eOne Invites New UK Partners to Peppa Pig’s 15th Anniversary Celebrations

Entertainment One has secured new licensing program partners for Peppa Pig in the U.K. as preparations begin for the property’s big 15th anniversary. eOne is planning activities and celebrations in the U.K. throughout 2019, including a nationwide cinema release, live events, retail and product initiatives under the thematic banner “Family Celebrations.” Peppa Pig recently scooped the big Best Classic Licensed Property honor at The Licensing Awards.


Leading the licensing program expansion is Fashion UK, which has been appointed as apparel partner for Peppa Pig with plans to debut a wide range of kids daywear and swimwear in addition to adult nightwear, daywear and underwear which launch at retail from spring/summer 2019.

“Everyone at Fashion UK and Global Licensing is extremely proud and excited to have been appointed as the new Peppa Pig daywear and swimwear licensee from the 1st January 2019,” said Patrick Bailey, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Fashion UK, Global Licensing. “Peppa Pig is a most highly trusted preschool brand and to now be a licensee and able to work with the eOne team to help to ensure Peppa’s continued growth and success, is truly fantastic.”

Also jumping on board are Alfred Franks & Barlett for sunglasses, Dreamtex for wallpaper, Original Candy for shaped lollies, Great British Teepee Company for playhouses and luggage, Enesco for gifting and limited-edition figurines for the anniversary year, Evode Group for apparel and bedding, and Pez for candy. Other partners continue to extend and deepen their offerings, and eOne is strengthening its ties with Yoplait for snacks and retailers Marks and Spencer and Next for apparel.

Anchoring the anniversary celebrations will be a nationwide theatrical release of Peppa Pig: Festival of Fun! beginning Friday 5th April 2019. Continuing to encourage little ones to interact and sing along, the format is designed as a gentle introduction to the cinema, offering fans 10 never-before-broadcast episodes. This includes a two-part festival special and episodes that will introduce new characters, plus exclusive interactive live-action content filmed especially for the release. There will also be live events and location-based entertainment formats, as well as a variety of retail and product initiatives.

Brand partnerships for the year-long Family Celebrations schedule include party themed plush and figures from Character Options, an “Ultimate Collection” of 50 books from Penguin, magazine anniversary specials from Redan, special edition figurines from Enesco, new partyware from Gemma and Fashion UK party themed apparel, with more soon to be announced.


Peppa Pig’s charity collaborations will also ramp up towards the 15th anniversary. eOne will strengthen its partnership with Save the Children by including the brand in the charity’s annual Christmas Jumper Day celebration (Friday 14th December 2018). This year, Paultons Park is creating an exclusive Daddy Pig Christmas jumper as well as exclusive Peppa and George Christmas jumpers available from Amazon Fashion. Ravensburger are also introducing a Christmas themed puzzle, and all the items carry a donation to Save the Children. Plans to accelerate activity for next year’s Muddy Puddle Walk in May are also underway, in addition to the annual Tommy’s Splashathon in summer 2019 with eOne actively seeking retailer partnerships to support these events.

To support the widespread Peppa Pig activity and keep the brand fresh, eOne has made a longstanding commitment to new content. Brand new episodes began airing in 2017 and will continue through to winter 2022.

eOne is bolstering the brand abroad as well, with a Peppa Pig movie co-produced with Chinese distributor Alibaba Pictures set to debut in early 2019, and Alpha Group appointed as master toy partner in the region. New Peppa Pig licensing programs have recently kicked off in Japan, India, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam and Mongolia.

The brand remains highly resilient in the U.K. market, and eOne reports strong performance across all areas this year:

- Character Options’ core toy lines are achieving strong sales at retail with sales uplift of 7% in 2018 compared to the same period in 2017, and there has also been a strong first half of the year (H1 2018) in secondary toy categories for partners such as HTI, MV Sports, Trends and puzzles from new licensee, Ravensburger.

- Redan’s Peppa Pig Bag-O-Fun magazine has seen a year-on-year increase of +10.93%. A total average sale of 85,455 makes it not only the No. 1 best-selling magazine in the pre-school sector, but also in the whole of the children’s sector. In addition, a second magazine title, Fun To Learn Peppa Pig, has reported a year on year increase of +3.44%.

- 2018 titles from publishing partner Penguin have also performed at the top, including sparkly Mother’s Day release I Love You, Mummy Pig (25k copies sold in seven mos.; No. 5 on pre-k charts); lift-the-flap book Peppa Pig at the Zoo (26k sold since May); and Peppa’s Magical Unicorn (37k copies sold since June, No. 1 on pre-k chart).

