Brand Central to Rep Nickelodeon and MGM's ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader’ Reboot

Nickelodeon and MGM Television have appointed Brand Central as the licensing agency for their upcoming revival of the family favorite game show, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, License Global reports!

Brand Central represented the game show during its initial run between 2007 to 2015. The agency oversaw the series’ licensing program that generated more than $175 million (USD) in retail sales. For the reboot, Brand Central is building an all-new consumer products program with licensing partners in verticals including toys, games, publishing and educational products.

“With one of the most game-changing shows, Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader is coming back bigger and better than ever; we are excited that Brand Central will be returning and helping us secure best-in-class partners,” says Robert Marick, executive vice president, global consumer products, MGM. “Brand Central’s expertise will be critical for us in the development of a unique and exciting merchandise program.”

The rebooted series will feature all-new episodes hosted by WWE superstar John Cena, who will also serve as an executive producer. The new Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader follows the original’s premise of adult contestants putting their knowledge to the test by answering questions taken directly from a standard elementary school curriculum. This updated version will also include new game elements such as an additional “cheat” option, new ways contestants can enlist the help of their grade-school classmates as well as a timed “final exam.”

The new Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader will launch on Nickelodeon USA with a week of premieres beginning Monday, June 10, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT). Hosted by John Cena, who also serves as executive producer, the new series follows the original premise of kids helping adult contestants put their knowledge to the test with questions taken directly from an elementary school curriculum. New episodes will continue to air Monday, June 17, through Wednesday, June 19, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT), before moving to its regular Monday timeslot on June 24 at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT).

Joining Cena this season is a rotating cast of 12 brainy fifth graders: Amira from Orlando, Fla.; Chloe from Queens, N.Y.; Colin from Dallas; Cooper from Porter Ranch, Calif.; Isabella from St. Cloud, Fla.; Jamir from Atlanta; Mia from New Orleans; Nick from Broomall, Pa.; Patrick from Lehigh Valley, Pa.; Quinne from Los Angeles; Saya from Peachtree City, Ga.; and Tristan from Aurora, Ill.

Nickelodeon announced plans to revive Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader as part of Nickelodeon's 2019 Upfront, and forms part of the network's slate of new programming for the whole family.

Nick’s insights reveal that family time is the most important passion point for kids and parents today, with their top priority being to spend time together and look for opportunities through shared experiences. Today’s families state that watching TV together is their favorite activity, corresponding to the current 10-year high in co-viewing, where 44% of kids’ viewing is with an adult. To capture co-viewing opportunities, Nick is producing shows with built-in appeal to every family member, including: The Substitute (hidden camera prank show), Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader (reboot), Are You Afraid of the Dark? (revival miniseries) and All That (revival).

For the reboot of Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader, Mark Burnett, Chairman of Worldwide Television, MGM (Survivor, The Voice) and Barry Poznick, President, Unscripted Television, MGM (Beat Shazam, The World's Best) will return as executive producers of the reboot, which places kids squarely in the center of the action. Rainbow Picks JLG to Rep ‘44 Cats’ in the U.S.; Toy Plus Partners with Bandai America to Distribute ‘44 Cats’ in North America

Rainbow has tapped The Joester Loria Group (JLG) to represent the 44 Cats animated series in the U.S. The appointment follows recent series deals with Nickelodeon for the broadcast of the series in the U.S., following a strong launch on Nickelodeon channels around the world.

“We are really pleased to announce The Joester Loria Group is on board for 44 Cats, and can’t wait to start our collaboration with such a brilliant partner to develop the brand’s huge potential across the U.S.,” says Cristiana Buzzelli, senior vice president, content and licensing, Rainbow Group.

Additionally, Bandai America has been appointed by master toy partner Toy Plus to distribute their full range of 44 Cats toys in the U.S., Canada and Australia markets. A collection including figurines, play sets, plush, and musical toys will debut at retailers early next year. Simba Dickie Group’s is the exclusive distributor for Europe and the Middle East.

“We’re really excited to launch the 44 Cats toy line to the U.S. and Canada,” says Shusuke Takahara, CEO at Bandai America. “Over the last year, we’ve been looking at new lines to distribute and couldn’t be happier to partner with companies like Rainbow and Toy Plus. From figurines to plush, we can’t wait to see consumer reactions as they collect toys from the adventurous and adorable TV show.”

Set in the world of animals, 44 Cats (52 eps x c. 13') follows the daily adventures of Lampo, Milady, Pilou, and Meatball – four adorable kittens who are part of a music band named The Buffycats.

The protagonists live and play in the Clubhouse, a garage beside old Granny Pina’s house. Their adventures explore the themes of friendship and altruism: the four cats love helping others and always find creative solutions to everyday hitches and help other cats in need. The series promotes positive attitudes and conveys educational messages dealing with important themes such as tolerance, diversity and solidarity in a funny way.

