Following launch, new episodes will continue to air regularly on Nick UK & Eire.

In the premiere of The Barbarian and the Troll, "Brendar the Barbarian," Evan the troll decides to burn his bridge and venture out into the world of Gothmoria for the first time to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a singer.  He soon meets Brendar, who had been expelled from the Royal Order of Warrior Princesses and is now known as a “feared and revered” barbarian.  After Evan convinces Brendar to bring him on her quest to vanquish the evil demon, they cross treacherous terrain to confront bizarre and magical creatures and encounter an eclectic puppet cast of wacky characters.

The series stars Spencer Grammer (Rick & Morty) as the voice of Brendar, Gothmoria’s most feared and revered warrior; and Drew Massey (Mutt & Stuff, Sid the Science Kid) as Evan, a bridge troll with a dream of becoming a singer.  Joining Massey as puppeteers and voice talent are Colleen Smith, Allan Trautman, Sarah Sarang Oh, Nicolette Santino, Peggy Etra, James Murray and Jeny Cassady.  The series also features the voice of comedian Gina Yashere.

The Barbarian and the Troll made its world premiere on Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Friday, April 2, and will be rolling out onto Nickelodeon channels globally from Fall 2021.

SpongeBob SquarePants Showcase | Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl | GameMill Entertainment

Learn all about SpongeBob SquarePants' moves and mechanics in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl from Markus Villalobos, developer at Fair Play Labs.

From EventHubs:

The recently shown victory screen for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl featuring SpongeBob and Patrick revealed key details

GameMill Entertainment recently released a video that explained how SpongeBob SquarePants functioned as a fighter in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Towards the end of this video, we got a glimpse at what the victory screen will look like.

As the victor, SpongeBob is seen performing a dance in tune with squeaky sounds. While this is happening, Patrick sits in the background as he's nailing a board to his head.

At the bottom of the screen, 4 options can be seen. By pressing the "A" button, an immediate rematch can be triggered.

Based on the fact that the "X" button is used to go back to the Brawler Select screen, we assume that pressing the "A" button on the Nintendo Switch will allow the players to rematch without the need to return to the character select screen.

In this situation, SpongeBob and Patrick would be the characters used in the rematch. This seems perfect for a tournament setting.

Pressing the "B" button will return to the main menu. It also appears that there is replay functionality as pressing the "Y" button will save the replay of the match that just played out.

Check it all out below:

From EventHubs:

Full breakdown of SpongeBob SquarePants' moveset showcased in video form for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

SpongeBob SquarePants' entire moveset was recently revealed for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl in image form. However, a video would certainly do a better job of explaining the finer details of SpongeBob's attacks and abilities.

As such, GameMill Entertainment released a video earlier today that showcases SpongeBob in action. While the video is playing, a Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl developer explains what's happening through narration.

SpongeBob SquarePants is described as being an "all-rounder" type character. For those familiar with the Super Smash Bros. series, it's not at all surprising to hear that SpongeBob is effectively the Mario in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.

It's quite clear that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is intended to promote aggression and offense over defensive play at high level. Despite this, SpongeBob is shown to have a fairly fast projectile with his neutral special.

However, the developers have designed it so that the projectile can't be spammed too often. Using this projectile too often will cause it to receive an increase in recovery time.

From TheGamer:

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Shares A SpongeBob Deep Dive, Proves He's Spongey Mario

Fireball vs. Bubble Blow.

SpongeBob Squarepants has been given the first gameplay deep dive for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, showing that's basically just a yellow, spongey Mario.

Although GameMill did put out a first look at gameplay earlier in the week that showcased how the game plays, the latest video specifically focuses on SpongeBob and his moveset, as well as showing high-level play with him.

As you'd probably expect, SpongeBob is the starting character of the roster and looks to play very similarly to Smash's iteration of Mario. We get to see all of his normal and heavy attacks in action and, beyond some meme-y references, he's basic enough to be called "a jack-of-all-trades, but a master of none".

Beyond having a downwards spike hit, he's also got tons of air-combo potential and some pretty easy-to-master moves. The biggest resemblance is his neutral special attack, which has him blowing out bubbles that are incredibly similar to Mario's fireballs. To differentiate, SpongeBob's bubbles actually slow down if you use them too many times in a row.

After showcasing all of his special moves, the deep dive then shows what SpongeBob would look like in competitive play, with a few minutes of just beating the snot out of Patrick. His combo potential is pretty limitless, with tons of connecting kicks and punches to keep opponents in the air, and some spikes to bring them all the way back down.

