Paramount Shifts 'The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender' to Oct. 9, 2026 Release

Paramount Pictures announced several changes to its release calendar on Friday, May 16, with The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, Nickelodeon Movies and Avatar Studios’ highly-anticipated animated feature film set in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe now set for wide theatrical release on Friday, October 9, 2026, after having previously been scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2026. The release date shift stems from delays in animation physical production.

Cast of 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' as adults

The new release date takes over the slot for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, which has been moved to September 17, 2027.

The Legend of Aang will continue the story begun in the critically acclaimed Nickelodeon animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005), which is set in a world divided into four nations — Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation and Air Nomads — where beings called Benders have the power to control their realm’s element. A figure known as the “Avatar” is the only one who can control all four elements.

The series introduced a 12-year-old named Aang, the long-lost Avatar, and the new movie will pick up with the grown-up Aang (now in his early twenties) and his companions some years after the events of the show's finale.

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender is being directed by series alum Lauren Montgomery (Superman: Doomsday, Wonder Woman, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) and co-directed by William Mata (Dora and the Fantastical Creatures), with series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko executive producing alongside Eric Coleman. The voice cast is led by Eric Nam as Aang, Dave Bautista as an unnamed villain, Dionne Quan as Toph, Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka and Steven Yeun in a TBA role. The movie is being produced in association with Domain Entertainment.

The South Korean animation studio Studio Mir, who previously worked with Nickelodeon on Avatar: The Last Airbender spin-off The Legend of Korra in 2014, was recently tapped to work on the film, which will blend 2D animation with modern CG technology to create a unique hybrid look. Australia’s Flying Bark was previously attached in 2022.

Paramount Animation will host a special presentation of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender at the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Thursday, June 12. The movie's presentation will take place in the afternoon.

Paramount Shifts 'TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2' to Sept. 17, 2027 Release

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans will have to wait a bit longer for party time to begin.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

Paramount Pictures announced several changes to its release calendar on Friday, May 16, with the animated sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 now set for wide theatrical release Friday, September 17, 2027, after having previously been slated for Friday, October 9, 2026. The shift stem from delays in animation physical production.

A follow up to Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies' 2023's megahit, which collected $180 million worldwide, the sequel was first announced in July 2023, prior to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem being released in theaters. The sequel is being produced by Point Grey Pictures and directed by Jeff Rowe, who also served as the director and co-writer of Mutant Mayhem. Seth Rogen is returning to produce this new installment with Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Ramsay McBean. Rowe has co-directors Kyler Spears and Yashar Kassai also on the team.

The star-studded voice cast for the first Mutant Mayhem included Micah Abbey (Cousins for Life) as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. (The Chi) as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu (The Walking Dead: World Beyond) as Leonardo, Brady Noon (Family Switch) as Raphael and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) as April O’Neil, along with Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, John Cena, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube and Paul Rudd.

It's currently unknown whether the film's new release date will affect the upcoming release of the second season of Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a 2D animated series set in the world of Mutant Mayhem that bridges the two movies. Season one premiered in August last year, with season two currently slated to be released later this year.

In addition to Mutant Mayhem 2, Paramount is also working an an R-rated movie adaptation based on the critically-acclaimed TMNT comic, The Last Ronin.

Tyla released a hot new single “Bliss” earlier this month. Her music pushes boundaries, offering an innovative take on pop and R&B that shimmers with the euphoria of amapiano, the music of her native South Africa. Her mega-hit 2023 single, “Water,” catapulted her to global superstardom, earning her the distinction of being the highest-charting African female soloist on the Billboard Hot 100 with the 2x-platinum single, and her first GRAMMY victory, for ‘Best African Music Performance.’ Subsequently, she achieved the same historic chart feat on the Billboard 200 with the release of her self-titled debut studio album, TYLA, which features a plethora of the sounds and styles that make Tyla unique and a wide range of guests, including Tems and Travis Scott. The March 2024 album charted a dominant 12 singles on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Chart, including the chart-topping “Water,” which has earned global diamond honors and is the first-ever Spotify song by an African artist to surpass one billion streams. TYLA BIO

Tyla’s music pushes boundaries, offering an innovative take on pop and R&B that shimmers with the euphoria of amapiano, the music of her native South Africa.

Summer 2024 served as a career defining time for Tyla. She delivered enthralling performances of her debut album on the world’s biggest stages, including the Paris Olympics and the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, and was triumphant at the MTV VMAs, Billboard Music Awards, BET Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards and the South African Music Awards. Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, New York Magazine and other world-renowned publications deemed her the scene-stealer of the Met Gala, where her innovative Balmain custom number racked up billions of impressions via broadcast, digital, print and social media.

