Children’s Discovery Museum in Normal, IL to Host Day of Play on Sept. 25

Day of Play Presented by PNC at Children’s Discovery Museum


Normal, IL - Day of Play presented by PNC embodies our mission of "Inspiring the love of learning through the power of play." The whole day is FREE and designed to provide opportunities for all kids and parents to play and learn together! Fun, physically engaging activities are central to a healthy lifestyle. This national initiative created by Nickelodeon in 2005, marked by a whole day of activities, encourages children and families to turn off screens, set down electronic devices and go outside to play.

Please note that admission to the event is free, however tickets are required for the Children’s Discovery Museum.

Day of Play happening on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., transforms Uptown Normal into a giant playground. More than 60 community partners will feature interactive, engaging, and exciting PLAY activities. The CDM Education staff will feature a host of STEAM experiences! Attendees will also enjoy stage performances, a bike rodeo, and touch-a-truck area as well as $4 admission to the Children's Discovery Museum!


Day of Play: Kids Make and Sell

Sell your handmade items and gadgets during Day of Play. Sellable items include artwork, jewelry, crafts, and more! All items must be made by kids (5-18 years old). All sellers must be accompanied by an adult. Set up begins at 9am and we ask that teardown does not begin before 3pm. A tent, table and 1 chair per ½ table will be provided. (No food items)

Cost: $10/participant for one-half of an 8-foot table


NEW Activity - NASA launch of the James Webb Telescope

This year the Museum is partnering with Heartland community College’s Challenger Learning Center and NASA to celebrate the launch of the James Webb Telescope this November. Challenger Learning Center will host a live Zoom meeting with NASA experts to discuss this amazing mission. Museum and Challenger Learning Center educators will be on site in the big tent with a variety of hands of activities to help us learn about some of the science and art around the launch. Come visit us to see a real space suit, test your skill at folding a space telescope to prepare it for launch, explore our expanding universe like the telescope will, design your own space craft to study space, explore how a sun is formed, why objects orbit each other in space and learn more about this amazing new space telescope and what it will teach us about our own universe.

Watch now: Space is theme for Day of Play in Normal

NORMAL — Families are encouraged to turn off the screen and get outside this weekend in uptown Normal.

In celebration of Worldwide Day of Play, the Children's Discovery Museum is offering a variety of in-person and virtual family-friendly activities, including a special guest speaker with NASA.

Day of Play will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 101 E. Beaufort St. in uptown Normal. Activities are free, and reduced admission to the Children's Discovery Museum is offered through 5 p.m. Tickets are $4.

The nationally celebrated event, created by Nickelodeon in 2005, provides free opportunities for children and their parents to have fun while learning together. Each year more than 60 local organizations partner with the children's museum for Day of Play.

This year the museum will feature STEAM experiences and activities related to space and chemistry to celebrate the launch of the James Webb telescope, the most powerful space telescope built to date. Kids will have the opportunity to see a real space suit, design a space craft and learn about telescopes.

The museum and Challenger Learning Center at Heartland Community College were selected over the summer as partners in NASA's Webb Space and Telescope Community Events Initiative, which will include a Zoom event with a special guest speaker from NASA.

Other Day of Play activities include live performances and interactive demonstrations at the PNC Stage in Mark R. Peterson Plaza, a giant sand box, and a PBS Be My Neighbor Day, which seeks to teach kids how to be a good neighbor by showing kindness and empathy.

The bike rodeo and a touch-a-truck area are also returning, with free bike helmets to be distributed, as well as the Kids-Make-and-Sell station, which gives kids the opportunity to sell handcrafted goods.

As part of the event, the following roads will be closed to parking starting at 2 a.m. Saturday and closed to traffic starting at 5 a.m. Saturday: Uptown Circle; East Beaufort Street from Linden Street to Uptown Circle; West Beaufort Street from Uptown Circle to the entrance of the Uptown Station parking deck; and Constitution Boulevard from College Avenue to West Beaufort Street.

Roads will reopen by 5 p.m. Saturday.

Free parking is available in the College Avenue parking deck with overflow parking in the Trail East, Anderson Park and Chiddix Junior High lots. Hourly parking rates apply at the Uptown Station and Beaufort Street parking decks. Temporary handicap parking spaces will be available on North Broadway near Commerce Bank.

