Peyo Co. Taps Blue Spirit and Dreamwall for New ‘Smurfs’ Standalone Specials

Peyo Company, controller and producer of the iconic The Smurfs franchise, is delighted to announce the production of two brand-new 22-minute standalone episodes starring the globally beloved blue characters. The specials are currently in production and scheduled for delivery at the end of 2026.

To bring these exciting stories to life, Peyo Company is working in close collaboration with two top European animation studios: Blue Spirit (part of Studio TF1, France) and Dreamwall (Belgium), who are providing creative and production services under Peyo Co.’s leadership. According to the Peyo Company, both these studios bring valuable expertise and craftmanship to the project, helping ensure these special episodes live up to The Smurfs’ high standards of storytelling and animation quality.

Jenny Wakeman (XJ-9) Joins the Quest In 'Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny'

Half-teenager, half-robot, ALL power.  From sawblades to homing missiles, Jenny Wakeman is bringing the heat (and the hardware) to the fight!

GameMill Entertainment has revealed that the latest Nickelodeon character joining the roster of Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is none other than XJ-9 herself, Jenny Wakeman, from Nickelodeon's hit noughties animated series, My Life as a Teenage Robot! Jenny has been one of the most requested characters to join the game by fans.

Entering the fantasy fray as a Ranger, Jenny is described as a tactical, high-tech, combo driven character who boasts an adaptive arsenal to aid her on the journey in this real-time action-RPG that can be played solo or with up to three other players. Jenny also sports a hoodie-like garment, which should help prevent any rusting.

Alongside the reveal of Jenny, a first look at how she plays in Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny has also been unveiled in a new gameplay trailer that showcases her various abilities and more.

Here's a look at all of Jenny Wakeman's abilities in Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny:

• Big Fist – With overwhelming force, Jenny swings her enlarged mechanical fists forward, dealing crushing damage to everything unlucky enough to stand in her way.

• Dual Crossbows – Jenny’s twin crossbows fire in perfect sync, unleashing a relentless volley of bolts that tear through foes while recovering mana.

• Homing Missile – Jenny launches a large precision-guided missile, it locks onto an enemy, chasing them down before erupting in a massive explosion.

• Drill Dash – A directional dash attack. Jenny transforms her arm into a drill and rockets forward, boring through enemies with unstoppable momentum and dealing attack damage to all enemies contacted.

• Saw Blades – Whirring saws spin as Jenny spins in a 360 attack. Twirling like a cyclone through the fight, she shreds enemies apart while recharging her mana.

• War Hammer – Jenny hefts a massive war hammer, charging it with raw mechanical strength before slamming it down in a bone-rattling strike.

• All Out Attack – Jenny’s Ultimate Attack. She unleashes her ultimate weaponry, firing a storm of missiles and a powerful energy blast in one direction, engulfing the battlefield in devastating power.

Jenny Wakeman joins previously announced SpongeBob SquarePants, Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda, from The Fairly OddParents, Sandy Cheeks, Susie Carmichael from Rugrats, and Danny Phantom.

They'll be going up against villains such as the Flame Fatale - Princess Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Danny Phantom's Ember McLain, and Angelica Pickles of the Rugrats fame - along with Sheldon J. Plankton from SpongeBob.

Floyd Levine, Actor and Father of Brian Robbins, Passes Away Aged 93

The onetime cab driver appeared in several projects involving his son — the actor, producer, director and executive — among them Head of the Class, Good Burger and Coach Carter.

Floyd Levine, a character actor who appeared in such films as Dog Day Afternoon, Night Shift and, for his son, producer, director and studio exec Brian Robbins, Good Burger, Coach Carter and Norbit, has sadly passed away. He was 93.

Levine died Sunday, August 25, his daughter-in-law Tracy Robbins announced in an Instagram post.

“He was surrounded by his beautiful family (and probably wishing someone would bring him a martini),” she wrote. “The best father-in-law, grandpa and all-around jokester, Floyd loved Frank Sinatra, classic films and making everyone laugh.”

Levine also showed up as Desk Sgt. Lubin on CBS’ Cagney & Lacey, as Dr. Howard Stein on Fox’s Melrose Place and as Ned the Doorman on Nickelodeon’s Cousin Skeeter, a show co-created by his son.

Born in New York on Feb. 23, 1932, Levine and his wife, Rochelle, raised their three kids in the Marine Park section of Brooklyn. He drove a cab to support an acting career that began with bit parts as cops in such films as Super Fly (1972), Death Wish (1974) and Dog Day Afternoon (1975).

After appearing in episodes of shows including Kojak, Baretta, Starsky & Hutch and Wonder Woman, Levine moved with his family in 1979 to Los Angeles. (When Brian Robbins started out as an actor in the early 1980s, he took the last name of his dad’s mother.)

Father and son appeared separately on episodes of CBS’ Archie Bunker’s Place in 1981 and ’82. And in 1989, Levine played a judge on the ABC sitcom Head of the Class, which starred Robbins as student Eric Mardian.

Levine also was on two episodes of the Nickelodeon sitcom Kenan & Kel, which his son directed and produced, and he played an ice cream man in Good Burger (1997), which Robbins helmed. He also appeared on Nickelodeon's Sports Theater with Shaquille O'Neal Later, he portrayed a cab driver in Coach Carter (2005) and a tailor in Norbit (2007), movies produced by his son.

His big-screen credits included Bloodbrothers (1978), Night Shift (1982), The Border (1982), Airplane II: The Sequel (1982), Braddock: Missing in Action III (1988), The Hangover (2009) and two more films directed by his son, the Eddie Murphy-starring Meet Dave (2008) and A Thousand Words (2012).

And surely you came across him on Police Squad!, Charlie’s Angels, Hill Street Blues, Three’s Company, Arlis$$, Murder She Wrote, Mad About You and other shows (he has nearly 100 credits on IMDb).

Survivors also include his daughter, Sheryl, a casting director; another son, Marc; and several grandchildren. His wife died in May 2022 at age 85.

Robbins this month departed as chairman and CEO of Paramount Global and president of Nickelodeon in the wake of the sale to Skydance Media and David Ellison.

Nickelodeon Programming Set to Leave YTV and Treehouse in Canada in September 2025

Following the news that Corus Entertainment will be closing Nickelodeon Canada on Monday, September 1, it appears that a raft of Nickelodeon programming will be leaving Corus' other kids channels, YTV and Treehouse, in September, too.

First reported by Nickandmore!, YTV currently airs Nickelodeon series such as SpongeBob SquarePants and The Loud House on weekdays and Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, The Patrick Star Show and Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the weekends, however, starting Monday, September 1, Nickelodeon programs will be leaving the channel's weekday schedules.

Instead, YTV will be replacing the usual SpongeBob and Loud House airings with The Amazing World of Gumball and Teen Titans Go! - two Cartoon Network shows that the channel added in June. Corus also operates the Canadian versions of Cartoon Network and Disney Channel, both of which are staying on the air.

Meanwhile, Corus' preschool channel Treehouse currently runs Nickelodeon preschool series such as Blaze and the Monster Machines and Bubble Guppies, but these will also be leaving on September 1.

Co-productions and Nickelodeon-branded shows that are distributed by third party companies appear to remain on Corus' channels.

While the full week's schedule isn't known just yet, it appears that Corus, a long-time Nickelodeon partner - has lost the rights to broadcast Nickelodeon programming, and not just the branded channel.

Nickelodeon programming will still be available on Paramount+ Canada.

Update (8/28) - YTV has now removed Nickelodeon programming from its official website, ytv.com.
