Nick Jr. at the Cinema to Return to Russian Movie Theaters

ViacomCBS Networks Russia (Россия) and Pioneer Film Company have extended their partnership which will see "Nick Jr. at the Cinema" return to Russian cinemas in November 2021! The "Nick Jr. at the Cinema" initiative, brings some of Nickelodeon's top-rated preschool series to the big screen, including brand new episodes and specials before they air on the Nick Jr. channel. The 2021 edition of Nick Jr. at the Cinema" will kick off on November 4 with PAW Patrol: Jet to the Rescue, with new releases each month going forward.


Since launching in March 2019, around one million moviegoers throughout Russia have seen their favourite Nick Jr. shows on the silver screen thanks to "Nick Jr. at the Cinema", earning more than 161 million rubles at the box office.

In addition to PAW Patrol, cinemagoers will be able to watch Blaze and the Monster Machines and Santiago Of The Seas in the coming months.


Information about the project, as well as a list of participating cinemas will be available on the official "Nick Jr. at the Cinema" website, https://nickjrvkino.ru, soon.

Новые выпуски проекта «Nick Jr. в кино» будут выходить каждый месяц. Помимо «Щенячьего патруля», российские кинотеатры покажут анимационные шоу «Вспыш и чудо-машинки» о бесстрашном пикапе-гонщике, «Сантьяго и его моря», историю о приключениях восьмилетнего пирата и его друзей, и многие другие. Юные зрители узнают, как важно развивать уверенность в себе, быть трудолюбивым и помогать окружающим.

Nickelodeon’s ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Aims to Introduce Franchise to a Younger Audience

The Star Trek franchise is among the most venerable of all 20th century entertainment properties. Having already birthed nine TV series and 13 feature films since its initially short-lived debut run in the 1960s, the thinking person’s space opera has mapped out the furthest reaches of the galaxy and all points in between. But now, it is prepared to boldly breach a demographic that it has not specifically attempted to tap before: kids.


Driven by showrunners Kevin Hageman and Dan Hageman, as well as director Ben Hibon, Nickelodeon’s animated Star Trek: Prodigy will introduce a fresh cast of protagonists, as well as animated versions of legacy characters, in particular the Star Trek: Voyager fan favorite Kathryn Janeway, voiced by returning actor Kate Mulgrew. Star Trek: Prodigy will first roll out on Paramount+ later this month, before heading into Nickelodeon’s regular programming.

Centered around an entirely non-human primary cast of characters, Prodigy features the voices of Ella Purnell, Jason Mantzoukas, Brett Gray, Rylee Alazraqui and Dee Bradley Baker as a band of young misfits who stumble upon an abandoned Starfleet ship and take off into the final frontier, learning how to function as a proper crew along the way.

This will certainly not be Star Trek’s maiden voyage into animation; most recently, Star Trek: Lower Decks launched on CBS All Access in 2020, and Filmation produced Star Trek: The Animated Series in the mid-1970s. It will, however, be the first to specifically target a younger audience, and the Hagemans were circumspect about making the new show kid-friendly without losing the heady appeal of the original series.

“It was just about the perspective [of the characters], which kind of stems from our own fears about doing a Star Trek show,” Dan Hageman told Variety. Hageman, who, along with his brother, has written for everything from The Lego Movie to Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia. “I would think, ‘I could never write what they say on the bridge, these characters have all been through Starfleet, they’re the best of the best.’ So the very first thing was, what if we just take kids who don’t know any of this? You give them a ship, and they learn about the ship, they learn about the procedures. It felt like a totally new way into Star Trek that would be relatable.”


The brothers trace their own love of Star Trek back to the original set of films, particularly The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock, and look to the epic sweep of those films as a model for their own serialized storylines.

“You look at the entire Trek universe, all the series and films, and those two have some of the most emotional moments,” says Kevin Hageman. “They take big story swings, and those are the types of stories we like to tell: very cinematic stories that have both brains and heart.”

Per Nickelodeon president of animation Ramsey Naito, “I was never skeptical” that Prodigy could manage to appeal to both young newcomers and adult fans of the series, crediting director Hibon for “bringing a visual style and a level of sophistication to the show that exceeded all expectations.”

“It’s an aspirational show,” she continues. “Nickelodeon’s core audience is 6 to 11, but the show’s serialized storytelling and character relationships are so sophisticated, the stakes are high, and it really stretches to the older end of our audience.”

