‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Season 2 & Season 3 Episode Titles Revealed

Season 2 will be one episode lighter than season 1 but will be slightly longer.

The journey to the Earth Kingdom is going to be a little shorter than first expected—at least on paper, our friends over at WoNetflix are reporting.

Earlier this month, Knight Edge Media recently pulled back the curtain on the highly anticipated second season of Netflix's hit live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation, revealing the episode count and titles. Much like other returning Netflix heavyweights, we’re seeing a slight reduction in the number of chapters, but there is a major silver lining for those worried about the story being rushed.

According to a new report from Caleb Williams—a consistently reliable source for Avatarverse news across both live-action and animation—Season 2 will consist of only 7 episodes, down from the 8-episode order of the first season. This “slimmer” season trend has become fairly common recently, with other Netflix hits like Ransom Canyon and 3 Body Problem also pivoting toward more condensed storytelling.

But before you grab your pitchforks, there is some good news: while the episode count is down, the report states the total runtime is actually expected to be longer than Season 1, which clocked in at 430 minutes (7 hours and 10 minutes).

Alongside the count, we now have the official titles for the upcoming season, which provide our first look at the writers’ room for "Book 2: Earth":

  • Episode 1: Somewhere Safe (Written by: Christine Boylan)
  • Episode 2: A Fight, Once Begun (Written by: Phinneas Kiyomura)
  • Episode 3: City of Walls and Secrets (Written by: Helen Shang)
  • Episode 4: The Water Falls, the Stones Emerge (Written by: Teresa Huang)
  • Episode 5: Ten Thousand Things (Written by: Gabriel Llanas)
  • Episode 6: The Parable of the Two Dragons (Written by: Keely MacDonald)
  • Episode 7: Something Broken (Written by: Christine Boylan & Gabriel Llanas)

Update (5/6) - The episode titles for the third and final season of Avatar: The Last Airbender have been revealed! As with season 2 of the live-action series, season 3 will also consist of 7 episodes. Be warned: spoilers ahead.

The season 3 episode titles include:

  • Episode 1: The Khandul (Written by: Helen Shang)
  • Episode 2: Eight Minutes (Written by: Teresa Huang)
  • Episode 3: Spirit of All Nations (Written by: Emily Kim)
  • Episode 4: Ghosts of the Old World (Written by: Keely MacDonald)
  • Episode 5: Fire Remakes the World (Written by: Christine Boylan)
  • Episode 6: Two Islands (Written by: Phinneas Kiyomura)
  • Episode 7: All Who Stand Against the Flame (Written by: Gabriel Llanas) - series finale

If those titles look a little “out of order” to you, you aren’t alone. The live-action adaptation is significantly reshaping the original animated timeline. As a reminder, the official synopsis for Season 2 sees Aang, Katara, and Sokka regrouping after the North Pole to convince the elusive Earth King to join the fight against Fire Lord Ozai.

The most shocking revelation here is that the gang arrives in Ba Sing Se as early as Episode 3 ("City of Walls and Secrets"). In the original series, they didn’t reach the capital until the final third of the season. Knight Edge Media speculates this shift is primarily financial: Ba Sing Se was constructed as a massive, expensive real-life set, and production needed to maximize its use across the season to justify the cost.

The titles also hint at when we will meet key characters. Episode 2 ("A Fight, Once Begun") is a direct nod to a quote from the Earthbending academy in the original series, suggesting that Miya Cech’s Toph Beifong will join the team much earlier than in the animation. Episode 5 ("Ten Thousand Things") refers to the spirit owl Wan Shi Tong (whose name means “He who knows ten thousand things”), confirming that the Library arc happens after the heroes have already visited the city.

This raises a massive question regarding "Appa’s Lost Days". In the original Nickelodeon series, the loss of Appa at the Library was the catalyst that drove the search in Ba Sing Se. With the Library now following the city arrival, the narrative sequence of Aang finding the “Day of Black Sun” intel—and losing his flying bison—is being completely reimagined. Finally, the finale title "Something Broken" points toward a dark conclusion, likely mirroring the fall of Ba Sing Se and the literal breaking of the Avatar Cycle seen in the original "Crossroads of Destiny".

