Nickelodeon Star Nicole Alyse Nelson Talks About Starring In 'I Am Frankie' And Growing Up A Nick Kid

Nickelodeon has an incredible track record for recognizing young talent and serving as a springboard to the pop culture mainstays of tomorrow. The recent generation of megastars spawned at the channel include Ariana Grande, and if history continues to repeat itself at the home that kid's built, Nicole Alyse Nelson of the series I Am Frankie will be another future success story who got her start at the network.

TrunkSpace recently sat down with Nelson to discuss how she grew up idolizing Nickelodeon, what she loves about her character Dayton, and why juggling a career at her age feels perfectly normal.

TrunkSpace: I Am Frankie has been airing for about a month now. Where has it impacted your life most?

Nelson: It’s been a fast and furious month. I’ve really only seen an increase in social media. I still haven’t been stopped in public or anything, but my family and my friends have been extremely supportive. All I’m hearing is really good responses about how the show is impacting kids in positive ways. It’s just a lot of really, really nice feedback.

TrunkSpace: Were you somebody who grew up watching Nickelodeon shows?

Nelson: Oh my gosh, yes! That is one of the main reasons I was so thrilled about even going in for this project. Growing up, I was actually always more like a Nickelodeon kid. Of course, I watched Disney Channel, but my heart really lied with Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, and Ned’s Declassified. To be on a network that I truly idolized as a kid is absolutely insane.

TrunkSpace: It’s kind of like paying it forward. They entertained you, and now you’re entertaining a new generation.

Nelson: Exactly. And another thing that I’m trying to do with that is, when I was really big into it, social media wasn’t really a thing like it is today. If I was in love with Ashley Tisdale or something, there was no way I could see what she was doing unless I bought a magazine. So now social media being the way that it is, I’m really trying to have a relationship with my fans and like all of their content, and be able to send out autographs and do stuff that I always wished I could have done when I was that age.

TrunkSpace: You mention Ashley Tisdale, and you look at the people who have come out of Nickelodeon shows, from Ariana Grande [...] and all of these big, huge stars. Do you ever think about what you’re doing now in terms of what it could become for your future career down the road?

Nelson: Oh, absolutely. That’s the goal. I truly love what I do, and I hope that it continues for years to come. A lot of these stars as well are very talented singers. My goal isn’t so much to be a pop star, but continue along like the Emily Osment path, or Jenette McCurdy. Really just focus on acting, that’s the goal.

TrunkSpace: What was it that first drew you to Dayton as a character?

Nelson: The second I saw the breakdown for Dayton, I was in love. The breakdown had three females. It had Frankie, Dayton, and Tammy. Tammy’s kind of a mean girl, Frankie of course is a robot, and Dayton is just unapologetically herself. She is confident, she is intelligent. She is the expressive, charismatic best friend. She’s just a fun role. She’s the kind of character that I knew, upon reading four pages of the script, that if I book this I would never know what they would give me the next day. She’s the character that does crazy stunts and spits out food. She’s just insane, so she’s a lot of fun to play.

TrunkSpace: Does the comedy aspect of performance come natural to you in terms of timing and delivery?

Nelson: Comedy has always come pretty natural to me. I’m not going to say that I haven’t had to train and study, because comedy is all about timing and the way you say things. I did have to learn that, but it’s really been a natural instinct. I naturally have a really sharp tongue, meaning I’m really kind of quirky in the way that I use my hands a lot, and I naturally make reversals in my voice. I was always told growing up, even my theater teacher was like, “I’ve never seen a style as sharp as yours.” It’s kind of perfect that I got into kids multi-cam, because that’s really where the style is able to shine.

TrunkSpace: The concept of the show is a fun take on a classic idea. Does that fun translate to the work itself to where you have to pinch yourself to be reminded that you’re doing work?

Nelson: Oh, yeah. It’s so much fun, especially because a lot of the time things are just funny, lighthearted, and there’s a bunch of jokes on set. Working with Alex (Hook), who has to play a robot, is something really interesting. As an actor I forget just how much what the other person gives you matters, in terms of your performance. She gradually gets more human, but towards the beginning she was so robotic, it was just a weird thing to experience, because I was pushing so hard to make all of the energy happen. Then towards the end of it, it became so natural. You never knew what they were gonna write for you, or what was gonna happen. The whole process was just a blast, to watch it all unfold and experience it.

TrunkSpace: And this is the longest period of time – 20 episodes so far – that you have ever spent with one character. What is that experience like?

Nelson: I loved it. That’s the only thing a performer can really ask for, something they can really sink their teeth into. When I first got the role and I went to Miami and we started shooting, they pretty much handed us 750 pages and were like, “Okay, have fun.” At that moment I realized everybody trains you for how to get the role, but nobody tells you what to do when you get the role. It was this moment of being like, “You know what? I have so much to work with, I don’t even know where to start, in terms of breaking this down.” Of course, I figured it out, but at the very get-go, it was very overwhelming. It’s a lot of material.