TYLA, the album, surpassed the billion-stream mark on Spotify less than three months post-release, and tracks like “Truth Or Dare” and “Art,”which have earned global gold certifications, generated millions hundreds-of-millions of streams. Tyla’s global impact, ever-felt, continued to resonate thanks to festival performances in Brazil and Korea, and a triumphant two-night run of shows in her native South Africa, a dazzling homecoming for the nation’s homegrown superstar.

Following one of the most successful debut campaigns ever, Tyla added to her new heights with the October release of the deluxe edition of her historic debut, TYLA+, featuring the breakout hit, “Push 2 Start,” which garnered Tyla her second Hot 100 entry as a solo artist and a remix featuring legendary reggae artist Sean Paul. She’s graced the covers of prestigious outlets British Vogue, Elle and Cosmopolitan, and generated headlines in fashion’s biggest outlets with her iconic Chanel set at Paris Fashion Week. Certifications have continued to pile up, including multi-platinum honors for TYLA. The GRAMMY-winner remains locked in, and is already teasing new music.

“I once thought pop music was just straight-up radio music, that catchy music—which it is—but I feel like it’s just music that everyone can relate to, dance to, sing to,” the GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter says. “I’d love to be that pop star, especially that type of role model for other African artists because we have amazing, huge artists, but we need more people born in Africa to take that spot. When I was younger, I obviously had the dream to be the biggest pop star, but it’s not something that happens every day for an African artist.”

Despite her big dreams, Tyla does her best to remain carefree, an approach she demonstrates on “Water,” now a classic record. Prior to the song’s ascent up the charts, it enjoyed massive viral success, racking up over three billion views and providing the inspiration for over two million posts. The heightened engagement was a sign of things to come. A few short months later, Tyla was performing the record on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and teaching Jennifer Hudson its viral dance on Hudson’s renowned daytime talk show. The magic of “Water” spread quickly, and Tyla’s career blossomed soon thereafter, as follow-up hits like “Truth Or Dare,” “Art,” “Jump” and “On & On,” impacted the Afrobeats charts and racked up millions of YouTube views and hundreds-of-millions of Spotify streams.
Tyla’s parents fostered a musically rich childhood home, playing the likes of Aaliyah, Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson, Mi Casa, and Rihanna while she did chores. She often danced with her sisters—“I was that child that wanted to be seen by everyone”—and as soon as her mother told her she could sing, she never stopped. As a child, she made up songs for Father’s Day and Mother’s Day. She was 12 when she penned songs more seriously in her diary, which led to writing and singing originals to post to Instagram as a high schooler. She messaged any and everyone who worked in music, to mostly no avail.

Before catching the attention of a manager, Tyla was “on the verge” of studying mining engineering, because of the inherent uncertainty attached to artistic pursuits. “A lot of people in my family wanted to become musicians, and it didn’t work out, so that’s all my parents knew. They didn’t want that for me, and it was obviously out of love,” she says, noting she now has her parents’ undying support. “I had to make the decision: ‘Mom and Dad, I’m so sorry, but I’m gonna go for this.’”

Tyla’s family, friends, and newfound collaborators propped up her confidence and encouraged her. Most importantly, to unlock what had always been inside of her, she kept showing up for herself. “Getting Late” was the breakthrough, and her late 2021 song “Overdue” featuring DJ Lag and Kooldrink soundtracked the second-season trailer of Netflix’s South African teen drama Blood & Water, but “Been Thinking” and “To Last” found Tyla in full control of her own story, especially the emotional “To Last.”

“Making that song made me realize that I was born for this because I wrote the hook lyrics years ago in the shower,” she says. “I was just singing random words, and all of a sudden, I started singing, ‘You never gave us a chance / It’s like you never wanted to last.’ I grabbed my phone and recorded it.”

By continuing to follow her intuition, Tyla has established herself as a true superstar at just 22 years of age. She has received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Billboard, i-D, Vogue, Office, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Insider, UPROXX and more. Still, Tyla’s focus, which she has been adamant about since before her career erupted, will always be on elevating her native continent. “[Singing] is something I always really wanted, for myself, and for Africa, and for the world. Something different, something original.”