One really cool detail shown from this gameplay trailer is that every character has a unique win and lose animation, as well as a unique animation for starting the battle. We get to see SpongeBob's intro here, which has him being carried in by the realistic sailer's hand, similarly to games like Battle For Bikini Bottom. His victory animation has him doing the dance from Band Geeks, which is pretty great.

Patrick is a bit of a punching bag in this video, so we only get to see his losing animation here. Thankfully, the losing animation is incredible, with Patrick having a board stuck to his head like in My Pretty Seahorse.

ViacomCBS Slated to Name Brian Robbins as New Head of Paramount Pictures (Report)

Nick News Brief: ViacomCBS is expected to name Brian Robbins, President and CEO of Nickelodeon, as the new chairman and chief executive of Paramount Pictures, taking the reins from Jim Gianopulos, will be stepping down.

The move, first reported by the Wall Street Journal on Friday, comes as ViacomCBS is pushing into online streaming to catch up with the likes of Netflix Inc and Walt Disney Co's Disney+.

Robbins is expected to retain his daily oversight of Nick and kids and family content for Paramount+.

New Paramount Chairman and CEO Suggests Big Changes for Paramount+

Brian Robbins is set to become Paramount Pictures’ new Chairman and CEO, and that move is expected to mean big things for Paramount+.

Robbins has a fascinating background. He was one of the original cast members of “Head of the Class,” but he pivoted from acting and rose up the producing ranks to lead Nickelodeon for ViacomCBS. He was also the founder of AwesomenessTV, a teen-focused streaming service that ViacomCBS acquired in 2018.

In October, ViacomCBS made the Co-Founder and CEO of Pluto TV their new President and CEO of ViacomCBS Streaming. The company restructured its leadership again to prioritize streaming in June, and Robbins gained additional power in regard to Paramount+. Robbins approved the “Paw Patrol” movie, which performed well at the box office, despite debuting on Paramount+ at the same time.

Given Robbins’ success with reviving Nickelodeon franchises, insiders expect that he may pivot the company away from a theatrical-heavy slate to a less expensive, broader streaming push. That would be a win for Paramount+ subscribers who haven’t had many direct-to-streaming exclusives worth celebrating. The studio’s big picture tentpoles have been bumped over and over again in response to COVID-19.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in July, Robbins said, “At the beginning of the pandemic, Bob Bakish, myself, George Cheeks, David Nevins, Chris McCarthy, and Jim Gianopulos dove in as the Paramount+ launch was looming. We’ve been working on the streaming strategy for well over a year now,” Robbins said. “But now with a global eye, it does change the eye that we had when we were only thinking linear first.”

As additional young adult content is created for linear and streaming, Robbins plans to keep diversity and inclusion in mind. “Half the audience is diverse. If you’re not serving the whole audience that just doesn’t make great business sense. And it’s the right thing to do, internally and externally,” he said. “We’re very focused on it, on the live-action side, whether it’s our relationship with Tyler Perry, who makes the show Young Dylan for us, or our new show that’s going to launch in September called That Girl Lay Lay starring a young girl who’s a rapper and social media star named Lay Lay and that’s being produced by Will Packer.”

Robbins previously developed Netflix’s “To All the Boys” franchise, Hulu’s “PEN15,” The CW’s “Smallville” and the MTV movie “Varsity Blues.”

In its last quarterly earnings report, ViacomCBS said it added 6.5 million global streaming subscribers with a total of 42 million subscribers worldwide, to all its streaming services, with Paramount+ driving the most growth. At an investor day earlier this year, ViacomCBS said it hoped to be at 65 million to 75 million global streaming subscribers by 2024.

From TheWrap:

Brian Robbins to Replace Jim Gianopulos as Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO

Robbins heads Nickelodeon and founded AwesomenessTV

Brian Robbins, the head of Nickelodeon at ViacomCBS, will replace Jim Gianopulos as chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, TheWrap has learned.

Robbins, the former star of the 1980s sitcom “Head of the Class” who founded AwesomenessTV, has earned a reputation for his youth-oriented content at Nickelodeon since he became president in 2018. He previously oversaw Paramount Players, which produced content for ViacomCBS cable networks like MTV, VH1 and BET.

Robbins will retain his daily oversight of Nick and kids and family content for Paramount+, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

According to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news, the 69-year-old Gianopulos is expected to stay on and assist in the transition. Gianopulos took over at Paramount in 2017 after a lengthy stint at 20th Century Fox, where he was co-chair of filmed entertainment from 2000 to 2012 and was sole chairman until 2016.

Though Gianopulos took over Paramount at a time when the studio was at a low point at the box office, he was responsible for such box office hits as “A Quiet Place” ($340 million worldwide), “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” ($791 million) and the Elton John biopic “Rocketman” ($195 million) as well as for launching the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise, which has a sequel in the works.

