Danny and her parents are planning to stay at a rented house for the summer, which is rather run down and spooky.  Even more mysterious is their host, a sickly young boy, Peter, who lives there without any sight of his parents.  Danny becomes very suspicious when her parents seem to be ageing by the day as Peter seems to look healthier.  Danny must fight not only her own fear, but also her parents, who don't believe that their lives are threatened.

This year's top nominees include Spider-Man: No Way Home (7 nominations), Euphoria (6) and The Batman (4). First-time nominees include Inventing Anna, Moon Knight, Pam & Tommy, The Adam Project, The Dropout and The Lost City. New categories for 2022 include "Best Song" and "Here for the Hookup."

Dark Horse and Nickelodeon Reveal the Ultimate 'The Legend of Korra' Statue

Dark Horse's latest Avatar-inspired collectible is a must-own for hardcore fans.

Dark Horse Direct only recently unveiled its new line of Avatar: The Last Airbender statues, and already the company is expanding with a new iconic character from the franchise. Next up is Korra herself, in a piece that easily ranks among the coolest Avatar collectibles to date.

IGN has revealed this new Legend of Korra statue. Check it out below:


This particular Korra statue is inspired by the character's appearance in Book 4 of the animated series, as she sports her Southern Water Tribe costume and is seen wielding all four elements in tandem.

This statue was sculpted by Bigshot Toyworks, with prototyping and paint design handled by J.W. Productions. It measures roughly 10 inches tall and sits atop a 4-inch diameter base.

This statue is priced at $199.99, which is certainly pricier than the previous Zuko and Katara statues. However, unlike those more budget-oriented PVC pieces, Korra is cast in polystone. The statue is limited to 2000 units and is available to preorder now through Dark Horse Direct. Preorders should ship between November 2022 and January 2023.

Star Trek: Prodigy follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search for a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the Star Trek franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.

PROSTAR PLAYTIME: BRINGING STAR TREK’S FIRST KID-FOCUSED SERIES TO STORE SHELVES


Star Trek may have first flown its starships into pop culture consciousness more than five decades ago, but this ever-expanding franchise of space adventures continues to — as the Vulcans would put it — live long and prosper. Even after all these years, the Star Trek universe is constantly growing, changing, and experimenting with new types of content. 

One of the more recent additions to its expansive catalog of intergalactic stories is the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. While Star Trek movies and shows have always attracted fans across a wide age range, this new addition is the first Star Trek title that is specifically designed for kids. 

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and CBS Studios, the series debuted late last year on Paramount+ and will air on Nickelodeon in the U.S. later this year. It follows a group of teenage characters who are forced to work in a mining colony overseen by the mysterious Diviner. One day, they discover the U.S.S. Protostar, a derelict Starfleet ship. They board the ship and take off, kick-starting an epic adventure as they set course for Starfleet while trying to outrun the Diviner. 

The show is not only kid-friendly in its content, but also in its design. It is the first Star Trek show with 3D animation, and its cast of characters is as colorful and visually diverse as the worlds they explore. The intrepid young escapees include Dal R’El, a purple humanoid who captains the crew; Rok-Tahk, a Brikarian with red, rocky skin; and Zero, a Madusan (a non-corporeal, energy-based life form) who lives in a self-made suit.

According to Veronica Hart, executive vice president of global franchise planning for Paramount, creating this diverse cast of characters was a key component of the show. “When developing the Prodigy series and toy line, we wanted to make sure that kids could find aspects of themselves reflected in the characters and that they could use that as a springboard to immerse themselves in the resulting consumer products,” she says.

Now, as Prodigy awaits its already-greenlit second season, Paramount has started partnering with merch makers to create those consumer products offerings. The first licensing partner on board for this series was Playmates Toys, which has a history with the Star Trek franchise. The company first created Star Trek toys back in the ‘90s and has also frequently partnered with Paramount Consumer Products for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys. This long-standing relationship made Playmates Toys a natural fit to create action figures, vehicles, and other toys inspired by the series.

Playmates Toys will debut its Prodigy offerings with figures of the core six characters and the hologram version of Kathryn Janeway, who appears in this series to help guide the U.S.S. Protostar. The first five figures — ​​Dal R’El with Murf, Gwyndala, Jankom Pog, Hologram Janeway, and Zero — will be available this October, followed by Rok-Tahk early next year.