The series is created and directed by Iginio Straffi, the founder of Italian content powerhouse Rainbow Group, the makers of Winx Club and Regal Academy, and produced by Rainbow in collaboration with Antoniano Bologna and Rai Ragazzi.

This eagerly anticipated show made its world debut on Rai Yoyo in Italy on Monday 12th November 2018. Nickelodeon International acquired the broadcast rights to the series in May 2018, and will roll the animated series out on Nickelodeon channels and branded blocks around the world, excluding Latin America, throughout 2019.

Nickelodeon USA will premiere 44 Cats on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 10 a.m. (ET/PT). Following launch, new episodes will continue to air weekdays at 10 a.m. (ET/PT).

44 Cats is inspired by the very popular Italian kids song "44 Gatti", which, in 1968, won the 10th edition of the Zecchino d'Oro and has since entered the collective imagination of Italians.

44 Cats is the first Rainbow Group production jointly developed with Bardel Entertainment, the Canadian animation studio it acquired in 2015, and jointly produced in collaboration with Antoniano Bologna and Rai Ragazzi, and combines great music and edutainment with high quality animation. The series also marks Rainbow’s (Winx Club, Regal Academy, Club 57, Mia and me, Maggie & Bianca Fashion Friends) inaugural foray into preschool programming.

Rainbow inked a licensing deal for 44 Cats with Thai Group’s Hong Kong-based company, Toy Plus in August 2018. Under the terms of the agreement, Toy Plus will develop a variety of products including interactive plush, figurines, play sets, musical toys and more based on the music, creative play patterns and collectability featured in the series. The line of merchandise debuted in Hong Kong in October, and is slated to become available for purchase around the world in fall 2019.

Rainbow has also secured a new licensing deal for 44 Cats with holistic lifestyle company Artsana Group. Under the agreement, the company will develop a range of licensed 44 Cats-themed infant educational toys for infants and a nursing line under its Chicco brand, the largest infant brand in Europe. The deal also includes apparel and accessories collections by Prenatal and Chicco. Products are expected to hit retail shelves later this year and will be supported by a dedicated, high-level marketing campaign delivered jointly by Rainbow and Artsana Group, which is also based in Italy.

44 Gatti become the most watched Italian-produced cartoon of 2018 when it debuted on Rai Yoyo on Monday 12th November 2018, recording record ratings of 527,000 viewers and a 2.71% audience share, helping Rai Yoyo to continue to be the most watched children's channel in Italy! Since its debut, 44 Gatti has also held the record for the highest viewing share amongst children aged 4-7 years, reaching 16% and an average audience of 350,000 viewers in the 19.15 timeslot.

BOOM! Studios Reveals New Power Rangers Solar Ranger Designs

For the first time, fans can check out the designs of BOOM! Studios’ Solar Rangers – as seen in the comic book publisher’s Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers series!

Six Solar Rangers debut in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #39, which releases in May 2019. And their designs are based off the six Power Rangers who have been featured in the Power Rangers: Beyond The Grid storyline that has been running for the past eight months.

The six Rangers include Power Rangers Zeo's Yellow Ranger, Power Rangers In Space's Red Ranger, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy's Magna Defender, Power Rangers Ninja Storm's Green Ranger, Power Rangers Dino Charge's Dark Ranger, and the Ranger Slayer from BOOM! Studios’ comic books.

Together, these six Rangers tap into the power of the mighty Solarix to morph into Solar Rangers – complete with new weapons, and Zords!

Fans can check out all six Solar Ranger designs below.

Tanya wields an upgraded pair of nunchuks with blades at both ends. Andros now wields a sword instead of his spiral saber. Mike the Magna Defender also wields a blade, with a gun feature attached to the sword’s base. Heckyl wields an electric boomerang. Kimberly wields and upgraded bow complete with energy enforcement. And Cam will continue to wield a ninja sword.

The issue in which the Solar Rangers debut will conclude the Power Rangers: Beyond The Grid storyline.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #39 will be the final issue before Ryan Parrott takes over the series with Power Rangers: Necessary Evil, the newest storyline.

Power Rangers: Necessary Evil will bring back the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team of Jason, Billy, Zack, Trini, Kimberly, and Tommy – and revolve around the fallout of Power Rangers: Shattered Grid. Plus, the White Ranger will make his long awaited comic book series debut!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #39 will be written by writer Margurite Bennett, and designed by artist Simone De Meo.