Peppa Pig began in the UK as a five-minute children’s animated TV series that was first broadcast on Channel 5 in 2004. The TV show is now seen globally, including on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels around the world, including in the UK, Ireland and the USA. In China, the beloved television series made a strong broadcast debut in June 2015 on national broadcaster, CCTV and is now available on multiple leading VOD platforms including Youku, IQIYi and Tencent, where the show has accumulated over 45 billion cumulative views.

OUP Partners with Nickelodeon on 'Dora the Explorer' English Language Teaching Programme

Oxford University Press (OUP) and Viacom/Nickelodeon Consumer Products have entered into a global agreement to provide a new English Language Teaching (ELT) programme targeting young students!


The partnership will produce a rich multimedia experience for three to six-year-olds around the world, aiming to help more than 200,000 children learn English as a foreign language across 30 different countries. The programme is currently in development and targeted for early 2019.

This collaboration is the first of its kind for OUP's ELT division, and is Nickelodeon’s first fully comprehensive ELT product. The story-based programme will use course books, readers, videos, songs, and online materials featuring flagship Nickelodeon characters, including Dora the Explorer, Team Umizoomi, and Blaze and the Monster Machines. Drawing on the OUP's methodology that is trusted by teachers globally, materials will be produced in a range of interactive formats, for use both in the classroom and at home.

An additional range of readers, available in all markets outside North America, will feature Dora plus other brands: Team Umizoomi, and Blaze and the Monster Machines.


As a leading children’s broadcaster, Nickelodeon’s characters have educated and entertained children for decades and their storytelling technique is designed to improve critical thinking abilities. Through the OUP's relationships with primary schools around the world, the Nickelodeon ELT programme will bring fun, engaging content to young learners with characters they know and love. The course will be available worldwide with an initial focus in fast-growing East Asian markets, such as China.

The global market for English language learning is growing, and currently valued at nearly $2.5bn, the announcement said. The British Council forecasts that by 2020, two billon people will be using or learning English, with students learning English as a foreign language at an ever earlier age.

Nickelodeon takes adventure to new heights in the brand-new CG-animated preschool series Top Wing (26 episodes), premiering Saturday 6th October 2018 at 10:00am on Nickelodeon Greece! The action-packed series follows a team of eager young birds as they work together to help their island community, go on amazing adventures and earn their wings as full-feathered rescue birds. Produced by 9 Story Media Group, the show features storylines that help preschoolers build self-confidence, and includes lessons about perseverance and hard work. Following take off, new episodes will air every Saturday and Sunday at 10:00am on Nick Greece.

Top Wing follows four best friend rescue birds–Swift, Penny, Rod and Brody–who are training to earn their wings at the Top Wing Academy on Big Swirl Island. With the help of their mentor Speedy, and unique turbo-charged vehicles and high-tech gadgets, the cadets are assigned different missions to sharpen their rescue skills and help those in need while learning valuable lessons along the way.

In Top Wing’s series premiere, “Time to Earn Our Wings,” cadets-in-training Swift, Penny, Rod and Brody gather at Top Wing Academy where they learn to pilot their new vehicles and become the best rescue team Big Swirl Island has ever seen.

Meet the Top Wing cadets:

  • Swift – A daring and playful blue jay who is the fastest turbo-charged pilot in the sky.
  • Penny – A curious penguin and undersea expert who is always up for a challenge in her super submarine.
  • Rod – An energetic and funny rooster who is ready to fly across the island on his all-terrain vehicle.
  • Brody – A laid-back puffin who loves to fly across, over and on the waves in turbo-charged vehicle.

Nickelodeon Greece Acquires Rights to 'Dragon Ball Super'

Toei Animation Europe and VIZ Media Europe have announced the exciting news that Nickelodeon Greece has acquired the broadcast rights to Toei Animation's hit anime series Dragon Ball Super!


Set following the events in Dragon Ball Z, with Majin Buu defeated, Goku has taken a completely new role as...a radish farmer?! With Earth at peace, our heroes have settled into normal lives. But they can’t get too comfortable. Far away, a powerful destructive deity - the powerful God of Destruction, Beerus - awakens to a prophecy revealing his demise at the hands of an even more formidable being. When his search for the Saiyan God brings him to Earth, can Goku and his friends take on their strongest foe yet? The series will see Goku travel to other universes to face more powerful opponents as well as nearly unstoppable foes.