A person changes a lot over the course of 20 episodes, in terms of what they learn and how they view the world. It was also confusing. We didn’t really shoot in order, so I would have to train myself to remember, “Okay, what we’re shooting right now is episode 7, but right after this, we’re doing episode 15. This is where I’m at mentally by 15, and then we’re going back to episode 2.” It was completely all over the place, and that was one of the hardest parts.

TrunkSpace: Other girls your age are focused on school and life, and here you are throwing career into the mix as well. Does it ever feel overwhelming or are you used to having a career and making it all balance out?

Nelson: I’ve made it feel pretty normal. When I first moved out here and I was like, “This is what I’m gonna do, this is what’s gonna happen…” I fully jumped in and committed to it. It was overwhelming at first, but it’s something that I’m so passionate about and I truly love it. There isn’t ever a moment that I’m like, “Oh, I’m not sure if I can handle this,” or “I just wish I was back in Texas,” because I’m from Texas. I’m really, really happy with what I’ve decided to do and with where my life is going, so, no regrets.

TrunkSpace: Has word come down yet if I Am Frankie will get a season 2?

Nelson: Nothing has been confirmed, but we’ve only heard really, really great things from the network. So that’s exciting!

Playbill’s new Pop-Up Series, presented by Renaissance Hotels, continued on Monday, October 16 with a Sponge-Tastic sneak preview of SpongeBob SquarePants, The Broadway Musical. Joining Playbill for the performance and panel discussion was director Tina Landau, book writer Kyle Jarrow, and Ethan Slater—who stars in the title role—as well as Lilli Cooper (Sandy Cheeks), Danny Skinner (Patrick), and Brian Ray Norris (Eugene Crabs).

A New Texan On Broadway: Highland Park's Danny Skinner Set To Star In 'SpongeBob SquarePants' Musical

SpongeBob SquarePants — The New Musical is putting Bikini Bottom on Broadway. And Highland Park High School graduate Danny Skinner will be swimming right along, making his Broadway debut as SpongeBob's best friend, Patrick Star, when the show, inspired by Nickelodeon's hit animated TV series, starts performances Monday, November 6th at the Palace Theater!

"It's still so surreal, it doesn't feel like it's happening yet," Skinner told Dallas News on the phone from New York City. The cast recording, which features songs by multiple composers, features Skinner's voice on numbers composed by John Legend, Yolanda Adams, Plain White T's and Cyndi Lauper.

"I am over the moon," Skinner says. And under the sea.



Bikini Bottom is coming to Broadway in Nickelodeon's brand-new SpongeBob SquarePants musical!

SpongeBob SquarePants places the characters of the hit Nickelodeon cartoon series in an original story set in Bikini Bottom, where the stakes are higher than ever before, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world! Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage!


The show features a book by Kyle Jarrow and a score arranged by Tom Kitt, featuring original songs from a plethora of recording artists, including Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Sara Bareilles, Panic! At the Disco, and the late David Bowie.

Reprising their roles from the musical’s 2016 world premiere in Chicago are Ethan Slater as SpongeBob, Gavin Lee as Squidward Q. Entertainment One Announces New UK Partners And Deals For 'Peppa Pig'

New licensees Vitabiotics, Ravensburger and Pez, as well as longer-term partners like HTI, Character Options and more, will increase the popular preschool character’s presence at a raft of U.K. retailers.


EUROPE – Entertainment One has unveiled a score of new licensing partners, deal renewals and brand partnerships for Peppa Pig that will further extend the brand’s U.K. retail presence!

Kicking off the brand's slate of new partners is Vitabiotics, the UK’s largest vitamin supplier, which will launch a fun range of Peppa Pig shaped vitamins under the Wellkid brand in January.

Meanwhile, Ravensburger will introduce a new range of games and puzzles, Imagine8 will produce a range of hair accessories and costume jewellery, Pez will add Peppa Pig to its iconic line of licensed sweets dispensers and John Toys will bring out a range of PVC playballs from spring 2018.

A number of eOne’s long-standing partners have also had their licensing agreements renewed for Peppa Pig. These include master toy partner Character Options, which continues to enjoy heightened success with its already immensely popular Peppa Pig Classic toy range, capturing the brand’s essence with authentic, true-to-the-show styling. Sales of Character’s range have been rising month on month, reflecting an overall surge in popularity and continued influence for the brand. Supported by a heavyweight marketing campaign for the range, the licensee expects to see this success continue into 2018 and beyond.

Character Options is joined by the continuation of Penguin Random House (publishing), HTI (role-play toys), MV Sports (wheeled toys), Cooneen and Misirli (nightwear and underwear), Gemma International (party and greetings) and IG Design Group (expanding creative play range to include stationery).