These 1:14-scale figures feature 14 points of articulation and come in blister packaging with updated, show-specific design elements. According to Playmates Toys’ Vice President of Marketing John Stelzner, the same sculptors who made the company’s Star Trek toys in the ‘90s returned to work on these figures (and Playmates Toys’ other new Star Trek offerings). While that aspect of production stayed the same, Playmates Toys did introduce some new technology to help capture these characters’ dynamic appearances, including a UV printing process for the head deco.

“The characters from this series all have a unique look that is both rich in detail and yet still very familiar in a lot of ways,” Stelzner says.”We love the character designs that Nickelodeon and the show producers came up with.” He also notes that this show and its premise easily lend themselves to classic play patterns for kids, including good versus evil adversarial play and figures interacting with vehicles and ships. In fact, Playmates Toys’ Prodigy collection will expand to include ships, vehicles, and role-play toys next year.

 Along with the distinct visuals, another through-line for both Prodigy and its consumer products is its cross-generational appeal. “The [Prodigy] viewer does not need to be familiar with the Star Trek universe, so it’s a great entry point for the brand, but there are enough winks and nods to its history that co-viewing parents will enjoy just as much as their kids. … We will never ignore our lifelong fans, as they are the backbone of the brand. For Prodigy, we know that both kids and collectors alike will gravitate toward the series and, in turn, the October toy launch,” Hart says.

This balance is something Playmates Toys specifically paid attention to while creating its toy line, Stelzner says. “When developing and sculpting our Prodigy figures, we want them to be able to stand on their own, but still not be completely separate from the full Star Trek universe. … Both the show and our toy line are unique, but everything about them will also thrill the long-time Star Trek fan.”

While fans’ reactions to these figures have been positive, they are just the start for the show’s consumer products line. There is already a selection of Prodigy-inspired home goods and apparel available from the Official Star Trek Shop, including mugs, T-shirts, and blankets — and Hart says there are additional partnerships on the way. 

“We’ll have updates to share soon, but key categories of gaming, publishing, and softlines are all underway and we are exploring additional partners to round out the product offerings,” she says. “This is just the beginning!”

Street Fighter vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Action Figures Unveiled

Capcom, Playmates, and Nickelodeon are teaming up for a new action figure collaboration pitting the cast of Street Fighter against the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.


In total four action figure 2-packs will be offered, pitting one member of the TMNT against one Street Fighter. The first two sets will launch in late fall, pitting Ryu against Leonardo, and Chun-Li against Michelangelo. The next two sets will feature Guile versus Raphael and Ken Masters versus Donatello, though no release window has been revealed, as of this writing. The figures will release in window box packaging with background art based on Street Fighter II.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the original Street Fighter game, which first released back in 1987. Capcom has already hinted at plans to celebrate the occasion, and these figure sets are part of that celebration.

Each of the eight figures in the set will be six inches tall, offering multiple points of articulation. While the Street Fighter figures are clearly inspired by their appearances in Street Fighter II,  At this time, an MSRP for the two-packs has not been revealed, though pre-orders will likely be offered from various retailers.

Each 6-inch figure in the collection is highly poseable with multiple points of articulation – from ball joints at the head, shoulders, and hips to split joint elbows and knees, and more — to allow for epic “vs.” poses. The Street Fighter figures are authentically detailed to match the likeness of the characters in the Street Fighter II video game, whilst the the Ninja Turtles toys seem to be based on the original comics by Eastman and Laird, and the two-character sets come in ‘80’s video game console-inspired, window box packaging.

Pairings includes, Ryu vs. Leonardo, Chun-Li vs. Michelangelo, Guile vs. Raphael, and Ken Masters vs. Donatello. The first two sets — Ryu vs. Leo and Chun-Li vs. Mikey — are set to arrive at retail stores later this fall. Cowabunga, dude!

Street Fighter and TMNT debuted just a few years apart, but this collection marks the first time these characters have appeared alongside one another. While the crossover might seem unusual, the Ninja Turtles have actually appeared in a number of fighting games over the years, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters, Injustice 2, and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Given that, it's actually somewhat surprising that it's taken this long for these characters to battle against one another! Perhaps this collaboration will lead to an actual in-game crossover in the future, but for now, fans of both franchises will just have to settle for action figure battles, instead.

How ViacomCBS Consumer Products is Eyeing a Strong Start to 2022

LicensingSource recently gathered four senior executives from ViacomCBS Consumer Products on a Zoom call to discuss business in their respective territories, growth drivers, the future of live experiences, retail and key focuses into 2022 and 2023. Just don’t ask them to choose their favourite between SpongeBob and Patrick!