The anime is a sequel to Toriyama's original Dragon Ball manga and the Dragon Ball Z television series, and features the first new Dragon Ball storyline from original series creator Akira Toriyama in 18 years. The series was broadcast on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. on Fuji TV, running for 131 between July 5, 2015 – March 25, 2018. Dragon Ball Super also airs on Nickelodeon Israel. An animated film, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, is also in the works, and it will be the first film in the Dragon Ball franchise to be produced under the Dragon Ball Super title. The film will be released on December 14, 2018. It will be a continuation to the series that will act as a new arc.

Toei Animation Europe and VIZ Media Europe will also be hosting a exclusive panel presentation dedicated to the rapid growth of the anime in the licensing industry Brand Licensing Europe 2018 in London, UK.

The California-based toyco secured exclusive global rights for toys based on the hit Nick Jr. series



SANTA MONICA, Calif.--On the heels of the successful launch of Becca’s Bunch on Nick Jr. US on September 24, producer and property owner JAM Media has named JAKKS Pacific as the global master toy licensee for the property!

JAKKS has secured the exclusive global rights to produce figurines, playsets and accessories, vehicles, musical instruments, plush (feature and non-feature), every day dress-up, role play, arts & crafts, board games and accessories, Halloween costumes and accessories, outdoor/indoor furniture, wagons, ride-ons, play tents, ball pits, balls and outdoor games, all based on the spritely bird and her group of animal friends. Plush, figurines, musical instruments, vehicles and playsets are planned for a Fall 2019 launch at US retail.

JAKKS joins previously signed Becca’s Bunch licensees Candlewick Press, which has taken publishing rights for the US, and Egmont, which is signed on for publishing in the rest of the world. Both companies are planning a Fall 2019 retail launch in key territories.

“This is a significant deal for us, and we could not have hoped for a better partner than JAKKS,” said JAM Media CEO John Rice. “JAKKS understands the fun and playful nature of Becca’s Bunch as a property, and is translating the huggable and tactile quality of its characters perfectly into a standout line of toys.”

Nickelodeon has secured exclusive broadcast rights to the series in the US and pay-TV rights for the rest of the world. Becca’s Bunch premiered on Nick Jr.’s international channels and platforms in July and in the US in September. In addition, terrestrial broadcasters ABC Australia, CBC Kids (Canada) and France Télévisions (France) have picked up the series for their respective countries.

Becca’s Bunch (52 x 11 minutes) stars a cast of handmade puppet characters and features over 4,000 individually crafted props and set pieces. The series merges live-action footage, puppetry, 2D and CG animation to create a textured world that the audience will want to reach out and touch.

The show centers around Becca, a little bird with a big appetite for adventure, who loves helping her Wagtail Woods neighbors. Though she sometimes bites off more than she can chew, Becca knows that with her friends Russell, Sylvia and Pedro by her side, nothing is impossible. Thinking on their feet, Becca and her Bunch will urge kids to never give up, aim high and have big ideas—because once they do, like Becca, every day will become an adventure.

Nickelodeon GSA to Premiere New Unboxing Game Show 'TOY TOY TOY – Die Unboxing Show' on Saturday 3rd November 2018

Nickelodeon Germany, Switzerland and Austria (GSA) has greenlit a brand-new locally-produced live-action series based on the online phenomenon of unboxing!


TOY TOY TOY – Die Unboxing Show will premiere on Saturday 3rd November 2018 at 19:50 Uhr on Nickelodeon Germany (Deutschland) and at 20:15 Uhr on Nickelodeon Austria (Österreich) and Nickelodeon Switzerland (Schweiz). Subsequent new episodes will continue to air every Saturday and Sunday evening in the same timeslots.

Hosted by Nickelodeon presenter Sascha Quade, the game show-esque format will pit two pairs of players (for example, mother and daughter vs. father and son, siblings vs. best friends, etc) against one another in a timed challenge to dig out an unknown toy from a giant box, which is easier said than done, as when it's time for "extreme unboxing", contestants will suddenly find themselves playing the game whilst wearing a T-Rex costume! Once the desired toy has been found and finally unpacked, it will naturally put through its pace. The most skilful team will win more points and the chance to enter the TOY TOY TOY final. Here, the winning team will move on to tackle a huge pyramid of packages within a time limit; whatever they open, they get to keep. So, on your marks, ready .... TOY TOY TOY! TOY TOY TOY – Die Unboxing Show will feature a broad spectrum of toys, for current kid favourites to toys that their parents and grandparents played with when they were growing up.

TOY TOY TOY – Die Unboxing Show is being produced in-house by Nickelodeon GSA and Starship Tube, a division of Starship Film GmbH. Nickelodeon GSA launched a search for contestants to take part in the new game show in July 2018.

'Nickelodeon Kart Racers' Gets New Slime System [Updated]

GameMill Entertainment today shared more details about their newest title Nickelodeon Kart Racers!