France's TF1 Acquires 'Santiago of the Seas', 'PAW Patrol' Season 8 for TFOU Kids Strand

Nick News Mini: The leading French commercial broadcaster TF1 has announced that it has acquired the rights to Nickelodeon's Santiago of the Seas (Santiago des mers) and season eight of Nickelodeon's PAW Patrol (Pat’ Patrouille), with plans to premiere both on the network's TFOU kids programming strand as part of it's Autumn/Winter 2021 programming highlights!

Issu des studios Nickelodeon, tout comme la Pat’Patrouille, cette série animée met en scène le courageux Santiago, accompagné de Kiko, la grenouille ; Tomas, son cousin ; et Lorelai, la sirène. Ensemble, ils ont mis la main sur le trésor du légendaire capitaine Calavera. Ils deviennent de fait les nouveaux protecteurs d’Isla Encanto. Munis d’une boussole magique, ils partent à l’aventure sur leur navire, El Bravo. À l’instar de Dora, des mots espagnols se glissent dans les dialogues de cette série animée destinée aux enfants âgés de 3 à 6 ans.

(NASDAQ: VIAC, VIACA), today announced Pluto TV, the leading free streaming television service, will launch in Italy on October 28.  With over 52 million global monthly active users spanning 25 countries in three continents, Pluto TV will be Italy’s first Free ad-supported television (FAST) service and will complement Paramount+ when the premium streaming service launches in Italy in 2022.

Pluto TV will be available for free everywhere Italians stream, with no registration required. Sky Media will serve as Pluto TV’s conventional advertising sales partner in Italy.

“We are pioneering a new type of streaming platform,” Olivier Jollet, senior VP and general manager of Pluto TV International, told Variety. He noted that when Pluto TV launched in the U.S. in 2014, “nobody believed it would be successful because it was a linear product in the age of on-demand and a free product in the age of subscription.”

But now that TV viewers have become disoriented by having too many viewing options that are often buried away “there is movement towards helping users find the right content,” Jollet added, citing the fact that in France Netflix has been testing its first linear channel, called Netflix Direct.

Jollet underlined that Italy, which has an older demographic than the U.S., is still a strong linear TV market, which makes the country particularly prone to embracing this service.

Sta arrivando, anche in Italia, una nuova piattaforma TV in streaming: si chiama Pluto TV ed è “FAST“, cioè Free Ad-Supported Television. O, per chi non mastica l’inglese, gratis con pubblicità. Pluto TV è un servizio di ViacomCBS, il mega conglomerato televisivo americano che trasmette, tra gli altri, i canali internazionali MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network.

Pluto TV è il lato free della stessa medaglia di Paramount+, piattaforma di streaming questa volta a pagamento che arriverà in Italia nel 2022. Pluto TV, invece, arriverà molto prima: il debutto è previsto per il 28 ottobre. Первого сентября Nickelodeon Россия запускает кампанию «В школу с Nickelodeon!». В рамках нее телеканал расскажет детям о правилах поведения в школе, проведет конкурс с призами и покажет марафон летних серий таких мультфильмов, как «Мой шумный дом», «Касагранде», «Это Пони», «Рюкзак Олли» и «Санджей и Крейг». На канале также выйдут специальные проморолики в поддержку кампании и видео с юными актерами дубляжа.

В видеороликах для кампании снялись дети-актеры, которые принимают участие в озвучке популярных сериалов и шоу канала Nickelodeon. Среди них будут Маша Гаврилина, Федор Парамонов и Тимофей Звягольский, которые озвучили оленяшек Бобби, Реми и Кая в мультсериале «Лесная Команда», Анфиса Маслова — голос Никки из шоу «Nickelodeon Шпионаж», Тихон Ефименко, озвучивший причудливого соседа Манчи в сериале «Nickelodeon Подработка» и другие. Nickelodeon выпустит 11 видеороликов с разными героями, которые расскажут о своих школьных приключениях и поделятся лайфхаками, как после летних каникул быстро привыкнуть к новому расписанию и составить распорядок дня, а также обсудят много других интересных тем. Ролики будут опубликованы в социальных сетях Nickelodeon Россия.