Additionally, the “Peppa for Baby” brand extension has added a new style guide to reflect a brighter color palette and has been rebranded as “My First Peppa Pig.” eOne has also several partners for the brand extension. Blues will launch a line of baby and infant clothing and accessories from early 2018; meanwhile, Rainbow Designs will release a range of early year’s activity toys in Autumn/Winter 2018. The expanded "My First Peppa Pig" collection will also see the brand extend its retail footprint and open new retail partnerships in the nursery sector.

Supporting the UK consumer products programme, eOne continues to maintain promotional momentum with a packed schedule of retail marketing activity and charity partnerships. The licensor is currently running Peppa Pig in-store activities and promotions in The Entertainer stores across the UK to raise funds for charity Baby Lifeline. Throughout November 2017, Daddy Pig will be supporting global men’s health charity the Movember Foundation by growing a moustache and encouraging people to join a Daddy Pig team to raise funds for the charity. eOne is also extending its successful partnerships with many of its charities including Book Trust, the UK’s largest reading charity, which recently produced a "Shop with Peppa" activity story book exclusively for Sainsbury’s that sold over 6k copies in 3 weeks.

The brand will be boosted in 2018 when the newly extended Peppa Pig World themed attraction featuring two new rides opens to the public on 16 May. Save the Children will once again partner with eOne for the popular Muddy Puddle Walk, which raised over £230k for the charity when it launched in 2017, and will return in spring 2018.

LONDON: 17th October 2017 - Entertainment One (eOne) today proudly announces that it has entered into a global partnership with Merlin Entertainments (Merlin), to develop and operate location-based entertainment attractions based on its popular preschool license, Peppa Pig.

The leading visitor attraction operator will roll out new attraction formats and themed accommodation featuring Peppa Pig and all her family and friends. The deal covers all territories excluding the UK and Merlin will have exclusive rights for all location based entertainment formats with the exception of China, which will be licensed to Merlin on a non-exclusive basis.

In collaboration with eOne, Merlin will create fully branded, standalone Peppa Pig attractions in multiple formats as well as the development of dedicated branded areas within existing Merlin’s Resort Theme Parks. Merlin expects to open in-park areas in two Resort Theme Parks in 2018 and it is expected the first standalone attraction will open in 2019.

The news follows eOne unveiling plans to expand Peppa Pig World at Paulton’s Park theme park in Hampshire, UK in 2018. The expansion includes two new rides as well as a dedicated baby care center and a new catering outlet. The new additions join the existing seven rides at Peppa Pig World, along with the park’s indoor play area, water splash area and the largest dedicated Peppa Pig gift shop in the world. Peppa Pig World first opened within Paulton’s Park in 2011.

She styled her hair into loose waves and opting for a glowing, bronzed make-up look - but both were soon covered with thick green slime after her performance.

Having sung her heart out onstage, the thick green gunge soon came crashing down on top of her, giving her Nickelodeon's highest honour, causing Pixie to erupt into laughter as she attempted to wipe it away from her eyes, to the laughter of the audience.

The singer was joined by a number of VIP guests at the bash - including Danielle Lloyd, Brooke Vincent, Chelsee Healy and Stacey Solomon.

Pixie is performing at SLIMEFEST following making a comeback to the music industry after three years.

The singer previously teamed up with DJ and producer Anton Powers on "Baby" earlier this year, ahead of her stint as a coach on The Voice Kids. Her last self-titled album reached Number 15 on the Official Albums Chart and featured the Top 10 single "Nasty".

To celebrate Pixie Lott headlining SLIMEFEST 2017, the singer has taken over MTV UK's Snapchat!


Last November Pixie revealed her model beau of six years, Oliver Cheshire, 28, had proposed, getting down on bended knee in the shadow of St. Paul's Cathedral.

Speaking to MailOnline at the BBC Music Awards in December, the singer had admitted the pair were in no rush to plan their nuptials, and wanted to enjoy being engaged first.


She confessed: 'Next year's going to be super busy with new music and other stuff and I don't want to rush because it I want it to be absolutely perfect.'

Although she did add that she did not want to wait too long to marry her handsome beau, stating: 'If I don't get time to do it then it'll definitely by 2018 for sure.'

Kids Enjoy The Slime Of Their Lives As Nickelodeon UK's SLIMEFEST 2017 Hits Blackpool

Thousands of screaming youngsters were treated to teen sensation JoJo Siwa’s first UK performance at Nickelodeon's SLIMEFEST 2017 at Blackpool Pleasure Beach on Saturday 21st October 2017!


The event, organised by the number one UK commercial kids’ network, continues today (Sunday 22nd October 2017) and tomorrow (Monday 23rd October 2017) and is headlined by the 14-year-old known for her appearances on Dance Moms, her YouTube channel, but most of all for the colourful bows which are the fashion choice for millions of young girls.

