Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK 2007 | 10th Anniversary | #TBT | NickSplat UK

Following 20 years of successful shows in the US, Nickelodeon's iconic orange blimp flew across the Atlantic breaking the slime barrier for the first ever Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK in October 2007!

Hosted by multi platinum-selling, superstar rockers McFly, Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards UK 2007 gave UK fans the chance to honour their favourite celebrities from the worlds of music, television, movies, sports and more.

Nickelodeon UK did what they do best: put the kids in control! Kids across the UK & Ireland could cast their votes for their favourite personalities on nick.co.uk the red button their TV remotes over the summer holidays. Leading up to the UK KCAs, Ed Petrie, Sy Thomas and Ugly Mark Felgate made sure the UK Kids’ Choice Awards had enough slime with Slime Across The UK and Slime Across Ireland, in which Ed and Sy managed the slime factory at Nickelodeon HQ in London, and Mark toured the UK & Ireland sliming fans.

Nickelodeon revealed the winners of the channels' iconic Blimp trophies at a hugely successful star-and-slime filled ceremony at ExCel London on Saturday 20th October 2007.

Millions of votes were cast across 16 Award categories, all of which were decided and voted for by the kids, including Best Band, Best Movie, Best Book, Best Burp, Best Reality TV Show, Best Sportsperson and a special environmental honour - the Greenie Award with Sky.

At Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards UK 2007, stars including Emma Watson, David Walliams, Shayne Ward, Holly Willoughby, Emma Roberts, Josh Peck and McFly all took part in the hilarious, sketch packed and slime filled show, which was sprinkled with a touch of the stateside sparkle that has made Nickelodeons Kids’ Choice Awards the most loved kids awards show in the USA for the past 20 years.

One lovely lady who took her sliming in very good humour was princess of TV presenting, Holly Willoughby. The usually glammed up Dancing on Ice host got gooey of her own accord by putting on her snorkel and diving into a 6ft tank of seriously slippery slime, inducting her into the Nickelodeon Hall of Slime. The fun factor continued to go through the roof as teen superstar Jamie Lynn Spears (Zoey 101) accepted a challenge from McFly to set the world record for the holding a note for the longest length of time and the boys themselves recruited went all out to thrash the record set for slinging the most slime at an event by this years’ US host Justin Timberlake …all in the name of good ole’ fashioned fun!

Harry Potter and The Simpsons both walked away triumphant, each picking up two awards. Teen screen sensation Emma Watson, the then 17-year-old British actress that plays Hermione Grainger in the Harry Potter cinematic triumph, picked up the gong for Best Movie Actress, whilst Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - the seventh and final book in the globally successful literary series from JK Rowling - picked up the award for Best Book. The magical movies leading lady, Emma Watson was on hand to gracefully accept her award, without getting gooey with slime in the process.

Other guests including Big Brother 8’s Chanelle & Ziggy, Samanda and winner Brian Belo were not so lucky. The reality TV stars were both shamed and slimed as they walked on stage believing they had won an award, only to find out that they had been set up by the Slime Squad (Sy Thomas, Ugly Mark Felgate, and Laura Hamilton) so they could gunk them in goo and shower them in..well…slime!

Proving that The Simpsons legacy is still going strong, the TV show won Best Cartoon, and 18 years on from the first ever small screen episode, The Simpsons Movie racked up yet another award for Best Movie whilst High School Musical’s Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale picked up the awards for Best TV Actor and Best TV Actress respectively.

The smash hit Nickelodeon comedy series Drake & Josh picked up the award for Best TV Show, with Josh Peck himself collecting the prize and getting in on the action with his fellow Nickelodeon screen stars, teen sensations Claire Holt, Phoebe Tonkin and Cariba Heine from H20 - the UK’s number 1 rating drama series for kids and Emma Roberts, star of Unfabulous and the Nancy Drew movie.

Simon Cowell went head to head with himself and came out a winner after two of his shows – Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor - were nominated in the Best Reality Show category. However, family favourite X Factor came out on top, with past show winner and chart topper Shayne Ward collecting the gong on behalf of the show. Shayne also showed off some super smooth moves on stage whilst performing his smash hit single ‘No U Hang Up.’

Best Movie Actor award went to the legendary Johnny Depp, beating off competition from silver screen hunks Orlando Bloom, Daniel Radcliffe and, erm, Rowan Atkinson.

