RIAA Certifies 'Victorious' Song 'Take A Hint' as Platinum - Nearly a Decade After It Was First Released

The RIAA has announced its first wave of US song certifications for 2022, and the list includes “Take A Hint”, a song from Nickelodeon's hit musical-comedy series Victorious sang by Victoria Justice and Elizabeth Gillies!

Credited to the Victorious cast featuring Justice and Gillies, who portrayed Tori Vega and Jade West, respectively on the series, “Take A Hint” officially secured a platinum award on January 5, 2022. The award signifies 1 million in US units, with each equal to 1 paid download or 150 streams.

The certification comes just prior to the song’s ten-year anniversary; “Take A Hint” was featured in the Victorious season 3 episode "Tori & Jade's Play Date", which aired on Nickelodeon on March 3, 2012, and ultimately appeared on the Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show soundtrack album released the following June.

In the episode, Jade and Tori perform the duet to two annoying boys at Nozu in order to discourage the boys from flirting with them. The song was written by Maghan Kabir, Kevin Kadish and James Michael. The original song was written by Kadash and performed by Meghan Kabir, with the Victorious version having a few words replaced with phrases such as "Hey", but what the lyrics were implying were relatively different and more mature than other Nickelodeon songs.

“Take A Hint” is the first song from the Nickelodeon sitcom to attain platinum status in the United States. It follows Justice’s gold-certified “Freak The Freak Out” as the second to receive any RIAA certification.