Another intriguing episode title of all is that of the penultimate episode, "The Parable of the Two Dragons." The cartoon featured a few pairs of dragons to whom this title could possibly refer, such as those who appeared in Zuko's fever dream from "The Earth King" or the ones from "The Avatar and the Fire Lord." But the most intriguing possibility is that "The Parable of the Two Dragons" will revolve around a major event in Uncle Iroh's life that the cartoon mentioned but never portrayed.

The Season 3 episode "The Firebending Masters" saw Zuko and Aang seek out the ancient Sun Warrior civilization to learn the true nature of firebending, which had been corrupted by the Fire Nation over the years. This culminated in a trial overseen by the ancient dragons Ran and Shaw. Dragons were previously thought to be extinct, with Zuko claiming that Iroh had killed the last dragon, but the Sun Warrior chieftain revealed that Iroh had once passed the same trial and lied to prevent dragon slayers from hunting down Ran and Shaw.

Seeing Iroh's interactions with the Sun Warriors and the dragons would be truly fascinating, especially for long-time fans of the franchise. More so than most other characters in The Last Airbender, Iroh underwent a major character shift. He was once the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation and a ruthless general in the Hundred Year War, but after the death of his son Lu Ten, he became a wise and peaceful mentor for Zuko.

The audience was not privy to most of this transformation, so the live-action series has a chance to reveal more details about Iroh's evolution into the character fans know and love. The dragons' trial would surely be a key factor in his shifting worldview.

The people of the Fire Nation saw their element as a destructive force, so they valued strength and aggression. But the Sun Warriors realized that fire also represented life. Iroh must have taken this lesson to heart, or else he never could have passed Ran and Shaw's evaluation.

No official release date has been set beyond a 2026 window. It is also worth noting that Season 3 was filmed near enough back-to-back with Season 2 to maintain the cast’s ages, though an episode count for that final chapter remains under wraps.

More on ATLA season three:

As you might have noticed, most of the first half of season 3 of the original series will be either cut out entirely or reshuffled for the live-action adaptation. Given that the story will jump right into “The Day of Black Sun” during episode 2. The writing team already did this in season 2, when the team arrived at Ba Sing Se by episode 3 rather than at the end of the season. It should be expected that episodes like “The Painted Lady”, “The Runaway” or “Nightmares & Daydreams” might be omitted completely due to time constraints, though that is pure speculation.

‘The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender’ Alleged Leaker Arrested In Singapore

The man accused of posting Paramount+’s Avatar: The Last Airbender animated film in full online was found by police in Singapore

A man accused of posting the entirety of Paramount's upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender animated feature has been arrested in Singapore. The 26-year-old suspect could face up to seven years in prison and a $50,000 fine for stealing and dispersing the film, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.

The footage began going around in mid-April as social media users started sharing the full follow-up film to the original animated Avatar: The Last Airbender series. The film, which features Team Avatar as young adults in the early space between the finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, was set to release in theaters on Friday, October 9, however, in December, Paramount announced that they had pivoted the film, along with upcoming Avatar series Avatar: Seven Havens, to be a streaming exclusives on Paramount+.

First reported by The Straits Times, police stated that they received a report on Thursday, April 16 about the circulation of parts of an unreleased film on social media platforms. The man was identified and arrested within a day of the report.

According to police, the man accessed restricted servers to download the film and leak it online. Various devices belonging to the man were seized, with a copy of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender being recovered from them. The maximum punishments for these crimes would be seven years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine.

The police said preliminary investigations revealed that the man had gained unauthorised remote access to the server and downloaded the film, which he later posted parts of online.

Following the leak, many of the artists and animators who worked on the film spoke out about early, unofficial release on social media. No trailer or footage of the film had been officially shared by Paramount before the leak.

“We worked on the aang movie for years with the expectation that’d we’d get to celebrate all of our hard work in theaters … just to see people unceremoniously leak the film and pass our shots around on twitter like candy,” said animator Julia Schoel on X. “I don’t like seeing people use paramount’s awful decision to remove the movie from theaters to justify leaking it. I totally understand folks not wanting to pay for/support paramount+. but pirating the movie after its release would have at least been better than this. This is incredibly disrespectful to all of the hard work the artists put in.”

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender will stream on Paramount+ on October. 9.