Masters of the ceremony, show hosts McFly didn’t go home empty handed either. They were named Best Band, ahead of Fall Out Boy, Girls Aloud and Sugababes. They proved themselves to be top class presenters but also amazing showmen as they did what they do best and performed live - opening the show with an electric performance of ‘Pinball Wizard’ and also treated the floor stomping arena audience of 2,500 people with a medley of their greatest hits.

Having already released two successful albums in America, Drake Bell (Drake & Josh) picked up another award, but this time for his solo music efforts, winning the gong for Best Male Singer. And with three albums and a stack of awards already under her belt, angst teen Avril Lavigne won Best Female Singer and MTV Hits Best Music Video.

Across the other categories, loveable Geordie lads and inseparable dynamic duo Ant & Dec picked up the Best TV Presenter accolade (well, it couldn’t go to just one of them!); David Beckham was crowned the king of sports, picking up the Best Sports Person award, Best Video Game went to Sims 2.

Nickelodeon’s role model of the year blimp, the I Wannabe award was scooped by Little Britain funny man and everyone’s favourite big kid at heart, BAFTA Award winner David Walliams, who is widely recognised for his charity work as well as for having the nation in stitches.

TV’s slimiest awards event put ‘green’ at the heart of the show, with the Greenie Award with Sky. This award put kids in control of pledging to make a series of small environmental changes that go a long way, such as recycling, turning off the tap, writing on both sides of their school papers, switching TV off from standby and walking or catching the bus instead of being driven around in cars. The most popular pledge was recycling - highlighting the waste recycling efforts of the Nickelodeon viewers. Screen starlet Emma Roberts collected the award and took the pledge herself to help raise awareness and encourage kids across the globe to help make the world a greener place. The Greenie Award with Sky is part of a much wider channel green initiative from Nickelodeon towards a greener planet.

Dance floor booty-shakers ‘Booty Luv’, and famous faces from British soaps Hollyoaks, Coronation Street and EastEnders also wowed the crowd during the live event.

The starriest, slimiest awards show on TV premiered on Nickelodeon UK on Saturday 27th October 2007 at 11am, on Sunday 28th October 2007 at 2pm on MTV Hits and on Saturday 3rd November 2007 at 9am on TMF.

The family television event of the year was watched by a record breaking 1.2 million multi-channel viewers and in excess of 3.3 million votes were cast by kids and teens in the UK and Ireland.

Nickelodeon UK's inaugural Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK was produced by Nickelodeon UK, together with the team behind MTV's European Music Awards (EMAs).

The intro to Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK 2007 features Nickelodeon's iconic orange blimp arriving on UK shores and flying past iconic British landmarks, such as the Blackpool Tower in Blackpool and The Angel of the North in Gateshead, before arriving in London, flying around famous London landmarks, including Palace of Westminster and Elizabeth Tower, home of Big Ben, The Gherkin, the London Eye, and St Paul's Cathedral, painting the town orange, projecting popular Nickelodeon characters around the city and filling the Thames with green Nickelodeon slime.

The design package for Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK 2007 - used on-air and off-air - was created by UK-based creative production studio Mainframe, who also created the graphics for Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Germany 2007.

Following the success of the first-ever Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK, Nick hosted a second UK edition of Nickelodeon's iconic awards ceremony the following year, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK 2008 at ExCel London in September 2008.

Nickelodeon Fires 'The Loud House’ Creator Chris Savino Following Sexual Harassment Allegations

The Loud House showrunner Chris Savino has been fired from Nickelodeon, amidst allegations of sexual harassment, Variety and Deadline are reporting.

Here is the statement from a Nickelodeon spokesperson:

"Chris Savino is no longer working with Nickelodeon. We take allegations of misconduct very seriously, and we are committed to fostering a safe and professional workplace environment that is free of harassment or other kinds of inappropriate conduct."

"The Loud House, which is currently in its second season, will continue to air on Nickelodeon and be in production. Season three is scheduled to premiere in early 2018."

Savino had first been suspended by the network when allegations first surfaced. A dozen women have accused Savino of inappropriate behavior, in a story first reported by the website Cartoon Brew. Their accusations — which date back at least a decade — include unwanted sexual advances as well as threats of blacklisting after the end of consensual relationships.