In her first UK performance, she sang her hits "Boomerang" and "Kid in a Candy Store" to an orchestra of screams from the young crowd in the slimepit.

The bill was completed by rapper Professor Green, dance group Diversity, the stars of Nickelodeon’s School of Rock, Breanna Yde and Ricardo Hurtado, hitmaker Matt Terry and boyband Five After Midnight.

Today’s bill will include Pixie Lott, with The Vamps making their appearance tomorrow.

Nickelodeon USA To Premiere The "Alvin And The Chipmunks" Movie On Friday 3rd November 2017

Nickelodeon USA will host the network premiere of the hit movie Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007) on Friday 3rd November 2017 at 9:00pm ET/PT!


In the box office smash hit Alvin and the Chipmunks, when struggling songwriter Dave Seville (Jason Lee) discovers singing trio Alvin and the Chipmunks, he seizes the opportunity to put together his songwriting skills with the 'Munks unique talents. Their first collaboration, "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" becomes an overnight sensation, propelling the Chipmunks to superstardom. But when Dave's friend, greedy record producer Ian (David Cross), gets a hold of the loveable rodent pals, will they fall into Ian's corrupt landscape of global contemporary pop music or find their way back to Dave? Featuring the voices of Justin Long as Alvin, Matthew Gray Gubler as Simon and Jesse McCartney as Theodore, an appearance by Jane Lynch (iCarly, Glee, Two and a Half Men) as Gail.


Following the debut of Alvin and the Chipmunks, Nick USA will encore the live action/CG-animated film on Saturday 4th November 2017 at 9:00am ET/PT.



Alvin and the Chipmunks is based on the beloved characters created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr., and features a screenplay by Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi (The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Sanjay & Craig, Snow Day) and Jon Vitti.

TALES FROM THE CRYPTKEEPER Theme - Saturday Morning Acapella | Triforcefilms

In their latest addition to Triforcefilms' "Saturday Morning A Capella" playlist, Mr. Dooves performs a capella cover version of the Tales From The Cryptkeeper, a popular animated series that aired on Nickelodeon UK in the mid-nineties!

Tales From The Cryptkeeper is a horror-themed animated anthology series. Hosted by the Cryptkeeper (John Kassir, The Amanda Show), each episode featured a new, unscrupulous protagonist who commits a foul deed: maybe a boy who bullies younger kids or a pair of gruesome girls with no respect for rules. As always, the Cryptkeeper is on hand to cackle and howl as these little nasties learn the error of their ways. And they usually learn the hard way, tangling with vampires, giant toads, mutant ooze or toys come to life. It's frightful fun for the whole family!

Nickelodeon Benelux To Treat Deserving Kids With Their Dream Bedrooms In New Show 'Droomkamers', Premiering Sunday 22nd October 2017

Nickelodeon Benelux will start to premiere and show Droomkamers, a brand-new room makeover series in which deserving kids will receive the bedrooms of their dreams, every Sunday at 18:30 uur from Sunday 22nd October 2017 on Nickelodeon Netherlands (Nederland) and Nickelodeon Belgium (België; Flanders)!


Each week, Iris and Stef will treat one lucky kid who is going through a tough time with a fun getaway! However, that's not the main surprise! While each weeks lucky kid is having the time of their life, Iris and Stef, along with a group of their friends, are hard at work back at their home giving them the bedroom makeover of their dreams! Be it a room with a private beach and balcony, or a winter room complete with snow machine, there are no limits on bedroom designs!

The series premiere episode of Droomkamers is titled "Kick".


Nickelodeon Benelux asked viewers to nominate children who they thought deserved a dream bedroom for the series in September 2017.

Vanaf 22 oktober elke zondag om 18.30 uur op Nickelodeon


In Droomkamers, de nieuwe show van Viacom-zender Nickelodeon, draait het allemaal om het in het zonnetje zetten van een speciaal vriendje of vriendinnetje die het echt verdient. Vanaf 22 oktober zie je elke zondag om 18.30 uur hoe Iris Hesseling en Stef Poelmans samen een bijzondere kandidaat belonen met een verrassingsmake-over van hun slaapkamer. De geluksvogel wordt op pad gestuurd op een leuk uitje, terwijl Stef samen met vriendjes en vriendinnetjes in het geheim aan de slag gaat. Het uitje blijkt niet de verrassing te zijn, maar wel het feit dat zijn of haar slaapkamer is veranderd in een echte droomkamer! Zo zien we bijvoorbeeld een strandkamer voorbij komen met een privéstrandje en aansluitend balkon, maar ook een winterkamer compleet met sneeuwmachine.

Droomkamers is vanaf 22 oktober elke zondag om 18.30 uur te zien op Nickelodeon.