Signed to Epic Records through a joint venture with Johannesburg/New York-based Fax Records, and co-managed by We Make Music and Africa Creative Agency, Tyla is poised to further her international dominance with style, soul, and spirit. Her dream of helping to establish amapiano’s global presence is coming true in real time.

Netflix Set to Add New ‘The Fairly OddParents!: A New Wish’ Episodes In June 2025

Nickelodeon's award-winning CG-animated series The Fairly OddParents!: A New Wish has finally confirmed when its next batch of episodes will be available on Netflix worldwide. Ten new episodes are scheduled to arrive on Netflix globally (labeled as an Original in international territories and as a Nickelodeon Original in the U.S.) on Thursday, June 12th, 2025. The news was first reported by our friends over at WoNetflix.

The Fairly OddParents!: A New Wish

Serving as a reboot to the much-beloved Butch Harman series of the early 2000s, Wanda and Cosmo are back (along with voice actors Daran Norris and Susanne Blakeslee) to help a new child in need in the form of Hazel Wells (voiced by Ashleigh Crystal Hairston). Netflix was first attached to be a distributor on the series alongside Nickelodeon back in 2024, with episodes 1-10 arriving in November 2024 with the second batch, now labeled as season 2, arriving in June.

Following season 1 landing on Netflix, it spent a week in the global top 10s, picking up 7.5M hours watched globally, and the Netflix Engagement Report reveals it picked up 5.2M views in the entirety of the second half of 2025, making it the 380th most watched show for that period.

It's important to note that, whilst Netflix is labeling this second batch of episodes as "Season 2," they are the second part of season one, and a second season has yet to be officially commissioned. All the episodes coming to Netflix have already aired on Nickelodeon in the U.S. and Paramount+, and will be airing on Nickelodeon channels internationally starting later this month.

Why is Netflix calling it season 2 then? That’s just how they like to label new releases. The streamer tends to label new episodes of animated series as “season 2,” even when they might be the back half of another season. It also applies to their own originals when they often order a bunch of episodes upfront and then split them into separate seasons (or parts, as they’re sometimes referred to). Nickelodeon and Paramount have also started doing this over the last year. Whilst it might make everything confusing, it’s speculated that streaming services find that the best way of enticing more people to watch multiple seasons rather than just adding episodes to an already released season.

What can you expect from the next batch of episodes? Expect plenty of over-the-top wish-failures, family bonding, and a few surprisingly sweet moments as “Season 2” of Hazel Wells and the Fairies sees our heroine juggling school, siblings, and her fairy godparents in one whirlwind adventure after another. You’ll get everything from haunted museums and board-game worlds to pasta rampages, all framed around Hazel learning what it means to wish wisely, and what happens when you don’t.

The season kicks off in “Crock to the Future,” with Hazel’s handbag (and Cosmo and Wanda) seized at the Parascience Pageant. Desperate to get her fairies back, she’s forced into an uneasy truce with Denzel Crocker—who quickly switches from bumbling academic to fairy-chasing foe when he discovers Hazel’s secret. It’s a tight, clever opener that sets the tone for a season packed with double-crosses and cosmic comeuppance.

As mentioned, there is currently no word on an actual second season renewal yet (or season 3 as Netflix would eventually call it). Last year, WoN spoke to showrunner Lindsay Katai about the possibility of a second season, what it’d entail, and what fans need to do to ensure it happens:

“If we get another season, I’m most excited to include Hazel’s friends and brother in the wishes now that they’re allowed to know about fairies. That was a change in the show’s DNA I was pushing as early as the brainstorm. I was so excited they let us make that change and then we didn’t get an immediate pickup and I kept wailing, ”THEN WHAT WAS IT ALL FOR?” It was such a darkly comic thing to happen, to let us open up the world like that and then to have Papa Paramount be like, “Actually, all shows now have to wait for viewer data before getting a decision about more episodes.” And for us, because Netflix was a producing partner from the beginning, that meant we had to wait until we premiered on Netflix! We’re animated, are you kidding me, do you know how long that will take? Like, I got pregnant in the third week of development, and my kid is two years old now, and we are still hoping for a second season.

So anyway, the best way for fans to help is to watch it on Netflix, Paramount+ and Nickelodeon, watch it all, watch it in the first week (if watching on Netflix), watch it AGAIN, tell everyone you know to watch it and keep posting about the show on social media. The only way we’ll come back is if we have the numbers and I sincerely hope we come back.”

Once these episodes land on Netflix, they’ll remain on the streamer for at least eight years, with current intel suggesting Netflix holds the rights through 2033.