Brian Robbins Pays Tribute to Brian Goldner Following Hasbro Exec Passing Away

Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures President Brian Robbins has paid tribute to Brian Goldner, the Chief Executive of Hasbro and Transformers executive producer, following Goldner passing away from cancer, aged 58.

“On behalf of everyone at Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, we are saddened by the news of Brian Goldner’s passing, and our thoughts are with his family,” Robbins said in a statement. “Brian was an incredible partner and collaborator with us on so many beloved franchise titles including G.I. Joe and Transformers, and he was a visionary leader in evolving Hasbro into a global content company. He will be sorely missed.”

Goldner, who was also on the board of directors of ViacomCBS, is survived by his wife and daughter. He lost his 23-year-old son in 2015.

The new studio division will develop groundbreaking social impact-driven content addressing climate, equity, and health for the ViacomCBS portfolio of brands, including Paramount+, as well as for third-party partners. VIS Social Impact is part of Content for Change, a global ViacomCBS initiative that aims to counteract racism, bias, stereotypes and hate through the company’s culture, creative supply chain, and ultimately the content it creates.

Now with VIS Social Impact, we will harness the power of storytelling to challenge stereotypes, shift perceptions, and create meaningful change in the critical areas of climate, equity and health,” said Raffaele Annecchino, President and CEO, ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI). “Through ViacomCBS’ massive global footprint and the work of this new studio, we have a responsibility to elevate voices that need to be heard, and to use our content to make a tangible impact on the world’s biggest challenges.”

VIS Social Impact is led by Georgia Arnold, SVP of Social Responsibility, ViacomCBS Networks International, reporting to JC Acosta, President of ViacomCBS International Studios and Networks Americas. Arnold brings decades of behavior-change expertise as the Executive Director and co-founder of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, a highly respected organization whose aim is to protect young people around the world against HIV and improve their sexual and reproductive health. She is also the executive producer of the multi-award-winning MTV Shuga series, which has starred Lupita Nyong’o and Thuso Mbedu, and fuses sexual health messaging with gripping storylines about intimate relationships between young people. Over the last decade, there have been several evaluations that have shown the positive causal impact of watching MTV Shuga and an increase in condom use, HIV testing, and shifting social norms on gender-based violence.

The first VIS Social Impact commission is Protest & Progress, from world-renowned, history-making photographer and social activist, Misan Harriman. In the 3x60 docuseries to premiere on ViacomCBS’ premium streaming service, Paramount+, at the end of next year, Harriman travels around the world to uncover the stories behind some of the most powerful images and art forms that have defined a moment and a movement. The series will aim not only to educate on the importance of protests, but inspire audiences to remember their voice matters.

“It is an honor to be among the first commissions for VIS Social Impact and to have an opportunity to present the power of photography and art to a global audience on Paramount+,” said Harriman. “This is a passion project that explores how a single image can reflect and influence society and inspire hope.”   

In addition, VIS Social Impact will champion diverse creators and content focused on underrepresented communities. The studio will begin this work by launching an inclusive writers’ room focused on scripted ideas powered by a diverse group of creatives, with a strong presence of participants from LGBTQ+ communities. It will be led by actor, writer and director Thishiwe Ziqubu.

“As a gender non-binary creative, spaces where our voices are heard for their pure artistic truth is imperative. Free room for expression of our individual lived experience is rare. I look forward to the tapestry of ideas emerging from this room of Black storytellers with a unique voice,” said Ziqubu.

Fanattik and ViacomCBS Partner for SpongeBob Collectibles

Fanattik nets SpongeBob SquarePants in first partnership with animated property


The pop culture specialist, Fanattik has signed a pan-European gift licensing partnership with ViacomCBS Consumer Products that will bring Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants into new home decor, barware, gifts and collectables.

The limited edition SpongeBob x Fanattik range includes: coins, pin badges, drinks coasters, a 24k gold plated ingot, a bottle opener, and a limited edition "Rock Bottom" art print.

The new collection of collectables and products will be available from September this year across gift and toy stores throughout Europe. The line is available to pre-order online today.

Fanattik managing director, Anthony Marks, said: “An internationally beloved and timeless brand, SpongeBob SquarePants is one of the most watched programmes in the world with 100 million global viewers monthly and a feature film on the way in 2021. This was a brand the whole team wanted to have in the Fanattik portfolio.”

