Dove Cameron, Lil Nas X and More to Virtually Host New Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Special

Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards will be holding a virtual special on Saturday, May 2, PEOPLE has revealed!

In the wake of the 2020 Kids' Choice Awards being postponed due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Nickelodeon has something exciting in store for fans!

The network has announced that on Saturday, May 2, they will be virtually holding the "ultimate house party," revealing the first-ever Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2020: Celebrate Together, a brand-new special that will benefit No Kid Hungry.

During the show Nickelodeon will present a $1 million donation to No Kid Hungry in support of people affected by the pandemic.

And yes, Nick is promising there will be slime.

No Kid Hungry is a national campaign run by Share Our Strength, a nonprofit working to help millions of kids and families in the United States and around the world, that have been affected by childhood hunger and poverty.

The event will be hosted by Nickelodeon alum Victoria Justice (Zoey 101, Victorious).

Joining Nickelodeon — and fans tuning in for the event — will be a slew of A-list celebrities, including Kristen Bell, Ellen DeGeneres, Camila Cabello, Josh Gad, Simon Cowell, Annie LeBlanc, BTS, Shawn Mendes, Lil Nas X, Dove Cameron, JoJo Siwa, David Dobrik and British YouTuber SSSniperWolf, Dwayne Johnson, Ariana Grande, Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), and SpongeBob SquarePants stars Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke, among others. The awards will also feature appearances by cast members from Avengers: Endgame, JoJo Siwa discovering slime placed throughout her house and a performance by Asher Angel.

LeBron James will receive the 2020 Generation Change Award for his commitment to education via the I Promise school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

Also scheduled are appearances by cast members of The Avengers: Endgame, and a sneak peek of Nickelodeon’s new live-action series The Astronauts, from Imagine Entertainment.

Leading nominees for the awards show, which honors kids’ favorite celebs, movies, TV shows, games and more, include Avengers: Endgame with 11, followed by Taylor Swift with five noms and Frozen 2, Henry Danger and Lil Nas X with four apiece.

Nominees for favorite kids TV show are A Series of Unfortunate Events, All That, Bunk’d, Henry Danger, Power Rangers Beast Morphers and Raven’s Home.

Nickelodeon's 33rd Annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards were originally scheduled for March 22, however, they were postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

"The Kids’ Choice Awards scheduled for March 22, 2020, in Los Angeles is being postponed in consideration of the safety and well-being of every person involved with the show, which is our top priority. We will have further information about a new date in the future," Nickelodeon said in a statement at the time.

The awards show was set to take place at the Forum in Inglewood, California, and Grammy Award-winner Chance the Rapper was slated to host the evening. Nickelodeon has yet to announce the award night's new date.

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2020: Celebrate Together will be the first remotely produced awards show to take place amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The news follows Nickelodeon in Germany, Switzerland and Austria hosting a virtual version of it's annual localized Kids' Choice Awards in April.

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2020: Celebrate Together will air on May 2, at 8 p.m. ET on Nickelodeon USA.

The ViacomCBS cable network will become the first to produce an awards show since the pandemic shut down hundreds of film and TV productions in mid-March. While late-night shows have returned to work and news programs have continued throughout, shows involving numerous video feeds and people conferencing in from multiple locations have been slower to make their way onto TV.

The multi-network One World: Together at Home special on April 18 and Thursday's NFL Draft on ABC, ESPN and NFL Network both went off fairly smoothly, however, providing a glimpse into what the Kids' Choice Awards might look like. (ABC is also going ahead with its final rounds of American Idol, with contestants, judges and host Ryan Seacrest all working remotely.)

Nickelodeon Productions is producing the show, with Jay Schmalholz serving as executive producer. Rob Bagshaw, executive vp unscripted content at Nick, is overseeing.
