Nickelodeon Orders 10 Additional Episodes for 'Side Hustle' Season 1

Nickelodeon has ordered an additional seven episodes of the network's new live-action buddy comedy series Side Hustle, bringing the number of episodes in season 1 up to 20!

Starring social media sensations and real-life best friends, Jules LeBlanc and Jayden Bartels, Side Hustle follows best friends, smart and sarcastic Lex (LeBlanc) and confident and tough Presley (Bartels), as they devise a plan to make money when fireworks accidentally destroy a boat belonging to the dad of their quirky friend and neighbor, Munchy (Isaiah Crews). Created and executive produced by Dave Malkoff (Henry Danger, Sam & Cat, Victorious) and shot in front of a live studio audience, Side Hustle season one was shot in Los Angeles.

Forced to come up with creative ways to earn money to pay for the damages, Lex, Presley and Munchy enlist the help of Presley’s tech-savvy younger brother, Fisher (Mitchell Berg), who creates an app to connect with people looking for help with small jobs, and Munchy’s bossy older brother Jaget (Jacques Chevelle), who makes sure they keep up with the payments.

LeBlanc and Bartels co-hosted Nickelodeon's virtually-produced Group Chat this summer, which ranked as the number-one unscripted live-action show on cable with kids 6-11 in the second quarter of 2020. Bartels teamed up with social media star Brent Rivera for season two, which is currently airing on Nickelodeon.

John Beck & Ron Hart (Knight SquadFuller HouseLiv and Maddie) serve as executive producers and showrunners. Production of Side Hustle for Nickelodeon is overseen by Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content, and Zack Olin, Senior Vice President, Live-Action.

. Omar Camacho serves as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.

Side Hustle underscores a key element of Nickelodeon's content strategy, to mine social platforms for the talent that kids love, and to superserve today's kids' interest in growing up to be entrepreneurs. Nick's new content slate is informed by the network's ongoing research and insights into today's generation of kids, who: are the most diverse generation ever and expect to see themselves authentically represented in media and in the world around them; want to make a positive difference in the world as they grow up; consider social media stars as their top role models, alongside their parents; and increasingly meet their much-desired need for family time by co-viewing entertainment content together.

In addition, Nickelodeon has renewed its hit virtually-produced game show series Nickelodeon's Unfiltered for season 2. The program is hosted by actor and comedian Jay Pharoah and includes Lex Lumpkin and Gabrielle Nevaeh Green, two members of the cast of the network’s All That sketch-comedy show as panelists along with America’s Got Talent winner Darci Lynne. The trio tries to determine the identities of celebrity guests disguised by a 3D filter and voice changer.

Nickelodeon says the first season of the series, which is produced remotely, stood as the most-watched unscripted live-action show on cable among viewers between 6 and 11. Guest panelists in the second season are slated to include Asher Angel, Miya Cech, and All That stars Ryan Alessi, Kate Godfrey and Chinguun Sergelen.

Side Hustle returns with new episodes following its winter break on Saturday, January 23 at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT), whilst fans can catch new episodes of Unfiltered season 2 Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. from January 7.

The renewals of Side Hustle and Unfiltered is a sign that both series have served to attract young audiences as many kids and families are staying closer to home due to the on-going COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