Fanattik has received multiple awards and enjoyed ‘phenomenal growth’ over the past three years with multiple pan-European licensing agreements now signed up to the portfolio. Its partnership with Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob marks the first time the company has partnered with an animated show.


“With half of all viewers being adults, we are going to make sure the products we create appeal to the original fans as well as new ones. Each item will have that Fanattik twist which makes our pieces stand out from anything else in the market,” said Melissa Tudor, head of product development.

Since its launch July 17, 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has reigned as the number one kids’ animated series on TV, while generating a universe of beloved characters, pop culture catchphrases and memes, theatrical releases, consumer products, a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical and a global fan base.

SpongeBob SquarePants is the most widely distributed property in ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) history, seen in more than 170 countries and territories, translated in more than 30 languages, and averaging more than 100 million total viewers every month.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK and LONDON – August 5, 2021 — ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI), a division of ViacomCBS Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAC, VIACA) and Sky, part of Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA), today announced that Paramount+ will launch on Sky platforms in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria (GSA) in 2022 as part of a new multi-year distribution agreement that also includes the extended carriage of ViacomCBS’ leading portfolio of pay TV channels and the renewal of Sky as an ad sales partner in select markets.

“We are thrilled to expand our long-standing partnership with Sky to continue delivering ViacomCBS’ leading portfolio of premium entertainment brands to Sky customers and importantly bring Paramount+ to new audiences in all Sky markets, including the UK, Ireland, Italy, and GSA,” said Raffaele Annecchino, President and Chief Executive Officer, ViacomCBS Networks International. “This transformative distribution deal is key to accelerating our global ambitions in streaming while also supporting Sky’s strategic objectives to better serve audiences with greater flexibility in how they consume our content across all platforms.”

Paramount+ is the latest in a series of apps to come to Sky Q adding more than 10,000 hours of content, further enhancing Sky’s aggregation strategy and enabling Sky customers to watch even more of the best content together in one place on the Sky Q platform.

Upon launch, Sky Cinema subscribers will get the bonus of Paramount+ included at no additional cost, providing access to two fantastic services side by side with more than 10,000 hours of extra content for one affordable price. As part of this partnership, Paramount Pictures’ feature films will remain available on Sky Cinema in the UK and will join Sky Cinema in Germany and Italy in 2022. All other Sky customers will be able to subscribe to Paramount+ as an add-on to their account.

Paramount+ features an expansive catalog of original series, hit shows and popular movies across every genre from world-renowned brands and production studios, including SHOWTIME®, BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and the Smithsonian Channel, in addition to a robust offering of premier local content. Outside of the United States, the premium streaming service offers nearly 3,000 episodes of kids’ content, 1,000 episodes of reality, more than 500 films, and 2,500 hours of Paramount+ Originals, CBS and SHOWTIME® series, dramas, and sitcoms.

Titles that will become available through 2022 in the UK, Ireland, Italy and GSA include a collection of scripted, exclusive Paramount+ Originals and exciting new takes on iconic franchises, including HALO, The Offer and the new iCarly series. As the international home of SHOWTIME, the service will offer The Man Who Fell to Earth, Ripley, Super Pumped, and American Gigolo,  in addition to popular titles from ViacomCBS, such as Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, Star Trek: Prodigy, and MTV Unplugged. The service will also feature a collection of new movie premieres and fan favorites from Paramount Pictures such as films from the Mission Impossible and Transformer franchises.

In addition, ViacomCBS and Sky reached a multi-year extension for carriage of ViacomCBS’ linear channels — including Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon — in the UK, Ireland, Italy and GSA. The channels will be complemented by a strong selection of box sets, giving customers the flexibility to watch the content they love whenever and wherever they want.

ViacomCBS renewed its multi-year agreement with Sky as an ad sales partner for all platforms and channels in the UK and Italy. Sky Media will continue to handle ad sales across the ViacomCBS portfolio of channels, including Channel 5 in the UK, where ViacomCBS and Channel 5 will benefit from Sky Media’s market-leading innovation in addressable advertising.

Other terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Paramount+ will also be available direct-to-consumer in UK, Ireland, Italy and GSA through the Paramount+ app for iOS and Android and across supported connected TV devices and OTT platforms. Pricing and local content offering will be announced at a later date.