“In general, off the back of a very tough year in 2020, we have been able to get our business back to pre-pandemic levels and beyond,” begins Mark Kingston, Senior Vice President (SVP), International Licensing at ViacomCBS Consumer Products. “Most of the European territories are now pretty much at the same level in terms of recovery from the pandemic, and restrictions are now similar across Europe. We did notice strong consumer habits changes as a direct consequence of the pandemic and various lockdowns across territories. Retail prices and shipping costs have considerably increased which has impacted consumers’ disposable income. But, on the other hand, we’ve also seen a sharp rise in ecommerce, and the binge-watching trend brought by lockdown has helped our properties gain visibility.”

Mark was been joined by three fellow senior executives from the ViacomCBS business on a Zoom call – at the request of LicensingSource. It’s a powerful quartet and all of them are keen to share details of how their respective territories have been performing.

“In Southern Europe and MENA, we have grown 38% compared to last year,” says Simon Leslie, Vice President (VP), Licensing, Southern Europe, ME and Africa. “We’ve managed to recover what was lost in 2020 and have also managed to grow above 2019 numbers (+25% vs 2019) thanks to strong CP launches such as Blue’s Clues & You, Baby Shark’s Big Show and PAW Patrol: The Movie.”

Venetia Davie, VP, Consumer Products, ViacomCBS UK, Ireland, Israel, Australia and New Zealand, says that the cluster had a great year [in 2021] thanks to its partners, with all three markets delivering strong double-digit year on year growth.

Meanwhile, in Germany, the company has experienced double-digit growth for the past five years and delivered a record year in 2021 establishing Germany as its biggest international market for consumer products, says Felix Ruoff, VP Consumer Products, ViacomCBS Northern & Eastern Europe. Central and Eastern Europe has also enjoyed accelerated growth over the last three years.

As for what’s driving this growth, every market has a strong PAW Patrol business – further buoyed by the 2021 movie. Felix comments: “Lidl, one of the global top retailers, executed its biggest entertainment activation in 2021 with The PAW Patrol Movie. The promotion delivered us record revenues as it was the biggest initiative we’ve ever done with one retailer all over Europe.”

SpongeBob SquarePants and Baby Shark are also universal successes. There are nuances between the territories though, as Simon points out: “One of the big gaps we’ve spotted in Europe is the different take up on online shopping. In countries such as Spain and Italy, we have a lower penetration of ecommerce – it has however been accelerated by the pandemic – compared to the UK for example or Germany which are really advanced on that front.”

Looking ahead to 2022 and 2023, there are further plans for PAW Patrol, including a live show which will tour cities across Europe. The launch of Paramount+ in the UK will also bring with it some new marketing and promotional opportunities for the pups, says Venetia.

Baby Shark’s Big Show will also be launching across international territories, while Santiago of the Seas will be joining the Nickelodeon family. “Star Trek: Prodigy will be a big priority for us in 2023,” continues Mark. “And, of course, we are looking forward to launching SpongeBob SquarePants’ spin-offs Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show across territories.”

On the Paramount side, the eagerly awaited Top Gun: Maverick will finally arrive, the 50th anniversary of The Godfather is approaching and the launch of Paramount+ across some international territories will be a “big moment” for ViacomCBS says Mark. “We’re also thrilled to see new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles content coming to viewers screens on VOD in 2023, as well as a new Paramount movie,” Mark adds.

The final word goes to Venetia when we ask what’s been the biggest thing she’s learnt about the licensing business in the last 18 months: “This industry is resilient. The way we’ve adapted to the situation has been truly amazing.”

Favourite character in the ViacomCBS portfolio?

Venetia: “I don’t dislike Mondays as much, but I share his love of lasagna and enjoy his sardonic sense of humour – I’d say Garfield.”
Felix: “I’ve always loved Chase from PAW Patrol.”
Mark: “Michelangelo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – he might be the comedy act but he’s always there to support his brothers and save the day.”
Simon: “SpongeBob, without a doubt.”

Who would play you in a movie of your life?

Venetia: “I think it would either be Statler or Waldorf.”
Felix: “According to Mark, it has to be David Hasselhoff… the one and only German icon.”
Mark: “Colin Firth!”
Simon: “Jimmy Carr apparently, though I don’t quite see it myself…”

SpongeBob or Patrick?