In 2019, he signed a multi-year renewal with the studio as Viacom was set to merge with CBS. In recent years, as streaming has become a greater priority and the COVID pandemic impacted both production and distribution, Gianopulos led the effort to license titles intended for theatrical release like “Coming 2 America,” “Without Remorse” and “The Tomorrow War” to Amazon Studios.

He also pushed for the 45-day theatrical window, which has applied to the release of “A Quiet Place – Part II” before it moved to Paramount+. But the studio has also shown a commitment to reserving big titles as theatrical exclusives, recently delaying the releases of two Tom Cruise blockbusters, “Mission: Impossible 7” and “Top Gun Maverick,” into 2022 in response to the spread of the Delta Variant.

ViacomCBS will be looking to Robbins to help compete in the streaming space and raise the stature of its service Paramount+ with a goal of producing more original content. For one, the studio recently released its Nickelodeon film “Paw Patrol: The Movie” simultaneously in theaters and on Paramount+.

###

Jim Gianopulos to Exit Paramount Pictures, Brian Robbins to Take Over as Chairman and CEO

Robbins currently runs kids network Nickelodeon for parent company ViacomCBS.

Jim Gianopulos will be leaving Paramount as chairman and CEO, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Brian Robbins, who currently runs kids network Nickelodeon for parent company ViacomCBS, will take over. A source familiar with the situation says Robbins will continue to oversee Nickelodeon and kids and family content at streaming service Paramount+. The Wall Street Journal first reported the leadership shake-up.

Gianopulos took the reins of Paramount in 2017 after the departure of Brad Grey. He joined the company at a precarious time, following a string of financial failures at the box office, heading the studio following a long tenure at 20th Century Fox Film, which he chaired for 16 years before Stacey Snider was named his successor by Lachlan and James Murdoch.

Under Gianopulos, the studio began to see progress with new franchises like A Quiet Place (nearing $650 million in worldwide grosses) and Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as the continuing of the studio’s storied franchises with Transformers movie Bumblebee and Mission: Impossible – Fallout. As the pandemic exacerbated concern about theatrical windowing, Gianopulos pushed for Paramount releases to hit home entertainment platforms 45 days after they debuted in cinemas. On the executive side, Gianopulos brought in 20th Century Fox film veteran Emma Watts as president, with those inside the studio, according to sources, believing that she would be Gianopulos’ presumed successor.

Robbins, a former actor who starred in ABC sitcom Head of the Class before turning his attention to producing, has been a rising star at Viacom since joining the conglomerate as president of Paramount Players in 2017 to produce films inspired by Viacom brands like Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central. His Paramount Players films include live-action Dora the Explorer movie, What Men Want, and Tiffany Haddish-starrer Nobody’s Fool, before being tapped as president of Nickelodeon in 2018 — reporting to ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish. It was while at Nickelodeon that he greenlit the Paw Patrol feature, which opened this month to a better-than-expected $13 million domestically despite the fact that it also debuted day-and-date on Paramount+.

In June, when ViacomCBS restructured its exec ranks to prioritize streaming, Robbins was among the executives who were given greenlight power at Paramount+ as content chiefs in their respective areas of focus. “We’ll definitely play pitch and catch between linear and streaming,” Robbins said, in an exclusive interview with THR in July, where he outlined his strategy to lean into well-known franchises to reinvigorate Nickelodeon as a global brand for the streaming era.

It is believed that Robbins, the former head of youth-focused film and television entertainment company AwesomenessTV, is more attuned to demands of the streaming age, with Paramount+ becoming the top priority for ViacomCBS. But Robbins’ feature film work is primarily made up of modestly budgeted cross-brand titles, remakes and comedies, and has yet to deal with A-list talent like Tom Cruise and John Krasinski, as well as mega studio budgets. The thinking, one source says, is that Paramount will be scaling back on its theatrical tentpole productions to focus on titles that will service Paramount+.

A spokesperson for ViacomCBS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The 'Mocking SpongeBob' Meme Has Made It Into 'Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl'

SpongeBob SquarePants’ taunt is a meme reference

SpongeBob meme makers rejoice, the developers of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl added a fun Easter egg hidden in SpongeBob SquarePants’ moveset. Thanks to his taunt, you’ll be able to reference a meme anytime you want while playing the game.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is an upcoming fighting game published by GameMill, which features a cast of characters from a slew of the network’s popular shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rugrats, and of course, SpongeBob SquarePants.

The developer released a new gameplay video on Wednesday breaking down how fighting will work. While many of the details were relatively granular, and likely more of interest to competitive players wanting to get a look at how fighting will work, there was one fun detail at the end: SpongeBob SquarePants has a taunt, and it’s a reference to a meme.