The post-SHATTERED GRID storyline, titled “Beyond The Grid”, follows a new team of Rangers – Andros (Red Ranger, Power Rangers In Space), Mike (Magna Defender, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy), Tanya (Yellow Ranger, Power Rangers Zeo), Cam (Green Ranger, Power Rangers Ninja Storm), Ranger Slayer, and the mysterious Talon Ranger (now named the Dark Ranger) from Power Rangers Dino Charge.

Shout! Announces 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' Season 3 Steelbook Edition

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are back, and ready to own – again!

Shout! Factory is releasing the complete third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in a special, Steelbook edition package. Featuring the original Red Ranger helmet, the brand new packaging can be seen above.

The announcement follows in the footsteps of Shout! Factory’s release of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie on Blu-ray, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1 on Steelbook DVD, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2 on Steelbook DVD.

Power Rangers: New Beast Morphers Toys Spotlight Armor Upgrades, Villains, and More

Power Rangers fans have already started seeing new Beast Morphers toys hit their local stores, but now we have some high res photos of the anticipated wave, which will bring more villains, Beast Bots, and more to store shelves. The new photos come courtesy of Power Ranger Talk, and as you can see below the wave will allow fans to finally complete their Beast Bot set with Jax, and fans are absolutely going to love those shoulder carrots. If you've been waiting to add the lovable rabbit to your crew of Smash and Cruise, you're in luck.

You can also see the Silver Ranger Steel in all his glory, who will come with a blaster and a claw weapon as well as his Morph-X key. If the actual figure looks half as good as it does in the photo, this might be my favorite of the line, but we'll have to wait and see.

Fans can also get their first look at some new Red Ranger upgrade armor, which will be called Red Fury Mode. The upgrade gives the Red Ranger extra leg, arm, and chest armor, and he also gets a claw weapon he can wield as well as the Cheetah Blade.

The biggest addition in this wave though is Roxy, as Blaze was available in the first set. The delightfully evil character comes with several weapons and a Morph-X key, but you can also pick up the villain Drilltron in wave 2 to carry out her orders.

Nickelodeon Russia Invites Viewers To Vote For What They Want To Watch With 'Дню самоуправления' 2019

Every year, Nickelodeon Russia (Россия) declares the 1st June as Дню самоуправления, a day in which Nickelodeon hands over the airwaves to kids, allowing viewers to pick that days schedule via online voting, and this year, Дню самоуправления is back, bigger and better than ever before!

For Дню самоуправления 2019, kids can choose Nickelodeon's schedule for Saturday 1st June 2019 in two stages:

-- Between Tuesday 7th and Monday 20th May 2019, kids can visit the official Дню самоуправления website, and choose which shows they want to watch on Saturday 1st June 2019, selecting one show for each hour of the broadcast day.

- Additionally, whilst on the Дню самоуправления 2019 website, children across Russia are invited to create and tell Nick about their dream animated series. The winning ideas for a brand-new animated series will win a brand-new tablet for drawing with!

-- Between Tuesday 21st and Monday 27th May 2019, viewers will be invited to visit and vote for their favourite fan-made schedules, with the results determining the final schedule for Saturday 1st June 2019!

Everyone who participates will receive a special Programme Director's Certificate, and every 100th participant will receive a exclusive puzzle featuring fan-favourite Nickelodeon characters!

2019 marks the sixth anniversary of Nickelodeon's Дню самоуправления campaign, timed to coincide with International Children's Day. Such an initiative allows the channel to better understand the preferences of its young viewers, giving them the opportunity to choose their favourite programmes for one whole day, as well as helping them better understand the profession of program director.

С 7 по 20 мая зрители Nickelodeon Россия смогут составить собственную телепрограмму и увидеть результаты своей работы в эфире телеканала в первый день лета. Чтобы проголосовать за любимые передачи, детям предложат зайти на сайт и выбрать по одному шоу на каждый час. Мальчики и девочки также получат возможность принять участие в творческом конкурсе — для этого им будет нужно придумать и описать идею своего мультсериала.

Jakarta - Libur Lebaran sudah mulai terasa. Untuk memeriahkannya, Dunia Fantasi (Dufan) menghadirkan hiburan baru untuk keluarga.

Tokoh kartun Spongebob Squarepants hadir di Jakarta dan didatangkan langsung dari Amerika Serikat. Pertunjukannya bisa disaksikan sejak 25 Mei lalu hingga 16 Juni nanti.

Karena didatangkan langsung dari Negeri Paman Sam, beberapa tokoh diperankan oleh warga asing. Misalnya saja sang kapten bajak laut. Namun ada juga pemeran lainnya yang berasal dari Tanah Air.

"Ini pertama kali di Indonesia. Kita namakan Spongebob Golden Show. Kita datangkan langsung dari Amerika, Nickelodeon," kata Div Head Dunia Fantasi, Eddy Prastiyo di Ancol, Jakarta, Selasa (28/5/2019).