The Loud House, which is currently in its second season, will continue to air on Nickelodeon and be in production. Season three is scheduled to premiere in early 2018, and a theatrical movie is in the pipeline

In an internal memo, Cyma Zarghami, president of Viacom’s Nickelodeon group, promised employees they would be safe if they spoke up. “In the current climate, it feels necessary to say that if you should encounter an uncomfortable situation at work, or witness one, you are safe to speak up,” she wrote. “If you hear something, and are unsure of what to do, you are safe to tell your supervisor or Human Resources. If you need help, in any way, you are safe to ask for it.”

Read Zarghami's full memo below:

“Nickelodeon is incredibly successful at the moment and continues to thrive because of the people who work here. You put your heart and soul into what you do. And we are committed to giving you the tools and resources you need to succeed and thrive here.

“Something we have long provided, as has the whole of Viacom, is a commitment to fostering a safe and professional workplace environment. It is one of our foundational principles, and it is non-negotiable.

“This principle is not an idea that can be pushed solely from the top down. It is everyone’s responsibility to contribute to our culture, to value one another, and to promote inclusivity and respect on all levels.

“I have been at the company for more than 30 years, and since the beginning of my time here, I have come into the office, and left it every day, feeling that we are doing good work, that we are good people, and that it is a privilege and responsibility to create great characters and stories for kids.

“In the current climate, it feels necessary to say that if you should encounter an uncomfortable situation at work, or witness one, you are safe to speak up. If you hear something, and are unsure of what to do, you are safe to tell your supervisor or Human Resources. If you need help, in any way, you are safe to ask for it.

“We value each and every one of you just as much as we collectively value our audience, and I am proud of the incredible brand and business we have built.”

Earlier today, more than 200 women and non-gender conforming people working within the animation industry issued an open letter to studios demanding an end to sexism and sexual harassment in the animation industry following the recent downfalls of Harvey Weinstein and Roy Price who used their position as Hollywood executives to abuse women.

The Loud House premiered in May 2016 and has aired over 80 episodes to date. The series, which centers on the only son in a large family of eleven daughters. The series is based on an animated short of the same name from Nickelodeon’s annual Animated Shorts Program. It was the first series to be greenlit out of the networks global program designed to mine and cultivate a new generation of creative talent. Since launching, The Loud House has become a ratings powerhouse for Nickelodeon, often beating SpongeBob SquarePants to become the network’s highest rated series.

Savino been working at Nickelodeon 26 years ago. He worked as an animator on the network’s early hits The Ren & Stimpy Show, Rocko’s Modern Life, and Hey Arnold!, before heading to Cartoon Network to become a director on series like The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack, among others.

Women and Non-Gender Conforming People Working in Animation Pen Open Letter Calling for End to Harassment

More than 200 women and non-gender conforming people working within the animation industry have issued an open letter to studios demanding an end to sexism and sexual harassment in the animation industry, Buzzfeed reports.

Inspired by the recent downfalls of Harvey Weinstein and Roy Price who used their position as Hollywood executives to abuse women, animation artists are making specific demands of animation studios as well as male artists working in the business and the union that represents Los Angeles animation artists, The Animation Guild Local 839 IATSE.

The letter calls for three actions: that each studio put in place clear and enforceable sexual harassment policies and take every report seriously; that The Animation Guild add language in its constitution that will allow it to censure, fine, suspend or expel any members of the guild found guilty of acts, omissions, or conduct prejudicial to the welfare of the guild; and that male colleagues begin standing up for their female and non-gender conforming coworkers and speak out against harassing behaviors when they are aware of them.

The letter is signed by 217 people comprising a who’s who of the animation industry, among them prominent show creators Rikke Asbjoern (co-creator, Pinky Malinky), Rebecca Sugar (Steven Universe), Lauren Faust (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic), Shadi Petosky (co-creator, Danger & Eggs), and Julia Pott (Summer Camp Island); industry execs Audrey Diehl (vp of series, Warner Bros. Animation), Jenna Boyd (director, kids & family creative, Netflix), and Jill Sanford (kids and family creative development, Netflix); and numerous other high-profile creative talents including Adventure Time director Elizabeth Ito, Pearl production designer Tuna Bora, Dreamworks TV Animation supervising producer Aliki Theofilopoulos, Bob’s Burgers writer/supervising producer Wendy Molyneux, Frozen and Kung Fu Panda 3 story artist Clio Chiang, and Wreck-It Ralph 2 assistant production designer Mingjue Chen.