Paramount Plus Readies for Europe Launch: ‘We’d Love to Unseat Netflix’ – Mipcom

Paramount Plus’s Douglas Craig outlined the streamer’s strategy during a keynote panel at Mipcom as it readies to launch in Europe in 2022.

Craig, ViacomCBS’s SVP of programming and acquisitions, said that “Europe is the next logical step” for the platform, which has already launched in 25 markets this year, including Latin America, the Nordics, Australia and Canada.

He described Europe as a “complicated” market to enter however, not only in terms of the quotas for local content but also the numerous distribution channels.

“Our philosophy is ubiquitous distribution,” Craig said. “We’re not necessarily focused on only direct to consumer, like Disney Plus might be doing.”

In the U.K., Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria (GSA), for example, Paramount Plus will launch on Sky platforms. Craig explained that according to the deal, Paramount Plus and Comcast/ViacomCBS streaming co-venture SkyShowtime will be mutually exclusive in a number of territories, with customers experiencing one or the other depending on their location.

“For us, in the industry, it can be confusing, I get it, but if you’re a consumer in those markets, it’ll be pretty singularly clear. Like, it’s not either/or,” he said. “You’ll have access to one or the other.”

He was also sanguine about where Paramount Plus may sit within the streaming wars, admitting: “When we go into a market, we know that we’re not – well, hopefully, we’d love to unseat Netflix – but we know that’s not our go-to market strategy.”

“So, you know we’ve positioned ourselves, you know in that two or three, number four spot.”

Craig also discussed the balancing act that Paramount Plus must carry out, both in terms of local content versus U.S. content (the latter of which dominates thanks to its sister brands including Paramount Pictures, Paramount TV Studios, Showtime, CBS, MTV and Nickelodeon) as well as film versus television content and new versus library content.

“There are things like movies, which are a fantastic tool to get people to sign up for your service,” he said. “But then you’d be surprised on the things that people say keeps them subscribed. So for example, kids content is a massive driver, the library of movies, library of TV shows.”

As such, like many of the traditional studio-owned streamers, Paramount Plus is slowly clawing back its library of content from distributors. “Our goal is to repatriate that content and bring it back home, so to speak. The way things are distributed that can’t happen overnight.”

Craig also said that the company is considering many forms of streaming, including AVOD and SVOD, and reiterated Viacom’s commitment to linear, saying: “Our company was built on linear television. It’s still a huge part of our focus, we’re not shying away from that.”

GameMill Releases New 'Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl'; Game Now Playable on Linux Using Proton Experimental

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl publisher GameMill Entertainment has announced the release of a new patch for the Xbox version of the game. The patch went live on October 11.


Despite everyone having a good time with the fun gameplay, players have been pointing out several bugs with the game since it launched on Oct. 5. Developers are well aware of the issues, and the latest update should help sort out some of the most glaring ones.

Among this update's fixes are:

  • Improves the matchmaking experience for the platform.
  • Fixes screen tearing issues on the Series consoles.

Additionally, Proton Experimental, a compatibility layer, based upon Wine, allowing Windows games to run on Linux, also released an update on Oct 11, allowing Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl to be played on the operating system. The news follows a few Linux users reporting problems playing the game on the OS.

Why It May Take a While for 'Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl' to Add Voice Acting

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has already become a firm favorite since it was released on October 5, however, one of the biggest aspects about the game that is garnering the most criticism is the lack of voice acting in the game. Although there's a lot of Nickelodeon characters in the game, none of them actually speak.


Joel Nyström, the CEO of Ludosity, the developer of the game, has said that voice acting may be added as part of future DLC, however, fans may be waiting a bit. It all comes down to one important thing that is mostly overlooked: every Nickelodeon character sounds depending on the country you're watching the show in. A good example of this is SpongeBob. Fans in English-speaking territories will hear Tom Kenny as the titular sponge, meanwhile, if you're watching SpongeBob SquarePants in Latin America, you'd hear Luis Carreño as SpongeBob. Most of the time, there are even different dubs for viewers in Spain and Latin America and Portugal and Brazil.


Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has been released as a global game, with a fanbase around the world. Basically, it's a logistical nightmare. One reason that Ludosity may not want to add different localized soundtracks to the game is that it would increase the game's file size 10-fold, and may even increase the cost of the game.

That being said, never say never! Late last year, THQ added a Latin American soundtrack to SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, even hiring the same voice actor from the TV series. It is possible to add different dubs, it may just take more time.