"Pemeran memang mix ada yang memang langsung dari sana ada yang penari-penari dari lokal, pemeran-pemeran utama langsung dari sana," sambungnya.

Total ada empat tokoh yang disajikan dalam pertunjukan ini, yakni Spongebob, Patrick, Squidward, dan kapten bajak laut yang menjadi pemandunya, ditambah penari latar.

Aksi Spongebob dan kawannya tersebut bisa disaksikan sebanyak dua kali setiap hari. Jadwal pertama berlangsung pada pukul 13.00 WIB dan kedua pukul 15.00 WIB.

Pertunjukan berdurasi selama 30 menit. Selama berlangsung, penonton terutama anak-anak diajak untuk berinteraksi baik bersorak dan menari. Setelah selesai, mereka pun bisa berfoto bersama para tokoh Spongebob Squarepants.

Eddy mengatakan sejauh ini animo pengunjung terhadap pertunjukan Spongebob ini cukup ramai.

"Kalau kapasitas panggung di Spongebob itu sekitar 500-an. Per hari sampai 750-an (pengunjung) dalam dua kali show," pungkasnya. (prf/mpr)

Speakers Announced for Women in Animation World Summit at Annecy

LOS ANGELES and PARIS -- Women in Animation (WIA) and Les Femmes s’Animent (LFA) are pleased to announce the program lineup and initial list of speakers for the third Women in Animation World Summit, in conjunction with the Annecy International Animation Festival and MIFA 2019. The theme of this year’s Summit is “Belonging.”

The Women in Animation World Summit, taking place on Monday, June 10th at the Impérial Palace Hotel (Allée de l'Impérial, 74000 Annecy), will feature a day-long symposium of panels and discussions spotlighting top executives, filmmakers and artists from around the world covering a range of topics affecting women working in the animation industry today. As with last year’s summit, this year’s event will be livestreamed.

Julie Ann Crommett, Vice President of Multicultural Audience Engagement at the Walt Disney Studios and WIA Secretary, will kick off the summit and introduce the day’s theme of “Belonging,” the feeling of being personally accepted, respected, included and supported in your workplace.

The day will lead with a presentation by Dr. Stacy L. Smith, who will announce the results of the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative’s landmark study focused on women in the animation industry, entitled “Increasing Inclusion in Animation.” The study was conducted in partnership with Women in Animation and examines the percentage of women working in key animation roles in film and television, the barriers and opportunities facing women as they pursue careers in animation, and the classroom-to-career pipeline for women.

“As the leading voice in the advocacy of women in animation, we had a desire to pair with a highly-respected research institution,” says Women in Animation President Marge Dean. “For the last year, we have had the honor and privilege to collaborate with Dr. Smith and USC Annenberg on this groundbreaking study. We look forward to bringing the findings of this important study to the Annecy Animation Festival, the most important global gathering of the animation industry, and discussing next steps with leaders in the world of animation from then on.”

Dr. Smith, Founder and Director of the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, commented, “Partnering with Women in Animation allowed us to engage in a broad investigation of the animation industry to understand the particular challenges facing women, animation companies, and educational organizations at this juncture. We are excited to share the results of the study and to work together to create solutions that move the industry forward and accelerate change.”

In the afternoon, WIA Vancouver’s Chair, Rose-Ann Tisserand, will present WIA Vancouver and Women in View’s “BC’s Five in Focus: Animation,” a program featuring the chapter’s innovative program to aid five women across various filmmaking roles – screenwriting, directing, producing, art direction and animation direction – in creating original animated shorts.

The day will close with a keynote presentation given by the French actress/producer, Julie Gayet. Gayet will talk about her advocacy for women in general and in the film business and share insights from the making of her film, Cinéast(e)s.

In addition to these key presentations, the Summit will also feature a series of panels throughout the day focused on the theme of “Belonging.” These panels will include:

In “Creating an Environment of Belonging,” a distinguished panel of top male leaders in the field will engage in a discussion of ally-ship and how men can help to drive the gender inclusion conversation forward. The panel will speak from personal experience, sharing what they’re doing to make change. Moderated by Dean, who is also Head of Crunchyroll Studios, speakers will include:

Additionally, WIA and Les Femmes s’Animent (LFA) will once again host a series of breakfast meetings open to all badge-holders (Festival and MIFA) from Tuesday, June 11 to Friday, June 14 from 8:30-10:00am at the Chill Out Zone at MIFA (Espace Détente). These meetings will be informal and inspiring gatherings dedicated to promoting and building a better place for women in animation. Upcoming market during Annecy is set to break all previous attendance and size records with over 700 exhibitors inside a bigger exhibition platform, VR area, Buyer’s Club and new conference room.