Nickelodeon Kart Racers is a multi-player console racing game that features iconic Nickelodeon animated characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rugrats, Hey Arnold! and more, as they race on 24 different Slime-themed tracks, using slime to help them get ahead, while also causing other folks to slip up -- and maybe even get slimed! The game is rated E for Everyone in North America and PEGI 3 in the UK and Europe, and will be available on PlayStation®4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch™ worldwide for holiday 2018.

GameMill today revealed the new slime system that will be implemented into Nickelodeon Kart Racers. And, yep, it’s about as gooey as you’d expect it to be!

Update (9/28) - The games official listing page on the Nintendo Switch store has revealed that the Nintendo Switch version of Nickelodeon Kart Racers will be 525 MB.


"The iconic Nickelodeon green slime, which made its debut in 1979, plays a critical role on the race track. Players will fill their slime bar by driving over the fluorescent green goo to activate speed boosts. Slime patches come in many shapes and sizes and do not come without risk; it is very slippery, so watch out! Other patches are so big, your kart will transform into a jet ski! If you're lucky, you might just unlock a shortcut. Thanks to the slime valve and item boxes, you never know when your favorite Nickelodeon character might get slimed!"

Whatever you do, don’t say, “I don’t know” around these guys, because chances are you’re going to get covered in green slime.

- Slime overload will have you turning you Karts into jet-ski racers!

You can get “slimed” for yourself when Nickelodeon Kart Racers releases worldwide on all major consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch) on October 23 for $39.99 USD / £29.99 GBP / €39.99!

Update (9/30): Nickelodeon Kart Racers will only allow local battles, and the characters revealed during the game’s initial announcement will comprise of the full roster.

The PlayStation blog posted a write-up on some of the upcoming features of the very fun looking Nickelodeon Kart Racers. In the comments section of the blog, some further details about the racing game emerged.

Adam Johnston, the Creative Director of Bamtang Games, responded to some fans’ questions about Nickelodeon Kart Racers.

In speaking of online play, Johnston stated “We have made this game for 4 x local multiplayer to be able to maximize the features for most players. If we had gone with online-multiplayer then we would have had to nerf some aspects of pickups, attacks and Arena mode combat to account for lag. By keeping the gameplay local, we are able to make the game better for local multiplayer, which we think is the majority of kart racing sessions. Racing in multiplayer mode is fun, but the three different Arena battle modes seemed to be the favorite with testers.”

Johnston then went on to clarify what the character roster would be for Nickelodeon Kart Racers. As fan Rider8D related, there has been “some confusion on whether there are 12 characters in the game or if there are 12 represented franchises in the game.”

To clarify, Johnston responded “Hi Rider8D[,] 12 playable characters. thanks for asking”.

When asked if there are going to be any other characters brought in through DLC, Johnston stated that fans should “Keep asking! The more you ask, the more likely DLC will happen! We have a load of characters that we’d love to add to this game too.”

While the news of the game not having online play and a smaller roster than we initially thought, I’m still excited to pick up the inevitably fun Nickelodeon Kart Racers. The game releases on October 23 for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, and retails for a reasonable $39.99.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers is developed by Bamtang, and will be distributed by Maximum Games in the UK and Europe.

How Slime is Used to Great, Gross Effect in Nickelodeon Kart Racers

This kid-friendly kart racer includes familiar Nickelodeon characters, creative tracks, and plenty of that signature green slime.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers is a kart racer featuring characters and slime-filled tracks from iconic Nickelodeon shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Hey Arnold!, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and more) that’s meant to be accessible for younger kids while also remaining a challenge for nostalgic, older players. It’s a classic kart racer, but has quite a few innovative features that have been fun to work on and are even more fun to play.

Though our team had not worked with these characters before in a game, our whole team knows and loves them. Our group ranges from 22 to 45 years old, so we all have fond memories of the same iconic characters.

This game is a mixed-universe game and that kind of game needs something to glue the different IPs together (pun intended)! A great symbol of Nickelodeon’s irreverent humor and crazy antics is the iconic green slime. I remember seeing someone slimed for the first time, during the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Watching celebrities get unexpectedly slimed is one of the most exciting parts of the show and how can that not be a great game mechanic?

Nickelodeon shows have featured slime for over 30 years and it has never lost its popularity and appeal. My eight-year-old daughter was watching slime-making videos on the internet before we started on this game. It jumped out at us as a way that the game could scream Nickelodeon, have a super fun device for game mechanics and attract a younger audience that loves slime.