The full text of the open letter is shown below:

"An Open Letter to the Animation Community

We, the women and gender non-conforming people of the animation community, would like to address and highlight the pervasive problem of sexism and sexual harassment in our business. We write this letter with the hope that change is possible, and ask that you listen to our stories and then make every effort to bring a real and lasting change to the culture of animation studios.

In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, many of the women who work in animation have begun discussing more openly issues that we have dealt with quietly throughout our careers. As we came together to share our stories of sexism, sexual harassment and, in some cases, sexual assault, we were struck by the pervasiveness of the problem. Every one of us has a story to share, from tossed-off comments about our body parts that were framed as “jokes” to women being cornered in dark rooms by male colleagues to criminal assault.

Our business has always been male-dominated. Women make up only 23% of union employees, so it’s no surprise that problems with sexism and sexual harassment exist. Sexual harassment and assault are widespread issues that primarily affect women, with women of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized groups affected at an even greater rate.

As more women have entered the animation workforce, it seems that some men have not embraced this change. They still frequently make crass sexual remarks that make it clear women are not welcome on their crews. Some have pressed colleagues for romantic or sexual relationships, despite our clear disinterest. And some have seen the entrance of more women into the industry as an opportunity to exploit and victimize younger workers on their crews who are looking for mentorship. In addition, when sexual predators are caught at one workplace, they seem to easily find a job at another studio, sometimes even following their victims from job to job. We are tired of relying on whisper networks to know who isn’t safe to meet with alone. We want our supervisors to protect us from harassment and assault.

This abuse has got to stop.

The signatories of this letter demand that you take sexual harassment seriously. We ask that:

1. Every studio puts in place clear and enforceable sexual harassment policies and takes every report seriously. It must be clear to studio leadership, including producers, that, no matter who the abuser is, they must investigate every report or face consequences themselves.

2. The Animation Guild add language in our constitution that states that it can “censure, fine, suspend or expel any member of the guild who shall, in the opinion of the Executive Board, be found guilty of any act, omission, or conduct which is prejudicial to the welfare of the guild.” To craft and support the new language, we ask that an Anti-Harassment and Discrimination Committee be created to help educate and prevent future occurrences.

3. Our male colleagues start speaking up and standing up for us. When their co-workers make sexist remarks, or when they see sexual harassment happening, we expect them to say something. Stop making excuses for bad behavior in your friends and co-workers, and tell them what they are doing is wrong.

It has not been easy for us to share our stories with each other. Many of us were afraid because our victimizers are powerful or well-liked. Others were worried that if they came forward it would affect their careers. Some of us have come forward in the past, only to have our concerns brushed aside, or for our supervisors to tell us “he’s just from a different era.” All of us are saddened and disheartened to hear how widespread the problem of sexual harassment still is in the animation industry, and how many of our friends had been suffering in secret.

It is with this in mind that we resolve to do everything we can to prevent anyone else from being victimized. We are united in our mission to wipe out sexual harassment in the animation industry, and we will no longer be silent.

Signed,

"

This latest move comes in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct by The Weinstein Company co-founder Harvey Weinstein, and a widespread social media campaign with the hashtag #MeToo to raise awareness of the prevalence of sexual harassment in all industries.

Earlier this week, it was also reported that Nickelodeon has suspended The Loud House creator Chris Savino following allegations of sexual harassment. Cartoon Brew first reported the creator’s leave of absence. The above letter has reportedly been in the works since at least last week, meaning that it is not specifically related to Chris Savino's suspension.

The website learned that as many as 12 women have accused Savino of harassment, which includes the creator reportedly making unwanted sexual advances on employees. He would also reportedly threaten co-workers with industry blacklisting after their consensual relationship ended. The harassment claims go back at least a decade.

Websites IndieWire and Deadline have reached out to Nickelodeon for comment. A network spokesperson said: “Viacom is committed to the safety and well-being of our employees, and to fostering a workplace free from harassment. As a matter of policy, we do not comment on specific employee matters, but we take all allegations of this nature very seriously, investigate them thoroughly and take any necessary actions as a result.”

The Loud House premiered in May 2016 and has aired over 80 episodes to date. The series, which centers on the only son in a large family of eleven daughters, wraps up its second season this month. A third season has been greenlit and a theatrical movie is in the pipeline. It's currently unclear how Savino's absence will effect the show and film.

The Loud House has been a ratings powerhouse for Nickelodeon, often beating SpongeBob SquarePants to become the network’s highest rated series.