While taunting, SpongeBob’s body contorts and his eyes and nose get big. This pose references an incredibly popular meme, “Mocking SpongeBob.” It is perhaps one of the most well-known SpongeBob memes in the SpongeBob meme library, and it’s used specifically to make fun of people. It took off in 2017, which makes it old in meme years, but it has never gone out of style. Oftentimes, people format the text with intercaps to exaggerate the condescending tone of the joke, like in this meme below.

The reference feels fitting given the game hasn’t come out yet, but it’s already become the subject of plenty of memes. It’s just a goofy game where Patrick Star can square down against martial arts masters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and actually win, if the player is good enough.

And what’s more is Nickelodeon shows like SpongeBob have become the subject of memes time and time again. And so now, being able to mock anyone in a game, at any time, feels like a cute little recognition of that and of the fandom to come.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will be released this fall for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Gameplay Trailer Hints at Aang & Korra's Inclusion in Upcoming Game

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl might include Aang and Korra as fighters after a new gameplay trailer showed Avatar-themed map and items.

A new gameplay trailer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl hinted at Aang and Korra’s inclusion on the roster after fans noticed a map and items from the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe. Developers have previously revealed part of the roster for the Nickelodeon fighting game, which includes fan-favorite characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Wild Thornberrys, SpongeBob SquarePants, Rugrats, and other beloved Nickelodeon shows. The game, which is set to release on October 5, is set to have plenty more characters that the developers have yet to reveal. Now fans suspect that Aang and Korra will make it onto the roster.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will allow players to select characters from a large roster of Nickelodeon characters and battle on themed stages from popular shows. Previously, developers revealed stages such as the junkyard from Aaahh!!! Real Monsters and the pirate ship from SpongeBob among others. The developers are also slowly revealing the long list of Nickelodeon characters present in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, having recently revealed April O’Neal and CatDog. Now it’s possible that The Last Airbender characters will be included in that long list.

A new gameplay trailer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl hinted at the possible inclusion of Aang and Korra. In the trailer, SpongeBob, Patrick, April O’Neil, and Leonardo faced off against each other on The Last Airbender-themed stage. In the background, fans can spot Appa, Aang’s loyal sky bison, and the trusty glider leaning on a wall. The stage is clearly inspired by The Last Airbender art, hinting that the two Avatars could appear in the fighting game.

It’s not outrageous for fans to expect Aang and Korra to appear in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. The franchise is massively popular and with a live-action remake on the way, fans will be inching to play as Aang, Korra, or other The Last Airbender characters. While the developers have not yet confirmed that the Avatar or his reincarnation will be on the roster, it would be amazing to wield the incredible powers against other Nickelodeon characters. Both Aang and Korra were also previously spotted on the leaked box art for the game, showing both animated protagonists behind SpongeBob SquarePants and Lincoln Loud.

Both Aang and Korra are perfect for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl because they already have a move set built into their characters. It would be awesome if players could utilize Aang’s airbending and Korra’s waterbending to defeat one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or CatDog. This is especially true given that the developers hope to make the game competitively viable. With the possibility for expansive move sets and dedicated themed stages, it’s likely that Aang and Korra will make an appearance either on the roster at launch or sometime in the near future.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 5, 2021.

The fluffy orange anthropomorphic tabby cat Garfield, the goofy sea sponge from Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob SquarePants and the wacky comic world of Crayon Shinchan have joined hands with JomRun, Southeast Asia’s leading running app, to organize a series of virtual runs.

Partnering with Nickelodeon and Animation International, JomRun is looking to excite experienced runners and entice newbies alike with these unique fun runs that will offer up a wide array of limited edition Garfield, SpongeBob SquarePants and Crayon Shinchan merchandise!

“We are very excited about this collaboration with Nickelodeon and Animation International, and what it will bring to the table for JomRun and the virtual running scene. I have always been a big fan of these iconic characters - Garfield, Crayon Shinchan and SpongeBob SquarePants, and I am sure many Malaysians out there, too. Through this partnership, we hope it opens a new window of opportunity, inspiring new people from all walks of life to take up a healthier lifestyle, through running,” said JomRun’s founder and managing director, Chang Yi Hern.

That’s the message we at JomRun want to amplify. Running isn’t just for fitness buffs anymore. With virtual runs - even a couch potato of Garfield-levels can stay healthy one step at a time and during this pandemic period, I believe that this is one of the most effective ways that people can stay safe while keeping their heart rates up,” said Chang.

Also, this is one of the most effective ways that people can stay safe while keeping their heart rates up,” said Chang Yi Hern, Founder and Managing Director of JomRun.