In 1990, Nickelodeon Studios opened in Orlando, Florida. Visitors are greeted by a Slime Geyser that erupts with Slime every 15 minutes.

Bright green slime is a great visual and it shows up throughout the tracks, making them interesting and varied, while still being intuitive. Slime fills your kart’s turbo meter, which can activate a speed boost so getting slimed can really determine who wins the race. The karts can even sail like a jet ski on top of slime pools! That creates a change in mechanics and visually looks awesome. Slime pickups and triggers give players secondary objectives and, of course, in true Nickelodeon fashion, you can’t stand on the winners’ podium without your racer getting covered in slime! The Vector Unit game engine supports water racing, so we saw that as a great opportunity to introduce a different racing experience. Your kart will transform into a jet ski and it’s easy to get turbo charged when sailing on slime. Plus, the areas are wide open, so you can go really fast.

In 2010 Katy Perry received one of the most epic Slime-ings in history while presenting at the Kids Choice Awards. The pressure of the blast was so high; it knocked her off her feet.

The important thing that kids have quickly figured out in play-testing is that slime helps the player; in their feedback, they’ve given the slime more importance than any other feature. They enjoy how it looks, behaves and is used in the game which makes us feel great because that’s what we have strived for.

We were super worried that slime would be a big challenge to technically embody so we used Nickelodeon’s special slime recipe to make a few gallons of slime for real, which was a lot of fun. Kids are no fools and they know the difference between slime and green water, so we had to study every element of the goo to truly capture the slime in-game.

Our FX and graphics programmers spent a crazy amount of time perfecting the virtual slime. There are over ten different kinds of slime art, including wavy slime pools, puddles, pipes, spray, splashes and more. Most are done with a mix of procedural particles, shaders and textures, sprites and UV maps. The extra effort was worth it; we’re really proud of the result.

NEW YORK--Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA) today announced the appointment of Brian Robbins as President of Nickelodeon, effective immediately. Robbins will report directly to Bob Bakish, President and Chief Executive Officer of Viacom.

In his new role, Robbins will manage the creative and business operations at Nickelodeon and will be responsible for evolving the brand for a new generation of young audiences, including further bolstering its content pipeline through a mix of new and legacy franchises, and accelerating its push into next-generation platforms and feature film.

Robbins most recently served as President of Paramount Pictures’ Paramount Players division, where he worked closely with Nickelodeon and Viacom’s other brands to identify talent and properties to be developed into co-branded feature films. In his new role, Robbins will remain integrally involved in the development, production and marketing of all Nickelodeon co-branded films with Paramount Players, including Dora the Explorer, Rugrats, Are You Afraid of the Dark? and other current projects.

With Robbins’ appointment to Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures is commencing a comprehensive search for a successor to lead Paramount Players. In the interim, Wyck Godfrey, President of Paramount Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, will oversee day-to-day operations at Paramount Players, with support from Robbins during a transition period.

Bakish said, “Brian is a creative powerhouse who has spent his career on the frontlines of our industry, anticipating and driving changes in television, film and digital media. With his unmatched credentials in kids’ entertainment and his firsthand knowledge of Nickelodeon, I have asked Brian to drive the innovation and transformation that will ensure the brand remains the dominant force with young audiences.”

Robbins said, “Nickelodeon is one of the entertainment industry’s most vibrant and groundbreaking brands, with iconic properties, a deep culture of creativity and invention, and an incredibly talented team of kids’ entertainment professionals. I’m thrilled to return to Nickelodeon and draw on its many strengths – including its rich library and rapidly growing studio production business – to deliver must-see content to kids on every platform around the world. During this time of upheaval in big media, I can’t wait to disrupt the disrupters.”

Prior to leading Paramount Players, Robbins co-founded the multi-platform media company Awesomeness in 2012 and served as Chief Executive Officer. Robbins also co-founded the production company Tollins/Robbins Productions and was the Founder and President of Varsity Pictures. In this role, he executive produced numerous television hits for teens and young audiences, including the popular Nickelodeon series Kenan & Kel and All That, the latter of which Robbins adapted into the Nickelodeon feature film Good Burger. Robbins also executive produced Blue Mountain State for Spike TV (now Paramount Network) and produced and/or directed the Paramount films Varsity Blues, Coach Carter and Hardball. His other credits include the television series Smallville and One Tree Hill for CW, and Disney Channel’s Sonny with a Chance and So Random. His film credits include Disney’s Wild Hogs and The Shaggy Dog; DreamWorks’ Norbit and A Thousand Words; and Sony Pictures’ Radio.

Robbins is the recipient of a Directors Guild Award, a Peabody Award and the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Pioneer Prize. He is also an Emmy Award nominee.