Paramount Investigates ‘Avatar: Aang, The Last Airbender’ Leak, Determines It Didn’t Come From Studio

Paramount is investigating the online leak of its upcoming film The Legend Of Aang: The Last Airbender, but the company has determined that it did not come from within the studio, sources familiar with the situation told Variety.

'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Cast

The entire film was posted online over the weekend. Despite takedown efforts, it remains viewable as of Thursday morning, however, clips of the movie on X are still being taken down through its copyright takedown process. The animated feature was originally slated to be released theatrically on Friday, October 9, but the studio decided instead to distribute it exclusively on Paramount+ — leading to fan protest.

Paramount declined to comment on the leak. The Legend of Aang is based on the beloved Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. It was animated by Flying Bark Productions, based in Australia.

The X account that originally posted clips from the film on Saturday — “ImStillDissin” — claimed the leak came from someone at Paramount Global subsidiary Nickelodeon who “accidentally emailed me the entire Avatar Aang movie.” But a source familiar with the situation said that the initial investigation determined that the vulnerability had nothing to do with Paramount’s systems.

The person behind the anonymous X account figured he was just trolling when he leaked two minute-long clips of the film, The Hollywood Reporter reports. On Sunday, a friend of his sent him a full copy of the movie. He didn’t know what it was until he looked it up.

“I saw it’s just a Paramount+ thing, so I decided I’d troll a little bit” by posting the videos, he says, explaining that he didn’t think it was a big deal since the movie isn’t being released in theaters. He added a watermark to the clips in a nod to the affiliation of the friend that sent him the movie.

Posters egged ImStillDissin on to leak the full film. He resisted, though it didn’t matter. By Monday, an unrelated account that appears to belong to someone in Singapore leaked the full movie. It’s circulated widely across the diehard fanbase since then.

Hollywood is no stranger to leaks. Screeners of The Revenant, Zero Dark Thirty and Game of Thrones all hit the internet days or even weeks before they were officially released. Still, you’d have to go as far back as 2017, when hackers stole episodes of the newest season of Orange Is the New Black from the show’s postproduction vendor in a bid to extort Netflix, for another incident involving a title as big as Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender that was leaked months in advance.

Animators for the movie urged fans to resist watching, explaining that doing so undermines the work of cast and crew.

“We worked on the Aang movie for years with the expectation that we’d get to celebrate all of our hard work in theaters,” said animator Julia Schoel, creator of animated short film The Legend of Pipi who’s also worked on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movieon X, “… just to see people unceremoniously leak the film and pass our shots around on Twitter like candy.”

Schoel also said that Paramount’s “awful decision” to remove the movie from theaters does not justify leaking it online.

“I totally understand folks not wanting to pay for/support paramount+” she wrote, “but pirating the movie after its release would have at least been better than this. This is incredibly disrespectful to all of the hard work the artists put in.”

“This is incredibly disrespectful to all of the hard work the artists put in,” Schoel added.

Added Tessa Bright, animation director at Flying Bark Studios, which animated the movie: “It’s perfectly reasonable for anyone who worked on this project to be frustrated at this situation. The amount of effort and dedication it took to make this film happen speaks for itself in the final product and I’m sure a lot of you will agree.”

The original voice of Toph Beifong in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Michaela Jill Murphy (who is also known by her stage name, Jessie Flower), has also told fans not to look at The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender leaks.

“Stop talking about it, and stop sharing things about it,” Murphy said in a TikTok video. “If you want to be respectful, and if you want to know how I feel, stop sharing it. Stop consuming it. Stop talking about it. And watch it when it comes out. That’s what I’m doing. And if you want to respect the creators and respect the cast and respect me, and respect the art, then stop sharing it and editing it and looking at it and commenting about it.”

Then, in her character’s voice, Murphy added: “The key to Earthbending is your stance. You’ve got to be steady and strong. Rock is a stubborn element, so if you’re going to move it, you’ve got to be like a rock yourself.”

“So maybe just practice some discipline and patience,” she continued. “Flag videos where you see clips from it. Respect the art and respect the creators. I know everybody might not listen, but that’s not a reason for you not to listen. Just be respectful and wait. That’s how I feel about it.”