Venetia: “What? I couldn’t possibly choose.”
Felix: “SpongeBob to be honest.”
Mark: “How could you choose? SpongeBob for his eternal optimism and Patrick for his profound words of wisdom.”
Simon: “SpongeBob for me.”

As we begin the journey through 2022, LicensingSource asks a selection of licensees from across various categories how they are looking to make the most of the first quarter of the year.

“I’m excited about all our new licensed product launches for 2022 including the new Batman movie, Grease, Top Gun: Maverick, Baby Shark, Heinz Baked Beans and Tomato Ketchup, Slush Puppie and Blippi costumes, plus CoComelon and Disney Classics balloons.

We’re also introducing design refreshes for our classic balloon and party licences, such as PAW Patrol, Bing, My Little Pony, Barbie, Fireman Sam and Smiley. We’ve also got lots more licences in the pipeline…

I’m also looking forward to catching up with our customers, licensors and industry friends at the shows.”

Dotemu Announces 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge' Physical Releases, Soundtrack

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is set to be released this summer, and to celebrate, Dotemu has announced that the brand new TMNT video game will be getting a multi-region physical release post-launch!


Limited Run Games will be handling the North America version, while Merge Games will ensure Europe also don't miss out. Happinet and H2 Interactive will be handling Japan and the rest of Asia respectively. Signature Run Games will also be releasing a special edition.

Whilst details about each release are currently scarce, Signature Run Games and Limited Run Games have revealed what is going into their releases!

The Signature Edition will include: a physical copy of the game, a special edition outer sleeve, a numbered signed art card, one randomly selected Turtle mask/bandana, a keyring, a pizza keyring and booklet inside the game case, a metal coaster, a pizza box CD soundtrack, and a a pin badge set.

As for the Limited Edition version, every edition will include a reversible cover, sprite stickers, and an art booklet. Limited Run will reveal their collections edition of the game on 6/3/22 during their LRG3 video stream.


And if you're concerned about these released being limited edition, don't be. Josh Fairhurst of Limited Run Games confirmed separately on Twitter that "Our release will be a distributed release that will be available at major US retailers like Amazon".

One more thing to get excited about — Tee Lopes' music is already sounding incredible in the trailers and the gameplay, but fans will be able to get the soundtrack digitally as soon as the game launches, courtesy of Kid Katana Records!

TORONTO, May 24, 2022 - Following the massive global success of PAW Patrol: The Movie™, Spin Master Entertainment, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies today revealed the first new star voice talent being added to the cast of the upcoming PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie™.  Preschoolers' favorite team of pups will return to the big screen with Academy Award®-nominated and Golden Globe®-winning actor Taraji P. Henson (Minions: Rise of the Gru, Hidden Figures, Empire) lending her voice to the film, slated for exclusive theatrical release on October 13, 2023. The studio is currently working with returning voice talent from the first film and additional new cast members, all of which will be announced shortly. Henson is currently repped by M88, CAA, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Cole and the Lede Company.

"While I don't want to give too much away, my character in the film throws the pups some new challenges that they must unite to overcome. Last year, pup domination ensued when the preschool powerhouse franchise's first feature film premiered in theatres in August 2021, opening in the number one spot in more than 25 countries and amassing over $150 million worldwide at the box office. With a simultaneous day and date release on Paramount+ in the US, the film broke records quickly becoming the number one most streamed movie on the platform, holding steady today where it is watched an average of 3+ times.

The follow-up feature will see veteran animation director Cal Brunker (PAW Patrol: The Movie, Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature) return to direct the film while also reuniting with writing partner, Bob Barlen (PAW Patrol: The Movie, Bigfoot Family), who will take on the role of associate producer. Jennifer Dodge, Spin Master Entertainment's President, with Laura Clunie, Spin Master's Senior Vice President Development, Current Series and Feature Film, and Toni Stevens, Spin Master's Senior Vice President, Entertainment Production & Operations, will produce the film. PAW PATROL: THE MIGHTY MOVIE Synopsis
When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The MIGHTY PUPS! For Skye, the smallest member of the team, her new powers are a dream come true. But things take a turn for the worse when the pups' archrival Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with Victoria Vance, a meteor-obsessed mad scientist, to steal the superpowers and turn themselves into supervillains. With the fate of Adventure City hanging in the balance, the Mighty Pups have to stop the supervillains before it's too late, and Skye will need to learn that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference.