С 13 сентября стартует творческий конкурс. Зрители смогут пройти веселый тест и узнать, на какого из героев Nickelodeon они похожи. Кроме того, у участников будет возможность написать эссе и рассказать о том, кто из персонажей канала мог бы стать отличным соседом по парте. Среди тех, кто прошел тест, телеканал Nickelodeon и партнер конкурса онлайн-кинотеатр KION будут разыгрывать ежедневные призы — бесплатную подписку на онлайн-кинотеатр. А автор самого интересного эссе получит в подарок уникальный брендированный рюкзак со школьными принадлежностями и сувенирами от KION и Nickelodeon. Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, September 17 at 10:15 a.m. at MODS


Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (September 7, 2021) – Dora and Diego—Let’s Explore!, the newest traveling exhibit at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS), will swing into the Museum on Friday, September 17, 2021. The exhibit, presented by JM Lexus, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and Wells Fargo, will run from September 17 through January 17, 2022.

An official ribbon cutting is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on September 17, with Joseph P. Cox, president & CEO of MODS; Julie Tullis, marketing director of JM Lexus; and Erick Strati, senior vice president South Florida market executive with Wells Fargo.

The exhibit gives guests the opportunity to go into the worlds of Dora (beloved 7-year-old Latina heroine from Nickelodeon’s hit series Dora the Explorer) and Diego (Dora’s 8-year-old cousin and bilingual animal rescuer from the network’s Go, Diego, Go! show) to engage in problem-solving and active play. Dora and Diego - Let’s Explore! features iconic characters Dora and Diego along with their friends Boots, Map, Backpack, Isa, Tico, and of course Swiper, now in their own exhibit for your child to explore as they learn and play along.

“Children can play along as they join an adventure and learn how to solve problems, be a good friend, and care for animals and the environment, which are all important for our explorers’ development as curious learners,” said Cox. “Our mission is to connect people to inspiring science, and in this case, exploring new worlds through immersive, innovative and experiential discovery.”

The Dora & Diego experience at MODS is free with Museum admission. Favorite friends and places from episodes of Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Do! are incorporated in the exhibit including:

Space travel in the Rocket Ship - Dora’s space creature friends need help to find their way back to the Purple Planet. Visitors will operate the rocket ship control panel to navigate through the Milky Way, look out the porthole to see planets fly by, connect stars to form a constellation and explore the Purple Planet in a space suit!

A visit to the Nutty Forest - Little explorers can help Tico gather nuts to fuel his car before Swiper swipes them. If Swiper is spotted, tell him, “Swiper, no swiping!”

A trip to Isa’s Garden - Young botanists can help Isa care for her garden by planting and watering flowers and sorting flowers by their shapes. Make sure to stop and smell the posies!

Pirate Piggies’ ship adventure - Explorers will climb aboard the pirate ship in search of treasure. Help Dora and Boots get the crew ready to sail the seas by following the Pirate Piggy Rules: dress like a pirate, sing a pirate song, always be polite, and share.

Caring for baby animals in the Animal Rescue Center - Veterinarians in training will learn how to care for red-eyed tree frogs, spider monkeys, jaguars and crocodiles by placing them in Scan the Scanner and then help Diego and Alicia examine, bandage, bathe and feed the baby animals.

Exploring the Rainforest Maze - Visitors will run, jump, crawl and swing through the Rainforest Maze in search of baby animals hidden inside.

MODS Members are invited to the Museum on Friday, September 17 at 9 a.m. for a special exhibit preview. Members always receive free admission. Let’s eat breakfast! iVámonos a desayunar! Families can enjoy a special character breakfast on Saturday, September 18 at 9 a.m. Seating is limited and advanced registration is required. The cost is $17.50 per person (child or adult) for Museum members and $37.50 per person (child or adult) for non-members. The event includes a breakfast buffet, meet & greet with Dora and Diego, special hands-on activities for all  ages, music and singalongs, Museum exploration and an IMAX documentary.

A Dora and Diego Character Meet & Greet will take place on Saturday, September 18 and Sunday, September 19. The 30-minute sessions are limited and advanced registration is required. The Meet & Greet are free with Museum admission.