Not everyone’s on board with the idea, however. “Respectfully, no,” one person commented. “We do not support big corporations. Especially ones who gatekeep art. Paramount+ is not available in most European countries, a lot of us wouldn’t be able to experience the movie in any way shape or form. They even scrapped the theatrical release, which would’ve given us the option to at least watch it for a limited time. So the answer is no. We will continue to watch and talk about it, and make edits about it. This franchise has been a part of our childhood just as much. Artists should respect the ones who consume their art. Therefore I encourage everyone to talk about the show, make edits, and have a fun time. Respect has to be earned, and we are not respected, so we do not have any obligations to show it in return.”

Murphy responded to this comment directly, saying: “This is an odd takeaway from what I spoke on in the video. There are ways to value artists and art and go against a bigger corporation at the same time. I would encourage you to rethink your current perspective “

Indeed, Murphy has spent some time responding to comments that were critical of her stance on the leaks. “Toph Beifong defending a multi million dollar corporation is so 2026,” one person said. “You’re kidding me right?” Flower countered. “I’m beginning to wonder who’s really the blind one around here…”

Paramount+ announced last December it would release the film, along with new Avatar series Seven Havens, on its streaming platform. The film’s director, Lauren Montgomery, expressed her dismay with that decision in an Instagram post last month, when she announced that the film had wrapped production.

“We screened the final film for the crew and celebrated the end of a four-year journey,” she wrote. “Now it waits in limbo until its release in October… The recent decision to move us from theatrical to streaming might give the impression that the quality wasn’t sufficient, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. This movie deserves to be seen on a big screen!!! Can’t wait for you all to see it!”

The fallout has sparked a discussion over Paramount’s decision to forgo a traditional theatrical release for a valuable franchise. The original series had a dazzling Netflix run in 2020 when it topped the streamer’s daily chart for more than 60 consecutive days — a record at the time for a non-Netflix original — and even last year when it ranked as the third most streamed animated show on the platform two decades after it was released. The series has finished among Nielsen’s Top 100 most-streamed titles during 17 of 139 weeks since its debut on the platform in March 2023. Paramount, which declined to comment, decided to bypass a theatrical run as part of its plan for its streamer to become the exclusive home of all animated content from Avatar Studios, the creative force behind the universe.

Pointing to Paramount’s pivot away from releasing the movie in theaters, some fans have defended their choice to illegally download the leaked movie. One common refrain: they would’ve pirated the film anyway since it would’ve premiered on Paramount+.

However, fans have praised the animation and said that the movie “deserved to be in theaters.”

ImStillDissin says he never planned to leak the entire movie “not necessarily out of respect to Paramount” but rather because it’s a “jackass thing to do to the animators.”

The origin of the video he received is unclear. It was a recording of the movie, meaning there were likely security measures in place to prevent unauthorized downloading. The version of the film that was ultimately pirated across the internet was a high quality file, potentially indicating a breach of systems maintained by those that worked on the movie.

The incident follows an unfinished copies of Paramount’s Plankton: The Movie and The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish being leaked before their Netflix debuts.

Based on the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: Aang, The Last Airbender is directed by Montgomery with Steve Ahn (Voltron: Legendary Defender) and William Mata (Dora and the Fantastical Creatures) co-directing. Latifa Ouaou, Maryann Garger, Konietzko and DiMartino serve as producers. Award-winning composer Jeremy Zuckerman scored the film.

The voice cast features Eric Nam as Aang, Jessica Mattenas Katara, Dionne Quanas Toph, Román Zaragoza as Sokka and Steven Yeunas Zuko, with Dave Bautista as the villain, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Freida Pinto and Ke Huy Quan.

Set years after the events of The Last Airbender, the film begins as Avatar Aang, the world’s last Airbender, learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.

Update (4/21) - Speaking during a panel at Supanova Melbourne in Australia (via Collider), which also featured Last Airbender stars Zach Tyler Eisen (the voice of Aang himself), Jack De Sena (Sokka), Michaela Jill Murphy (Toph), and Jennie Kwan (Suki), Olivia Hack, who voiced young firebender Ty Lee in the series, said:

“I’ve skimmed it. The art looks beautiful. Here’s my thing. If it was going to be the actual release, right, it’d be like, ‘don’t watch it, because it takes away from the box office,'”

“Paramount has my nickel. I already subscribed,” Hack continued. “So I skimmed it, and the art looks gorgeous. And I haven’t watched it [all] yet. Release it in theaters. That’s what I’m saying. And when you do watch it, you can see. I mean, it’s really spectacular.”
