Nickelodeon’s ‘Dora The Explorer’ & ‘The Fairly OddParents’ to Get Live-Action Series Remakes On Paramount Plus

Dora the Explorer and The Fairly OddParents are getting the live-action TV treatment! The Nickelodeon series will be rebooted for Paramount+, Deadline reports.

Dora the Explorer, which ran for eight seasons, will return in live-action form aimed at kids 6-11. The series follows Dora Marquez, a 7-year-old Latina with a love of embarking on quests accompanied by her talking purple backpack and Boots the monkey.

At 10 seasons and 172 episodes, The Fairly OddParents is one of the longest-running animated series on the network. It follows the adventures of Timmy Turner, a 10-year-old boy with two fairy godparents named Cosmo and Wanda and a malevolent 16-year-old babysitter named Vicky.

Both series have previously been adapted into live-action movies, most recently with Isabela Merced starring in the 2019 film Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Back in 2011, Daniella Monet and Drake Bell starred in A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!, followed by A Fairly Odd Christmas in 2012 and A Fairly Odd Summer in 2014. Series creator Butch Hartman will be involved in the Fairly OddParents reboot.

"'Wanda, will you become live action with me?' It’s true! I’m so excited because I’ve been dying to tell everyone: FAIRLY ODDPARENTS IS GOING TO BECOME A LIVE ACTION SERIES!," Hartman said on Instagram, adding "It was just officially announced that 'Fairly Oddparents will become a LIVE ACTION series on Paramount +!' How cool is that? I can’t thank all the Fairly Odd fans enough for their huge love and support throughout the years. And I can’t wait to meet all the NEW fans that will come from this new series. It’s a true blessing. And thanks to everyone at Nickelodeon & Paramount❤️ Who are you most excited to see become a live action character? And stay tuned: I’ll be sharing this entire journey with YOU!"

Brian Robbins, president ViacomCBS Kids & Family, announced the two projects Wednesday as part of a flood of news during Paramount+'s investor presentation. Robbins said the shows would be "in the vein of" the 2019 live-action feature film Dora and the Lost City of Gold and will target Nickelodeon's core kid audience. Other details are scant at the moment.

The Dora and OddParents projects are in keeping with ViacomCBS' m.o. for Paramount+, which is to mine the company's vast IP library for updates and new spins of existing titles. Wednesday's presentation included news of series based on Paramount movies GreeceLove Story, Fatal Attraction and The Parallax View; a revival of Frasier; and revivals of MTV's Road Rules and VH1's Behind the Music, among others.
