and at the end of the day we all just want respect.’

The freelance make-up artist, from Baltimore, Maryland, received weeks of abuse after first posting the image in April 2021. ‘People were telling me I’m going to die because I’m not society’s ideal weight or telling me that I look like I ate the characters I portray or I’m the n***** version of something,’ she said. ‘Thankfully blocking and muting has solved those few incidents. It’s not less right.’

The creative initially reacted by sharing her dismay with her followers, which triggered a wave of support and compliments about the photoshoot. She wrote on Facebook: ‘Ever since I posted this cosplay last week the amount of bullying, death threat/saying in gonna die, harassment I’ve received is staggering.

‘I’m being bullied to death. I’m tired.

‘These are just a fraction of comments. I’ve blocked dozens of people. I deserve to be here, I am worthy, talented..but I had to vent and get this off my chest…I’m exhausted from this, I’m human too.’

The plus-sized model then received heart from hundreds of supportive messages from people who appreciate her work. She told Metro.co.uk: ‘The onslaught of support has been truly overwhelming and humbling. It has reminded me of what I’ve always known.

‘That the people who are meant to be around you will be. My supporters realise that overall my work is well-regarded and valid.’

Anita says she has been ‘into nerdom and pop culture for as long as I can remember’ before she began doing make-up for herself and others. She was inspired to take up cosplay seven years ago after reading a book by Yaya Han, considered the artform’s most famous online exponent for her striking costumes.

Cosplay revolves around fans recreating their favourite characters, with graphic novels, anime, manga and video games being the main influences. Explaining her character’s name, Anita said: ‘I’ve always been partial to oxymoronic names. Tranquil Ashes is a play on the Phoenix-rising rebirth and glory. It’s a nod to my resilience through adversity, the burning of my passions and as a goal to imprint my stamp on the world.’

Anita is now working on her next cosplay gala, entitled The Cosgala, which she plans for 2022. She said she is ‘super excited for my future deep dive into my art passions’ and to increase the scope of representation in the cultural realms outside the mainstream.

Anita said: ‘The lack of representation exists just as prominent in the nerd and geek space as any. We need more BIPOC [black, indigenous, and other people of color] bodies on Fandom feeds. More in influencing, sewing, photography, kink, press and voices.

‘We are out there and deserve to be featured and respected and paid for our crafts and contributions.

‘It’s 2021 and we have no choice but to do better.’
