Joe Pasquale Unveils "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"-Themed Re-Imaginings Of Renaissance Masterpieces At London's National Gallery

To celebrate Nicktoons UK and Ireland premiering and showing brand new episodes from "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" season 3 every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30am, Nickelodeon UK and Tin Man Communications commissioned comedian, actor, television presenter and "King of the Jungle" Joe Pasquale to reimagine original Renaissance masterpieces with a "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" theme, which Joe and Nickelodeon unveiled today, Tuesday 10th February 2015, outside the National Gallery in London's Trafalgar Square!

Nick UK and Joe Pasquale's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" artwork comes after a recent study by Nickelodeon UK revealed while we might think of ourselves as cultured, Londoners don't know all that much about art. Despite the wealth of free art galleries in London, one in 10 men think Delacroix is a fashion brand and nearly a fifth of women think Botticelli is an Italian opera singer. The study also found more people know Donatello as a Ninja turtle than as a sculptor and 5 per cent of Londoners think the 16th century Italian painter Caravaggio is a type of frothy coffee. The survey also found that Brits 'draw' their cultural knowledge from a variety of unusual places including popular TV shows from when they were young. In fact, more than half of those who grew up watching the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" are able to correctly associate the turtles' names to the painters which means that the crime-fighting Turtle version of Donatello is more well-known than the 1th-century sculptor!

In a interview with London Live's Luke Blackall at the National Gallery, Joe Pasquale talks about how "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" fans are being taught about art just by watching Nickelodeon's hit animated series, about about how his mentor Bob Monkhouse introduced him to Henri Matisse. London Live also does some Vox Pops with the public to see how much they know about art!:

The paintings will be sold at auction to raise money for Nickelodeon's chosen charities – Family Action, TRACKS autism and KidsOut!

Check out more Turtley Awesome pictures from the unveiling of Joe Pasquale's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"-themed interpretations of Renaissance Masterpieces, which feature some recognisable features from the animated series including the turtles' colourful eye masks and their favourite grub – pizza, at the National Gallery in London's Trafalgar Square below!:

UPDATE: Nickelodeon UK has unveiled a special video in which Joe Pasquale talks about his "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" inspired artwork! The video also features a interview with Jon Preston, the creative director at Nickelodeon UK:

Comedian Joe Pasquale recreates classic Renaissance artworks to launch season three of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Nickelodeon UK on Vimeo.

To celebrate the launch of season three of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nicktoons, comedian Joe Pasquale has shown us this artistic side and 're-mastered' four classic paintings from the original Italian artists after whom the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are named. Pasquale unveiled these paintings outside the National Gallery, home to the UK’s largest collection of Renaissance art.

Catch the all-new third season of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", continuing the shell-raising crime-fighting adventures of the four mutant Heroes in a Half-Shell turtles — Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo - every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30am on NickToons UK and Ireland, and follow #pasqualepaints on social media for more great TMNT artwork from Joe Pasquale!
